  • Abandoned Since 1990 this Swedish Cabin is Undergoing a Restoration back to a Livable Home. Slowly as the Owner has Funds I am Turning into a Family Home. In this Episode I Clear an Attic Never Used from when the Cabin was Built in 1950 and Lay New Pine Floors Throughout.
    As with all buildings here in the far north of Sweden the whole building was loaded with sawdust used as insulation against the Arctic winters.
    Thank you.

    Well that was a …..if I had blinked Simon, I’d have missed the whole top floor being done! Fantastic. Believe me NO ONE WORKS THAT PROFESSIONALLY AND PROFICIENTLY as you do with ALL the jobs and projects! By the way, I am still talking about and often think of the last, “A Solo Cabin take down, foundation preparation, lonesome transportation of said cabin bits, and rebuild of said 1937 Swedish Cabin!”😮😮😮 With nothing left over.
    It’s going to look amazing at completion too. Thank you so much. So looking forward to what the next surprise is going to be! Crazy how the snow hasn’t begun. Warmest love to you all and have a wonderful week ahead. Big cuddles and kisses to Kasper. ❤️🇦🇺🇸🇪

    Howdy Simon- another project well done. I like how you got the lumber upstairs. I had to put a 6x12x20’ support beam through a window once and then get it up against the ceiling joists. Your Old Faithful worked great. I wish we could get that quality of tongue and groove pine flooring here. Anymore, I saw it and make it myself for a better quality job. Hope all is well and you and Ms Sarah have a great weekend. God bless

      Hi Paul, I have also done installed a few beams and we know they are hard work and always heavy. No wonder nights are so painful really. My Theory on the poor quality timber available from store comes from fast growing species and the modern sawmills. A knowledgeable man has been replaced by X-Ray and Laser and thus the warps and twists once dried and stacked. The material is also much thinner than before. Good job us men can still produce good quality when required. My thoughts are with you all State side at this very precarious time. Take care my friend and Thank you.

    I'm only 49 and there's no way I could take on as much as you. After just watching you I need to have a little nap. I'm also a bit surprised you didn't use your own milled wood as their carpeting it anyway only saying that as you obviously could have made money from the wood yourself as I bet that tongue and groove cost a far chunk of money. Brilliant job as usual & Thank you Simon for sharing your hard work with us all, I no how much extra work goes into all the filming you do. .

      Thank you, I would normally have used my own timber but the customer gave me specific spec which I cannot mold just now thus the need to purchase said T&G which as you say was very expensive. I appreciate the recognition of production, I sometimes wonder why I di it until I read all these great comments. Have a great weekend.

    Thanks Simon, you have did a fine job, like you i get the satisfaction of making something that is not level, square into a useful place, believe me i know how you feel with broken down parts that remind you of how age has taken away some of the joy, your mind doesn't age as fast as your body. Stay strong buddy.

      Thank you Mark, it i always nice to get above finished floor level most projects become so much easier from there on as you know. Stay away from the mirror and pretend the pain is normal would be the best advice for an aging working man.
      Take care and have some fun.

    Oh my... that attic reminds me of a place I used to work at in the late 90'ies/ early 2000.. we refurbished the whole place, and the floor dividers were insulated with both sawdust and some kind of "wool" made of melted and crushed glass that had been sendt through some kind of sentrifuge. It had bits of glass in it, sharp like freakin' obsidian😱Had to wear welding gloves to handle the s..t, and fresh air supply masks to avoid getting the stuff down into our lungs... man, that was not fun work... The pine floor looks great.. good job there Simon👍 I surely hope your efforts bringing the house back to living conditions are paying of at your end... it's a sh..load of work... anyhoo, take care of your back, get some well deserved rest, and give my best to the family🙂 Cheerio bud!

      I have no idea what nasty kind of insulation that must have been but sound like a nightmare. I am working on this house for the good of the house and the family that will live there I don't make any money profit from it just cover my costs as and when the owner can, otherwise he would not be able to provide a safe place for them. I don't work really it is fun and interesting with the odd bad day but not what I call work. My back is good just now thanks for asking and all is well. Thank you and have a great weekend.

    Watch out for open fires, its illegal. Often theres some strangers calling in to the authoroties😵‍💫

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  18 дней назад +7

      Under Swedish law open fires are permitted outside of any fire ban and under safe conditions. There are many open fires in the north at lakes and rivers, camp grounds and leisure area's. Fires are permitted year round but I always save mine for the beginning of winter or on rainy days. Open fire are an essential part of life here and also part of the heritage, religion and social gatherings. It is a little concerning that you do not know this if I am honest.

      @@arctic-rebel well I do know, its a new law 1 Jan 24. Small branschens and Leahs might work, thats up to the different kommun. Firewood is allowed like campfires and also in kamin and vedpanna. Deffinitly not plank, boards and other so called byggavfall. Look under elda or eldning on your kommuns homepage. You kan also check homepage of Naturvårdsverket. Its a big difference between north and south Sweden, up north people minding their own things like they always have.
      Keep up the good work🤠
