The rusty item at 13:46 looks like a cast iron inline engine block that’s upside down. Probably a little too big for the ROV to lift though lol.

could the ROV carry a hook down there with a line on it and you could hook it and pull it up, that looked interesting to me also.

    • @amandahanson8188
      @amandahanson8188 3 года назад +1

My immediate thoughts were that it was an engine block too,upside-down with the crank journals exposed. It may have had a cracked block or bad cylinders or even a thrown rod through the side to warrant dumping it the way they did. I would love to know what it originally came from but thats the old car fanatic in me talking.

It is stinking hot where I live, but watching you shiver made me feel cold. I feel like I am watching a video game when you break out the underwater ROV, and I am making hand and head gestures everytime you try to grab something with it. I must look like I am having a fit. Haha. The stress of 'will he get it or not', is maddening. It must be a nightmare for you. Love it. Awesome vid. Take care brother.

I keep telling you this and you may not remember me with so many supporters you have, I am amazed every time you recover a plate. It’s mind blowing to me that complete plates, bowls and cups are just laying out there. Am just amazed seeing them. Your so lucky to have companies that support you and your channel with such great equipment to do all these exploration. You did a great job operating the ROV in these conditions. While the ice on top of the water probably stop the waves on top, did it increase the current under the water? Am sure operating an underwater ROV is more difficult than it looks. I enjoy your channel so much.

I must say a “Nail biting episode”, but hey a few obstacles and minor mishaps and you were extremely successful HH. You sure experience a lot of adverse conditions, but always come out positive and successful. Relieved to hear that you didn't freeze your butt off. Gotta love those long johns. Really enjoy your sense of humour/humor - humour/humor apparently signifies intelligence. You can complain/natter away to your heart's desire as long as you keep bringing us WW2 History adventures. :) Kinda like it as it adds to the adventure/entertainment. Puh, it's a good thing you didn't lose the ROV, as it sounds like it was touch and go. Yes, thanks QIC for lending that magnificent piece of technology. I have to say that one of my favourite/favorite WW2 Historical sites are the ones with the Luftwaffe connection. Couldn't believe my eyes when you lucked upon the 1941 German Luftwaffe Plate. What can I say, it's exquisite! You did an terrific job of cleaning it up. A lot of elbow grease was involved. What a beauty! Looking forward to the other secret item you found there. I am very anxious to see the video on the submarine harbour/harbor, in part because of your history as an ex submarine helmsman HH. Thank you again HH for going out there and weathering all of the elements, in order to bring us WW2 History. We appreciate it. Please stay safe, and yes of course keep smiling.

It is a pity that the Fi-fish hasn’t got an extendable arm on the grabber. It seems that it would be easier to manoeuvre over objects you want to retrieve?

that's a great fun device and I'm glad to see how you've modified the grippers, they look easy to work with so more mods should be pretty easy as you see fit to make them,it seems like it definitely needs more powerful motors to recover heavy stuff though, hopefully they have upgraded stronger thrusters for the future.bundle up toasty warm and be safe out there on the ice!!!!! we have these chemical hand warmers here in the US, hopefully you can get them at a hunting or sporting gear store locally.if you're unfamiliar with them their multi layer plastic bags with a fast acting heating element of chemicals, you pop one of the small bags inside of another activating the heater for a few hours.you can put it in your gloves, pockets, socks for instant heat, they work fantastic!!!or you can get some hunting socks that are battery powered.thanks again!!!!

Another amazing adventure, HH! I don't like seeing you get that chilled but I sincerely appreciate all your efforts to show us the remnants of history all around you! Perhaps you need some better winter garments? Where I live in the US the first thing my family learned from the locals to deal with the arboreal cold winter temperatures is to dress in multiple layers. It's -17° C outside right now but with the calculated wind chill it's -27° C (about 5.5 meters per second.) I should mention that this is mild for this time of year in this region!

