Hey guys, just a quick note to say thanks for all your concern; this video was shot a week before its release and everyone at Red35 is following the guidelines to stay home and isolate. This IS our last video shot together outdoors for a while, but keep a watch out for some non-people-gathering content coming your way whilst we ride this thing out. Stay home if you can, take care if you can’t, and if you haven’t done so in a while, now might be a good time to give your camera gear a good clean! Thank you for your ongoing support, we’ll try our best to keep you entertained and informed under these extraordinary circumstances.
Hello Jimmy, thanks for the information. I am sure and hope that we will all get through this well. I look forward to your next videos. Take care of yourselves
Interesting looking image quality. There was a nice character in the images. Stay safe!
Peter Forsgård indeed, pretty cool little thing. Cheap, just got to try it
Oh my goodness, I got a mention ha ha. So its not a waste of my time trying to educate people about lens design, some listen even if most call me an idiot. People forget that for the whole Victorian and 20thC lenses had simple design and gave stunning images; many of which are hard to replicate now (Hasselblad and Rolleiflex Zeiss Planars, Sonnars, Tessars and Tele-Tessars and Leica Summicrons come to mind). I still have photographs I took when i was 6 in the 1950s with my little Kodak Brownie and that simple fixed focus lens gave stunning images. The fact is, complex lens designs were impossible last century because of light scattering amongst the elements before the development of coatings. This problem hasn't gone away and modern designs get around this by multicoating the internal elements. This only works to a degree as coatings are wavelength specific hence, the ghastly rainbow coloured flare from modern fast lenses. This is why fast lenses work best for night photography, they are optimised for the narrow wavelengths of artificial lighting such as you find in the street or studio. Modern lenses are at a distinct disadvantage under white light. However they are designed for a specific purpose; to be used wide open in commercial photography, they are poor at general photography. So now we find the new optical workshops in Asia (wearing face masks, note in this film only the silly British didn't wear them, St James's Park was suddenly Hongkong) that they are taking these classic designs and making them with modern optical glass and modern coatings and the best of them are truly amazing. Perhaps the best of them I have tried is the Sony Zeiss 35mm f2.8 Sonnar which brings the classic lens I used on my 1980s Rollei 35s bang up to date. Very few elements, modern glass, classic design and modern coatings. This lens gives the same performance on full frame that my stunning Olympus 17mm f1.8 does on MFT which I suspect is a similar design. (See what you think, this video shows you why classic designs cant be beat on modern compact systems ruclips.net/video/wxFlcTcq3sA/видео.html ). I was interested to see that my Lumix GX9 with grip and lens was the same size and weight as my Sony A7 with lens, no wonder CanNikon cant give their huge heavy equipment away. I can see the Chinese optical industry becoming more mainstream and higher quality in the future as they are making equipment people want to buy and use rather than huge heavy white elephants; good luck to them I say. Have fun and stay safe ;-)
Yes you did Vici!! This little guy is the perfect example to show a simple lens can be as good if not better than more complicated modern offerings! Hope you are well and stay healthy. I won't be able to go out so will be filming from home, and my personal channel will start soon :)
One of your better videos for a while... back to what you do best. Thanks for your time and effort
Generally, a lens is sharp in the center. This lens is perfect for M4/3 because the sensor is "looking" at the middle of the glass. I saw the review of the same lens but for APS-C mounts, they all complained about soft corners. 🙂 This thing looks small on your E-M1. This should pair well with the E-M10 😛
Sally is a great model and I am glad you are reviewing inexpensive gear. Kudos.
I agree man I mostly care about the images not the numbers!
Thank you for this great video!! Could you review some 7 Artisans lenses (they also have a very cheap 25mm version), I think that lots of people would enjoy this
Hello from Indiana, USA! I'm glad to see non-Olympus brands for MFT, although I will probably stick with Olympus, and used Olympus MFT. I had expected to see names like Sigma, Tamron or Tokina. Instead you show brands where my first questions are: Who? What? Never heard of them! Did they come in a cereal box? But, it is still good for me to widen my horizons. (I'll probably stay with Olympus, new or used.) In spite of the covid-19, I do try to get out in the fresh air and take a few photos.
I bought this lens on Saori's recommendation of "cheap, cheap." Saori's affable reactions to your techno-geek speak is so endearing. You're a great team! Oh, and the outtakes were a fun bonus.
nice idea Paul!
What a great little lens for the money.Stay safe Jimmy
I'm looking at this lens for my Fujifilm gear. I ordered the TTArtisans 50 1.2 and 35 1.4 and can't wait to use them. Thanks Jimmy...
Well done for putting something out despite the virus... with so many people not going outside... the world needs as much good quality content as possible... thank you... take care and stay safe...
