Was able to grab it for 39 USD thanks to your video, thank you so much! This has been at the very top of my wish list for a while.
TYVM for using my link! We all win with this plugin. Wow. Wonder if anyone can unseat it from Plugin of the Year Award 2024? 🤔
@@axel.lessio also, there's a lesson here (why I started covering deals): we should watch like a hawk for good deals on plugins that we are interested in. They'll all eventually go on-sale. And then we pounce!
I LOVE this plugin so much. It’s user friendly and has amazing presets!
@@martinexoticsusa Agreed! It's my new baby. Though I got to say, I found the mixer a little odd at first. But that was solved by RTFM.
Genuinely one of the best plugins I have ever used
@@shayeasy It's a game changer. I'm obsessed with at least trying it on everything!
I have this. Fantastic plugin. Killer deal. It's usually on sale these days (as are most UA plugins).
Yes! I'm actually slightly annoyed that I got it at $49😥 ha ha. And yes, UA does lots of flash-sales, but it's all about catching them. I find they truly end the sales when they say they're going to.
Sound City is truly one of those plugins that can be fairly called "revolutionary." How do you use it the most?
@@dahlhousestudios I got it at $49 also. Still a deal! 😅 I mostly use it on drums. If I already have a really good drum recording, I find that I usually just end up using it in reverb mode. Still adds quite a bit of character. I also use occasionally on acoustic guitar to give a bit more "size". I have a song I'm recording currently that will have gang vocals at the end and I'll probably try it on that as well.
@@DadRockAndGuitars A $49 brother yes! I don't feel as bad anymore. Yeah drums are the obvious killer app. That being said, I haven't found anything that I wouldn't at least consider trying it on. It can fold space and time around your original track, changing phase and soundstage relationships. It can be a magic bullet. I think it will become my go-to for "that-track-that's-just-not-doing-it-for-me" that is in almost every mix lol. Just chuck it in Sound City!
My next project? Try it on the mix bus. Pretend that the band is IN Sound City-just like Rage was.
uad native could never be so good they sound phenomenal
It's a shockingly good plugin. Thanks for watching!
@@dahlhousestudios drop it on my mixbus crank the preamp and back off the output to compensate and boom my mix sounds like thunder drums pops out in my face bass gets big deep and wide vocals shine like star instruments become dense 3d and polished this now gives me clue to drop waves slate and ik and grab uad tuesday coupon deals with their native offering
This guy is holding a Shure SM7b while speaking into it...and I'm hear for it. Yes, hear...not misspelled.
Ha ha yes! When filming, I'm far back from my desk and room tone becomes a bigger issue. And when that's the case, can't do better for off-axis rejection than the classic SM7b! Thanks for watching and commenting
And everyone knows that audio engineers don't misspell werds
@@dahlhousestudios oh yes indeed!
Funnily enough, I had to use spellcheck on the word misspelled. One day, I'll remember the extra S but today wasn't the day!
The irony is real!
For re mic mode on drums are you sending to an FX bus to mix wet/dry or just putting it on the drum bus?
@@PinkNoPinkBand Generally speaking, the re-mic mode will be used on your drum bus-with all the direct mics routed to that bus. In re-mic mode, Sound City will completely replace the dry signal with the emulated speaker and mic"direct signal", as if you literally played the signal through two speakers in the room.
Reverb mode is the send version, with no direct mic tone.
That being said, you can totally choose what goes to a Sound City bus, insert it on individual drums, or even run it in parallel. Anything goes!

@@dahlhousestudios thank you so much for the feedback. Great video! Appreciate the educational content.
It's not "practically free" if it's still 41 bucks. Just saying.
Yeah. I was very enthusiastic about this crazy deal and, when this was announced, it was only a one-week deal, so I banged this one out quickly. Perhaps a bit clickbait-y. That being said, it was $349 retail just last week-pretty insane deal. Thanks for the feedback! (BTW, almost all UA plugs are $39 at pluginboutique now too!)
Regardless, $40 is a black friday price if not better lol
@@FanaticDrummer Tell me about it! I paid $49 2 months ago😪
All plugins are great until they are expected to function with my crap music. Then they suck beyond all belief.
@@oinkooink good point lol
Lol. Just more evidence that 90% of a "good sound" comes from the source material. The rest is mostly just "polish".
I'm glad to finally understand this, it saves a lot of money and helps me realze i already really have all the tools i "need". If I can't get a good sound with what I already have, then I won't get one with a million dollar studio setup either lol.
@@EricJohnson-fh8zj Preach! In the end, I'm actually a plugin miser who used to have a million plugins and was always on the hunt for new ones that would magically mix for me. I now use the same FX on every mix. BUT I'm still in love with tech and surprises of new plugins, and always have my ear to the ground for truly revolutionary plugins (like this one) that can add that special je ne sais quois, or good emulations of the best gear-for colour after I've already got my mixes where I want at the basic level. With its ability to completely change the tone, depth, and phase of stereo material, Sound City is a plugin I'd try on one of those weaker tracks or mixes (if, God forbid, I somehow managed to record a crappy track!😉).
Ive always had the impression these kind of plugins were mostly gimmick...basically just applying filters/eq's and IR's. Mostly stuff you could probably achieve with basic plugins you already have.
I dont feel like you'd be one to praise it if it didnt have something good going on tho. I guess ill have to try it before judging.
I think the same way you do. But the proof is in the pudding. I imagine one could recreate the *general* tone with a couple reverbs, EQs, compressors, and saturation, but like the "All EQs are the same," argument, at some point it becomes such a ludicrous proposition once there's one plugin that does it all with minimal tweaking. To me, this one achieves that. I'm sure it IS "just applying filters and IR," but the lengths they've gone to: getting tone from original tapes; having the OG engineers there to explain technique; modelling the whole path from speaker to mic to console to gear…it would just be a dog's age to get something this convincing lined up with plugins in-the-box (not to mention an insane CPU suck). My next plan is to try sinking an entire mix into it, as if the band played in the room! Oh! And to try a literal re-mikin by sending a DI guitar through it. Thanks for watching and commenting (and especially the trust!)
It's value really isn't the rrp now is it! I still think it's a fun plugin for sure
Hi. Sorry, what's an "RRP"? All I know is that it sounds great, is fun, and it was a steel at $49 when I got it 2 months ago. Now it's $10 cheaper! Thanks for watching and commenting
@@dahlhousestudios Room Reproduction, but I also have this plugin and love using it
Its $89 now.
Nein! Follow the link in the description or scan the QR code. It's $39 at PiB. They've extended the sale until Sep 2! www.pluginboutique.com/products/11503-UAD-Sound-City-Studios-Plugin/?a_aid=64b80a03dc3d7
