- Conservative MPs are threatening to rebel over the government's new housing proposals.
In a letter to Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, more than 30 Tory MPs have stated their dissatisfaction with the current leasehold system and implored the government to scrap ground rent on leasehold properties.

God I’m paying £140 a month, I thought that was a lot.
There needs to be a cap on service charges. But then lots of MPs are landlords so little is going to change.
It's not an affront to the 'Conservative dream' of Capital squeezing the working poor for every penny.
Service Charges and how they are spent are the issue for Leaseholders . Trading Standards need to monitor and be the escalation point for this. If the Government cannot deliver real change then hopefully they will move aside and let Labour solve these issues.

People are surely savvy enough to do some research prior to committing to purchase of leasehold property. They also usually pay less for this short term than for freeholds. All costly and legally binding contracts should be carefully scrutinised and no signature is worthy of risk.
She could easily take action against the freeholder. The freeholder here is in breach, she could take them to court, she would win, they would pay here court costs and have to carry out the necessary repairs to the building and the subsequent damage to the leaseholders property.

I think there shouldn't be a leasehold itself . It's a bullshit system. But all the old one there should be way that's leaseholders be able to buy the ownership. May the difference between what was paid and the price to buy the place entirely. Though issue will still be with who can't afford to buy entirely but something is better then nothing.
More people doing their part and engaging in the framework of society just to be done over by it. Encouraging.

It is only fair tor both tenants and landlords to be held to account.Destructive tenants can, and do, vandalise property! It should not be the landlords who get the tab for the cost of renter's damage.By new laws landlords already have to stick to guidelines or face penalties and this is very unfair as what is often the case is caused by those over protected others.
