As soon as Teller exits stage right, he runs to stage left and waits behind the covered chain link fence there. At 5:54, the assistant removes the black cloth from the backside of the box cover and pretends to stretch it before folding it, in that moment Teller can crouch behind the cloth and get to the back of the box and climbing in through a hidden hatch. If you look for that moment, it becomes really obvious. Not sure when and how Penn got out of the box though.
My guess is there was a time where Penn and an assistant swapped places? Possibly when Teller is standing between the box and the proscenium, there is a window of opportunity to swap because the box is very close to the side of the stage?
@@ItsPhillip My thought as well, the hand probably never was Penn's to begin with. But I didn't pay attention when that swap might have happened, the one at the end just stood out to me even when I wasn't looking for it. At that time, the "hand double" probably also left the box, when Teller went in. Guess I'll have to rewatch it.
The hand almost looked animatronic to me. The way Penn's voice changed to what sounded like a recording, as soon as he got in the box, made me think he was tunneling through a trapdoor as soon as the box closed. Also notice there's no metal plate when Penn leaves the box (trap door) but then they put the box on a metal plate so Teller has to go in behind the curtain that we see.
The way the assistant started to remove the black cloth from the back was a bit too obvious, especially when there was a chain link fence covered in black cloth right next to it…
Definitely. It was also a bit too obvious when Penn's voice tone and speed changed as soon as he got in the box. I get that it was supposed to sound like an echo but didn't pass the smell test.
Im not trying to degrade this trick at all, but it needed more practice before showing it to an audience. People come on the show to fool them. But I don't think they fooled anyone. I can't be the only one that caught the flash.

I am pretty sure that is a female's hand.

@@lindsey9650 Sorry, I replied with my normally unused profile @marcb.877, see my explanation above.

You're not. Most acts fool me, but I think I caught enough on just 1 viewing to know how 90% of this was done.
This really needs some work.
The hand is fake
