- Hello Everyone!
The Remastered version of Alan Wake brought a few changes to the base game. While the texture, facial capture, and new in-game assets are one thing, there are some more relevant new additions. Namely swapping out the QR codes.
Before they were fun easter eggs. Now they link over to visions of Alan Wake writing in the Dark Place. Just like the Hotline calls Jesse found in the Investigation Sector, these ones give an insight into his next story. For over a decade Alan has been trying to find the write story to facilitate his freedom. Let's take a look at these Visions and see if we can pick up on a few clues.

I love the idea that Alan tried and failed to stop writing about Casey. Everything about the Sudden Stop seems like Alan broke from what made sense because he wanted it to be over. It reminds me of his speech that the events of the story have to follow from what came before, or the story dies. The Sudden Stop didn't follow because he was trying to force it, so the story failed to become real, even in Alan's own mind.
The title even suggests as much. It was so sudden how he ripped himself form that world he made.
The Zane retcon was before AWE: in the base Control game there's an interview with Jesse where she quotes Zane, and her therapist says she couldn't find a poet by that name, just a film maker.
It's in the Jesse Therapy: Polaris collectible.
It was made official during the dlc. The therapist bit kind of suggested it. But I take your point. Personally, I think alan was already working his magic then.
Oh man, going back and watching this after playing Alan Wake 2 is a trip.
I'm already seeing how a lot of my thoughts here were very wrong. But I'm so happy to get the real story
Based on the details in the video, I think when Alan talks about the “opposite of birth”, he means coming back to life. I think story three is describing himself being released by the dark place in a way, and while he immediately feels like he is being born again, he quickly realizes that it is more like he is being brought back to life for the first time.

In Control, you find a recording of a therapy session where Jesse recalls a poem by Zane, but the only Thomas Zane the therapist could find was a European film maker. This could be related to the poster change in Alan Wake
I have a lot of differing opinions regarding that bit of the story. I have that placed in the, 'let's wait until we know more' category.
It must be noted that there was a shoebox with books of Zane's poetry in Ordinary. "This House of Dreams" confirms as much.
Though to make the waters even muddier, it's difficult to say whether Zane the poet was known or extant to the world outside of shoeboxes and people that directly knew him as far back as the events of Alan Wake. Alan remarks he's never heard of Zane when he sees the books of his poetry for the first time.
I like the theory on the cauldron Lake being the cradle of the remedy universe, personally it was my theory when I was playing Quantum Break that it was the “Naturally occurring Time Machine “ - that Martin Hatch was talking about. Unfortunately I scrapped that because he said it was in a cave. HOWEVER the EXIT POINT could very well be a cave. 😮
It would make sense. I mention this In the Oldest House video. But Yggradsil is rooted in 3 lakes. One called Hvelgemir. The description of which is very similar to Cauldron Lake. In norse mythos this lake leads into Niflheim, the land of Mist and Fog. It would be fun if the tree/house grew from the dark place. The foundation being the thing that separates the dark place from the rest of the house.
Interesting thing about that; in the mineshafts in chapter 3 of Alan Wake, there’s an offshoot that goes directly to cauldron lake, and it will harm you if you go down that path. Alan, iirc, describes it as a piercing headache or somesuch; so you might be onto something

Realities blend and merge together in the Dark Place, Night Springs and middle-of-nowhere Arizona, the idea and physical manifestation of Mr. S~~~~ch, and so on. Perhaps the ideas of the real people that the Dark Presence has touched _(whether it be the taken, the artists in Cauldon Lake Lodge, or folk like Alice)_ are drawn in to the Dark Place as they are converted to power/potential reality by it, giving Alan _(and presumably Zane)_ access to them.
I don't think Zane's status is to be debated in the new Remedy universe. In Control, there is a recording of Jesse's sessions with her psychiatrist. The psychiatrist says that she didn't find any poets named Thomas Zane, but she did find a filmmaker of that name.
Correct. The point being is that Zane erased his existence from reality so there would be no record of him. Because of how malleable reality is here it fully allows characters entire histories to be altered and it still be canon.
Until we figure out the details of what happened Zane will remain a subject of debate.