Thanks for the support mate. This will be our last outdoor video for a while unfortunately. With potential lockdown and harder to get food and drinks when we are out, of course all the risk with the virus, it would be too difficult to do it anyway.
@@Red35Photography Stay safe... I live in South Korea with my family... we have been pretty much not leaving the house for 4 weeks... going a little stir crazy... hopefully it won't last too much longer... take care...
I bet you're getting tired of having to explain that your made the video a week ago, before people started staying indoors (in the UK).
Great video - I was considering the Meike and Neewer 25mm f/1.8 lenses, and even the rarer 7artisans one. I'd never heard of this brand before, but I suppose you can't go wrong with any of them. Manual focusing is the only "drawback", but with all the brilliant manual focusing aids Olympus give us, it could hardly be easier. Also, it's not too long a focal length to set it to hyperfocal and just shoot one handed.
BTW, I only discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago, but I'm really going to miss your outdoor vids :(
You (and Saori and Zoha) are doing a great job and a service to any MFT enthusiasts - keep it up!
Thanks Jimmy for a great review! Being on a budget this looks like a great value and definitely will make its way into my bag soon!
Thanks Caitlin! It’s a great little lens indeed that produces pretty good results! Hope you are well.
I already have the Olympus 25mm 1.8 but if I didn't I would be so tempted to get this lens for my Pen F. It looks small and fun.
Looks like a great little lens, I'll keep an eye out for it down here in New Zealand.
On another note you might want to pin a message up top here to let everyone know that this was filmed a week ago pre-lockdown for all those people that haven't read the multiple comments you've made stating this, that you've made all down the comments list. Saves you getting wrist strain from retyping this over and over again. Take care :)
Thanks for the tip!
Ok, Jimmy, please, grace the Internet, you and your beautiful models, for the longest time to come. Stay the f* inside, please. Situation in Italy is out of hand, it's already critical in France. As much as I appreciate the content you produce, I hope it last a long time. I've been ill myself with a mild form of the virus, IT IS NOT FUNNY AT ALL. Be safe. Even young people can die.
How to use focus peaking on manual lens, my mk2 doesn't
Thanks mate. We know. This is our last 'outdoor' video as we pre-recorded this a week ago. We haven't been out since. Stay tuned to my personal channel as well. Support is needed for all creatives and self-employed.
@@vinceherried497 I will make a video on that :)
@@Red35Photography : good. Stay safe !
this lens is sharper than some main lenses from other systems no offence but sharpness of mft is phenomenal thats what me love it
I love Her accent!
Looks like a great street photography lens. You can manually set up zone focus and go all day. Sowa(sp?) is a great sidekick and model, beautiful and fun.
What I find interesting, besides the quite interesting, old-style look, is the really small size (as you mentioned). The design reminds me of old lenses, the chrome front looks fine. 5 elements in 3 groups was a common design in "old days" to safe money (lens elements were expensive, and the mounting was too ;-)); not quite the quality you would get out of a classic 6 or 7 element design (Double Gauss), but it can work well! I might have a closer look at this lens.
the colour in these photos is lovely.
Thinking of selling your LUTs Jimmy?
For the lockdowns, I just had a crazy idea!!! Do a virtual photo shoot. Get Saori, Charli and Zoha together on Zoom and you can take piccies of them onscreen :D :P Get them to do all the usual poses and such and just change out the background of the piccies in Photoshop :D Might be an idea to try out :D
Not only photographic reviews but also taking into consideration the physical side of holding heavy kit. man of many talents. Great video, when one is self isolating, and have never considered a manual lens. I left that era many years ago when I went Canon EOS and have now probably forgotten. Do I need a split prism focusing screen? You need to show us how to do it manually.
Cheers mate for watching, yes I will make a video on it :) Very easy these days and no, you don't need split prism for focusing.
With magnified view and focus peaking, manual focusing is super easy, but still a pleasure to do because you really feel engaged in the whole shooting process.
On my little Oly E-M10MarkII I use M42 lenses and Pentax K-mount ones (my other camera is a Pentax), and once I get the necessary adapters I'll try out M39/L39 and C-mount lenses too.
So far, my only AF native MFT lens is the Oly 12-50mm kit - the rest are all manual focus :)
Shooting with Saori as your model = cheat mode :)
Looks really nice. Your images are always beautiful.
I’ve purchased this for mft and have only just discovered that on my pen f, if you have it set to monochrome and focus peaking switched on, you have to view the picture in colour first to see the peaking before the photograph is taken. Unless I’m missing something in the menus? Also, the magnify option doesn’t work. Are all Oly cameras like this? I know Fuji cameras aren’t. Possibly Panasonic too, but I no longer have a Panasonic body.