That is great. I have some advice for you. My dad and I did a lot of ice fishing. We had a Eskimo ice fishing shanty it tent on a sled. They work great. It could be -10 f and we would be in our shirts fishing. We had a portable heater but it was a two head heater that got really hot. They work great. All you do is make your holes and set the tent up next to it and stand the tent up and there was a overhang that would cover the holes and you could pack snow around the gap and fire up the heater and it was as warm as pie in a few minutes. I used the return address to find a sporting goods store so I could find one for you but I didn't have any luck. I don't know what they are called in your neck of the woods. You can find them for $50 used here in the USA. It would make it warm enough for you and EE to go out and spend all day on the ice. I don't know if that is something you would be interested in. I can Email you the information and prices here 8n the USA. Im sure they are going to be close to the same price. You could look up ice fishing on youtube and see what I'm talking about. If you think it's something that you can use and want one I think I could order one for you. Another thing is if your outside and you hole keeps icing over you can spray paint a piece of cardboard flat black and it will absorb the heat from the sun and help keep your ice hole clear longer. Just lete know if you could use one. I would like to help and you don't have to freeze your hands off staying warm. You can get gloves that use the charcoal heaters in them to help keep your hands warm. Same with six. They have them for your feet also. I know a lot about winter survival from Boyscouts. We would go camping in minus 0 weather at least once a year. There are so many trucks to keep warm. You don't need to torture yourself to bring us these wonderful videos. If I can help you out so your not miserable in the cold I will help. 8m sure your not a dummy when it comes to the cold weather. 8m sure the military taught you some things I don't know about. I'm always wanting to learn. Happy History Hunting.😁

Good idea and try. Limitations are the strength of that little ROVs jaws and the pulling power of the fan blades. The issue I see you having is that you need to have object within jaws of grapple to disconnect after grabbing, said object and having a separate line to itself, thereby allowing you to lift free of ROV. ROV should only be a means to get whatever you're using as a means to clamp around object to the object itself, including separate rope.

Just now ran across the video that you published 8 February 2018 in which I do believe you had found the three pieces of the plate that had been shown in this video. Thank you for the many, many videos, explanations and history you’ve saved and graciously shared with us!

I was squeezing with my legs and on the edge of my seat as it was trying so hard to grasp the plate and move it. What an awesome artifact. Would be great if you could modify the grapple to rotate. I was freezing my ass off just watching. I know you were miserable cold. I subbed.

Another great adventure by the WW2 History Hunter Team. Thank you and sorry to see you turned into a human frozen pop-cycle. From Sunny warm California :) Sorry I could not resist.
Suggestion: A rubber surface on the new claw may help you grab objects a little easier.

Is it possible to glue on rubber pads to fit the shape of your modified grabber extension, to give yourself a firmer grip and also a better chance of recovery

Use some bicycle tyre rubber on your grabber . Also if you paint a long pole with a color like yellow you will be able to turn and see where your hole is easier , and wear scuba gloves :-).The cord you moved and dropped could have been a WW2 aircraft sparkplug cable.

    • @WW2HistoryHunter

Very nice find. Top marks for stating out there in those kind of conditions. Maybe look into some heated gloves if you plan to go out in those kind of temperatures on a regular basis. Would the fingers from a gripper glove slide over your modification to the arms and give some more grip to the pads?

You are so fortunate to be able to recover ww2 finds. Here in Canada our government has made an effort to erase the training areas for the Second World War. To find German anything, would truly be a dream come true for me. I’m envious of you. Feel free to send me something.

Awesome video as always. For being out on a lake like that you should consider getting yourself a shelter like ice fisherman use.
I also wonder would adding some rubber pads to your modified gripper? I just wonder if it would give you some added grip and depending on how think/soft it is may conform to object your trying to recover.

    Doesn't the 'grabber' rotate?
Seems that if it does it might be easier to grab flatish objects if you could rotate the grabber 90°.

At 14:22 that looks like an engine block. Try oxy clean. I've seen it remove tar from ceramics from cigarette smoke. Just in the future 😉 Might also run some 50 pound fishing line along your cable to that handle so if you get in trouble you are pulling more on the fishing line than the Cable.

Hi. Great video. One suggestion for your next underwater adventure. Have you ever thought of using a mesh bag (similar to a fishing net) to gather and haul to the surface using muscle power rather than battery power? Some kind of webbed carrying sack, tied with paracord, sitting on the sea floor. As you collect your treasures into the weighted bag, you can haul to the surface many items rather than one item at a time. This method was, or is, used by deep sea treasure hunters to maximize time and effort in the water allowing for the use of arm strength to bring multiple items to the surface. In a similar vain, have you considered a tethered grappling hook, dropped into place by your ROV/UAV? It is easy for me to "armchair quarterback", sitting indoors with a hot cup of coffee and dry socks, but I have had the occasion to go ice fishing and know what it is like to have wet hands at -10C or -20C. These suggestions may be too ambitious and too cumbersome, but they are food for thought. Good luck on your next adventure.

Got some beer bottles with screw in caps, that were made at latest 1915, as the dump site they were dug out of was closed around 1920. A good bit down in the ground, and only date coding is H in the bottom glass. Stamped as "Property of South African Breweries" with the cap marked as "Rileys patent", with the remains of the rubber seal.
