6:50 took me decades to admit that LESS distortion is often your best bet when trying for a chunky and well-defined rhythm. Too distorted and your muting sound messy and you still hear all that noise between chunks if you listen closely. There's got to be some sweet spot for each style and for solos, etc. That sound w/level all the way up is far too distorted to "sound" good. You'd have to do some serious FFT noise reduction and gating to clean that up. thx for the review.
true. With a real rig it feels natural to set dist on max and then chug the hell out, but in VSTs you must set it to a reasonable level and compensate with right hand. Started using pluggins only now and realised that it requests a very different right hand technique in order not to swim in noise and unwanted harmonics
Nice demo's of the Mesa Boogie. Have to agree, I love the fact that these are endorsed by the brands. This absolutely speaks volumes and has been why AmpliTube has been my favorite for many years. My personal favourite is the new Leslie 147. They all sound so cool, but these just win me. Thanks for this share.
Been using Amplitube since 2003. Blew my mind then, blows my mind now. LINE6 doesn't even come close. The ZOOM G3 pedals are comparable and overall they have better stomps and fx but the amp models aren't as good as IK's.
What's the latency like using a Zoom pedal as the interace for Amplitube? I've got a Zoom H6 recorder/interface and I've tried it as an interface for Amplitube using Zoom's ASIO driver but the latency just feels too high. The H6 doesn't have a Hi-Z input so I'm not sure if that's the problem but I don't see how that would have an effect on the latency - just maybe the quality of the guitar signal captured as I am getting a decent input level even using a passive pickup guitar (the H6 instructions say only active pickup guitars don't need a Hi-Z input and are thus officially comptaible for the H6). I bought the H6 for other reasons so being able to use it for Amplitube would've been a bonus but it's clear I need something else. I'm now considering either a Zoom G5n or an IK Axe I/O. Main use would just be practicing at home, maybe recording some ideas. I'm a drummer of over 10 years but a very recent guitarist so have so much to learn and play with, also where I live I can't crank up amp volume too often and I don't think I'm ready to invest in expensive tube amps and a loadbox for quieter/headphone playing yet so using something like Amplitube would let me experiment with all sorts of effects and amp types at home volumes. The Zoom pedal seems more versatile, has the expression pedal built in and can be used standalone. But if it has the same USB audio interface tech as my H6 I'm concerned I may still have the latency issue. Whereas IK make the actual software their interfaces work with so I'm guessing they've got the latency thing down.
Awesome. Just got mine started. Purely amazing the sounds on the amp and the effects would cost so much more. And with this can get any sound that I want skies the limit.
I'm a Big Mess Boogie fan too. I had bought a brand new Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier omg it was great. I had to sell it. Had to move and relocate. Bills etc. I'll buy another one Someday. Good video buddy 😎👍👌💯🎸🎸

I am using a Win10 PC = 8Core Processor, SSD=500Gb, 12gb memory, 3 monitors, DAW=REAPER and using a Steinburg UR22 with standalone power or usb (type-c). Using a BC Rich ($399) with standard pickups. Your thoughts
My only real gripe with AmiplTube is the lacking FX Loop. You can't put any of the stomp boxes in the loop. With GR it is much easier to choose the order of literally anything. AT makes it much easier to set up twin amp/cab setups though.
Hey man as far as the compressors I really enjoy the compressors that I purchased from amplitude T-Rex and the ones that come with Logic Pro. If I used the amplitude Mesa boogie amps and then on the post I want to use the logic compressors or the T-Rex compressors would I use those best as the second below the amplitude plugin for example what I first open up apple tube on channel one let's say on logic and then open up a second effects and you open the compressors? Because if I open first the compressors on the signal chain then with that compress amplitude after I open amplitude or does it matter how your effects chain is on Logic Pro? I know it's not a confusing but I hope it made some sense would appreciate an answer thank you.

hi ola!! maybe you'll show us how to install properlly this thing? and if i have already an amplitube 4 custom shop can i play thru it or i need amplitube4 at first? thanx.
Is there any chance that someone knows why do I hear a clean signal too from amplitube 4 when opening it in pro tools 12? The amplitube 4 app works just fine when I open it up from it's launcher, it only does this when in pro tools. Anybody any suggestions to fix the problem?
I got amplitube 4 the other day and using it via an irig2 hd. It’s sounding really really muddy and fizzy. What am I doing wrong? I’ve got it running on my laptop through windows and downloaded the asio4all driver. I’m using the audio Technica ath-50x headphones which seem highly recommended for this program. I tried out the triple rectifier and it’s still really muddy. I can’t get anything to sound like what I’m seeing or hearing on RUclips, and I’m reluctant to purchase any more items as I’ve been trying a lot of the other gear and just aren’t seeing any improvements. I’m seeing people say to bypass the cabinet and use IR’s but I have no idea what that means
thanx, I'm on Windows (PC) I ordered a DI Box hoping it helps out some. I have an older M-audio pci interface. I don't think iRig works on PC from what I've read. I'd like to get the signal as clean as possible before having to use the noise gates, because with gates the noise is gone when you're not playing but as soon as you hit a string you can still hear the noise underneath the guitar sound. I may need a new interface.
