Wouldn't that be about the same vertical length as a 32"? I think when your UW is that small it almost doesn't make any sense to extend the aspect ratio - which is why we only really see UW come into effect at the 27" 16:9 size and up.
@@TuNguyen-nj4os yea but 27 inch are already at the top end of normal monitor sizes which is why most people would like vertical extensions whereas the 23-24 inch space is the standard having plenty of room to grow in both directions - the vertical being the most obvious one.

I am actually glad they are brining a 40" back to the market, even though its only an ultrawide. I could game on this pretty well if it does do 75hz. I wish they would bring back more 40 inch 4k displays. I actually found it to be the sweet spot in most games instead of 32 inch 4k. The 40 inch 4k allows some games such as MMO's to give larger HUD and toolbar displays. Easier on the eyes then the 32 inch 4k. I would love if they would make a 40inch 4k IPS 144hz monitor. But this ultrawide is not bad at all, except for the price. Should be perhaps $1200 or so, not $2000!
TVs have now got better ports than this monitor has! HDMI 2.1 is now becoming a norm in TVs. Also, TVs have started to have high refresh, low latency displays with game mode that makes it close to a gaming monitor than some of the actual monitors currently available. BTW, by adding a TV tuner card to your PC, you can use that for cable TV as well! With most of the world moving to streaming services, cable TV is becoming more and more irrelevant. As such even the TVs are moving towards becoming better monitors.
Bought this monitor back in April last year. Turned it on Thursday Morning last, and lines vertically on left hand side and all along the bottom. Opened up a ticket , tech support asked for pictures and then came back within 24 hours saying I’d physically damaged the monitor! Spent two hours on the phone with them today , asked for an engineer to call out , they said they don’t repair monitors, said I’d pay for the engineer call to prove the monitor was in perfect condition with no physical damage they said no. I asked how do I resolve it , they said go to a repair shop ! They then sent me an email saying to contact Dell sales to purchase a new monitor, after the current one which cost me over €2000 didn’t last 12 months! Scandalous service. I now have to go to the consumer protection agency and possibly legal.
90 watts is so nice! My laptop overcurrents my dell ultra wide on DisplayPort alt mode anytime I need to charge and use the processor at the same time. It is the only thing keeping me from having the coveted one wire connection at my desk.
I bought a U3419W in December to go with my M1 MacBook Air and also replace my Apple 23" Cinema HD and 20" Cinema Displays I was using with my Linux box up until then. I might have even bought this one instead if it had already been out then… What I like is the full build in TB Hub including ethernet, so after I move, I might get this one for my video conferencing setup, so I can hook up my monitor, capture card for the Sony A7, ethernet and keyboard and mouse all with one cable which would be pretty sweet (plus, I think it looks a little bit better than the U3419W and is a little larger, which is nice when you can really only connect one external display)
I'm SURPRISED that everyone is FINALLY starting to see Dell's Elaborate and Professional looking Gaming/Content Creation monitors. I've had my Dell S3220DGF for almost 1.5 years now and I love it!
power delivery is why this will sell a ton for laptop users. a lot of mac and pc users will see one cable to plug in and be sold, even if it isn't necessarily the best monitor.
I’ll bet I can tell you why this is coming out now. It’s for the “work from home” people. Built in KVM and laptop charging? IE bring your work laptop home and switch back and forth and not need a bunch of extra cables /keyboard/etc. I bought a USB switch and USB-C to DisplayPort cable to do the same thing.
@@mkruizv lol spot on - I’d love the io on this - as I switch between my MacBook Pro and my Windows/Ubuntu desktop quite a lot - my clunky solution is a usb c hub plugging into my laptop and another usb a hub plugging into usb sharing switch. So still “one cable” I have to plug into and out of my laptop but a whole lot of nastiness in the wiring behind to get it to work...
I use the 34 inch version and it's sick. Fantastic for people who need dual monitors but don't have the desk space for it. I just wish it could support 180 watt power, not 90. One cable to my laptop vs two.
I love that these guys at LMG never take retakes for small mistakes like saying 'with' instead of 'without' (4:27). That part is managed by the editing team. That is entertaining.
If you do end up doing a review, check to see if windows can retain the display settings when the monitor is off and sometimes when switching inputs (PC still on). Windows resizes the display and program windows with my U3415W, so I bought a HDMI dummy plug and set it up with matching settings in mirror mode.
Guys I'm starting to be impressed to a new level... For real though some of the little bits you drop in there like "feel" are hard to do in a video. But somehow I'm starting to get it very well 👍
These new high (or at least, moderately high) PPI ultrawides are coming out now for M1 users who are stuck with only one external monitor and have to replace their dual or triple monitor setups all the sudden. You can go with 49 inch screens like the Odyssey G9, CRG9, LG/Dell 49 IPS (same panel for the last two), but the PPI is very low by Apple user standards. For this niche, I think the Dell 40 inch will do OK, as will that 34 inch 34BK95U-W you mentioned. They're all basically substitutes for XDRs.
With the power delivery, PIP and KVM, this may just be aimed at, as James said, executives. Come in with your laptop, connect this to the monitor also powering it, while also it's running a desktop. Maybe do some PIP to keep watch on some servers or sheets or what have you. I think the smaller features together form a sum that aims this at people that have specific needs from their displays which aren't gaming/production related.
This is the exact monitor I've been waiting for. LG's 34" did not seem large enough for me, so I've been waiting for something larger (specifically from dell). Only downside is that it's 60hz, but at least it can be slightly overclocked. I'll keep playing with dogecoin and hopefully get this monitor soon.
Recently viewed this monitor and is an awesome display - I think the first thing is referring to the combination of the size and resolution as all the other screens with this resolution are smaller. Its on my shortlist for my nest monitor.
KVM, 144 ppi, Thunderbold3 w/ 90 watts power delivery, curved display - it definitely is a combination that the LG does note provide. Actually there is no other display right now at all. Yes, you have to be part of the target group that actually uses two devices on one keyboard/mouse/monitor set. This monitor seems to be well designed for home office use these days where you want to separate work and personal stuff with a desktop PC (or M1 Mac mini in my case 🤤) as your home device and the laptop from your employer. If that laptop is intended to be fully integrated into the setup or even is a MacBook of some sort, you absolutely need USB-C with Thunderbold 3 support. This is what this display provides all at once and you won’t find anything like this anywhere else on the market today.
I think this monitor actually looks pretty decent. It would be something that I would consider buying if I was looking for that size. Unfortunately I don't have the desk space for a monitor that wide. On my computers I currently have a Dell 34-inch Curved UW U3415W, two Dell 32-inch Curved Gaming S3220DGF, a Dell 30-inch U3011, and a Dell 29-inch UW U2913WM.
Disagree, especially for a casual gamer that's looking for more content creation purposes. 60hz, or anything above would be pointless when I'd likely be sacrificing color accuracy or something equally important.
@@icanmakeeverythingilovedie9861 everyone has their own picks for what they want/have to do.. if you need a highly color accurate 4K display, then 60hz is the way to go. If you need/want a high refresh rate, but less color accurate display then a 144/240hz gaming monitor is for you. Personally, for what I use my pc for, I have a 144hz LG 1080p 27”. It works well for everday use even for other purposes that aren’t gaming related, like for watching movies, or just chilling with a chrome cast watching youtube.
I got the Dell U3818DW. This monitor is the first 40", 5k, 21:9, curved display! And if I had to buy a new one, I would buy this one. It's just a giant productivity monitor. No gaming, no HDR. But photoshop, 3D, excel, browsing,... for all the rest it's perfect.
@@snowwny Yes, in 2020. But I brought my screen beginning of 2019. By then it was already over a year on the market. If you want productivity, you need the size and resolution. 75% of my screen time are spreadsheets + I can't live without the build in KVM switch, especially now with the working at home. And I need no higher FPS for Cities Skylines and Anno 1800.

