George wrote such uplifting music!! How can you not feel something spiritual listening to this (no matter what your beliefs might be). He didn't care who/what you followed, just that you aspired to be a good person and loved your fellow humans, and the world as a whole. RIP George.

Well, yes and no. We will never know what John might have done. We had a taster on 9 October 1980, his 40th birthday. I bought it and was on cloud 9. He was back; I was ecstatic. Exactly 2 months later (4 days after my birthday) he was murdered. So up to a point yes, but we will never truly know. Breaks my heart. Oh and never, ever mention the murdering bastard's name. That's what he wanted, to have his name linked to John's forever. He's the assassin, the murdering bastard or the killer. Ok, so have a great weekend, wherever you are. x love, peace and music from East Coast of England.

Yes, this is George's writing. He usually got one or two songs onto a Beatles record, but in the later Beatle years he got a few more as his writing improved substantially. Here he chants Hare Krishna and Hare Hare and other Hindu phrases. George was highly spiritual and was a uniter of people in faith and had no difficulty bridging any such gaps.
The production on this song and the album All Things Must Pass was by the late Phil Spector, of "Wall of Sound" notoriety, producer of so much 1960's pop.

John Lennon and Paul McCartney didn't want to record Harrison's music except when they needed more songs to finish the album. That's how the love song - Something (In The Way She Moves) was recorded written by Harrison, released by The Beatles and became a massive hit, still considered today as one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. Harrison by many people is considered their favorite musician from the Beatles.

There wasn't enough room on an album for John and Paul, never mind George towards the end of the Beatles. George was great, but way behind John and Paul for sheer volume of great songs. He matched them twice on Abbey Road and that's about it. Same in their solo careers, take all the greatest 15 songs from each after the break up, you'll see what I mean.

The "George songs" were always a highlight when I was young going through my mother's old Beatles records - "Something," "Here Comes the Son," and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" are just a few examples. And any old clips of them live, his harmonizing is integral to the whole vibe. And when they started despite being barely 15, he was the most musically talented technically, as far as a proper guitar player. It is just part of being a Beatles fan to always root for George! In addition to the songs he did closer to the break-up, he came with some great 80's tunes like "I Got My Mind Set on You" and "When we Were Fab" then was essentially in the lead spot for the super group the Travelling Willberrys (i.e. "Handle with Care," "End of the Line," etc)and they had a great album with a few unforgettable tunes. His post-humous 3 part bio done on Showtime like 10+ years ago is a MUST WATCH, especially as it seems you are both really digging his music. Love to see ya'll giving love to George!

I love George's vocal on this song. So much yearning and freedom of his soul, going up to Heaven. He was born to write and sing this song. This is a gift from George to humanity!

Said it before. George played some with Delaney and Bonnie near the end of the Beatles. So did Eric Clapton, Dave Mason and eventually Duane Allman. The musicians in Delaney and Bonnie were also Derek's Dominos and played on this album. Bobby Whitlock on keys, Jim Gordon on Drums, Carl Radle on Bass, Bobby Keys on Sax and Jim Price on Trumpet. Eric Clapton and Dave Mason also played on this great triple album.

You also had a lot of Joe cockers musicians for mad dogs and Englishmen come out of Delaney and Bonnie. Such a great incubator for talent. They made everyone that played with them better musicians.

You won't believe it's 50 years old.

The background vocals at the end are part of a Vedic chant. He got really into spirituality after his visit to India and began incorporating transcendental meditation and Vedic chants and mantras into his everyday life and music. Eventually going on to co-produce the album "Chants of India" with Ravi Shankar.

George usually got to contribute one or two songs per Beatles album, and they were all great. Some of the songs on All Things Must Pass were ones he had written as a Beatle, but they had not made it to a Beatles album. (EDIT: Think For Yourself; If I Needed Someone; Taxman; I Want To Tell You; Within You, Without You; Blue Jay Way; The Inner Light; Only A Northern Song; Old Brown Shoe; While My Guitar Gently Weeps; Piggies; Long, Long, Long; I Me Mine; For You Blue; Something; Here Comes The Sun...Beatles songs written and sung by George...probably some more.)

George was involved in Eastern Mysticism, and Hinduism from his days as a Beatle. He was raised in a Christian family, but was always searching, as you hear in the lyrics of this song, where he say's (to Christ) "I really want to know you Lord, but it takes so long." Race car driver Emerson Fittipaldi, and longtime best friend Eric Clapton, are both Christians, and Clapton had been counseling George and telling him that Christ said there is only one way. "No man comes to the father except through me." When George was dying in the hospital with lung cancer, I guess everything got clear for him, and he and Eric Clapton prayed the sinner's prayer on his death bed. George admitted, that deep in his heart all of these years, he knew Christ was the truth.
What a wonderful story. I saw Eric Clapton on a video telling this story and it made him cry.
    Thanks guys

You should listen to the remake on the 30th anniversary edition. The music is much crisper, especially his slide guitar part, but his voice was pretty much destroyed from the throat cancer that would eventually take his life. George wrote most of the songs on the album. The opener was co-written by Bob Dylan, and i think there might have been a cover on the 2nd disc. George got sued over this song for copyright infringement for the song "He's so fine" which ate up a lot of his time and energy for a few years.

❤❤***You HAVE to listen to George’s ‘All Things Must Pass’ album- he really exploded after the Beatles broke up. Yes I agree his talent was suppressed by the incredible talent of both John and Paul. He wrote all of his own music and lyrics. George was then free to pursue his spiritual journey, R.I.P. 🙏🏼💗

Yeah man, George had it! He was such a unique talent, all of the Beatles were unique talents. The way they grew up together was a true miracle. Yes, they had their differences but I truly believe that they loved each other. John got fed up with the business of it all, Paul was a "pop" king and really into the business of it, Ringo was the serious beat man, ask a drummer to play some of his stuff, and George was the spiritual soul. 45 years since I started listening to music and they are still my all time faves! You guys rock, I've really enjoyed following you!

For “subconscious plagiarism.” What a joke. Regardless, the whole tone of My Sweet Lord is light years away from He’s So Fine. He was attempting to write a song along the lines of “Oh Happy Day.”
