I lived there for 4 1/2 years in Kittery Beach housing. The best years of childhood and high school. Perfect weather and quite an unusual living circumstance! It's awesome to see Mr. Romero in this documentary- went to school with his kids!

I was stationed at the Marine Barracks September-December 1964 on temporary guard duty from H&S 3/8 81mm mortar platoon, Camp Lejuene, NC. I still remenber the guy, "Pete", who worked at the snack bar. Loved my 3 month duty at Guantanamo and the interesting time on guard duty on the fenceline. Watched sharks trolling through the mangroves behind the barracks.

In 1969 a beautiful Cuban girl swam into the base and came out of the water totally nude. LOL MY friend found her and gave her his shirt.

Michael, I saw your other post -- but it is short in the start year of your service there. My father was at the base around 1968-69; not sure exactly what months. LT Fletcher, Navy -- but he had trained in Coronado (San Diego) as a Forward Spotter before going to GTMO, and he may have held a Marine Corps rank then. I don't know if he was there for this event -- sounds even more memorable than his being startled by a 4 foot long iguana in the rec area late one night. :)