Thank you ,seen a lot of videos of you
There good!
Just switch from omde 5 2 to om10 mark 3,you find him better
Fill in blitz for me important
Surprisingly good image quality for a great price. Stay Healthy!
What is the camera body you’re using here? Thanks! I found this lens! It still is inexpensive!
Great review, what lens were you using shooting this video?
Hi thanks for sharing pergear 25 mm 18 budget lens option. I want to buy this lens but have a question. will this fit Sony a 7 mark ii? Please reply.
Thanks for watching, you can get this lens in Sony E mount. Just a note that this will be a 25mm wide angle lens when you mount it on a full frame :)
For my Olympus camera, I generally use a 45 and 50 MM lens for portrait work, but looking to add a 28 or 35 to my collection. What would your recommendation be for overall value for under $150? (vintage recommendations welcome as well)
Did you have to apply any lens profile correction in lightroom? I'm assuming that at 50mm equivalent it's so bad, just curious though.
Just wanted to give you some feedback. I don't know if it is youtube or not, but the music seems to sound a lot louder than the speaking bits. Probably due to compression somewhere.... makes headphone listening unpleasant.
When the music starts playing, it was sooooo good I cranked up the volume. Pumping sweet tunes into my Sony MDR-1A headphones. Seriously, the music is part of what makes the video work so well. if the audio quality sounds bad, then maybe you need to upgrade your headphones. Just saying.
Feedback to your feedback to my feedback to Red35... lol
I wonder if the 35mm is just as good
I purchased the 7artisan 25mm f1.8 @69 dollars..
How hard would it be for Uncle Oly update their old Zuiko manual lens bodies??
is it the background deformed at 12:18? Pergear or panasonic 25 mm?
Hi Jimmy, I can do ordinosaurs & retro computers
just agree. You are very carefree in your video with Corona. It's not funny.
Agreed. Not funny this was pre-recorded a week ago and we haven't been out since. I had to go out for a my last 'paid' job and god know when my next job will be. Scary time and I will be doing a live video here to talk about it.
Please stay inside. Don’t make the mistake and believe the virus only harm old parole. STAY INSIDE
Cheers Michael, this is what we are doing. This video was pre-recorded a week ago and we had been indoor since.
Red35 Photography perfect :)
£47.99 on ebay at the moment. Lens is also made for other brands.
It does say in the video also for Sony E and Fuji.
Hi Jimmy, maybe you could try this lens sometime? Prettyia C-M4/3 Prime Fixed Lens for Olympus Panasonic Camera 35mm F1.6-F16 £41.08 on Ebay
Love the girl!
Cool lens, where did you get your yellow coat from? 🥳
Cheers mate. The yellow jacket is a Lee Storm Rider
What are the gloves that he’s using?
$96 in Australia...
Sold I getting this lens
Jimmy!! 2 metres!! ALL people are in danger? Not just the old and sick? STOP putting you, her, and the rest of us in danger!!
Ouch
This company has actually the worst online Company shop /e-shop layouts I have ever seen!
50% of the screen is blocked with a so called top menue banner, so you cannot really use the size of your display screen. This reminds me of nokia 9110 communicator with 9,8 kbit (yes I mean less than 10 kilo Bit/s) modem in 1999. A really catastrophic internet experience. That thing was not bale to place the frames of a website correctly. Same here.
The lower banner is also static and the stop icon will open a javascript pop-up window. You cannot see one single item without scrolling. And I am referring to a notebook with a 6k screen.
Try it out - it will drive you crazy.
Stay at home!!!!
We are.
Photographic content ...cool as usual. The whole Covid-19 stuff, being outdoors, especially joking about being young and healthy....awefull, just awefull timing. Stay healthy and stay inside
Stay at home... Please...
Don't worry, we have been. This vid was pre-recorded. I will be doing more home videos/live. Also stay tuned to my personal channel too :)
@@Red35Photography great! Really, no need for any more outside videos...
Excellent photographic content, as always. But you have frivolized with the sanitary measures. People duplicate those behaviors. You are healthy and clean, but you do not know if you are incubating the COVID-19 that infects young, healthy and clean people who also die.
With death one does not frivolize.
Too bad in that regard. Take care.
Do waste your time wearing a surgical mask .
I like this girl so pretty haha is there any social media that I can follow her
You should be at home...We in Italy, Spain and Portugal we are all at home trying to stop the contagious of Covid-19. You gave a bad exemple...STAY HOME...
please...Go Home, NOW!!! IN a HURRY!!!......COME ON!!!! GO!!! GO!!!! We need you healthy. Thanks!
