GREAT ADVICE!! ONE OF THE VERY BEST VIDEO'S I'VE SEEN IN A VERY LONG TIME. Funny bc my issue was the cap lock stopped working. I called and was on the phone with apple for 3.5 hours. But they didn't help me one bit. I just had this gut feeling that this happened when a auto update was done in the middle of the night. So I opted to sit it out and wait and wa-la after about a good month there was a newer update. So I did do that update and now the cap lock works perfectly. Go figure!
Great video. I was about to give up on fixing my keyboard; And than I came across this video. The mouse pointer control feature was on preventing proper functioning. After turning off, everything changed. I got my keyboard back to work. THANK YOU.
Thanks alot, didn’t realise one of the settings led the keyboard to behave differently and not responding. Changed the settings and voila it started working ❤
Oh my God Gary you are the best! pressing the option key five times was on which I did not know. I was using Final Cut Pro and trying to add a marker by using options + M, it wasn’t working. Must’ve tried it five times. I just did an update and this started. Needless to say I was a “little” concerned. Thank God it was something simple. Thank you! God bless!!!
That works to get rid of the crumbs and dust that find their way in. Using a can of air to blow into the keyboard when the keyboard is upside down can work (just don't hold the can of air upside down when using it; that is a trick used to clear out fluids in the nozzle of a paint sprayer, but it also ejects particles from a can of air).
Thanks for troubleshooting. It's not a dirty key as I protect my keyboard with a cover. Additionally, I had a whole new key installed professionally. Waste of my time and money!
Mouse keys are real guys 😭😭 I've been struggling for years, watched plenty of videos and never did they mention mouse keys, I got a new keyboard the old mini one with the batteries and got used to it hid my magic keyboard after that till i got a new mac and the problem came up again. Anyways all is set and fixed now. This was an appreciation comment 🙌🙏 didn't even finish the video 😂 but appreciate it so much
Hey Gary thanks for sharing this! When I was a new MAC user a few years ago, I turned on Mouse keys! Don’t know how I did it! I figured that it was something I did, and sure enough it was! How ever I could not sign on to my MAC because my pass word was in the key arrangement! Had to troubleshoot on my phone via internet!! A great lesson!! 😊

2017 MacPro 17" Laptop, My "Return" keys were not working on both the internal & wireless external apple keyboards. I watched the whole video, nothing so far until I tried reseting the NVRAM - Now All return keys work!!! 😁 Thank you
Nice job! Saved my Magic Keyboard. On a iMac, I found it difficult to delete the 'other' keyboard. It needs the +/- action on the bottom left of the 'Input Sources' panel.

Wow thank you!!! You just save me from buying a new one!... I got this problem on my keyboard recently, i was wondering what had happened why the letters UIOP corners doesn't work. I didn't even know this side of pointer control exists!😅 😅😅
I have an older keyboard for my Mac that you had to plug in. A few months ago it started typing endless periods. I then bought a new magic keyboard and it worked fine, so I'm sure that the older keyboard developed a hardware problem. Maybe some dirt got into the period key? The magic keyboard is so nice that I won't go back to the old one anyway.
"Sticky" keys are often the result of a build up of lotion from the hands leaking into the mechanics. It could also be lint piling up inside the key. And it could be just a failing spring that is supposed to return the key to its proper height.

my left option key stopped working but the right one works...but this helped me make the control key do option key command until i can figure out why it stopped working. thank you! wow this is so helpful!! I plugged in another keyboard and the key works fine there...getting somewhere! thank you!!

I was nervous and must have hit the option key five times. This video saved me thousands of dollars. Last time my number pad stopped working I threw my whole mac out the window for real.

Coincidentally this has just happened to me, I had to go through a long and laborious task to get back in, Wish i had known at the time it was a faulty keyboard. Ive now got a Macally 104 key with USB connection and loving it👍
Thank you this was a life save and a wallet ssaver as well. I could not get my keyboard to work on my IMac. I purchased two other keyboards and returned them. So I tried my old sticky keyboard and it stopped working. I have been using Macs since the Lisa in 1985 and many other updates since, but I and never came across this problem. You never realize what you need to do when you can't use the keyboard. You can not type anything. to get help. Thank you so much for all your assistance.
Good video Gary. Thanks. Somehow I had Mouse Keys and Sticky Keys turned on when I first rebooted after updating MacOS yesterday. Didn’t have an external usb keyboard handy but did get about 5 secs after rebooting to enter my “mouse keys”. Took a couple of goes but got there. The “in MacOS” options of pressing the Option Key 5 times did not work, nor did Shift 5 times, nor did Option Command F5. Almost had to go back to the Apple Store or to Erase All Content and start afresh. Luckily your video pointed me in the right direction of things to try. Many thanks. Keep up the good work. ❤
Thank you sir - My friends macbookair kept typing symbols so it wouldnt let you type the password - Changing the input languages with no results - ending up using a usb plug in keyboard to type the password - once in it kept typing symbols - after watching this, turned out that I had to click 'ON' "Sticky Keys" After a million videos and websites - This video actually had me try that and BAM! worked.. Thank you Again, And thumbs up... Im still a widows man - I personally do not like apple products - They make stuff way more complicated than it has to be
this is great! I just fixed a previous issue logging in because the A key stopped working and then noticed that the languages on the keyboard were set improperly by default. After changing it, I thought nothing of it because it's a kids laptop. Came up with a work around and was sure that I was going to have to replace the keyboard. Opened it up the Am to test it and the A key was working! I was sure the whole keyboard was shorting out🤣🤐. Then after watching your video i realized it was the Language that was making the A key invalid😅. Thank for the visual walk through it definitely saved me $200.

Turning the keyboard upside down and tapping it at various angles can get rid of some obstructive grit from under troublesome keys.
That works to get rid of the crumbs and dust that find their way in.
