+ShadowRealmSurvivor "And now Carol Danvers is just straight-up Captain Marvel [...] How awesome is that?" As a long time "Monica Rambeau as Captain Marvel" fan I'll say, not at all, it's not at all awesome.
Between "too complicated", "especially wierd", and "crosseyed" .... i'm not sure if i'd like you to explain the relationship between X-Man, Cable, and Rachel Summers or not .... :D
God I'm dumb. I was about to say "Really? Who's that?" when I remembered one of my favourite Marvel characters Kamala Khan. Good fricking God the fact I even needed to think about it worries me.
Actually, some of this didn't go over my head. I was there for the Avengers Disassembled, House of M, and Dark Avengers story arcs so after a certain point I actually already knew where this was leading. Ms. Marvel is actually one of my favorite female superheroes. When all is said and done, she's got a pretty good attitude and mentality for the genre she's in.
ironically enough, Joss Whedon would then go on to write a storyline in Angel which would be very absurd in pretty much the same way as the Ms. Marvel disaster, all because he was pissed off at the female lead of the show for getting pregnant
Over time Carol Danvers has become one of my favourite Marvel characters but I had only really read a bit of her history on Wikipedia and a Marvel Wikia so these episodes certainly gave be a better look at her history. At the moment her run as Captain Marvel is one of Marvel's better comics being released at the moment along with Ultimate Spider-Man.
From these two videos I might actually get into marvel comics again, I did awhile ago but stopped, now I think I found a character I can enjoy reading about, if not well, just "looking at" *cough cough"
I think you might need a part 3 MovieBob, considering that Carol Danver's is now officially Captain Marvel and apparently i think its rumored an Arabic girl will take up the mantel of Ms.Marvel... but you are right, i think she might be the premiere female super hero in the Marvel Universe with her own title and all
I'm excited to see how the MCU reworks Captain Marvel in her new standalone movie and Infinity War pt. 2! Who knew revisiting these old Big Pictures would have so much relevance to today...
I know this comment is old but I'd be willing to bet he will. However that might be a few years from now. He probably will do something when her movie gets close to coming out.....in about 4 years.
Once he was let go from the Escapist he more or less continued to do this show under another name: In Bob We Trust. He mentioned the new Ms. Marvel in his video "7 Muslim superheroes that belong in the MCU".
The short version is that you'd have to use some of your super large storage capacity to remember this stuff. The long version is go read a goddamn book or something.
so rouge has kree energy aswell as her natural mutation in the cartoon series? why does she HAVE to have ms marvel's mind trapped within hers to keep them? if she doesn't have to stay there why didn't professor X move it back to her body?
Since the whole Superior business happened where Doc Ock's Spidey got romantically involved with really awesome Anna Maria Marconi, tutor of Peter Parker and Marvel's resident highest profile little person and Carol Danvers became *Captain* Marvel... Dropped.
ranwolf76 It was sadly dropped, but it was really cool while it lasted. Some of the best banter in comics and they really looked like they had fun together. I know I'm responding like a year after you posted, but I just had to respond. I really liked that pairing
+Tazcam Bob and a bunch of people got laid of from Escapist, and you can find more of his work on moviebob.blogspot.com, and his new show with Screw Attack is "In Bob We Trust."
I'm kinda surprised he didn't just sum up "House of M" as "The one where people die. Quite a few people actually." Come to think of it, that sounds a bit more like Yahtzee or Jim.
Except his characters have developed personalities and aren't token kickass ninja girls. That's what makes it good characterization and not stereotyping.
And today it's fashionable to bust on Joss Whedon for not really being good with female characters but just trading one male fantasy for another, lesser known (at the time) one (Waif Fu)
Lethal Jam Kind of? Originally she was adopted and raised by Mystique, Destiny and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (though some continuities are a little different), which is why she was a bad guy in the first comics.
+mothamaeghan Funnily enough, she was supposed to be the biological daughter of Mystique and Destiny but Marvel was like 'MMmmmmn no can't do that. That's too gay, even if Mystique took the shape of a man.'
