butchdeadlift10 I liked how he grew and evolved as a character. Kind of like Walley West did. I really like it when they depict Guy, John, Hal, and Kyle as kind of like the muskateers.
i actually had read all this before i saw these episodes and it actually gives i really nice hard edge to the hal jordan character reading it him sacrificing himself is one of the greatest green lantern moments in dc history
There are very few comics that care about enough to actually read, but good god i'd be lying if I said I didn't want to read all this green lantern stuff. All the different corps are pretty badass, and Blackest Night just sounds epic. It's just a shame that the actual movie had to be such a shit nugget and pretty much kill any potential of seeing this on the big screen.
+ClockworkHeart42 I know this is over a year now, but I wanna put in my two cents Blackest Night IS badass. It's pretty awesome and the art is gorgeous, but you should brush up on the Crisis stuff before diving in. I also recommend the side story, Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps, which follows Green Lantern more (Blackest Night more follows The Flash and The Atom) but it's pretty awesome overall.
and we have Hal's Emerald Action Team to thank for why we can't have a Green Lantern TV show or movie set featuring Alan Scott, why Guy Gardner is best known for that joke in Batman Brave and the Bold where Batman knocks him out with one punch, why Kyle Rayner only got 1 appearance in Superman the Animated Series, and hasn't been seen since, and why John Stewart will probably never see the big screen ever,
snakes3425 Kyle appeared like once in JLA where john wanted a break and have Kyle transfer over to hold the sector. I only knew John coz of JLA so was confused as fuck with the GL live action movie.
I will give Geoff Johns credit for thinking up some of the fixes regarding Hal's return and adding a new layer to the GL history. But regarding the DCnU 52 relaunch... that's another mess that would require a lot of time and manpower to comb over to see what works and what doesn't. You know, I'm kinda pissed that Scarecrow didn't get the chance to use the yellow ring much longer. Seeing if Batman could beat one of his top baddies wielding one of the most powerful weapons in the DCU would rock.
man all the stuff with multicolored rings makes me wanna read green lantern i was never a big fan really only got into spawn but damn that sounds pretty fricken interesting. Also could you do a video about spawn? :D
Quite simply, he never really turned evil as much as his own sense of justice turned him into a dictator, that is, he wiped out all crime in his sector, but his methods turned the Green Lantern symbol into the equivalent of the swastika, so yeah, The Guardians kind of had a bit of an issue with that.
Well I enjoyed the GL movie (The non earth parts anyhow)" out of some "out of touch" Teen age ignorance i suppose. Kinda wish that they'd trash that idea and go try out the John Stewart GL i love :D
I don't care about the movie, but this was not a waste of time, it was well done entertainment :) * Joins in on the slow clapping * I do dislike the idea of "dark rings" though, dark is just absence of light, and as such has different properties than light.
Lokiraak Yes, you are correct about what reflects and absorbs what. However it's because whenever we see color it's because that band of the spectrum is being reflected and the rest are being absorbed, i.e., green object reflects green light. So the reason white reflects all is because it's made up of all, and the reason black absorb all is because it's made up of none.
Lokiraak I actually was going to bring up paint because I'm a bit of an artist so I'm aware of this little paradox. Mixing light directly is called additive mixing, while mixing paint is known as subtractive mixing. This is because paint has to rely on an external light source. This means your not mixing the wavelengths of color directly but rather their reflections, so, like the name implies, everything's inverted.
yeah I read zero hour back when it came out,but didn't really remember it,so I read it again but not before I read Final Night. So when I read Zero Hour again I was like WTF? if he died in Zero Hour how is he alive in Final Night? F'n B.S.