I am using a quad-capture roland sоuncard and guitar with passive pickups(Les Paul Maison custom 90year). I do everything exactly like in the video. Why is my sound so weak, humming and flat? Ola, what didn't you show us?
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please contact our IK Support team via www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-support and I'm sure they can get to the bottom of what's happening. Thanks!
No you do not need to buy AmpliTube 4 to use these models. You can purchase the MESA models/collection and use inside AmpliTube Custom Shop (the free version).
Is that sound just coming out from your PC speakers or are you using some external cabinet? I'm thinking of buying Amplitude but don't know how to get started as i just have a laptop!
How can I use Amplitube on realtime? I mean playing my guitar and hearing chosen FX at the same time through my audio interface? I use Scarlett 2i2 and Ableton Live 9.
I know that. but I must play clean then add FX and then listen to the recorded audio. I can't play with realtime FX. Are there any settings that I should change?
You should just be able to open up the VST and play with the effects in real time, I'll admit I haven't tried this particular one yet, but most VSTs work like that, I basically use ableton as a practice amp and almost never record guitar with it. When you have it running but not recording, do you hear anything at all when you play? Or is it just silence until you play back a recording?
Ok. I have the exact same settings as Ola on the Clean Rec and I'm clipping like crazy with a Focusrite 2i4 (INST and Gain01 turned almost all the way down, PAD is engaged). Why am I still getting the clipping?
@@geauxtime clipping is when your input signal is being compressed or "clipped off" turning a done into square wave, sound is poopy, and speakers don't like it
Ola how do u get amplitude to sound so good! I have a Behringer interface 202HD with a SG400 and AKG 25 headphones. Idk why mine sounds so bad... Can anyone help?!
What speakers have you got ? You need good studio monitors tbh . Also, Place an overdrive in the chain over any amp to add a little brightness, followed by a noise gate.
Hey there - So do you actually use a physical AMP ? Or do you just plug the device into some random speakers/headphones? If you use an extra AMP i guess all the effects on the AMP itself are turned off and you just pump up the volume? Does anybody know?
This is output directly from the audio interface. You can send your audio interface like iRig Stomp I/O output to an amp but the best results would be with a full-range powered speaker, mixer/PA, or similar for live use or to studio monitors in a home studio setting.
Ola, can this be used with the IK MM AXE I/O ? Do you have a demo of the IK MM AXE I/O Yet ? Didn't see one. Thanks. I think the IK Mesa stuff sounds great on your demo.
Can you use amplitube with ANY external sound card? I have a moderately shitty one but it usually gets its job done when recording, but all of the amplifiers sound like crap, so there's got to be a problem somewhere.
Thanks for the indepth look at this software! Im currently testing out amplitube free, which is cool and all but I get terrible hissing and whatnot.. Im using a jack straight into mic input on my pc I assume this isnt ideal... any ideas? Should I grab one of these interface things?
Yes, it would be best to use a proper audio interface. We have some at www.ikmultimedia.com/interfaces and you can use any that have an instrument/Hi-Z input. Thanks!
@@ikmultimedia Thanks for the reply! Ive been using the free version everyday it's brilliant, I've owned fender amps, marshall stacks and was lucky enough to once play on a dual rectifier mesa boogie and this plugin sounds lifelike. Obviously I'm limited to the brit sounds that come with the free version but hearing this video through my headphones really gets me going haha! Maybe after christmas I'll treat myself to the full plugin and one of these interfaces, thanks again!
Replying to this in case anyone is following in my footsteps, get yourself an interface! I went for a focusrite solo 3rd gen, makes the world of difference, Im sure the ikmultimedia interfaces are just as good!
If you have a guitar for lets say 200-300€, and use this vst-plugin. Do you get great sounds? How much does the guitar matter if you think about the quality of the sound?
How does he get that tone i do the same with my amplitube 4 and i get poop for sound sometimes i can't even use the mesa boogie pack because it's horrible
Many times it is interface settings / gain staging. I would recommend reporting your issues to IK Support at www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-support and they can surely assist you in getting the best possible tones from AmpliTube 4. Also, there are thousands of users on the IK Forum at www.ikmultimedia.com/forum that may have some suggestions too.
great video! but how did you get it to sound so clear?? I just downloaded it and it;s awful... makes a loud high pitched squeal the entire time I use it, even on clean channels.
Sounds like you may have an open loop in your input and output. If you are using an audio interface, please make sure you are plugged into its Instrument/Hi-Z input and that you have input and output levels on your interface (and in AmpliTube) set at levels where the level is strong but not going into the red (clipping). If you still have problems, our support staff are happy to help you directly at www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-support Thank you.
Hey something wrong my gutars dont sound like w/ Amp4 his has definition im getting Aliasing in the tone . Whats up? Using steingberg and/or focusrite Audio interface. Ola what P/Uor ax you using interface here?