it pisses me off that they re-named her Captain Marvel at some point, because: 1 it takes her gender out of her super identity, which wouldn't be a bad thing but that's like renaming Wonder Woman to The Warrior Wonder or aught similar. 2 there is a captain marvel in DC and I'm pretty sure he's more popular. 3 ms. Marvel is just a better name. 4 Captain of what!? (that can be aimed at any "captain ..." but still)
1. As Bob has pointed out in these videos she's had a few identities including Captain Marvel in House of M. 2. Actually since the New 52 in 2011 DC's Captain Marvel has just gone by the name of his books; Shazam. It's confusing since that's the word he uses to transform but this is important because this happened before Carol Danvers became Marvel's new Captain Marvel in 2012. In fact this fixes the entire problem, Marvel who own the publishing rights to the name Captain Marvel finally have a popular character under that name and DC don't need to avoid their character's name now that he is Shazam. 3. Well we've got a new Ms. Marvel now, and she's a great character too. 4. Well she was a colonel when she was in the Royal Air Force, in Captain Marvel volume 1 she points out she technically outranks Captain America.
1. yeah, batman was a pirate, a cowboy and probably a lot of other stuff during "the return of Bruce Wayne" and I'd still flip my shit if he turned musketeer ... why does it always come back to batman?... 2. oh... well I guess that's that. 3. yeah... at least the name wont go to waste. 4. oh? Oh!? she actually is a "captain"!? Then the name actually makes sense, good on her. you had excellent points there.
1. I didn't realize heroes had to have their gender identified in their name... 2. Well, D.C. didn't come up with Captain Marvel, another company did and he was basically a Superman ripoff. So DC sued the other company who then had to stop running Captain Marvel and, years later, that comapny sold all its rights to DC who then brought Captain Marvel back to life. As far as the Marvel Iteration of Captain Marvel goes. The original Captain Marvel was a Kree named Mar Vell who was a Captain in the Kree Space Navy. He started going by Captain Marvel, when a human misheard his name and started calling him Marvel. This was the Kree man who is responsible for Ms. Marvel gaining her powers in the first place. So after two completely different Heroes utilized and then discarded the Captain Marvel name, Ms. Marvel decided to use it, as well as pants. 3. That's your opinion. Captain has a bit more authority than "Ms." but whatever.
Thanotos Omega I disagree. He can change the story if he wants, but no need to get disk-ish towards your fellow artists, especially since it wasn't so bad. Typical "villain mesmerized woman into loving/marrying him" stuff that's been seen and done before. Didn't Claremont himself have Jean Grey mind-controlled in the "Dark Phoenix Saga"? Same again with the Mesmero story. I'm sure sex was involved in both.
Vebinz The difference is Everyone was pissed at the guys doing those and tried to stop it, Here an entire group stood there and let it happen, ignoring the person whose life was on the line, There is a allot more wrong with "Young woman gang raped and whole town says get over it we need those guys to take us to the state playoffs," and "Young woman raped school expels guilty parties pending trial, Mayor praises her courage in coming forward,"
Vebinz Exactly, You can do a mind control Rape story, but you have to do it very well. or your an ass, Also even the folks who made it try to avoid taking responsibility for it, with only the editor admitting he is technically responsible since he had to of signed off on it, but he claims he has no idea how he let that one get by him,
That "I've gone crossyed" bit was hilarious.
"But how callous! How cruel! How unfeeling!" Yup, Claremont was a comicbook writer, alright.
thehorror
T
And that's terrible.
And now Carol Danvers is just straight-up Captain Marvel, and we have a new Ms. Marvel, who is Muslim-American. How awesome is that?
What actually happened to the original Captain Marvel, btw?
Wait. She's a different race serving as a positive role model to a severely marginalized race and religion?
Goddamn SJWs and their progression ray!
Shes not even a positive role model she is a jackass to alot of characters and Islam isn't exactly a pro woman religion.
+ShadowRealmSurvivor
"And now Carol Danvers is just straight-up Captain Marvel [...] How awesome is that?"
As a long time "Monica Rambeau as Captain Marvel" fan I'll say, not at all, it's not at all awesome.
Pretty godamn awesome, that’s what it is!
Actually the '90's cartoon has an episode depicting Rogue absorbing Ms. Marvel's powers while working for Mystique.
"And I've gone cross-eyed" may be the funniest gag Movie Bob's ever done
And now, Carol's movie is about to come out.
Maybe its time for another recap, Mr. Chipman.
He just did. Too bad it wasn't really about Comics are Weird.
@@ivansobubblehead I know, kinda sucks.
edit: I have no idea why I said "kinda sucks".

