that was literally me though. Covid started during my exchange semester in Canada so I couldn’t even do anything😭 I paid quite a bunch just to stay inside for months😀
The way Jack speaks is so intelligent without making others feel condescending.
We all stan Jack Edwards!
Making other people feel condescending would mean they would feel superior, the opposite of the point you're making. Yes, I understand the irony of this comment.

The bar is terribly low
you talked about your relationship and your ex girlfriend in such a mature and kind way. wishing you two the best, honestly, I hope you're both happy. and enjoy Paris, it's a really beautiful city! also can't wait to read your book in the future :D
I started reading after a 4 year slump because of you I finished 3 books in 2 weeks!!🥰
Amazing progress!!
Great job !
May I ask which ones? :) (looking for inspiration)

OMG i wanna have an ex to describe in such warm and sweet words our relationship. Thank you for sharing!
As someone who is neurodivergent, you have my dream job. It sounds absolutely fantastic just consuming random facts the whole day

I was thinking the same thing. I guess I'll look into jobs in publishing.

I ran into you in Paris & didn’t want to bother you while you were having dinner !
And now i regret not saying hi ahaha
Spoiler Alert: Jack may or may not be writing a book.
I will read any novel Jack writes, purely for the fact that his brain came up with the genius "Pfizer Chiefs"
Seriously. I had to pause the video to tell 3 covid puns from here to someone

Jack, your words "I will always look back at that relationship as a really happy special thing" breaks a part of my heart.
Find you a man who talks about his ex as positive & civil as Jack, such a green flag! Congrats on embarking a new journey! Your vibrant energy is inspiring 😊

Since it’s a pandemic, I’m assuming you’re mostly thinking of Living in different places in Europe, in which case I highly recommend Lisbon! As someone who has traveled a lot, it is definitely my favorite city in Europe. It is so incredibly beautiful, safe, so much history and different people, so much life and the most wonderful people, AND there is SO MUCH TO DO. Easily the most underrated city in Europe. I would maybe recommend it more towards spring because the areas around Lisbon in Portugal are just beautiful empty sand beaches and mountains and all which is probably nicer with warmer weather
As a Portuguese woman living in London, you just made me miss my city so damn much! 😭❤
@@aportugueseknitter2338 Well We can go together, such an amazing place. I want to go back and see more of Portugal as well. I’M considering moving there, but I don’t have a job Where I can work from a distance😩
I agree, but I live in Lisbon so I'm biased 🤭
Just please make sure you move to Lisbon in a somewhat (I understand that it's hard) sustainable way. Rent is crazy and super not accessible to people here and it's very much (but not only) because of foreigners renting airbnbs and temporary rental places at huge prices.
If you're staying here for tourism please consider one of the amazing hostels/hotels we have in the city 🥰
ahh may I suggest Porto also? maybe I'm biased (because it's my home city) but it's a really beautiful place too
@@jessmoony Porto é o melhor, não há comparação com Lisboa 😂
When the question about your favorite YT channel came I thought you'd say Jack in the Books, idk... he just seems like someone with the same vibe as you ... somehow😂
wow i really missed a trick here
Totally missed the q&a but in case you see this I'd love to know more about your job (no private details ofc). I'd love to do research for a living but as a history student I'm kind of lost when it comes to the publishing industry and have no idea where to start and what skills I need, what would make me stand out, what the day to day is like etc.
Love your Paris content so far and I appreciate how mindful and respectful you are of your private life online.
If you haven't seen, he's done a video called 'day in the life of a book research assistant'. I would be interested in more videos on how to get into that kind of job as well though!
@@redwineandagingerale thanks so much!! omw to watch that video :)
"I'm never really truly alone because I always have you guys"😭😭😭😭😭 I love you Jack.
I was actually quite concerned when I saw your last video (about adulting) and wanted to reach out but didn't know what to say but I'm glad you seem to be doing better. You do always have us and I personally support everything you need to do to feel better (even if it means less content 😭) but just remember that you truly are never alone. Reach out to people you love when you're feeling under the weather people who have known you since you were a kid and have that kind of unconditional undying love for you no matter how long you stay apart (there's usually one or two people in a lifetime like that but you're lucky if you do have them!). Stay well Jack❤️ (or try your best staying well!)
PS: sometimes that person is your mum and that's okay!
How do you meet people and make friends in a new place? That’s the always the hardest part of moving somewhere new for me
i think the best way is probably attending local events(get brochures at the tourist info centre!), becoming a regular at a certain place(a cafe, pub etc) or going to places where you have a great chance of meeting lots of people(again, a cafe for example)!
and don't hesitate to talk to people, cause chances are they feel as awkward/scared/shy as you, as well! you can go from having a wide circle of acquaintances to having a smaller circle of friends
just give yourself some time to adjust, be patient, and everything will fall into place eventually :)
edit: advice from an introvert who tries to be more extroverted from time to time in order to survive hahah😙
I just tried staying in a hostel for a few days. The amount of people you meet there is insane!

I’m SO happy you watched Pose!!! It’s fucking amazing, and the cast is honestly *chef’s kiss*.
I’m also an Emma Chamberlain fan, have been since the days she still made videos at her parent’s house, so seeing the way she and her content have evolved over the years kinda warms my heart. That girl would be one talented filmmaker.
P.s. we love the beard and mustache
I’m excited. This channel is a gift that keeps on giving.
Couldn't agree more
This is literally what happened to my girlfriend and I.. uni ended, the pandemic happened and the world just went to shit, and so did our mental health 😂 now that we are no longer together, we are still best friends and both in the happiest place ever, and our bond has actually become even more special!