I can't believe they teased AW2 in the third vision. It's pretty much the intro to the game.
I think this video was released before we learnt the information I'm about to discuss was revealed, but I have a different theory on who the third vision is talking about.
I suspect it could be Agent Nightingale from the first Alan Wake. From what we know of some information revealed about AW2, Nightingale's "death" is what begins the story and brings Saga and Casey to Bright Falls and it's on his body where his heart should be that the first manuscript page of the new story is found. But it also seems like that's not the end of Nightingale and he somehow plays a rokle later on.
So my theory is this: the end of the first Alan Wake implies that Nightingale has in some way been taken by the Dark Presence. Perhaps it's him who was essentially spat out of Cauldron Lake and runs into the forest to his "fate worse than death" that's whatever becomes of him in AW2 and leads to his "death" and then being fully twisted by the Dark Presence.

I don't remember if you've ever covered the novelization of Alan Wake, its got some cool little details that could be fun though maybe not super relevant to new stuff coming out but I think there are some threads to pull on. Cool video though, I never saw the codes in the remaster since I don't have it but dang these are really cool.
I have mentioned some minor things that made an appearance in the novelization. For the most part it is the same plot other than the grow embellishments. Specifically the backstory of the hitchhiker and some details of Nightingales past
I appreciate the Maplestory music giving me visions of my younger self spamming in the FM for Glove Attack scrolls. Truly remedy-esque production.

Dude that bit about him crawling on the shore naked and confused reminds me of the ending of the AW2 gameplay trailer where Saga finds him and asks him what his name is but he looks all confused.

Gods, how I love the Remedy universe so much. It-& it’s style of storytelling & worldbuilding-has stuck with me since I first played Alan Wake when it first came out. It’s a constant source of inspiration in perspective (of light/dark & of reality) & in my own writing. I found that I took up a bit of Alan’s ‘style’ when I started expanding on my own as I grew. I’m so happy a second Alan Wake is coming-I’m not even too worried about plot bc Remedy is so involved in their own story. They’ll do themselves justice bc of how much they love the little details & this universe.
As for Alan knowing things about Bright Falls, I think it’s bc he is connected directly to the Darkness (of Cauldron Lake) as Barbara Jagger given form-an entity that makes decisions, touching him in close communication, giving info of the town that is its direct domain here. He has archetypes from people he’d seen as you’d said, but he only starts writing-& therefore knowing-their details when ‘Barbara’ touches him. Bright Falls is a lake with info contained within it; at the end he dives in, but he found that the lakes has a connection-a river to a massive ocean: pure potential & force to tap into…but then get lost in, drown in. Idk?
Side note but I like to believe that the third vision IS a reference to Bright Falls the mini series. Maybe the two theories are connected? The darkness could enter the bodies of people. I’d say what if Alan felt Fisher in Bright Falls & tried to use him to get out (hence Fisher writing ‘I am the first to make it through’, implying another to come after), but Alan couldn’t manage it through Fisher in the end (bc Darkness had too much of an inner hold on Fisher already). But the attempt itself might’ve left behind a legacy: an idea for Alan to use.
Then again this might all be moot bc Fisher disappeared before Alan even got to Bright Falls. 😅
Did you played Control?
Didn't think I'd get to see another Alan Wake video, didn't know there was a remastered version either. I recently got my sister to play the Alan Wake games and we are moving onto Control this weekend in preparation for Alan Wake 2. Sadly she doesn't seem capable of any analysis and enjoyed the games for purely for their mechanics, maybe I'll show her these videos and hope for the best.

