I'm glad that, for whatever reason, my gym isn't like this. And it's a big box gym too. Everyone is respectful and just leaves others alone, young or old, skinny or built, gymrat or newbie. I've never seen anyone get confrontational with anybody nor ridicule anybody.
Most gyms are like this. I've been to big box gyms, my local YMCA, rec centers, and my college gym. They all have slightly quieter or noisier atmospheres but overall everyone is respectful and even helpful. One more side-effect of these "influencers" is the fact that they scare curious people away from the real world. Everyone I know who is interested won't go to the gym because they're scared of being stared at or recorded. It bugs me how negatively people view normal activities now.
I've been a member at probably a dozen gyms and they have always been completely uneventful. I've had the occasional older man try to tell me why an exercise is pointless, and I've been hit on plenty but everyone has always been respectful.
I stay in shape at home,at the beach and on my dirtbikes, dont want to have to deal with any of these drama queens.Good one Josh, as a middle aged man watching society collapse you give good advice to the young.
I go to an MMA gym that doubles as a bodybuilding gym. Everyone is very respectful cause there’s a sparring cage right in the middle and you never know who can f you up
I noticed this too, and everyone who trained martial arts has the respect that there will always be someone better, so it teaches everyone humility. It's funny how all these "bodybuilders" in commercial gyms have this huge ego and their behavior only resembles wild animals.
Yeah, I went to a mixed martial arts gym for a while (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, MMA) and everyone there was nice and respectful. Since we're all taking classes where an instructor is commanding us, none of us can have our phones out either. Those gyms can be expensive, but the people are great.
Same here, I go to a Boxing Gym and everyone is there for each other. Sure people can get hurt in sparring but at the end of the day they all bring the best out of each other.
I used to look at everyone in the gym. Its what I do when I'm out in crowded places, I look at people. There's nothing wrong with it, in fact its an important thing to do to stay safe. It's also an important thing to do in any place where you can learn from others.
I'm guilty of the same thing but you have to be conscious about it and try not to stare too long. If you think to yourself "oops, I keep looking at that person or have been looking at that person for a while.... I hope they don't think I'm creepy" you probably ARE looking at them too much. No big deal. Just focus somewhere else. Pick someone else or a nice spot on the wall. Find a mirror and focus on your own form.
I feel old posting this, but I remember watching social media in general enter the gym space. More and more friends became more self obsessed with taking pics. The gym used to be like a public bathroom. We are all here to do something hard, smelly, and undignified. Do your business and go.
I feel even older because I remember the gym as a place to meet friends and find a girlfriend. Anytime I went to the gym pretty much anywhere in the world, I would make friends with people, ask for a spot on a lift, work in on sets and take a woman out for a smoothie afterwards. The gym used to be fun.
Back then, you had to earn to being known. If you weren’t elite, no one gave a shit. Funny part is those forgotten might be more annoying then the influencers, talking about lifts they “did”
Compasion with public bathroom looks excessive, in some cultures such form of compasion even can make people never return to gym again - all the same, the attitude towards sports should be more respectful than installation on one level deadlifts and... This Its more like factory or manufacture. Place where you should work hard to get some salary and not to be poseur; not the bucket filled with shit (public toilet) that actually social media is.
Great video. I think most sane people would agree that ALL recording in the gym should be banned, unless it's staff doing promotional stuff. This crap is getting out of control.
My gym (Armbrust Pro Gym) has banned tripods during busy hours, and it honestly feels so much better. It's peace of mind knowing I won't end up in a TikTok for looking in someone's general direction. I think all gyms should implement this at some point :)
That's exactly the solution I came up with at the 2 minute mark while watching this video! ANYONE caught recording themselves (and recording others') should be banned. These people are narcissistic troublemakers looking to create fake drama for 'clout' and 'clicks'. 👍
The spotlight one is so real. Everyone thinks people are looking at them which is just not true. Sometimes you have to realize that everyone expects others to look at them. So if everyone expects that, that means no one is looking at u. Sometimes ur just not that important. People shouldn’t be so embarrassed
Good video man. I’m an avid gym user but I see people all the time who you can tell are there for the first time and they are struggling to figure out where to begin. Having these idiots with cameras all over the place makes it way harder to try, and it also makes me not want to interact with anyone when I’m there, even if I could help someone lift safer. Hopefully this trend ends up dying out.
I just hate such people.I was 100 kg at 5 foot height at once. I have improved myself, survied diseases and I am 65 kg at 5'8". But the problem is that everyone tries to mock me as I am weak as hell because I was a couch potato and I am becoming stronger every day. It is really hard to keep yourself motivated.
Hey brother I want to ask you something as you mentioned that your height when you started was 5'0 and when you lost 35 kilos your height was 5'8 At what age did you made this change in your self I'm curious about it as I'm trying to lose 25 kilos