It still bothers me that Flash became the Blue Lantern. SUPERMAN is just floating there with the Kryptonian symbol for hope on his chest, galactic icon for peace and overcoming adversity... and Barry gets the ring? I know why from a writing perspective, because Superman with a power ring becomes the main character and it is supposed to be Hal "I am so boring" Jordan's story, not Superman's. But in universe it is silly.
exactly why it is not working too well they are giving new origins to all the characters and starting new books but everything continuity is meant to be in continuity still and it is messing everything up
Wow, COMICS really ARE WEIRD! I'm the kind of guy who wants to get into them for the continuity, but its just too much to handle over so many series, that it's night impossible to start anywhere but the beginning, and good luck getting every comic ever form DC and Marvel without piracy......
The best way to start is to pick a character you like and read through the most recent story arc. Anything that gets confusing or you don't understand the reference, you can go to the internet and look up. Luckily, DC recently rebooted their entire universe, so you may be able to read up from the reboot without too much trouble. Have fun!
Ryan Potosky Except Green Lantern and Batman. They decided not to reboot them because they were selling well as-is. It made things complicated, I'll tell you what.
Ok....time for putting my neck on the chopping block. (Sigh) Doesn't comic book ingrained continuity seem like the (and borrowing from another Escapist critic) "As impenetrable as a granite octopus" mixed storylines of the recently yanked off TV soap operas?
Jen Soon Ng And Kingdom Hearts too. Those two are the equivalent of the bs of comic books in story terms....but are actually my 2 favorite series of all time, followed by Zelda
i like Marvel because they created the ultimate universe where they take all the stories that have happened with the heroes and compressed them and removed all the silly bits. And i think that DC also needs an "ultimate" universe that isn't in regular continuity and really polishes the DC heroes stories and at least have a FUCKING ending.
Fans came up with IMHO a far better solution based on the Malvolio story arc (hoosierinanity.blogspot.com/2008/08/moments-in-green-lantern-history.html ) The ring Hal was wearing was *not* GL ring but a ring Malvolio tricked Hal into taking to replace his own.
so, yes. this was a waste of time. but to steal a quote from god-knows-where "time you spent doing something you enjoy is never time wasted." so it also wasn't a waste of time. hooray!
of course would Warner Brothers did bite the bullet and make everything shared Universe they still managed to s*** the bed because Warner Brothers doesn't know how to do anything
Wow really this is like a mind fuck and this could of been used to link all of WB movies together but that would mean having to make shot ton of movies that are actually good only person you can cross off really is batman but to bad your not gonna be able to get him for a movie
In my opinion the idea that Hal has been posessed by Parallax responsible for most of his evil deeds is more ridiculous than Hal being a villain. I liked him being Spectre and although I enjoy the recreated Green Lantern Corps, I think that with already 3 or 4 other Green Lanterns from Earth, the presence of Hal isn't necessary any more. Maybe it's because I have read Green Lantern comics in 2000s and I prefer Kyle Rayner.
I guess it wasnt time all wasted...okay maybe it was, but how cool would it be if they made a second movie with all that rainbow shit that happened...I don't think the movie was received well enough to get a sequel, but who knows!
I joined in on that slow clap.
Joel Farrelly
Me too.
"In early day or late at night
It's not my problem, I'll be alright
No cause you name is worth the fight
But if I'm bored, then yeah, I might"
I liked Kyle Rayner........I hated his love life, but I loved his rookie nature and the "only limits are his imagination" motif.
butchdeadlift10 I liked how he grew and evolved as a character. Kind of like Walley West did. I really like it when they depict Guy, John, Hal, and Kyle as kind of like the muskateers.
butchdeadlift10 when i was a kid i was a huge fan because he had a cool costume.
2:56
Just mentally replace "if you're familiar with the real light spectrum" with "If you're familiar with basic color-coding tropes in storytelling"
Well played Johns, Well played.
i actually had read all this before i saw these episodes and it actually gives i really nice hard edge to the hal jordan character reading it him sacrificing himself is one of the greatest green lantern moments in dc history
Cillian Murphy as a Yellow Scarecrow would be AWESOME.....
I recommend that it's just awesome
+ClockworkHeart42 I know this is over a year now, but I wanna put in my two cents
Blackest Night IS badass.
And then you went and saw the movie...
...