That is not the typical experience when using a proper audio interface like you mention. Please contact our support team at www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-support and they will assist you directly to get you all set. Thanks
Mac/PC - There are dedicated Ampeg FX which are great for bass. iOS - I wouldn't say there are 'dedicated' bass FX at this time. Really just amps, but there are some general FX which could be used for any instrument. You can check out AmpliTube CS for free now to see what options we offer: www.ikmultimedia.com/products/amplitubecs/
AmpliTube CS is free and has enough gear to make great music (that you keep for good, no time limit or other limitations). Check outwww.ikmultimedia.com/products/amplitubecs/

You can play live through AmpliTube. It can be used as a standalone program with instant preset switching via MIDI control.
Or is it just silence until you play back a recording?
how do I use Amplitube 4 in Garageband?
You can use AmpliTube as an insert effect on an audio track in GarageBand
Ok. I have the exact same settings as Ola on the Clean Rec and I'm clipping like crazy with a Focusrite 2i4 (INST and Gain01 turned almost all the way down, PAD is engaged). Why am I still getting the clipping?
I would recommend contacting IK Support directly for assistance at www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-support
@@ikmultimedia Okay, I see this term a lot, but have no idea. What exactly is 'clipping'?
@@geauxtime clipping is when your input signal is being compressed or "clipped off" turning a done into square wave, sound is poopy, and speakers don't like it
Great ....sorry which speakers are connected to the audio interface ?
great video, thanks
Ola how do u get amplitude to sound so good! I have a Behringer interface 202HD with a SG400 and AKG 25 headphones. Idk why mine sounds so bad... Can anyone help?!
What speakers have you got ? You need good studio monitors tbh . Also, Place an overdrive in the chain over any amp to add a little brightness, followed by a noise gate.
@@matthewpike3026 Yep, everything sounds better to me with the Tube Screamer. I put my noise gate first in line though (or wah).
Hey there - So do you actually use a physical AMP ? Or do you just plug the device into some random speakers/headphones?
If you use an extra AMP i guess all the effects on the AMP itself are turned off and you just pump up the volume? Does anybody know?
This is output directly from the audio interface. You can send your audio interface like iRig Stomp I/O output to an amp but the best results would be with a full-range powered speaker, mixer/PA, or similar for live use or to studio monitors in a home studio setting.
mix n match different cab speakers within 1 cab? and mics?
Ola, can this be used with the IK MM AXE I/O ? Do you have a demo of the IK MM AXE I/O Yet ? Didn't see one. Thanks. I think the IK Mesa stuff sounds great on your demo.
Hi Ola, i want to buy Irig pro duo, what can you say about it? This is a good audio interface, better than Focusrite scarlett 2i2? Thank You!
duuudeee~~what type of camera and lens do you use ?
Can you use amplitube with ANY external sound card? I have a moderately shitty one but it usually gets its job done when recording, but all of the amplifiers sound like crap, so there's got to be a problem somewhere.
You should use an audio interface with a Hi-Z/Instrument interface and low-latency performance.
@@ikmultimedia Wow, thank you very much for your quick reply!
Ok, in case somebody reads this thread in the future... I bought a new sound card (a Behringer U-phoria) and now everything works just fine!
I would say amp is 80% of your sound and the guitar around 20%.
What pickups is he using. I can't get my stock 88 Les Paul custom to sound like that. Does it have something to do with settings in Logic?
He uses his own brand guitars with Seymour Duncans that are only available in those guitars. So good luck getting your LP to sound like that
Are you plugged in an amp then into your DI box into the computer for this sound ?
no he explains what he's using it's just a iRig. Any external sound card would do a good job enough. The amp is what you get with Amplitube
Hey something wrong my gutars dont sound like w/ Amp4 his has definition im getting Aliasing in the tone . Whats up? Using steingberg and/or focusrite Audio interface. Ola what P/Uor ax you using interface here?
whats your computer? :-( thanks
That is not the typical experience when using a proper audio interface like you mention. Please contact our support team at www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-support and they will assist you directly to get you all set. Thanks
Do you need Amplitube 4 in order to just get the mesa boogie pack? Because on the website I can get this separate, correct?
The MESA/Boogie Collection runs in AmpliTube 4 (even the free version)
Is there any kind of overdrive/distorsion specific for bass?
Mac/PC - There are dedicated Ampeg FX which are great for bass.
iOS - I wouldn't say there are 'dedicated' bass FX at this time. Really just amps, but there are some general FX which could be used for any instrument. You can check out AmpliTube CS for free now to see what options we offer: www.ikmultimedia.com/products/amplitubecs/
I wish you would discuss your whole hardware system ... Computer, monitors, DAW Software, MIDI keyboards? Etc ....
what are you needing to know?
Looks like Yamaha monitors.
Hi Ola... any recommendations for a guitar interface to hook up to an iPad to use Aplitude or Bias fx for ipad ? Thanks
I used to use an Apogee Jam 96k and it worked fine, but now I have the IK Stomp I/O and I love it.
Great review! Can i ask what your workstation table is called?
Does amplitube have any amp or pedal for free as a stock rig? Or it's just empty and you buy everything you need?
AmpliTube CS is free and has enough gear to make great music (that you keep for good, no time limit or other limitations). Check outwww.ikmultimedia.com/products/amplitubecs/