:D
Wow. Both of these videos have literally shed so much light on this character that I had no idea about. Kudos, MovieBob.
Funny enough she did become Captain Marvel eventually
Go Carol Corps!
And a new character took up the mantel of Ms. Marvel who's also pretty damn awesome!
God I'm dumb.

Thank you Bob, thank you.
I love Ms. Marvel.
That would explain the item in X-men Legends that was named war birds. Didn't know who that was.
Bravo Bob, bravo!
i laughed when he said 'and ive gone cross eyed' :)
From these two videos I might actually get into marvel comics again, I did awhile ago but stopped, now I think I found a character I can enjoy reading about, if not well, just "looking at" *cough cough"
I learn so much watching this stuff its crazy. Now if only it had some actual applications xD

I was gonna use these braincells for an upcomming spanish test D;
She's Captain Marvel again now, and rocking a really nice uniform XD :-D
my brain cells T_T
That. Was. Awesome.
I'm excited to see how the MCU reworks Captain Marvel in her new standalone movie and Infinity War pt. 2! Who knew revisiting these old Big Pictures would have so much relevance to today...
I like Moonstone too
Love this nerdy episodes.
I really wont use these braincells for anything else. Exam week here I come!
My brain grew eyeballs just so it could cross them.
Loved that last line. I use alcohol to filter out the weak brain cells.. oh wait....
Nice one Bob!
love this web series
I wonder if Movie-Bob will ever mention the new Ms. Marvel, if not as the subject to an episode, then at least in passing in one.
I know this comment is old but I'd be willing to bet he will. However that might be a few years from now. He probably will do something when her movie gets close to coming out.....in about 4 years.

I've heard rumors that they're planning a Ms. Marvel Movie, and I hope they ignore all the crap in her early history.
*chants* bob,bob,bob
the big picture is like the obnoxious but hilarious big brother i never had
But... but I was going to use them for my test tomorrow!
I alway love waiting for movie bobs videos.
Can't wait for the movie.
+Orgaya oh boy is that gonna be interesting XD
The short version is that you'd have to use some of your super large storage capacity to remember this stuff. The long version is go read a goddamn book or something.
ironman figured it out? takes one to know one i guess....
Four people, actually:
James Shooter
George Pérez
Bob Layton
David Michelinie
Movie was pretty alright. I had fun. Wasn't groundbreaking but it was small and fun and exactly what i thought it'd be.
what???????? ms marvel was Binary?????? word I had no idea lol
rogue also started out as a 50 year old woman
3:11 Take a note, folks. That what the Summers Family Tree does to ya. Avoid it.
Whoa burnnn.
so rouge has kree energy aswell as her natural mutation in the cartoon series? why does she HAVE to have ms marvel's mind trapped within hers to keep them? if she doesn't have to stay there why didn't professor X move it back to her body?
Well then, Lets just see how fast can you think with Portals!
Well that was fun. I think.
I think "I've gone cross-eyed" doesn't quite cover it
2:06-TELL ME that she isn't kissing/draining ROM.
She is, actually. Apparently, she absorbed part of his kindness, which is what led her to becoming good in the first place. Comics are weird, indeed.
so did anything happen with the Spider-man/Ms.Marvel thing or was it dropped?

Don't let Ms. Marvel be on top Spiderman, she'll break your pelvis
She's Warbird to me, I'ma call her Warbird, fuck it.
Go over the death of Superman
you're right, I wasn't.
Say... who DID write Avengers #200? Is he still writing today?

She's pretty much the Marvel Universe's chew toy.
Isn't rogue mystique's daughter?

Michael Kemel I know right? She's the go to baby mama. Maybe because of her shapeshifting powers?
stuff.
Okay then.

"Captain" as a title is a gender-neutral term. It's a title of military rank. Your first point is moot.

The D.C. Marvel family hasn't been as popular, as the Marvel versions, since the 60s, which was before Marvel had one.
binary sucked
I get why he congratulates Claremont. but there is something asshole-ish about Claremont using the story to put down fellow comic writers.
