- Parkrun has stirred controversy by wiping all gender, course, and age records from its website due to concerns about trans women athletes achieving the fastest times in female categories. This move has angered former British Olympians, leading some participants to withdraw their support, citing their refusal to fund an organisation that chooses to 'hide its stats' instead of 'correcting its gender policy.'
Sharron Davies, a former British swimmer, criticised Parkrun as 'cowardly,' while Mara Yamauchi, a former marathon star, accused the organisation of prioritising men over women. She pledged to keep speaking out if males continue to compete in female categories.
The free event, which attracts thousands of athletes of varying abilities every Saturday morning across the UK, has faced criticism for its controversial entry rules allowing biological men to self-identify as females.

As an age group record holder along with other runners this action is appalling...ban those weak men identifying as a woman to boost yhrir ego rather than punish legimate runners......its cowardly

This is silly. I wouldn't expect park run ro be iding everyone. Leave park run alone and focus on realky issues.
It's a co-ordinated campaign of demoralisation. It's the only explanation as to why all these obviously bad things are happening at once.
If i get a tan, can i identify as ethnic minority & claim scholarships? The point is you cant chose genetics as and when you like. If a man with a wig is a woman, then im ethnic minority

The "Trans" category would be male-to-female only. Female-to-male athletes would not be competetitive, because it is the effect of testosterone in puberty that gives the advantage. Remember in the 1960s when the Russians were winning all the medals because they were giving their female athletes testosterone? I can't imagine working all my life to be a competitve female athlete and having my medal taken away by a mediocre male athlete who decides to compete as a female. If trans people want to be in competitive sports, let them compete with people of their birth gender. If this isn't resolved, it will be the end of women's sports. Or is that the actual objective?

That debate was a shame. Not one person involved in it understood the changes that have been made. I can at least agree that parkrun have handled a difficult situation appallingly.
This is going to be a bit of a slog to sort out. Parkrunning is a fabulous institution: hopefully it can continue to be so during the current shambles.

They will never make another category for trans woman/me because then you can’t say trans woman are woman… so it won’t ever happen

How can parkrun possibly police gender? They're run by volunteers who don't see anyone's data at all. You don't know your result or anyone else's until they're uploaded later... at what point are you going to insist on verifying someone's gender, after they've gone home and had breakfast? I have volunteered at parkrun and I would not be standing at the finish line asking people for their birth certificate...? Let it be.
Ah. Be a good sport, create co-gender sport teams and allow unicorns join.
Nobody can think this is right other then the woke brigade. You can see its unfair when these transgender athletes are beating the women by such large margins.

Stop with the comments about how badly this has been handled, parkrun have done the only thing they can do. Think about it for a moment a man turns up at parkrun and claims he's a woman who is anybody to say otherwise and what if it turns out you challenge somebody and they are just a masculine looking woman? We've all seen how aggressively TG athletes defend their position, who needs that sort of nonsense when you are providing a fun, free, event? Yes it's spoilt and no I don't like it but am I the only person who has thought beyond demanding what I want? A trans cat wouldn't work, these people want to win not compete on a level playing field.
Have a trans category, and gender at birth category when you sign up. Could also have official course records done by an official runner of known gender. Ru nners could try to aim for that. Trans runners may still cheat but at least you have an idea if suddenly a course record is smashed
@@jonwilson8178 This is not about being recognised (and BTW my understanding is that 'tg women' want to be recognised as 'women') this is about winning. It's broken and cannot be fixed without going to extraordinary lengths, be happy we still have parkrun.
