"If Bewitched was DC and Marvel comics, 'why did Darren transform' would be a whole miniseries'" And yet, The MCU's explanation for Rhodey having a different actor was "Hey, it's me, I'm here, let's just do this."
QueenCloveroftheice Lol no, what I'm saying is your suggestion makes perfect sense. It's simple & does the job. Comic book creators don't like to be simple and effective they like to be as convoluted and nonsensical as possible. They use clones, alternate dimensions, & time travel for everything little thing.
You're sort of right there. It's not that they do not plan ahead (Infinite Crisis and Final Crisis prove that they can), it's that these characters are valuable to DC and the fans are insanely devoted to them so they will never go away no matter what.
Marvel has One More Day and Dark Reign DC had the Crisis Series and New 52. No comic book industry is doing well. At least DC still has great animation and Marvel has amazing movies.
KazeAizen If by industry you mean the independent(sort of) industry where a lot of disappointed DC fans went for a while with quite few sticking there...
Thing is they aren't and don't need to. So far DC's been doing a lot of back paddlin' towards the previous universe, for example, most recently it turned out that Batman did indeed die and Dick Grayson took the mantle for a while. Yes, within the 5 years superheroes were active in this not-so-new universe.
FrostBandanaDude Yeah kind of disappointed in that. Still wish they would've gone whole hog instead of half way when they rebooted. Either way The New 52 is one of those cases where it got WAY more hate than it ever deserved. Besides having Superman/Wonder Woman be a thing in the main universe. I'm on board.
Marvel actually creates a new universe every time time travel happens in their main continuities. So the future you see in that story is really in another reality. Marvel also treats the movie and cartoon adaptations of their comics as separate worlds, so that they technically exist together with their comic counterparts but in another dimension.
Ah, yes, that magical time just after Crisis, where Wonder Woman first teamed up with the other heroes in the same storyline that launched the Suicide Squad, and Superman of all people was a "lone wolf" who had yet to join the Justice League. Can you imagine? Also, Bob, you seriously couldn't have found a better picture of Huntress? Like say, the Jim Lee or Ed Benes versions?
I actually enjoy Superman/Batman stories. It's great to see the dynamic of these two diametrically opposed heroes work together, and having their different methods, ideologies, and strengths and skills play off each other. That isn't to say that all Superman/Batman stories are good, but it's a little harsh to write them off as lazy senseless cash-ins.
It is. I was always into reading stuff. But since in my country not only is hard to find comics, but I also had to deal with continuity. So manga was the authernative. And I'm an otaku since then. But now, thanks to the Marvel movies and Arkham series and Dark knight movies,I'm trying again to get into comics.
actually The Flash survived the Crisis storyline. he just got transported over to the Marvel Universe... www.cracked.com/blog/4-unlicensed-crossovers-hidden-in-famous-comics_p2/
I think the primary concern is corporations like Monsanto who may not be properly researching the full effects of genetically modifiying crops on later human consumption. Good points though.
Here's an idea. Mirror universe Joker is a crime fighting psychologist (working in a run down hospital because criminal profilers are old hat now) using his intellect and chemistry (fuck it he's also a chemist, why not) skills and knack for gadgets to fight a sadistic club of wealthy crooks. His arch enemy? Just think Chris Bale in American Psycho. It could work.
This is why shows end. The classic example is Breaking Bad... there is no way you'd want to even try to keep that ball in the air, and almost, it was up slightly longer than it should have been. Pinkman gets beat up too often... you can't unflip Skyler from being hated to loved to hated. Well ok, you probably could, but I don't think it would be good. Actually she could have easily stepped into Walters shoes and used all his contacts etc. Anyway, still mostly happy they didn't go down that road.
It is like witch cleanig room, you say to your self that you will not let in get messy again, but you alweys fail. Rithers of comisks should learn how to let it go, just end series. Maby they fear that thay will never thing of something as good and thats why they try to drain evry single drop of it.
It wasn't Green Arrow who lost his arm, it's his sidekick Red Arrow, or Arsenal. Arsenal lost his arm in a fight with the villain prometheus, he was winning but Prometheus manages to get lucky and get a cheap shot in on Arsenal which cuts off his arm. This is actually incredibly stupid considering the fact that panels ago Prometheus had literally took on Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman in a fight and WON. However Arsenal somehow managed to almost beat him barehanded.
I wasn't trying to prove manga is better, I was just saying that I think Manga is alot easier to get into. I understand that they are completely different in style. I have just prefered manga. If you like comics then that's awesome.
And now tv show fans know what this "Earth 2" bullshit is because they watched the Flash, where the biggest contribution to come out of that is watching Tom Cavanaugh stuff an entire Saturday Night Live/Mad Tv career into a CW superhero show. I kid, though Tom Cavanaugh is awesome on that show.
Yet old stalwarts hate the new 52. At least for as much as I've seen. What else is new though? Internet doesn't like change unless it meets their exact specifications.
Continuity in comics is the worst thing. Seriously. Instead of telling a good story the writers are forced into retcons and ridiculous explanations for why things are the way they are with characters that have died, been reborn, had kids, and have dozens of origins stories because they've done everything. IT JUST IS. So enjoy the story
Not Sure about Marvel or DC, but Spirou continuity is a mess as well (no surprise for a 80 years old setting that never was rebooted), but nobody cares since the main series and all the secondary series and spin-off series taking place in the same universe are all great and a bit of continuity mess doesn't matter for the enjoyment of the actual stories. So my guess is that you just enjoy Marvel comics less than DC comics and thus tend to notice the details you wouldn't care about if you were entertained.
