    • @NeoArmstrongJetArmstrongCannon
      @NeoArmstrongJetArmstrongCannon 2 месяца назад +1

      Yes, afaik. Athletes might do a 1rm, but only ever to gauge their max strength, they don't really chase PRs. Their priority is always moving weights quickly, so they can't lift heavy (lifting heavy for a long time is proven to make you slow and stiff).
      Make no mistake tho, lifting ligh but quickly will 100% make you stronger in heavy lifts too. I 100% advocate for not mindlessly chasing PRs, but staying with one weight until you can lift it explosively.

    • @mitchellcotton7346
      @mitchellcotton7346 2 месяца назад

      @@NeoArmstrongJetArmstrongCannon
      Trust me, athletes chase PR's. They're competitive by nature, especially in a group environment they're always trying to push more weight. From my observations, this particularly seems the case in contact sports like rugby, especially the forwards that tend to be strong to begin with. (Think Linebackers in NFL)
      An S&C coach will need to tell an athlete to take weight off because they're going too heavy a lot more often then they need to tell them to add more.

If they’re not on gear, and both athletes and bodybuilders are so don’t act like they aren’t, how is bodybuilding killing you. This close minded and overly obsessed thinking is why people argue about this shit unnecessarily and have napoleon complexes for no reason. I keep seeing comments saying, why would I want to look like a “fat” bodybuilder or whatever and I’m like, first of all your body fat percentage is not comparable to a steroid user and second why announce this like ok we get it you don’t care about bodybuilding but it comes out of your mouth every time, like be a real man and move on.

    This kid is so year 1 anatomy its ridiculous. There's no such thing as a "functional movement" because skills do not meaningfully transfer between activities, general strength does. So the goal when resistance training is to build as much strength as possible with low skill, high resistance movements then AWAY from that, practice the exact motor patterns or "skills" required for your activity ideally under the same conditions in which you'll be required to perform them. If you try blending the two under the guise of "functional training", you simply end up with a meaningless motor pattern and minimal strength development while drastically increasing your risk for injury because you destabilized the movement.
    Bodybuilders are not "dysfunctional" because of the motor patterns they train. It's because they build too much size which limits their ranges of motion and throws off their power to weight ratios for speed based activities. And please stop flexing your 4-year degree in one of the easiest majors in school. I know because I have a masters in kinesiology. Checkmate apparently.

      Yeah, the whole "functional training" world is just fluffed up, overpriced, garbage that's sold to idiots.
      They tried to have QBs in the NFL throw a heavier football in practice because it's "functional" and it ended up failing because the QB had to change their throwing mechanics to accommodate for the extra weight and they literally lost ball speed. 🤣
      So it was ultimately just a giant circle jerk waste of time that risked injury.
      This kid apparently missed the first lesson of Kinesiology 101 which is Selyes SAID principle (specific adaptation to imposed demands) which is You only get better at what you do especially related to skill.
      I guess he's creating a safe space for skinny kids to vent their frustration though so he's accomplishing something.

      @mitchellcotton7346 2 месяца назад

      @codywirth8190 Would be interested to get your thoughts...
      I would have suggested that the reason most bodybuilders "can't" throw a punch would be more so a product of:
      A) Not training to throw punches, therefore poor kinetic sequencing
      B) They're training possibly being not velocity specific enough
      I agree that the machines vs free weight transferability difference is fairly negligible, but I would have thought it's an edge case scenario where someone gets "too big" to throw a good punch. Especially when guys like Eddie Hall appear to box pretty well (Obviously not elite level but still significantly better than most celebrity fighters)

    bodybuilders are athletes by definition… they also do include cardio on a regular basis. imo sounds like this guy is a coping and recovering wannabe bodybuilder.

      Bodybuilders aren't athletes. They dont compete because Bodybuilding is a beauty pagent, Powerlifters and Weightlifters are more athlete than Bodybuilders.
