    One of the huge benefits of using a crop sensor system is the selection of small affordable lenses.
    Over the past few months I’ve seen a few reviews on lenses from Pergear on RUclips. I heard a lot of good things in those reviews so I bought a couple of Pergear lenses to try out myself.
    I forgot to mention in my video review of this lens that it’s easier for me to focus this lens when focus peaking is turned off. I instead use the zoom/punch in feature to get a closer look at what I’m trying to focus on in order to lock it in. When I first started using it, relying on the focus peaking I missed focus more than I normally do.
    Another point I forgot to mention in the video is that it has 10 aperture blades and not 12 as you’ll see mentioned on some sites.
    You can find this lens for about $60 on Ebay - bit.ly/Pergear...

    or about $70 on Amazon amzn.to/2Wymexk

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts Craig, helpful insights 👍🏾 I'm looking at grabbing this lens to practise on zone focusing for street. Figured a cheap purchase would be better than spending $$$$$ for my use case. Can you comment if the focus markings are accurate and usable? Other reviews have mentioned not to use or say little about it. Looking to hopefully improve in shooting without the evf. Also, are the focus markings engraved or painted on? Thanks again, and looking forward to seeing more content from you! 👏🏾

      Hey Jefferson, the focus marking work pretty well. I think if you're going to do some zone focusing, stopped down a bit, you'll be fine. Shooting anything wide open you'll probably want to use the screen or EVF to verify focus. The markings on the lens are painted on unfortunately but for the price that's totally acceptable IMO. I've enjoyed using these lenses, most recently the Pergear 35mm f/1.2. Let me know how it all works out for you. Thank you so much for watching and for your comment!

    Great real world review. I used to be a Fuji shooter before I went totally analogue, and looking at the 25mm samples, just don’t bother with the 27mm. You get a good quality image and you can zone focus.

      Great point. Thank you for the kind words and thank you for watching! Btw, since you’re an analogue shooter, what’s your main film camera of choice?

      Craig Bergonzoni Hi Craig, I shoot an Olympus OM-1 as my goto camera. It has about the same form factor as the XT-1, being demure and discreet. As to film, Fomapan and Ilford as first choice, then Kodak a close second.

      @CraigBergonzoni  4 года назад +1

      That's awesome. The OM-1 is a great camera. I've thought about picking one up soon. I've never shot with Fomapan but Ilford is my main B&W at the moment.

      Craig Bergonzoni Foma is definitely worth a try, can buy it as arista brand from freestyle photo for cheaper, it’s the same film bought in bulk. 200 is my favorite especially in medium and large format.

      Craig Bergonzoni just go for it. The more manual it is, the more you have to learn and remember. It forces you to think before you shoot.

    Hi Craig, the link to your blog post is broken. The article is still up, but the link doesn't take you there.
    Anyway, on the lens, I think compact manual primes are great... Good to have options. Fills a good niche.

    Hello Craig. Thank you for the video. I got my Pergear 25mm today. It's in manual mode with manual focus but I still can't take any pictures. Any suggestions? I'm shooting with X-T30

    • @CraigBergonzoni
      @CraigBergonzoni  3 года назад +2

      You might need to turn on the "Shoot Without Lens" ON in the menus. It's in the Setup Menu section (the little wrench icon.) The last one at the bottom I think. In there it should have that option. Let me know if you find it. This is needed because the lens doesn't have any electrical contacts talking to the camera so the camera doesn't think there's a lens attached. Give it a shot and let me know if it works out.

    • @LEGOTROLL1
      @LEGOTROLL1 3 года назад

      @@TrollBobic i am using an X-E2 but certain things you should do. 1- set focus to M manual not on S or C. 2- camera menu 3, Shoot without lens - to on. 3- Mount adapter setting - this is where you set to 25mm. camera menu4 - you can set MF ASSIST - which ever is easier for you. hope this helps.