Do you know the meaning and symbolism to the symbols on the doors in the Oceanview Motel?
I know a few of them yes. The spiral is mentioned in the Dark Place video I believe. Black pyramid is obvious. The other ones are labelled in the game code. One is Control 2, White Pyramid, Doors, and Vanguard. The vanguard door, (2 circles with the dot in the middle), has a link to the Keystone AWE and may tie into the Project Vanguard game that Remedy is working on.

The last time we got news for Alan Wake 2 was ten months ago on the Remedy Entertainment YT channel. Do you think we will get any news or footage this year? Sam Lake said they went quiet because the wanted to wait until they had to show something. I heard AW2 was supposed to release 2023, right?

Damn so these QR codes basically confirmed a bunch of shit about Alan Wake 2 that we now know about with hindsight.
It confirmed the whole thing about Alan being stuck in Noir City in the Dark Place. It also confirmed that an echo of Alex Casey will guide Alan through Noir City, which was confirmed to be a thing in that Play Magazine cover story. You can even see Sam Lake in Max Payne’s OG outfit filming live action footage which is overlayed with some weird spiral thing made up of his face. The biggest thing this does for me though is basically confirm that Alan is clairvoyant, which explains his involvement in Control in a way that makes so much sense and doesn’t cheapen Jesse’s own story at all. I just wonder what that third vision means for the sequel. That one is truly stumping me.
if you’ve ever had to write a story, or an essay, or music, or played a really good d&d campaign w ur friends or any other creative sort of work, you know that feeling when the story starts to become coherent and you don’t feel like you’re creating anymore, but discovering. That’s what i think Alan is doing, and i think his problem is, and always has been, that he’s trying to *create* instead of *discover*.
The thing about Alan is, he’s not a great writer. He’s not even a good writer, he’s just good enough. He’s like Dan Brown, he can craft a plot that’s easy enough for people to follow and write clearly enough for, say, overworked bleary-eyed waitresses in small town diners to relax with his stories.
That’s why he hates meeting his fans, they’re always basic, not-particularly-erudite schmucks like Rose, people who don’t have very good taste, and their enthusiasm reminds him of what he is.
He’s got Brian Griffin energy; he’s read too many books on writing, and has this idea in his head of what a “real” writer looks like, and he hates himself for not being that. For only being good enough.
So he snuffs Casey, decides he’s gonna force himself to Create, probably feeling that Finding, which is how he wrote the AC novels, isn’t the right way, because what comes naturally to him, he can’t see as good enough. And of course he can’t do it. He can’t force himself to create if he’s not Finding. and when Alice has that gorgeous old typewriter in that picturesque cabin, it’s a perfect place for writing, and it just makes him feel that much smaller because he doesn’t believe what he does is really writing.
so he goes off like a dick on his wife, just like he goes off on everyone who loves him or his work, because “good enough” isn’t good enough.
but the dark place isn’t a place for creating. Because the dark place is everything. Every possibility, every path that could ever be walked, every thing and everyone that could ever be found along them. the dark place is the nexus of every road and every story ,every note of every song, every brushstroke of every painting. That’s why it’s dark; you try fitting the text of every single book onto a single page and it’s just soaked to saturation in black ink.
So if Alan is ever to get out of the dark place, he needs to defeat that part of him that hates Alan, that wants to make something from nothing to prove he’s good enough. To make something from [S C R A T C H]
Because he really is good enough. He proved that already, he’s Rose’s favorite author for christ sake. some people go their whole lives and aren’t anyones favorite anything!
Because you start creating with that first choice, you turn the infinite into the finite by deciding if you’re telling a story about the past or future. a boy or a girl. a wedding or a funeral. then choices become limited, and the page doesn’t hold everything anymore. Light can enter the dark. And if Alan can realize he’s good enough, he can be. Good enough to chart the dark place, good enough to find his way home. And then he might become a good writer, but more importantly, he *will* be a good *man*. that would be pretty great.

I think the QR codes were in the original Xbox 360 release. I remember scanning them and being shown videos on my phone. Maybe that's a Mandela Effect? I had forgotten about them until I watched a non-remastered Steam run.
So the QR codes were not in the original release of the game on xbox 360. I still have my copy. They were added in for the digital releases which came shortly after. Easy to conflate the two.