6:31, This is me... 2 herniated discs, chronic pain for +2 years, only 21 years old. My back is f** for the rest of my life because of listening to advice on social media, and not listening to my body giving off signals of needed rest. DON'T be like me, and PLEASE stay safe and take care of the one and only body you get.
worst advice is "ass to grass". Either youre a 3 years old kid or you trained mobility for months/years. Otherwise that advice is just stupid. Lower back will round up and you can say goodbye to your disc.
I left my last gym because tripods and naked women were everywhere. You would glance and then they would stare at you for 5 mins. Left and found a decent CrossFit gym with a decent free weights section. Only person that videos is the PT for the classes for advertising. 10000% better
Banning tripods and recording at videos need to be implemented. Or if they are going to be setting it up and it won't be banned, they should also be told, they can't get mad if other people who pay for the gym walk in line of the camera.
Well i think recording yourself For your Form is okay. But it should be the Rule that you never purposefully Film someone Else (If they didnt explicitly told you to Film Them so they can Check their Form For example), and when they end Up in your Video By accidant and you wanna post it, you have to 100% make Them anonymous By blurring/cencoring Them etc.
It is one thing using video to record oneself working out and using it to review the work out for performance or show others like training of do's and don't, but not using it for attention seeking like gyms that's, etc
I used to go to a gym in the city, now after moving I go to this indipendent small town gym and it's such a difference. People arent even more nice per se, they just care way, way less. Everyones just here to work out. It's amazing.
This makes me grateful for my gym. No influencers or clout chasing twats. It's in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh so most of the members are professionals with real jobs and a few college kids.
I am grateful to have the means to have built a home gym so I can avoid the mess that has become the "gym scene." Fitness has become something so weird and toxic and it really sucks. Thanks for all your great videos! You really do your research well, and I find your opinion pieces rather appropriate and reasonable.
Thank god i have my own home gym and i dipped before this nonsense started taking place. Bunch of narcissists doing whatever it takes just for a bit of attention, likes, and validation from faceless people on the web. It really tells you how insecure are the people who waste time in these childish games, and it also tells you who really goes to the gym training and who goes to the gym to get some clout.
So happy I have my own gym at home. Worst thing I have to deal with is when my son’s friends are over I have to warn them some weird noises are going to happen when I’m squatting.
Easy solution: get out of the gym. The basics still work. Do push ups. Squats, lunges, or split squats with just body weight are still damn effective. Boring, but effective. Find a park, do chin ups or dips on a bar you can find there. Gyms are toxic? Ok… don’t pretend there aren’t other solutions.
This video covers all of the reasons why I started investing in building a home gym. Now I don't have to deal with these "main characters" and their toxicity.
The example of a _blind guy_ getting kicked out of a gym for presumably staring at a woman, that's the height of insanity. And I am not an expert, but aren't Instagram and Tik Tok videos capable of editing? Because of they are, these "influencers" need to get a life. Or just not be assholes.
@@rageagaintstheNWO That reminds of Joey Swoll's channel where he showed a video of an "influencer" deliberately filming himself at a treadmill. He was next to a woman actually using the treadmill next to him. In a section of the gym full of treadmills that were empty.
you know as a teen I used to laugh at gym fail compilations, until I realised that these kinds of videos would be pretty disheartening to a newcomer to the gym. I put myself in their shoes, and imagined how I would feel if my lift was put out there for everyone to laugh at. I stopped watching that stuff. it's not good or healthy
i dont go to the gym because i have social anxiety but i go for walks / jogs around my local park with my dog, so im happy out. but my perception of how women frequently make false accusations online and post about them of 'creeps' at their gyms upset me. like how can you be a woman and put genuine victims of harrassment and whatnot in gyms down to further your attention online? so many people who are anti-men end up being even more anti-women
Me too. Although mine's more of a 'collection of weights' than a home gym. But I exercise all the necessary muscle groups, AND I choose the music I listen to. Plus, if it's really hot (I live in Southern Spain), I can exercise in my undies... _just like when you forgot your kit back in school._
impossible to build a home gym that replicates the experience of a full size commercial gym as a common man. DEFINETLY NOT POSSIBLE in new york city with the amount of real estate space available. absolutely not. yes in Idaho sure, but not in dense cities.