‘All Quiet on the Job Front’ by Jack Edwards. When are we getting this book? 😂
Jack have you ever read any Maupassant? His short stories are really good, sometimes quite witty little vignettes of French people and French life, specifically based in the region of Normandy. I feel like you'd love his style!
I personally really love Le Horla!
@@lindsaystruijk1266 I just finished « Contes de la Bécasse » which had some really interesting little tales! I'll add Le Horla to my list!

If you're interested in doing a masters outside the UK, you should absolutely look at the Netherlands, the masters degrees are much, much cheaper and cities like Amsterdam and Utrecht (basically a uni town) have big international communities. I studied in Amsterdam for one year and it was, no joke, one of the highlights of my life!
Can you impart more details?
Do people speak English there?
@@whateverbabe many of the masters programmes are offered in English, yes. This stuff is all extremely google-able, if you're interested then have a look online!
Even after brexit? The fees are ridiculously high now.
@@Barnaldomort brexit does not affect prices in the Netherlands, why would it?
I think the thing with books for me is that it encompasses so many different subjects, you can read books on history, politics, philosophy - absolutely anything and any culture. Im nowhere near a lit student, but i love reading and i think thats why books are so amazing.
Welcome to France 💜 I hope you enjoy Paris and get to visit the rest of the country too. :) Sincerely, a french follower. 🇨🇵
I have been kinda in a slump mentally lately, with uni stuff and my insecurities towards my skills but at some point during your video i just had a moment of motivation burst from just listening to you and i’m gonna try to overcome it, thank you Jack!! i’ll be waiting for more vlogs!!
Just found this channel and been bingewatching the whole day, making notes on books I missed and have to read. Love it. Thank you. Stay sane.

oh dam, it will only premiere at 3am where i live. cant be the first few to watch it but i would watch this after my morning reading the next day :)
;))And it will premiere at 2am in my country.
It'll premier at 12:30 am where I live:)
In response to your mouse-in-pocket story, I'd like to share one of my own. Bats lived inside the walls of my old apartment building. Sometimes we'd find a live one that would chase us around the living room or sleep in our laundry. Sometimes we'd find a dead one that our cats had discovered first. And once I woke up to bat noises in the middle of the night. I looked all around the apartment, but couldn't find the source of the chirping, so I assumed it was outside the window and returned to bed. Well, turns out it was UNDER MY PILLOW. I almost died.
When I was in med school I had to stay at a vacation home to make it to the hospital in time. I shared the house with 5-6 other students at a time, it was a foresty area, and unfortunately we also had mice. Once when I was just about to go to sleep, my roommate opened her backpack and a mouse JUMPED out and started running around the room. I'm not usually scared of mice, but I don't think I've ever screamed quite as hard as I did then lol.

As far as writing goes & not forcing it-fully support not forcing it. It’s taken me 10 years to write my book & now that it feels done it’s daunting to think ok, this is every thought and emotion I could put into words…let me be crazy and unprotective of myself and put it out into the world 🤨🤷🏾♀️😑

The mouse in Adum's pocket triggered my own horrible, horrible mouse memory:
I worked at a summer camp near Lake Tahoe in California one year, and for the last week and a half my cabin had a hole in the wall and every time we came in from outside we would see a mouse scamper out of someone's suitcase/bag into the hole. She would even run into our bags at night (how did I know it was a she? Oh, just you wait....)
Anyways, I got ahold of some duct tape and I duct taped shut the hole in the wall. The rest of the week, we would hear the mouse frantically scratching at the duct tape trying to get into our cabin but to no avail, and we were triumphant! ....until....
I got home a few days later, and started unpacking my suitcases including a bag with my extra pair of soccer cleats in it. I was irritated because it looked like one of my camper's had taken the newspaper I used to keep the insides dry and totally shredded it in one of the cleats. I turned the cleat over to dump out the shredded paper and 3-4 pink lumps the size of my thumb fell out and I SCREAMED in horror as I realized they were desiccated/mummified NEWBORN MICE.
Turns out the mouse in our cabin made a nest and gave birth INSIDE MY SHOE
honestly I have no interest in reading but I really like your videos, I find them so entertaining
also the brittish accent helps me prepare for CAE listening 💀

People really do need to go out there and experience new stuff, this pandemic's been hard for everyone but maybe things are getting better. Thank you for making videos like this from time to time, book ones especially, too. Someone in the comments mentioned how you've re-sparked their joy for reading books again and you glow when you talk about that so I've also experienced that. :)

Jack be super careful about working in the 'UK online' and living in France!
You can have your visa revoked without the correct visa to work in France even remote work in the UK, especially now post brexit and that you're actively talking about it all online!
You need to put in a French tax return etc. Its a complex process and I've had to go through it myself :)
Love listenning to you talking about books and seeing you so passionate about it ! These are some of my favorite French novels (just in case and if you haven't already read them), I'll put the titles in French: La Dame aux Camélias by Alexandre Dumas (son), Le Guetto Intérieur by Santiago Amigorena and Claire de Femme by Romain Gary. La Dame aux Camélias is the book that made fall in love with literature. I am happy you are having a good time in Paris, it gets beautiful during Christmas time !
Why am I crying about the beautiful way you talked about your ex-girlfriend? So respectful and the way everyone deserves to be treated.
I always liked watching his videos from the start and I do really enjoy his content but the main reason for that must me that he seems to have such a pure heart …it’s really refreshing
Right?!