Oh...
That "Oh" reminded me of Plinket XD
Jonatas Silva
That's actually what I was going for.
darkdowngrade Clap....clap....clap
For anybody who's confused: ruclips.net/video/VtmXrbf09HI/видео.html
3:45-3:50 needs to have its own video.
I love you, Bob...
So much for the movie following ANY of this.
and we have Hal's Emerald Action Team to thank for why we can't have a Green Lantern TV show or movie set featuring Alan Scott, why Guy Gardner is best known for that joke in Batman Brave and the Bold where Batman knocks him out with one punch, why Kyle Rayner only got 1 appearance in Superman the Animated Series, and hasn't been seen since, and why John Stewart will probably never see the big screen ever,

whenever my school jazz band is setting up the rhythm section (im the drummer) and our first chair clarinet always play the opening :)
Sadly Bob, it was...
The Green Lantern Movie bombed terribly....
Thank you though for the expansive history/backstory of Green Lantern proper
No mention of Pieface, Bob? How will we ever be ready for the movie??
I'm watching this now, and I think we have the answer to your question at 4:16, Bob.
It's never a waste of time Bob;D
I will give Geoff Johns credit for thinking up some of the fixes regarding Hal's return and adding a new layer to the GL history. But regarding the DCnU 52 relaunch... that's another mess that would require a lot of time and manpower to comb over to see what works and what doesn't.

Clap...Clap...Clap. Nekron!
man all the stuff with multicolored rings makes me wanna read green lantern i was never a big fan really only got into spawn but damn that sounds pretty fricken interesting.
Also could you do a video about spawn? :D
This was entertaining to watch. :)
Geoff Johns is such a fucking genius omg
I hope and pray that he fix the D.C. Movie universe. Johns gave us D.C. Rebirth and it is awesome!!
Best. Reason. Ever
My personal favorite is the Blue Lanter Saint Walker.
4:10 lol
am i the only one that finds big bird ungodly frightening?
This actually sounds kind of cool.
the're trying that with "the new 52" but so far not working too well
Dame green lantern can be a very good movie
The only reason I know yellow is the Green Lantern's weakness was that one Big Bang THeory episode
CAN'T I WANT A MORGAN FREEMAN GREEN LANTERN!
i love DC now
Blackest Night was bad ass
Haven't read Brightest Day yet but I've heard its good, but not as good
let's be fair, Geoff Johns also gave Kyle Rayner an awesome role in his storylines
@KyutoAbridged he has go to the escapistmagazine and watch more of his stuff he covered the clone saga
I kinda dig the color spectrum thing honestly
And then New 52 happened.
Most of the Green Lantern history went basically unchanged in the New 52. They and Batman had brief speedbumps but then just continued like normal.
Why did sinestro turn evil I'm genuinely curious. I know he was a good guy even before the movie said that he was at one point a good guy
Hold on need to pick up my scattered brains off the floor.
becuase batman
Oh, retrospect..
Hmmm... Doesn't look like that shared universe in the movies thing is working so well for DC. Too bad. I like a lot of these guys.
actually in spectrum of light there is no black and white is a all colors in one
slow clap for genuine cleverness
Well I enjoyed the GL movie (The non earth parts anyhow)" out of some "out of touch" Teen age ignorance i suppose. Kinda wish that they'd trash that idea and go try out the John Stewart GL i love :D
I don't care about the movie, but this was not a waste of time, it was well done entertainment :)
* Joins in on the slow clapping *
I do dislike the idea of "dark rings" though, dark is just absence of light, and as such has different properties than light.
i thought the 52 series wasn't strictly a reboot and still in continuity?
oh geoff johns, how us GL fanboys miss you :(
it's a shame. i really like the concept of the green lantern
Where can I read the blackest night saga?
Why is Bob worried about wasting people's time when he's talking directly to potential Comic Book Nerds? xD
Because,... because Batman!
White and Black aren't technically in the color Spectrum.
White is all colors. Black is the absence of Color.