This content is so valuable, man! Respect for sharing your personal stories - you quietly prove how much more confident you are than the posers that mock others. Recognising the spotlight effect is what allowed me to overcome my own paruresis 😂 Anyone interested can look up the term… The real trouble is the overcompensation that goes on in the gym. If people just went to have a good time and cared less about what others thought of them or what others were doing, they’d be fitter and happier. Hope your amazing content gets more people to that point :-)
I appreciate the push back and questioning of diet culture. I spent my 20's and 30's steeped in it, consumed and fooled. So much time and money wasted, so little common sense. And mom couldn't help because she was stuck, too. At 56, I've ditched it, focusing on habits and long term goals rather than rushing after fantasy. I want to be a role model to my granddaughters of joyful movement, rest, and real food with no rules. I've never been happier with the mirror than I am now. I see bright eyes and contentment and hope rather than a flawed shape. I weight train for function and mobility. I backpack for perseverance and sunshine. I eat real food because I'm now a great cook and boxed stuff simply can't compete. My body will do whatever it wants, and I'm so grateful to still be able to be active. I will never diet again or worry about perfection or flaws. These are the best, last years, and I won't waste them on diet culture. I've got people to love, gardens to tend, books to read, places to hike.
Social media is the reason for this. Everyone wants to easy way to fame, and getting a “viral” clip to them will get them to where they want to be, or at least that’s what they believe. Realty, they aren’t important at all and their workouts, poses and lifestyle are no different then the hundreds of thousands posting the same exact thing daily.
I really like the 10-10-10 rule you mentioned at the end. Made me pause the video and contemplate certain things I've been holding back on. Great video as usual!
My first time in a gym and this giant jacked dude was making fun of me for curling 20s, I startes going at 11 at night to avoid him and bought weights to workout at home as much as possible
Look bro.. Ik that shit hard fr but you should like not give fucks about that dude..Do you think he was just born just like that.. Jacked?! Hell nahh bro he was probably even worse before. You should NOT give a fuck about that dude, cuz he retarted and narcissistic in his mind bro. Remember, looks don't describe the personality.
since the 2020 'stuff' i was able to slowly make a pretty epic (for my needs) home gym; it has cost about 20% less than a membership over the same time period and now that it's as equipped as i need it, saves money. i went to a gym with a friend about a month ago and it wasn't bad, but it wasn't peak time.
This helped me understand my teen son and my experience with him and his peers in the gym vs my expectations. It’s so crazy that you have to deal with this everyday. When I started working out, it was not like this at all. Also, everyone watched each other and that made the gym fun. I’ve met several romantic partners in gyms. I think my generation is still open to it. But the younger generations must be terrified. Hopefully more videos like this will challenge and change the focus.
Ps I met my current girlfriend and the last three women I dated at gyms eg traditional, yoga, sport-related, so I know my generation is open to being approached in those spaces. But someone in their 20s, maybe early 30s, must be terrified. It’s sad because those used to be the spaces we went to meet our friends. Plus who better to date than someone who likes to workout everyday with you?
I like going to the gym that says no photographing and cameras allowed. So if you bring your camera or your phone in and it's obvious you're taking videos and pictures you yourself can get kicked out.
literally today when I was halfway through my bench press set someone started spotting me when he saw that i was struggling with my last reps it was very nice and I appreciate people like that
This is actually part of why i ended up building my own home gym. Im at the gym to follow my routine and get better. I shouldnt have to worry about looking near someone while zoned out on 300mg of caffiene and getting labeled a creep or some worse shit by millions of people on tiktok.
This is why I dont go to gyms. That feeling of people looking, judging , recording and snickering .Now add posting to social media for all their friends to mock and ridicule
In my experience, the vast majority of gym-goers are just average people who's there to lift some weights, and go back home 😅 i've been going for a bit over a year, and i've only had nice and pleasant encounters 😊
I left gyms over a year ago. Once the phones entered the lock rooms on record it was a wrap for me. I can appreciate someone documenting their journey but you won’t atrophy on your drive home.
Most people in the gym are nice, I'd say in a cheap chain brand gym there are more a-holes, definitely worth it for me to go to a local privately owned gym that also doesn't allow filming.. makes it a pretty relaxed experience most times.
