I was a student at the flagpole. We all booed when they tore down the flag and rose their foreign one. We endured insults and objects thrown at us as we protected our flag. It was hardly even about Israel at that point; it was about America.
If you were there I’m glad you guys kept it peaceful. Well done.
Any person who lives in America, be they a visitor or a citizen, who disrespects the flag should leave America. And I'm not even an American.
i disagree. America is a land where anyone can do anything as long as they respect the law. disrespecting the flag is not breaking the law and it can send a message . I love America but sometimes it doesn't live up to what it should be. But part of what makes our country so great is the freedom. whether it be the freedom to love or hate.

This scene and the subsequent singing of the National Anthem while the flag was being re-raised brought a tear to my eye. It’s so refreshing to see that there is a shred of hope for our great nation so battered and bruised.
As a soldier in the US, the action of these fine civilians means more than a thousand thank yous for my service. Brothers and sisters have died wearing our flag on their shoulders. You lift them up in memory by fighting for the home front as we fight abroad. Bless you.

Im only 2nd generation in this country and ironically enough my grandfather came from Russia and experienced the soviet union under Stalin. When he got here, after a few weeks, he enlisted in the marines(bc the army was mainly in Europe and didnt want to possibly fight his own) and went off to fight in the pacific. He experienced communism and the harsh rule and then experienced democracy and freedom. He said after only a few weeks, maybe a month, he said that this country is worth dying for. Well thankfully he didnt die for it but he sure did some killin.
He told me about bread lines, the gulags, starvations, couldnt trust your neighbors from fear of getting ratted out, etc etc etc. He wouldnt do it every day but he made sure the flag was always up in his front yard.
He also stopped speaking russian and forbid my mother from even learning it.
I didnt learn i was russian until i did a family history report in like the 7th or 8th grade back in like 2004.
I dont need to experience communism to know ita fuckin garbage bc i listened to men who lived under it and then fought against it.

alot of these acts arent protests anymore when destruction of property is enacted, and in this instance, the 'protesters' are now Violent Rioters as they both verbally and physically assaulted those students(notice items being thrown, liquid being sprayed and in the beginning of the video a woman in close proximity apparently yelling)
Freedom of Speech is an important right everyone should have and utilize when they have strong feelings for thing, but what we've failed is thorough critical thinking.
Many of these student protests do nothing but make the students themselves look bad , just really reminding me of the detestable climate protests who block traffic(Climate change is a big issue, but the way it is gone about being put forth makes everyone hate the people and reason :P)

Dude, if that's true I'm sad. Anyone who saw the videos would know they were holding Israeli flags in solidarity and defense of their Jewish frat members. They only went to the flag pole because it was already at half mast (police killed in the community the day before) and the protestors were trying to take it down completely.

It’s harder to convince people to send money abroad than it is for people who rally around our flag, but I do understand the frustration with that. I have a quite a few friends who have been over there or still are facing similar struggles
It would really help if more people knew their history. Specifically the part where we pressured Ukraine into giving up their nukes and promised protection. If anything, we're paying back what we owe them for basically baiting them into a war for nothing...

As a veteran (1998-2006), I would have found a way to re raise that flag, and defend the base of the pole..... While there are things I disagree with, in my government's choices, I will always defend my flag and my country, and to honor of all my brothers and sisters who gave their lives in service...
I just learned that these young men were in fact able to re raise the flag, and did stand guard over it for a long time in the face of violent adversity... These men are heroes..

I am fine with what the protesters did with replacing the flag. Even if don't agree with them, it is still free speech. The flag cord was badly damaged which needs immediate repair and to hoist the flag with a damaged cord is considered a slight disrespect to the flag.
