The most upsetting thing about this is that they weren’t even offended about the insanely easy questions. If I was older than 10 and someone sincerely asked me how many sides were on a triangle or how much is 3x5, I would lose it.
The running theme of linguists going "What is a word?" and geologists going, "Diamonds are not rocks." is the kind of energy I like seeing around here. 😂😂😂
@Lynx “red” and “blue” technically do mix (as pigments) to make what the general public assumes to be purple, however there are more ways to produce something that could be perceived as purple (which requires extensive knowledge of color theory, painting techniques, etc). Their answer wasn’t wrong by any means as far as general education goes!
I'd like to mention that for the second question the guy asks the first pair, the girl was right (idk their names and I'm too lazy to go back and check). It is true that Diamond is the hardest natural mineral in the world, but it is NOT a stone. The hardest rock in existence is indeed Igneous, specifically Granite.
according to wiki "A stone is a small piece of rock." and "A rock is any naturally occurring solid mass or aggregate of minerals or mineraloid matter." so ,turns out, diamond is in fact a stone
Hi, also an English / Linguistics grad here. Just wanted to pop in & say that this question about the language with the most words is kinda problematic. First of all: Depends on the national dictionary! How many words are recorded? Which dictionary does it better? Do you count compound words? Or literally just morphemes? --> This is also a very eurocentric view, seeing as imperial powers didn't exactly succeed in NOT oppressing the languages of their colonies. So who knows how many words have been lost from one of the 300 or so Aboriginal languages simply bc white people couldn't be bothered to write them down before forcing them to stop speaking their language. This also does not account for other writing systems than the European.
This question is so weird to me, like portuguese is my first language , and I coul say I'm kind of fluent in English. But they only consider words found in dictionaries. So verb tenses aren't words??
Yeah, I was confused too. I'm German and in German you can basically add different words together to form a new word. For example: Steckdosenanschlussfacharbeitergehalt This word doesn't really make sense because I just put it together so don't try to translate it😂
Hi, also a Linguistics/English graduate here and I just came to say you are completely right. I played along for this video and I also guessed German like one of the comments below, because I've also studied German, and just out of pure logic over how they have really precise words for some things and how you can just make compound words as the comment below said it made sense. But yeah, you're completely right, it is a problematic and generally unfair question to be asking at all. "What is a word?" is a question linguists have not been able to answer completely for a very long time, so it is definitely unfair and confusing to be asking, "What language has the most words?" when it's not a unit that's been completely defined and is a subject being debated on by linguists all over the world. I'm glad someone pointed it out.
This made me concerned for the American youth. Obviously not all young Americans are dumb, but these people sure are. Like the girl was thick as champ. But I’m sure she’s lovely ahaha.
It’s because most of the people in this video dropped out of high school or didn’t finish due to fame, they don’t care about knowledge when they have money.
