I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think this is one of the rare instances where that's not true. Twilights romance story, as stupid and fucked up as it is, does not compare to this.
Wasn't Carol Danvers originally one of those civilian allies that superheroes usually have? And from what I hear from comics fans of the time, she was probably most awesome in this form.

I remember reading that story as a child, and yeah it is kinda messed up looking back. Since the narration claimed Carol to for the second time join her abuser by her own will, I thought all was fine. They probably shouldn't all is fine rape stories to kids.
This could have been a cool, pseudo-romantic sci-fi . . . if still incredibly weird story if they just took out the entire mind control aspect. Why not have hergo and romance him, only for him to go "I want you to help me get to earth". It's weird, but interesting. Throwing in the mind control is just dumb.

I'm shocked that no-one at that company saw this as a problem. i mean Bob was right, Ms Marvel was effectively raped and only a handful of people raised it as an issue. I mean, didn't anyone at any of the comic's story-writing stages stand up and say "this is wrong and we shouldn't be doing this" or anything like that? I mean sure there was that one guy, but who else?
I'd hardly call the phoenix force a baby or a wedding. Just saying. Scarlet Witch going bay shit crazy and uttering "No more mutants" was hardly a baby or a wedding either. Marvel are generally quite good with handling females; for comics anyway, at least their mutant females.

The execution and presentation of it are terrible but this just seems like a bad guy does horrific thing because he's the bad guy situation.