Which makes it worse, not better. Not only is there no tangible benefit to the vast majority of influencers for the public, there's no tangible benefit for them personally. And for that they happily put other people on display.
@@Melesniannonits all about ego. Sometimes i wonder to myself, theres so many influencers nowadays when compared to even 5 and 10 years ago- who is watching all of them? Great to know that theyre not making any profit. I wish society could go back to being offline, i hate the pressure to be on social media so much.
I live in France. Fortunately these kind of things do not happen in my gym. If you avoid really staring at people more than 2 or 3 seconds, no one cares. They wouldn't come and ask you "why are you staring at me" just because you gaze ahead while you absent mindedly do your work-out. This is so weird.
As someone who trains *Neck* in the Gym whether (Plates or Cable) and i know i look totally freaking weird , as i am the only one doing it in my Gym .. Trust me no one cares , and even if they laughed u can take it light hearted and laugh with them and make fun of yourself even .. and sometimes they would actually asks at this point u can explain what u're doing , they could learn something or maybe they can correct u and u would learn something too .
Bigger neck looks much better if the rest of your body is also muscular; I'm also the only one that trains it in my gym when I'm there, nobody has ever said anything, I'm blessed with a gym where everybody is always respectful and minds their business
1:20 is why you never let anyone in the gym if they're locked out. If they're supposed to be there, or have a right to be there, then they'll be able to get in themselves.
I am so proud of myself seriously, after watching this! When I started to work-out I really did not care about others that I used to do triceps kickbacks with pink 2kg dumbbell, which was challenging! And till now I am not an expert, sometimes I deadlift in a wrong way but I do not care 😂 I try to do my best and do a slow progressive overload, I am not there to impress anyone. This comment is for myself ❤❤
I was walking to the shops yesterday and some woman passer by glanced at me for a second.... I'm still emotionally traumatised by this event. Trying to forget about it. I woke up last night around 4 times screaming uncontrollably because of this. I assume everytime i leave my house. Every woman is attracted to me and if they even glance in my general direction for a second. I know it's because they are creeping on me. If anyone disagrees with this comment I will label you a sexist and "Part of the problem" Then I will go full victim mode and start telling you my life story of past trauma with women in a desperate attempt to get sympathy If that doesn't work, then ill delete my profile and go all private.
I quit going to the Gym and started working out from home, bought a bench a bunch of free weights a pull up bar and a bowflex. The reason I quit going is because of how busy it was. People stopped going to the gym to do what you're suppose to do there.. Exercise. People would go there as a social event. See all their buddies stand around doing nothing talking to people and being in the way of the mirrors weights and benches. Im not upset at people for being social I just don't understand why you would want to do it at the gym.
This culture is a major reason why I don't workout at a gym during peak hours anymore... It's always very late at night, or early in the morning. When it's 12 noon, or 7pm...the gym is flooded with these types of people. They treat it like a space for their TikTok content more than an actual gym.
I’ve been going to the gym for a few years now and have never encountered any of this. It happens a lot on social media, but social media isn’t real life. Go to the gym, don’t watch this video and get scared off from it. Most gym people are super supportive
The only place I go in the gym now is the cardio machines, because 9 times out of 10 it's nothing but middle-aged women and senior citizens working out there, all of whom aren't filming their workouts, and the 1 time out of 10 that it's some gymbo they're only there until the squat rack is free.
As a sports person, I agree with this video.Especially the fact that they put the camera in crowded places and shoot videos or pretend that we are looking at them is nothing but toxic. Most people come there from work or school to distract themselves or have fun, even for 1-2 hours, but they don't leave any enthusiasm because of toxic axles like this.
Back in the 70's and 80's there was a lot of gym comraderie. People spotted for each other and they loved to work out together, as it made people work out a lot harder, do a couple forced reps, etc. People were generally cool and joked around some, I could flirt with hot chicks, they flirted back, and they did not get pissed off, etc. WTF happened to the gym?? Has this been ruined also? Tell me how is 2024 one bit better than 1980? It seems like everything sucks now! How uncool!
Thanks for watching!