Here after playing Alan Wake 2. So, vision 3 literally was the beginning of AW2. The individual who washed ashore in a birth-not-a-birth with a "fate worse than death" was Robert Nightingale...
this is not related but i have a theory on control more specifically the character and (living?) astronaut suit fra and its that there sentences can be made actually readable by relating the words they say to other words for example
"school bearing boy boy" might mean knowledge bearing man baby.
I always assumed the man in the lake was Hartman after he jumped into it and transformed
Gaming University: I'm having a kind of sensorium tapestry made and wanted to ask what aspects or details should I consider adding? Also, seeing as you have insight into the mental field, I wanted to ask this: back when I was in middle school I believe, me and my class were doing an exercise which involved closing the eyes and in your mind walk down stairs and open a door to an inner place, it's hard to remember, but thought I'd try to get insight.
Honestly free association writing can help. Just get yourself in a mindset and write without thinking. The moment you pause and think ruins the experience. It helps let randon creative thoughts come up. Or keep a dream journal and let some of those images help with your project.

Also dig how everytime you bring up a piece of psychology like in psychonauts, I end up learning something interesting, helpful and new.
Also from the this view of free association psychology makes me think alot of introspection, especially with understanding mental processes, kinda reminds me of CBT, in the sense of how different thoughts and experiences influence how we think and act.

WHY DOES ANYBODY BELIEVE ALICE WAKE IS REAL?
How come no one else is seeing the red flags when it comes to Alice wake?
1. There's no backstory beyond them knowing each other in New York. So what? Chick just randomly shows up at Alan's house and says we are dating? (Red flag, on multiple levels) lol where did they meet? How did they get together?
2. The only thing Alan seems to actually remember about this women is she's afraid of the dark? (Red flag)
3. She literally is the whole reason Alan goes to bright falls in the first place. She seems to have a habit of leading artists to bright falls. (In American nightmare, it sounded like she also lead her friend in the security box to bright falls. And she was a movie producer and screenwriter.)
4. She's psychically the only character of the story that never really manifested inside of the story that Alan was writing. (Red flag) plus she was magically perfectly fine at the end. No altered status or effect. (Double red flag)
5. Oh, she's your girlfriend but you guys never got married? Then how does she already have your last name? (Super red flag)
Alice and Alan are married. Its mentioned multiple times. And the FBC have done interviews with her after the fact. She got haunted by Scratch, set up cameras int he apartment and managed to catch and image of him. You can find it in the Investigation sector.
@@GamingUniversityUoG yeah, I got those documents but that's what leads me to think Alice is something like Mr. Scratches, baraba Jager, or the fra Mauro. She almost seems like an entity, a baba yaga. (A baba yaga takes the skins of it's victims and wears its skin to trick other victims into it's trap of following them to the dark place/underworld so they can escape they're imprisonment or responsibility)
In the Russian culture version of the baba yaga, there are three sisters of the lake. An elderly women, a beautiful middle aged women, and a young women. These women if disturbed will haunt those individuals that harm the Lake or the forest. Leading there victims to a dark place (underworld/death) we know Barbara Jagger and the diner woman were baba yaga's but one was missing, Alice is probably the third sister. But unlike her other sisters, she was actually able to leave the lake by successfully tricking Alan and trading places with him.
@@GamingUniversityUoG there is a document in control that speaks of Alice taking a picture of Alan in the dark place. But after reading it again, I don't think that's really the focus of the document, I think it's more about the fact that they asked Alice to comeback to the FBC to further the investigation of bright falls. Someone else probably noticed something weird about Alice too before the lockdown. (The fact a certain door inside the Oceanview motel reacts to her shows she's not from our reality. The Anderson brothers and ahti bring it up about places of power. Ahti I think brought up how the motel is like a safe link between different thresholds of reality. And the Anderson brothers bring up how certain gods and entity's can pass through these doors to other realities.)
Someone might have made a mistake within the fbc with releasing her. But someone caught the mistake and is now asking for her to come back. Hopefully she's trapped within the lockdown with jesse, but then that does explain why the lockdown still exists at the end of control. There's probably other entities and paranatural criminals running around the halls of the FBC messing with things. (And technically, even though we meet Management and the supervisors, we don't actually know for a fact that they're saying who they say that they are)

