    The entire song is a Mantra . Kind of like a prayer but you repeat over and over to get to a trance state.

    • @joerosenman3480
      @joerosenman3480 28 дней назад +1

      Not a trance state, a meditative state-NOT the same thing. A trance has a person without control, generally to an influence of some sort. Meditation is focused control, by the meditator. A mantra is often used as a focus to help achieve/maintain that state. Where a trance is about losing control, meditation is about refining it.
      Just clarifying. 😉

    George was younger than Lennon and McCartney, joined their band when he was 13, was deported from Germany for being underage and playing in Hamburg’s Reeperbahn bars when he was 17, and was looked at by Lennon and McCartney as their little brother. He grew up, but they were slow in recognizing it. George used this song as a private prayer. He had a studio in his mansion where he recorded ‘All Things Must Pass’, and people were everywhere. Someone heard him play it and talked him into recording it. And it went to number 1.

    Okay, people in the comments…This song is an example of something called ‘syncretism’, the contact and merging or two religions or faiths into a fusion of the two. Most Christians, I hope, are familiar with the person of Jesus Christ, his mission and what he represents, and his title of “My Lord”. The other figure is Krishna, a deity in Hinduism who represents love, compassion, protection, kindness. You get the idea. Who also happens to share the title of “My Lord”. George is intentionally drawing the two figures together by their similarities. Both were sent to spread the ideas of love, compassion, kindness, as divine instruction to mankind. They both were considered to be an Earthly manifestations of a tripartite greater whole/higher power. Both performed acts that would be described as miraculous. And whose followers still exist and move in the world today. Two faces of the same idea, and ultimately same source. And by extension, the division set upon the world by those followers is in the end is pointless.

  • @mamared56
    @mamared56 29 дней назад +1

    George followed Eastern spirituality. The background vocals change from "Alleluia" to "Hare Krishna" of whom George was a devotee. Near the end of the song, the background singers chant the Guru Mantra. Contrary to what many believe, Hindus and other eastern spiritual paths believe there is only one God, however there are what seems a gazillion representations of the one true god. Similarity, Christians honor three aspects of God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. George was a devotee of Krishna, but he honored other spiritual masters including Jesus. Another great song by George Harrison is "Awaiting on You All". He mentions Jesus in that one.

They were both Christs sent to help mankind, as God has always sent & always will according to oldest unmodified scripture The Vedas. Jesus said, "Drink from my mouth & become as (the) I Am" (Gospel of Thomas/Nag Hammadi Library). The gospel half of the song, the opening part, influenced by his good friend and band mate on this song, Billy Preston, who released his own cover of this song just about the same time George's original version came out in 1970.

  • @Kieop
    @Kieop Месяц назад

    George originally wrote this song for Billy Preston. It was inspired by/patterned on a gospel song called "Oh Happy Day", which he thought was in public domain. Ironically, he was then sued for copyright infringement by the publishers of "He's So Fine" which was also a riff on "Oh Happy Day" and lost. Reminds me of Ed Sheeran's recent defence strategy. "Your honour, I didn't rip off Marvin Gaye. I ripped off Van Morrison!"

    George was a life long Hindu. The Beatles were introduced to Hinduism by his first wife, Patti Boyd, the blonde in the photos with George. Why the Beatles went to India to be with the Maharishi. Patti lived in India for a while, cause her dad worked for the East India Co. Her family moved back to London when she was a teen. And the rest is history. Patti is the only first Beatles wife still with us. She was a model in the 1960's. Plus, My Sweet Lord went straight to number one and was the first solo Beatle hit record. At the end of the song, the background singers are mentioning every Hindu Holy mans name. Have to get the lyrics.
