Hey Jack , I'm Jefini and I just recently got into reading ..can you please suggest some books to BEGIN with .. I'm currently reading lord of the rings trilogy ..what are your thoughts about that?
Can you also talk about After by Anna Todd .. personally I haven't read it and I'm not going to it's about Harry yes Harry styles And it portrays him in a really bad way(it was a fanfic on Wattpad originally)

You people should stop shaming wattpad (and AO3), it's literature that gets lots of young people into reading and let new writers create and experiment. Yeah, there are some that aren't great, but there are some that are and there are some that are becoming (either great reader or writers). It isn't cool to shame what's mostly just some young kids leaning their way into literature.
idk why but seeing people read in public always feels so nice
Ikr! 😭💘
It’s because we live in a world where books have become rather unpopular and their readers have become uncool. When you see someone reading a book under these conditions, it’s almost like witnessing a random act of humanity but in much, much simpler terms. It’s almost the same feeling as when you find out that someone else likes the same unpopular tv show as you do. You don’t even have to talk about it, you just take an indescribable amount of comfort from the fact that you’re not the only one who watches it. In the same way, you take an indescribable amount of comfort as a reader from the fact that you’re not the only one.
@@ceemam1039 yes! you put it into much better words 👏❤️
When I see someone read I always try to get the title without the person noticing that I'm looking at him/her. Feels weird sometimes.
I think I should copy this challenge.
I always get self conscious when I read in public, sometimes I feel like I’m begging for attention (honestly I just bring books if I really like em and need to know what happens next), but this comment made me feel much more confident to do that!

Someone on my train a week ago was reading The song of Achilles and I almost stopped to tell her how great that book was but I didn't, and now I regret that because I could've had a new best friend
Why else would people read physical books in public (instead of ebooks or even audio books) if it's not as a secret beacon to find their people???

I'd love to see more of this like an ongoing series... because I'm a nosy twat, I've always wondered what people are reading on public transport
Yesss how amazing would be if this was a regular theme!!!
Yeah! I wouldn't mind one of these every couple of months. Not to say people are always out reading what's new on the shelves, but it would sort of feel like a seasonal release recommendations roundup (if that makes sense)
Yes I'd love a series

At this point I need Jack to make a video titled: I Read Books I Just Felt Like Reading
Same 🥲😅😂
This would be a very good series - like when you travel , see what people are reading in the plane, or while lounging in hotel pools or by the beach!
Writing fan fiction about living people is odd already, but doing that AND selling it is even weirder.
What a amazing idea. Jack, constantly raising the bar and doing it flawlessly
Absolutely!

"Speaking to someone on the London Underground is actually illegal." Whoops. I definitely did that when I went to London. The Londoners brushed my American ass off fairly quickly, but surprise surprise, a Parisian struck up a conversation with me and gave me tips on where to go for the few hours I was there. I said, "Man, from all the rumors I've heard about Parisians, you are much more friendly than Americans make you out to be!" He said, "Yes, but we like it that way, so that is our little secret." Then winked and got off the train.

We need a whole new video only with “ordinary people finding joy and pleasure in ordinary things” books.
YES
YES PLEASE
exactly!!
yes!
does anyone have any recommendations for these types of books please?
Jack's description of "small pleasures' reminded me of an old friend in secondary school. We had three writing exams throughout the term in which we were given a theme and told to construct a short story around it in one and a half hours. Now said friend of mine was an amazing writer and always got so carried away. She built all these intricate stories and would only snap out of it when we had about three minutes till the end. So, in the middle of a potentially wonderful story, she always just wrote, "And all of a sudden, a great big earthquake shook the land and claimed all of their lives." Brilliant.
I wonder if the strangers will see this and realise Jack Edwards has judged your entire book taste like 👁👄👁

New challenge: Ask the people how they like the book and then compare that to how you like it (it's not as socially awkward if you just get off at the next stop)
Yesss
That would be nice but I can guarantee that the people on the tube reading their book and minding their business will not want you to ask how they're enjoying it... There are absolutely times and places to make friends with strangers in London but this ain't it chief x
Nope. Sorry, but I live in London and you do not talk to people on the tube here. Also it would just be anecdotal for the video as I doubt the people there would enjoy being filmed on the tube anyway.
A slightly better idea would be to apporoach someone reading on a park bench, for example.
@@ginat.8064 Except someone asked me what I was reading on a train back from London so some people do talk although I always avoid the tube I struggle with it.
I'm from Asia and trying to spark an actual conversation to strangers here just ain't the vibe.
Waterstones have books of the month, where they recommend four books: fiction, non-fiction, thriller and a children’s book. A good video could be reading their recommendations that month and seeing if Waterstones have good taste
the edited scenes in the middle, with footage of places around london are SO beautiful they're making me want to cry
I couldn't agree more! It made me very nostalgic.
As someone who was born and lived in London for the past 18 years, and now just moved houses up north this year, it really did make me feel nostalgic and emotional 😭
About the Agnes vs Anne thing, apparently 'gn' was sometimes read as 'n' like in french and italian, so even when her father spelled it Agnes, it might not necessarily have been pronounced like we do it today, it might still have been Anne(s)

This is a lovely concept ... I hope you do it again, maybe make it a series or something.
