    Took mine ALOT of cranking before I started showing pressure. But I understand your concern. I liked the video and it gave me some better ideas for mine. Thanks.

    Right on Brother, I'm a vet to 66 fairlane GT, I love how told the truth at the end that all jobs end up working perfectly at the end, myself I'm on 3rd paper gasket install from various jobs such as RMS replace and finding exactly where oil is coming from because you can't tell untill there 5 quarts in the pan and you start it and see if it leaks. Bottom line it was real awesome of you to add the last part to your video it helps people out there. Thanks bro!

      Thanks for watching! I think its important to show the true part of this hobby. So many videos make it look like everything works perfectly the first time out, but often that's just not the case, and it frustrates people to make them think they are the only ones having problems getting things back together...none of us are perfect, and I think some people forget that

    It is a lot easier than removing the engine that's for sure; I am going to be doing my v8 dodge ram sometime soon; I hear a noise coming from the sump, don't know what to think but I bought the bearings and the oil pump. I'll see when I get the sump off.

    Mortske mentioned the Super Scraper and I got one. You're not kidding, they're incredible.
    My tree guy has a 360 in a '98 2500 with a leaking rear seal. I don't know yet if it's 4X4, and I'm wondering if that pan comes out before I tell him I'll do it.

    • @MoonBuiltGarage
      @MoonBuiltGarage  4 месяца назад +1

      Morske is how I found the Super Scraper. That pan I would think should drop out like mine...the only real difference, I would think, would be the transfer case for the 4x4...so maybe the front driveshaft may be an issue now that I think about it, but I couldn't say for sure

    So do you have to jack up the tranny to change the main seal? My 1997 has an oil leak but I can’t tell if it’s the oil pan gasket or rear main? It’s dripping down the open side of the tranny inspection cover and looks like it might be the oil pan gasket but I’m not sure might just have to take it apart and take a good look. Great video by the way

    How did you change the other half of the seal without removing the crankshaft?

    • @MoonBuiltGarage
      @MoonBuiltGarage  7 месяцев назад +1

      You can use a brass punch to start the top half moving around the crankshaft, and once it protrudes enough you can just grab it with a set of needle nose pliers. To install the top half, it should just slide right around the top of the the crankshaft, but you may need the brass punch again to get it last bit around

    do those glasses remain clear and scratch resistant; I'm yet to find a pair of glasses that remain clear and don't cloud.....I often don't wear glasses because they get bad and then you can't see what you are doing...

    I see where a long bolt went through the flexplate, the crankshaft and contacted the cap. Was there a crack in the #5 cap? Did the block get imprinted the same way?

    • @MoonBuiltGarage
      @MoonBuiltGarage  Год назад

      I noticed that...not sure where that mark came from, but there is no crack in the cap. I would think that if that mark were from, say maybe the torque converter bolts, than there would be a long scrape along the cap....but no, there are no other marks, or any cracks

    • @rodneybyrd9516
      @rodneybyrd9516 Год назад

      @@MoonBuiltGarage I think at some point, someone put some manual trans flywheel bolts (much longer) in there and it locked the motor down, so there was no scraping. Then they caught the mistake and put flexplate (shorter) bolts in. Just a theory, but I have seen it done! Hopefully you have the leak repaired, once you get oil pressure. I have used vaseline or something thick like Lucas or STP to fill the pump and get it to prime faster.

    • @MoonBuiltGarage
      @MoonBuiltGarage  Год назад +1

      The manual trans flywheel bolt theory is a possibility since I know this truck was previously a slant6/manual vehicle before someone swapped the V8/Auto into it. I'm not TOO concerned about the pump priming since I didn't tear the pump down or anything, its just sitting empty a little longer than your normal oil change...Once I cut a new gasket for the pump I'll have it back together....but I'm working 12-hour shifts for the next few days, so....it'll happen when it happens

      I did this on my 1978 D-150 last year and replaced the oil pump. I thought the main cap had a crack or hole in it, but found that he's an oiling hole. All I did was loosen the motor mounts, lift the engine a little, and pull the oil pan out easy peasy! I replaced the seal and replaced the oil pan gasket after looking everything over. The only problem I had was I didn't install the front rubber gasket properly, and just bought I new one and no leaks!

  • @carlodonnell146

      looking at your bearings made me take the new ones out of the package to examine them and it seems strange how six pieces have the hole and the groove, two pieces don't have neither; and two other pieces have only the groove....I hope I got the correct ones for my v8 2001 ram @@MoonBuiltGarage
