  • The response to my anxiety channel has been great and people are telling me that my videos are helping their anxiety. So its time I told my own anxiety story. How my anxiety problems developed and how I overcame my anxiety. Its a deeply personal story that talks about how my childhood experiences led to anxiety problems later in life, my struggle with paruresis, performance anxiety and health anxiety. Why I trained in CBT and hypnotherapy and how CBT and self hypnosis helped my anxiety problems. My anxiety story is thankfully a success story which is why I want to share and help other overcome their anxiety problems, whether its panic attacks, generalised anxiety, social anxiety, health anxiety or OCD. My channel will help you beat anxiety whatever the type.

Thank you for sharing your story. I have chronic health anxiety and I wish more people would understand anxiety disorders are real and very hard to live with.
I find your meditation videos helpful and often play them.

Thank you for providing all this content. Especially for us Americans. It costs a fortune to get any sort of help from a CBT professional, but thankfully we live in the era of RUclips.

No problem. I believe mental health support should be free. Although we have a free health service in the UK the waiting lists are very long and often doctors don't even put their patients on the list for CBT and just give them cheap medication instead. There is no substitute for one on one counselling but I try to fill the gap as best I can.

Hello Martin you have been my go to rock for the last 12 months. Listening to you and seeing that you had recovered and are living a normal life was the first step towards wellness for me. Your videos are simple and easy to follow. I wish you continued success and good health. Please keep up the videos...its all a learning experience and cbt is a wonderful tool. It should be taught in all secondary schools as there is a mental health crisis here in ireland among young people.

Hi Martin, I’ve found your videos really clear and helpful as both someone doing PGDip in CBT currently and fellow anxious human. Also shared your videos with clients who equally find this helpful. I wonder if you’d consider doing any videos aimed at cbt students in training; maybe tips or common mistakes, traps. Reckon you’d be excellent. 😊

I remember there used to be times that I couldn't pee on one of those wall urinals when someone would be just right next to me, I would imagine in my head that if I don't pee the guy might take it personal or he will stare at me in an awkward way, but that's just the brain talking. What helped was asking myself questions such as "do you think people care about whether you pee or not?" "Do you really think they will get mad and start fighting you or judging?" "Do you pay attention to the guy who's peeing right next to you every time?" Then I learned that no one even care if you don't pee right away because they are busy with their lives, and I'm sure that many people experienced it at least once. I no longer have that little fear but there used to be times that it did happened, it was quite rare, mostly in places like theaters and restaurants. Thanks for sharing your story, it was great listening to you and knowing a bit more about you.

Martin, thank you for your videos . I suffer from agoraphobia bad and panics where I feel like I'm going to pass out when I go anywhere and trying to figure out how to get the courage to expose my self and get over it yet scared .. My wife is a Dr . She tries to help but it's hard for her to honestly understand as she never had it and only understands it from a medical standpoint.

You are such a great guy for being so kind and sharing your knowledge with us all. I am truly greatful and your videos have helped me so much. It's rare to meet someone who's helping others for no personal gain.
Can we donate to you somehow , maybe a link to send you some money through PayPal as a thank you?
Would you consider private sessions ? Do you have an email?

Thats very kind of you. You tube has a feature called Super Thanks. The button is a heart with a dollar sign in it and the word thanks next to it. Its to the right of the like and download button.
Regarding private sessions, unfortunately that is something I am unable to offer at the moment. I hope to go back into counselling one day. If the channel takes off I hope it will allow me to do low cost or pro bono work in the future.

Bladder lock must be especially horrible because your stress hormones are flushed out by urine. It doesn't mean you are anxiety free after peeing but it sure is relaxing. I realized when my body is hydrated better and if I drink water when a panic attack is around the corner, it is more bearable and lasts shorter. Can even do daily tasks if it hits during the day.

I have a fear of hunger I avoid it at all costs because I worry it would be diabetes. I have to eat every two to three hours or I get anxious and think I am having a hypo which is very irritating and irrational my tiredness doesn’t help either because I start to think I have heart disease. I haven’t been diagnosed with diabetes or heart disease.