This is why i don't read comics. Jesus Christ I feel like I have to read 100 pages of wikipedia to get into comics. With manga I just have to go to the store and find Hellsing Vol 1! No previous reading on other stuff. If it says volume 1 then you can star there. Comics, I can't even tell which stories are continuity or not.
SrGurkman Nope, The story line in question was published in "Justice Leage of America" issues #29 and 30 and was titled "Crisis on Earth-Three". There was also the Grant Morrison "JLA: Earth Two" graphic novel which was a more recent take on the idea. IE The Post Crisis on Infinite Earths timeline.
The New 52 is a joke. It should've been a straight restart. No miniseries, no Crisis, just start fresh. We still have those old comics to read but I don't know anyone who's not read DC in a long time who wants to now. They just don't want to follow what's continuity and what's not, what takes place five years ago an what's happening now, etc. It's too unwieldy. I think current readers would accept it and it may get some new ones interested. I don't even read DC anymore. That's saying something.
batman did f*cking die!!!! he came back to life in the "blackest night" event, then he got zapped into the past, if you have read both stories, you'll see in the "return of Bruce Wayne" storyline, that even though Bruce wayne is alive and in his physical form, his ashes were still in the rocket thing that "zapped" him into the different eras
This is why I stick with manga series it's not hard to start from one and I don't have oodles of backstory to sift through...American Comics are so strange...but then again I'm the idiot writing a research paper comparing American Comics and Manga >.
This perfectly sums up why DC is completely worthless in my eyes, beyond the admittedly foundational creations of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Everything after the golden age.....no. Just a void of nothing.
DC these days is so convoluted with their history, plus going with the worst storylines and ideas ever (anyone really calling for the one armed, emo Roy Harper or evil Mary Marvel... besides DeviantArt), its pretty much killing itself by making bad choices (IE sticking with their fanbase and ignoring newcomers) the whole company, imo, is a fucking joke. If DC goes tits up in the near future, it'll only have itself to blame for going for the quick fix rather than finding a long-term solution.
"If Bewitched was DC and Marvel comics, 'why did Darren transform' would be a whole miniseries'" And yet, The MCU's explanation for Rhodey having a different actor was "Hey, it's me, I'm here, let's just do this."
Wouldn't it make more sense to say that the old Flash stories actually happened and a comic artist just turned them into comics?
+QueenCloveroftheice Actually.. yeah!
Looks like nobody thought about that 50 years ago. Someone dropped the ball on that one.
Because comics are convoluted and simple solutions make sense and aren't confusing.
Absurdi TV But that would have been the simple solution lol
QueenCloveroftheice
Lol no, what I'm saying is your suggestion makes perfect sense. It's simple & does the job.
Comic book creators don't like to be simple and effective they like to be as convoluted and nonsensical as possible. They use clones, alternate dimensions, & time travel for everything little thing.
Absurdi TV Oh, I see. XD Sorry I read it wrong the first time.
I lost it at "pirate Batman"
Yarrr, I be vengeance. I be th' night. I be Bat-matey!
You're sort of right there. It's not that they do not plan ahead (Infinite Crisis and Final Crisis prove that they can), it's that these characters are valuable to DC and the fans are insanely devoted to them so they will never go away no matter what.
Marvel has One More Day and Dark Reign
DC had the Crisis Series and New 52.
No comic book industry is doing well.
At least DC still has great animation and Marvel has amazing movies.
Sounds like though the New 52 stunt that DC pulled more or less helped save the industry.
KazeAizen If by industry you mean the independent(sort of) industry where a lot of disappointed DC fans went for a while with quite few sticking there...
FrostBandanaDude No I mean the superhero comics industry as a whole. Also the disappointed DC fans really need to get over it.
Thing is they aren't and don't need to. That batman brave and the bold episode makes so much more sense now
Marvel actually creates a new universe every time time travel happens in their main continuities. So the future you see in that story is really in another reality. Please do an episode on just why Young Justice had to die...
I loved that show so much and it feels like it ended WAY too soon...
just as an aside, this is WHY more people can gen into manga as opposed to western comics like Marvel and DC, because this shit doesn't happen.
LOL actually this make me want to read comics, as a manga reader
I can't stand the art and themes of manga/anime. Never attracted me.
It is. I was always into reading stuff. But since in my country not only is hard to find comics, but I also had to deal with continuity. So manga was the authernative. And I'm an otaku since then. But now, thanks to the Marvel movies and Arkham series and Dark knight movies,I'm trying again to get into comics.
i also like how manga series actually end, if you ignore stuff like the dbz cash cow still being milked to death, even though the manga ended in 1994
Good point, but I could've stood for some more Soul Eater.
My eyes are so cross-eyed right now.
actually The Flash survived the Crisis storyline. he just got transported over to the Marvel Universe...
www.cracked.com/blog/4-unlicensed-crossovers-hidden-in-famous-comics_p2/
Couldn't they have just explained it away with the old Flash wrote comics about his earlier life as a superhero?
The reason why tv super heroes are better because stupid shit like Slate/Deathstroke sleeping with Terra can't happen on a PG cartoon.
Stupid? well I thought it was cool...
How old is deathstroke
His name is Slade.
whoops
Quilliam Keystrokes no it isn't... well...it is butI'm calling him Deathstroke
Fun times!
I think the primary concern is corporations like Monsanto who may not be properly researching the full effects of genetically modifiying crops on later human consumption. Good points though.

