    This one is for the nerds. How do you like to use room reverbs on your mixes?

    • @s10wd0wn
      @s10wd0wn 9 месяцев назад

      I like to use room mics and/or room plug ins to create a unique space for the music to live in. I never had any UAD stuff before they went native so didn’t have the pleasure of using ocean way, but I do have T-verb from eventide and used it in exactly the same way, to give a sense of space and depth and personality to recordings done in dry or small or generally less than ideal locations. This Sound City plug sounds incredible to my ears and the tweakability is epic. I definitely want to try this out. It’s a lot to drop on a single plug in even at the slightly discounted intro price, but it truly might be worth it as it’s right up my avenue… Christmas is around the corner I guess

      I like to use a room verb send on my drum crush bus. Low pass to taste. Sounds huge 🤌

      a good room is the key to good sounding music - thanks for your video!

      Hey Andrew! I bought this earlier today and came across your video later. 3D musical motion, spatially, within songs and commercial music are a long held interest of mine. Rooms and miking are the best foundation to accomplish that. This plug in inspires me to do remixes of old home studio recordings. Your video inspired many ideas and excitement to get to work. Thank you!

    Hey heads up, if you're using the plugin on a send, I think it needs to be on the reverb option. Re-mic is for replacing the original recording otherwise you will have phasing issues when used in parallel.

    • @karlderdelinckx
      @karlderdelinckx 9 месяцев назад +2

      I think he checked the fase of his mics. It sounded good.

    • @sinewaves1631
      @sinewaves1631 9 месяцев назад +5

      Guys from UAD said you could do either..

    • @rome8180
      @rome8180 2 месяца назад +2

      @@sinewaves1631 But the the plugin specifically doesn't let you use the mix knob in re-mic mode. Surely that indicates that it's not meant to be used in parallel, right?

    • @TheSonorabob
      @TheSonorabob Месяц назад

      @@rome8180 - not necessarily - fx returns should always be used at 100% wet mix. Years ago and the common practice - sends go to time based processors, and they're always 100% wet, return on the board to their own channels for levels and processing.
      That being said, I found this on UA's site:
      Learning Re-Mic Mode
      First off, it’s important to know how and when to use the two different modes of operation - Re-Mic and Reverb. These modes process signals in fundamentally different ways. When Ocean Way Studios is in Re-Mic mode, the original signal itself is completely replaced. The processed sound inherits the sonic characteristics of Ocean Way's acoustics, source dispersion patterns, and microphones with more accuracy and realism than is possible with typical reverb processing.
      The concept is similar to that of guitar reamping, where previously recorded guitar tracks are routed out of the DAW, into a guitar amplifier, and then re-recorded using a microphone. The original guitar track is then replaced in the DAW with the new track, inheriting the sonic characteristics of the amp, room and mic.
      You should note that Mic proximity and bleed will be much more present when using Re-Mic mode, and that using the multiple mic pairs (Near/Mid/Far) requires more attention to possible phase issues - just like it would with actual multi-mic recordings. Experiment with the Mic Distance encoders and the Polarity buttons to shape your optimal sound and avoid phase issues.
      Tracks processed with Re-Mic mode should be set up as an individual insert, or as an auxiliary group if you are processing multiple signals.
      Using Reverb Mode
      In Reverb mode, the Ocean Way Studios plug-in behaves like most artificial reverb processors - such as the EMT 140 or Lexicon 224 - where the "direct" source-to-mic signal component is not actually part of the processed signal. During mixing, this processed ambience is then blended with the dry sound. Fantastic results can be obtained with this method, and it may be exactly the sound you're looking for. Reverb mode should be set up as a traditional send/return effect or as a dedicated insert on an individual track. I recommend the former, as it gives you the ability to apply many sources to just one instance of the plug-in. We recommend using Reverb mode when recording in real time through Apollo audio interfaces.

    • @mellejutte757
      @mellejutte757 17 дней назад

      @@rome8180 Maybe so but I've had great results myself with it on re-mic mode as an insert. That definitely sounded different and better to my ears then it put it on insert mode. Phasing issues are definitely more of a possibility but you'll notice that quickly enough if any occur. :)

    Sounds great! There is a difference between re-mic mode and reverb mode. I believe re-mic is to be used as an insert and actually used almost like a re-amp box to change the way your track was recorded. Reverb used as an aux/effect. But again, sounds great as you used it so whatever works!

      @ryancrawford9894 9 месяцев назад +3

      Yep! Ocean Way operates the same way. They’re a bit mum about details for “re-mic”, but there’s definitely a dry component there, and it’s different from a simple wet/dry blend function.

The acoustic guitar sounded absolutely stunning, with and without the plug-in, but the plug-in definitely brought the tone into the stratosphere. Lastly, and you may already be aware of this, but I was hearing a constant low hum in the background for most of the video, starting after the intro and mostly heard while you were talking in between playing the tracks. Kind of like a drum mic feeding back ever so slightly. Nothing extreme obviously, just an FYI. Thanks for the video.. Peace.. DC