It's the other way around: Black absorbs all colours and white reflects all colours.
Lokiraak
Yes, you are correct about what reflects and absorbs what. However it's because whenever we see color it's because that band of the spectrum is being reflected and the rest are being absorbed, i.e., green object reflects green light. So the reason white reflects all is because it's made up of all, and the reason black absorb all is because it's made up of none.
MarxForever Yet if you mixed all colours into one paint you'd get black.
Lokiraak
I actually was going to bring up paint because I'm a bit of an artist so I'm aware of this little paradox. Mixing light directly is called additive mixing, while mixing paint is known as subtractive mixing. This is because paint has to rely on an external light source. This means your not mixing the wavelengths of color directly but rather their reflections, so, like the name implies, everything's inverted.
MarxForever god damn that is good color conversation
Check your local library, its been at everyone I've ever been to.
yeah I read zero hour back when it came out,but didn't really remember it,so I read it again but not before I read Final Night. So when I read Zero Hour again I was like WTF? if he died in Zero Hour how is he alive in Final Night? F'n B.S.
He wouldve been if he wasnt so fixated on his own new powers. Instead he gets taken out very very early.
So.. When is he gonna explain the Superman thing?!
Joshua Pelfrey Also because Superman was busy being possessed by the Black Lantern ring at the time.
TheRealPentigan that didn't stop Wonder Woman.
They should make a blackest night film
"how cool is that" for yellow scare crow doesn't quite cove it in my opinion
exactly why it is not working too well they are giving new origins to all the characters and starting new books but everything continuity is meant to be in continuity still and it is messing everything up
wait just on moment....
"brightest day"?
"blackest night"?
am i the only one who sees the correlation with the whole Green Lantern mantra.... thing?
Wow, COMICS really ARE WEIRD! I'm the kind of guy who wants to get into them for the continuity, but its just too much to handle over so many series, that it's night impossible to start anywhere but the beginning, and good luck getting every comic ever form DC and Marvel without piracy......

anyone able to follow the B.S. that is the comic story line
After going through Metal Gear Solid storyline, anything is possible
Jen Soon Ng And Kingdom Hearts too. Those two are the equivalent of the bs of comic books in story terms....but are actually my 2 favorite series of all time, followed by Zelda
That's comics for ya.
i like Marvel because they created the ultimate universe where they take all the stories that have happened with the heroes and compressed them and removed all the silly bits. And i think that DC also needs an "ultimate" universe that isn't in regular continuity and really polishes the DC heroes stories and at least have a FUCKING ending.

And thats where we got the goddam batman SIGH
and so every one comes back and is happy and forgives him... except batman, because um batman
H.E.A.T. are comic book legends, they did the right thing.
In my opinion the idea that Hal has been posessed by Parallax responsible for most of his evil deeds is more ridiculous than Hal being a villain. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
BECAUSE IM BATMAN!
The Scarecrow as Yellow Lantern was indeed cool, but of course his was the first taken away....oh yeah SPOILER ALERT.
maybe they shouldn't have hired frank miller?
so if you put all the rings together there could be a gay lantern
huh, you skipped New Frontier? where a disgruntle fanboy became an artist but got hired by Bruce Timm and became the best story teller then died?
I guess it wasnt time all wasted...okay maybe it was, but how cool would it be if they made a second movie with all that rainbow shit that happened...I don't think the movie was received well enough to get a sequel, but who knows!
I got a new one for you Bob: "Movie Studios are Stupid!"
where the those HEAT guys to protest that horrible green lantern movie
That the Parralax retcon was really stupid.
Spoiler alert: it was all a waste of time.
Magic rings.......wtfever.
black and white arent colors
Dude colors are completely irrelevant due to us not giving a shit
dude I'm just mentioning that black white and grey arent colors
I mean if they are considered as colors in universe why not add hues in to the mix ?
Jon Stewart is one the most boring characters out there.
Black and white aren't on the spectrum.
All light vs complete lack of light is how those work
