- Just forty one inmates remain at the infamous Guantanamo Bay prison. But outside of the detention centre, more than 5,000 American troops and hundreds of staff call the US territory home.
Our reporter Harry Horton has been to Guantanamo Bay to look at the people and leisure facilities that sit awkwardly alongside the world’s most notorious prison.
Guantanamo Bay for prisoners: hell
Guantanamo Bay for American soldiers: paradise
Lived there in the 80s as a young child and was the coolest place a young boy could ever live.

Outstanding
@@carlosgzz5772 GTMO is awesome and one of the best best duty stations.
@卐Von Stroheim🏳️🌈⃠ I'm not a muslim, you idiot
@@Ape_Mode nice
The vulture on the fence...we called them "The Cuban Air Force " and were responsible for cleaning up the dead Banana Rats that were hit by cars.
It is crazy to think how nice it is there compare to whole cuba 😂😂.
I’ve worked there and I thought the first building you filmed wasn’t supposed to be filmed or have photographs taken . For construction personnel that place is dam hot to work
It's not supposed to have pictures taken but most likely got permission to do so
I hate those iguanas. They know they’re protected and they’re ballsy as fuck. They’ve literally teamed up before to rush me and steal my subway. The big gigantic dinosaur one at the McDonalds by the NEX has attacked me before too
Its very well described speaking of i live there
Hidden Bus do you still live there?
Well i guess so
Are you all off base?
jeremy watson if we were off base we wouldn’t be in cuba
I’m sorry... Are you allowed off base?
Would love to visit there someday -- and stay for a while. OUTSIDE of the prison camp, of course. :-)
I live here.
@@hydro6676 I envy you, bro.
0:47 That's not the school lmao😂
This is the second video I have seen that illustrates fast food as a surprise. Why? They have fast food in combat zones!
I knew there was fast food there since the early 90s. In the 1991 gulf war they Domino's.
@@Mario_N64 yeah. These libtards never served their country so they find it surprising that they have fast food in Cuba. Not only is that ignorant but it is also bigoted, Ethnocentric and narcissistic. I remember as a kid watching the first McDonald’s open in Moscow in the 1980s.
I was there in 2002, 18 months and I ate that McDonald's a lot lol! Navy MA
@@timholloway8821 right. I was MCSF. We worked with MAs all the time. I was Bahrain though. Same battalion as the Cuba Marines. These people think we didn’t have simple simple luxuries like fast food are so out of touch. I swear, I think their impression of us is sitting in a fighting hole behind an M60 smoking lucky strikes.
@@4doorsmorewhores651 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Thanks for your service brother! Yeah some just have no clue!
Thank you guards.
I remember stopping there for a port call while on USCG 620 . The base has literally everything you would ever think of. Internet cafe bars . A huge sports facility. McDonald's . The beach was fun cus the one officer threw a setting down party . Only negative thing was having to walk back drunk from the bars to the ship and the banana rats and big lizards . The rats with freak yah out cus they growl at you
B-b-b-banana rats???? 👀😰 Should I even Google that? 😭
@@NellenelleForSure oh google it. I'm sure they called something else but that what local guys called them. Like a dang ground hog but a rat
@@samuelpancake4084 Oh wow! They look like Capybaras! 😆 Not as ugly or as scary as I thought with a name like banana rat but umm, I'm still definitely not keen on making their acquaintance. Haha. But given their size now I understand your remark about them growling at ppl.
I'm biased towards them simply because I had to do a book report on them when I was in 3rd grade and no one in the class had ever heard of them before, including me, so it was the only book report everyone actually paid attention to and I got a great grade on it. #nostaliga
But these Banana Rats are called Hutia by the Cubans, I'm sure they're cousins of capybara.
McDonald's "Liberate your Day" is the most depressing thing I ever heard. The US, a corporate dystopia, occuping a part of Cuba.
i knew it soldiers eat at mcdonals :) . lol
and i bet there is another mcdonals in area 51 , and they give extra cheese burgers to Aliens and they even have a parking lots for UFOs. lol
And they can still run circles around you while loaded with gear. Lol
Well I bet the inmates just love listening to that!!! 🤣🤣🤣
They torture them with music actually including that Babylon song
its like north korean work camp
Is it just me or does occasionally referencing this bring a degree of comic relief?
I'll be there soon.
Oh YEAH! Well in 1981 it wasn't "small town USA" it was "Hell Hole USA". One week on the fenceline, one off. Everyone counted the days until you left. My Mom sent me a Big Mac through the mail and I ATE IT! :-)
Yeah, I knew someone who was stationed there for 6 months during the 80s, and he hated it. A shame. I don't think they started really making the base more fun and hospitable until the 90s -- ironically, after the end of the Cold War.
Were you more or less alright afterwards?
@@juno6602 Thanks to styrofoam, coldpacks and dry ice, I made it. :-)
I’ll bet you can’t get trim out there.
Im moving there and I really don't want to
Megan Smith how is it?
Trust me. It's not bad at all. Depends what housing area you go to. Some are better than others.
Hmmmm 🤣
How you doing now
Let us hope it is not as a prisoner, that would be bad?!
I heard water boarding is pretty popular
i didnt see that on the menu
man,, you ask a soldier to tell you how its guantamo bay... lol.. he just repeat what his superior officer tells him to say... lol ...
Yeah. It's called security.
Its like the South Korean side of the DMZ. May Cuba be free on day😞💔🇨🇺
I live there at Caribbean Circle
Wow
It's alot nicer than Cuba's military base in USA...
18 months on that base, ugh!!
Great winter weather. A bit hot in summer. Everyone knows everyone's business. No thanks.
It needs a hotel and some tourism
It has two hotels and some “tourism”
Castro once worked at the Mc Donalds.
Aren’t those prisoners being detained without formal charges? What’s up with that?
Dannie Creek
another Puerto Rico
Franco Alley
No patches while being a 1st class. Unsat. Counseling chit.
They should give McDonald’s to prisoners so they will start loving America lol
Or, they could release the prisoners, give the land back to Cuba and set up a new prison (legal) on U.S. soil. That might encourage Cuba to close down all of the prisons that they have set up in the U.S.A. Oh, wait...
@@gwarlow I didn’t ask you to start a political debate over a joke

Rethink what you're saying.
You're telling the world's biggest superpower to literally give a strategic naval base to communist Cuba.

Supuestamente debería entregar en el 2000 pero los yanquin no lo respetaron eso
Mierda. Esa no verdad.
As in PUERTO RICO You are NOT WANTED in GUANTANAMO. Tanky GO HOME !!!
Too bad, commie!
Tough guy talk. Just try to take it from us. We don't give a shit if we are not wanted.
Wonderful to know that the Obamas are “enjoying” a lovely, long term stay at Cuba’s best beach!
And you, sir, are an idi○t if you believe that.
How to waste millions of Dollar: Guantanamo Bay
No waste at all, are you worried Salman?
Guantanimo Bay is a foothold in Cuba for the U.S. World politics can change overnight, so if the need ever arises for the U.S. to invade Cuba, GTMO is our staging area.
Everyone thinks that just because there is a story being told about a place...that they have to insert their input and experience in that place...who cares?
USA just leave Cuba for good! Long live Fidel Viva La Revolution.