One, big fan. Love your videos but doesn't that kind of contradict with some of the things Alan said in the remake and the original? Alan said he uses real people in his story's because the altered items in affect wouldn't use fake characters. That possibly that's why theres a reoccurring a w e and Alan keeps getting more stuck into the dark place. I don't think Alice wake is real. He probably kept writing the story using a character(s) that wasn't real and that's not what you do in the ritualistic aspects of using the typewriter or clicker. (But maybe the item in affect did use fake characters hence why Alex Casey was brought up in control but maybe again that's what Alan means by "intercept" real people can intercept and become apart of the story, but fake characters/or beings cannot incept or become apart of the story. That's maybe why he needs to be clear on what he says and who he adds because he's probably been creating fake characters to his stories which has hindered his concept of reality.)
the characters/real people used have to follow a particular ritual. Which is kind of brought up in control document on rituals. (Thomas zane brings up the same thing. Needing to use real people that they've met before within the story too kind of pass along the curse but also complete the ritualism and find your way back. Almost like using people as a marker or bookmarker to "return" where they once were.
In the flashback of Alan's childhood, he speaks of meeting a filmmaker in the original Alan wake. (Go back and read the control documents on the movie camera, I think Barbara Jagger was the filmmaker. Barbara and Alice are related to the the camera altered item in investigations. But anyway, if child Alan met filmmaker Barbara Jagger then he probably also met Thomas zane when he was a child. Thomas zane probably used Alan Wake as a marker to get his way out of the dark place when he was trapped but now Alan has to do the same thing but he keeps clinging to a entity that's probably not from his reality, Alice wake. (Read up on the baba yaga sisters. Alice wake might be the middle aged sisters of the lake.)

I think Alan wake 2 will have pages from Jessie faden and Jack Joyce leaving future events pages in brightfalls they never made it to save Alan before the events of Alan wake we all know Jack Joyce is the time machine now we know he is the new terror of time and reality because of the end of quantum break sheds light on this fact Jessie and Jack journey won't be realised until control 2 which means control 2 is a journey through time to stop the events of Alan wake but they failed because Serene and Mr knock prevented them from reaching the proper timeline Jessie's going to go missing after she destroys jack serene and Mr knock in control 2 but they will leave future event pages in brightfall for those that can hopefully find Alan and get him out jack serene and Mr knock will die but then Jessie may become the next terror of reality Alan wake 2 will be years after Alan wake but after the events of control 2 basically Alan wake 2 is the present time. control 2 is after Alan wake 2 to begin with but as we journey through time it'll change to before the Alan wake 2 events but Jessie going to get stuck somewhere jack dies serene finally dies mr knock finally dies Alan wake will stay or absorb Jessie's dark energy but he has to stay in the other side so it doesn't destroy reality maybe Jessie does come out the other end but Alan wake sacrifices himself by staying ending Alan wakes story putting a end the the remedy universe both the voice actor of Alan wake and Alan wake himself are getting old now I think that's why Jillian hall is going to be the new Alan wake maybe Alan wake makes it out but his face changes much like Dr Who did when he changed but bring on Alan wake 2 I want to play it then control 2 get out there and purchase Alan wake Remastered so remedy can make these games and finish on a awesome end I love the games remedy made for this remedy universe I own em all and will only now purchase Alan wake remastered because remedy does need some sales dispite the horrible faces in Alan wake remastered we want this Alan wake 2 and control 2 we want both