It's because they know someone will f*k them up like happend before. People who fight in a ring/cage are more often being polite, because they know.
That's like 95% of gyms. Everything is this video is more of an exception, than what is actually happening in general.

Drama Alpha Queen 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
I go to an MMA gym that doubles as a bodybuilding gym. Everyone is very respectful cause there’s a sparring cage right in the middle and you never know who can f you up
Training to fight brings the best out of people
I noticed this too, and everyone who trained martial arts has the respect that there will always be someone better, so it teaches everyone humility.
@@RUclipsChillZone That part, there is always someone better than you 💯
Same here, I go to a Boxing Gym and everyone is there for each other.

I built a gym at my home, I got sick of all the selfishness!
This
Its more like factory or manufacture. Place where you should work hard to get some salary and not to be poseur; not the bucket filled with shit (public toilet) that actually social media is.
@@michaelm9710 going to the gym for a girlfriend is such a bad idea

Great video.
I think most sane people would agree that ALL recording in the gym should be banned, unless it's staff doing promotional stuff.
This crap is getting out of control.
My gym (Armbrust Pro Gym) has banned tripods during busy hours, and it honestly feels so much better. It's peace of mind knowing I won't end up in a TikTok for looking in someone's general direction. I think all gyms should implement this at some point :)
You train at a real gym! I’ve heard good things about that place

That's exactly the solution I came up with at the 2 minute mark while watching this video! ANYONE caught recording themselves (and recording others') should be banned. These people are narcissistic troublemakers looking to create fake drama for 'clout' and 'clicks'. 👍
@@eddiesaldana8921 It’s amazing man, so many ifbb pros and people who actually go to work out and not make fools of others.

Should be forbidden in every gym.

"weird noises are going to happen when I’m squatting"

Easy solution: get out of the gym. The basics still work. Do push ups. Squats, lunges, or split squats with just body weight are still damn effective. Boring, but effective. Find a park, do chin ups or dips on a bar you can find there. Gyms are toxic? Ok… don’t pretend there aren’t other solutions.
basics aren’t as effective with same amount of given time. Why should I manage to just make ends meet just because people won’t behave

Social Media in general is horrible for society
I quit going to the Gym and started working out from home, bought a bench a bunch of free weights a pull up bar and a bowflex. The reason I quit going is because of how busy it was. People stopped going to the gym to do what you're suppose to do there.. Exercise. People would go there as a social event. See all their buddies stand around doing nothing talking to people and being in the way of the mirrors weights and benches. Im not upset at people for being social I just don't understand why you would want to do it at the gym.

I always leave my cellphone at home before going to the gym. I'm afraid of breaking it lol.
How uncool!
