- Senior Campaigns and Public Affairs Officer Eleanor Bateman provides an update for landlords on the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Bill. The Bill completed Committee stage this week, and here Eleanor discusses what happens next, and NRLA campaigning to shape the Bill.

Thanks for these videos. Key questions for me as a leaseholder: 1. how likely is this to get royal assent before any election? We don’t know when the election will be but I am concerned by the number of consultations and that the detailed work is being saved for the Lords, and passage through there will be slow as a result 2. If an election does arrive before it clears both houses, which clauses are likely to survive the wash up? Particularly those relating to how changes are made to existing leases. I can’t imagine they would just be nodded through.
Thanks for your comment. As you say, given we don’t know when a general election will be, it’s very difficult to speculate on whether this Bill will receive Royal Assent in time. A considerable number of amendments were made at Committee stage. Rest assured we will communicate with members on the progress of this Bill. Will the marriage clause definitely be abolished or is there a chance that some unscrupulous politician might just suddenly decide to include it?
Will the ground rent be capped? Or reduce to a pepper corn rent??