dorsk188 Well...I suppose I'm a DC fan, for instance, but I have a love-hate relationship with them.
This is why shows end. The classic example is Breaking Bad... there is no way you'd want to even try to keep that ball in the air, and almost, it was up slightly longer than it should have been. yaaay someone else who loves 52!
wha? who?
Arden DeMarco Seriously one of the greatest comic series ever published. 52 issues in one year and high quality story the entire time.
laz kar yes, I was referring to the old one :)
laz kar it was great. taught me a lot about some of the lesser known characters in the DCU too
It wasn't Green Arrow who lost his arm, it's his sidekick Red Arrow, or Arsenal. Arsenal lost his arm in a fight with the villain prometheus, he was winning but Prometheus manages to get lucky and get a cheap shot in on Arsenal which cuts off his arm.

They should to an Injustice skin pack of that "Justice League as villains and Lex Luther as a hero" universe.

Batman as a pirate was pretty fucking cool.
Bat Man as a pirate seem pretty fucking cool..
Thank God I only follow the DC Animated Universe.
so how did green arrow lose his arm ?
Hm, now i wanna buy Ultmate and final Crises, too ...
Continuity in comics is the worst thing. Seriously. What’s your favorite show ?
I've enjoyed what I've read of the New 52. DC comics continuity really isn't that hard to follow. In all honesty, I find Marvel much more confusing.

I prefer Young Justice's take of Huntress. Not so much "Hot Fanservice Lady" and moreso "Kinda-hot wheelchair-bound mom of Artemus"
He was even better when he was an old style detective
This is why i don't read comics. Jesus Christ I feel like I have to read 100 pages of wikipedia to get into comics. With manga I just have to go to the store and find Hellsing Vol 1! Whats the comic where the justice league are evil
Kingdom Come?
SrGurkman Nope, The story line in question was published in "Justice Leage of America" issues #29 and 30 and was titled "Crisis on Earth-Three". There was also the Grant Morrison "JLA: Earth Two" graphic novel which was a more recent take on the idea. IE The Post Crisis on Infinite Earths timeline.
@syafiqjabar Lol time travel is a bitch

The pains of being a DC fan put into words.
batman did f*cking die!!!! he came back to life in the "blackest night" event, then he got zapped into the past, if you have read both stories, you'll see in the "return of Bruce Wayne" storyline, that even though Bruce wayne is alive and in his physical form, his ashes were still in the rocket thing that "zapped" him into the different eras
you can't blame dc for keeping power girl, if you had to choose between angelina jolie or kristen stewart who would you choose.
Best way to die super man beats you to death with your detached arm
This is why I stick with manga series it's not hard to start from one and I don't have oodles of backstory to sift through...American Comics are so strange...but then again I'm the idiot writing a research paper comparing American Comics and Manga >.
This perfectly sums up why DC is completely worthless
in my eyes, beyond the admittedly foundational creations of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Everything after the golden age.....no.
Just a void of nothing.
I see nothing wrong with multiple earths, just with insufferable cross-overs to explain them.
Wait, DC has fans?
I thought they just had victims nowadays.
