- The sticky and unpredictable space bar on my 2018 MacBook keyboard was driving me nuts. It sounds impossible, but simply resetting the SMC seems to have fixed it!

It was driving me crazy and interfering with my work productivity as I had to do everything twice-over. I followed your directions and - so far anyway - everything works again. This actually worked. My space bar had been giving me fits for the past month and I was to the point where I was considering taking it to an Apple store to get it fixed. I took out my E key the other day and tried to clean it. Worked for a day, then it started sticking again. This worked! Thank you!
Thanks so much, it’s been a year since my keyboards were unresponsive, I even bought external keyboard for use and wished I’ve seen this video before. I’ve tried everything and nothing worked but now it does
He took 5 fuckng mins to just say restart ur system. 😭
My system would not restart at all by pressing the button. I had to do exactly his way so it depends.

Thank you soooo much! I have tried looking at videos from RUclips, all of them were about removing your keys. But when I saw this video, my Macbook Air 2019's spacebar is now, finally working!!!
@Dave Hanson- Great video. I actually had an issue with my "J" key. I did both updating my system version and holding power down for 10 secs. And it did the trick. My "J" button now works! Cheers!

It works!!!! My ESC key was not working at all, I thought nothing could be done to fix it but all I had to do was shut down and restart my laptop and the key is back to functioning! Thank you!

This is not the fix. It will get worse. Its a hardware problem and at some point you will need service. Look at my sentence. It double spaced again and I just did the SMC reset...
Worked like a charm for me! I have a 2017 MacBook Pro, and when I went into hardware - controllers it said "This computer doesn’t contain any Controller devices." I tried it pressing option, control, and shift while holding power key for 10 seconds and it worked. My "I" key was sticking like crazy!! Feels like a brand new keyboard now! I will have to get some compressed air to maintain the cleanliness under the keys but this was a god send! Thank you!
Hey can you share your long term personal review of MBP 2017, I am gonna buy a used one for $360 it's in still nice condition and battery health above 85. I am worried about the butterfly keys in it, are they faulty and really inconsistent?

My lady friend and I drank alcohol about it, and she gave me the same advice I gave her when she was in that position and I became okay with the breakup immediately. But we were really drunk, so she spent the night in my apartment. I only have one bed, so you know what that means: She took the bed and I slept on the couch. But on the couch, I really can't sleep. Something was bothering me. So I tossed and turned for about three hours, then I finally can't take it anymore, I stood up and went straight to my room where she's sleeping. I approached the bed, gently sat on it and I reached for her shoulder to pull her closer to me. She stirred and woke up. She asked what's up. I told her, you know, the first time I saw you, I was watching a video and left it playing to get my self a sandwich then went to the store to get some mayo then I got distracted by life that I forgot to finish the video. She said, you know what, I've been wondering about a weird noise in your night drawer. So we opened that drawer, and lo and behold, there's my phone and this video still has two minutes of play time on it.!

This absolutely worked for me. I have a MacBook Pro and the letter "E" was sticking. I tried removing the key, spraying with air, using a brush to remove dust, and nothing worked until I reset the computer. Thank you so much for sharing this information.

I found you in a google search and I'M SO HAPPY I DID!!! I have the same T2 controller and it worked perfectly, even without cleaning out with canned air. I've always been worried that that would push dust even further into the works. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

I've always wondered if there's any kind of software to fix this, it doesnt seem very hard to create a program, which detects when the key failed, and correct it. This method is even easier

@@lanceabaja2735 I brought it to an Apple authorized repair shop. They said don’t try to fix it yourself, you can’t, use the left side of the space bar because it’s going to cost $386 to fix and it’s not worth it.

Great Idea! Built in Keyboard and trackpad in my MacBook air 2013 was not working. Used external keyboard and mouse. Used this idea and built in keyboard as well as trackpad became ok.The only difference was while I pressed power on button apple logo came and it booted continuously. As soon as booting completed I released the power on button. Every thing become ok. Thanking you for yr post.
I had security chip T1. Big problem with the "h's" and the "b"s being stuck badly. Fix definitely improved things. Not perfect, but much improved. Thanks much.

Wow, this definitely worked! However, I still think there's something 'stuck' under the right side of my spacebar. I can feel that it doesn't depress like it used to. Still, it's SO MUCH BETTER than it was before. Thank you!!!

Thank you so much. If anyone is having trouble with the older version Mac, simply search up how to reset smc on RUclips and it should guide you. I was also having trouble at first but then got it to work.

Wait a second. That actually worked! I just purchased a new Macbook pro and often(most always) when I type I would get a random period. Now no more. This sentence was typed with no period. Crazy that such simple fix worked. I am still sceptical but time will tell.

Thank you, that fixed my issue. One of my keys ("N") was only working if you pressed it harder the the other keys. I did a SMC reset, and ow the keys all work with the same pressure.
You rock! I was so depressed because of left CTRL key not working in my MacBook Pro 2016 and I did not want to break any keys. I fixed it by shutdown the Mac and then pressing left CTRL+ left alt (option) + left shift + Power key for 10 seconds or more; 7 seconds are enough. Finally, I pressed the power button again and the magic happened. No CTRL issue.