that's a nice big screen, i like this format and curvature more than those ultra-ultrawide 49" screens, hope they will do a 120 or 144Hz version for gamers
Do you have a hard time watching movies? No? Well movies are 24fps. There is a reason 60 isnt standard, its literally not needed. When you aren't in controll the fps doesn't matter as much. Edit: And if fps did matter when you are watching, then 60 isn't even enough. I'd say if you want to have a smooth experience you need atleast 90-120fps minimum.
I returned two LG 5K2 monitors due to crazy annoying screen retention issues. Try googling this, it seems like a known issue with that monitor. For some, this might be enough reason to stay away from the LG panel based ones. I ordered this one, simply for an alternative 5K2K ultra-wide. BTW, which are the other 40" curved 5K2K monitors out there? There is a statement made that this is just bad marketing, but, he never refers to the existing 40" 5K2K curved ultra-wide that makes this claim false?
From a Win 10/11 developer/3D/CAD perspektive 40" is way better than 34" if you want that 5k2k 100% zoom screen realestate. It gives you an amazing workspace of almost 5x1080p monitors stacked together in one screen. What many users of 4k/5k 24"-34" screens end up doing, is to set zoom at 200 or 300 to make the apps size usable. Basically that leaves you with a common 1080p or 1440p screen. Then why spend extra money on 4k?
The lower PPI, due to a larger 40" panel, will default your OS to a scale closer to 100% over the LG (you could get away using this at 100% scale if your eyesight was good). Therefore, you get more usable screen real-estate over the LG. These are enterprise orientated monitors. I can see this easily replace a 4 x 24" 1920 x 1080 setup that old school traders have.
I think this is more for an office kind of display, if you work with economy etc, it has a built in dock for the computer so for everyone who is running a laptop this is great and if you work with excel you have a good size, i work as an IT tech, and work with both software and hardware installations, and this type of screen is great when building new setups, it takes 5 min to just plug in and start up and you get super clean cable management.

They are right though, this is the first 40inch 5k/2k wide monitor.
I feel like James finally got pulled up for always calling his unboxings ‘reviews’
Built in KVM switch is very nice , switching between office laptop and personal rig in a button is pretty handy
When is the big ultrawide roundup video coming. If love a video where you compare the most popular ultrawides
Love how streamlined dells monitor lineup is. Many similarities with my 160€ ultrasharp. I think I would instantly feel at home with this one
4:29 can you please add metric numbers in future as well? I know most of your viewers probably are from US and CAN but there are just few countries that actually use imperial system. Imperial system is damn stupid.
We Canadians don’t stoop that low. The only people still using imperial are the old timers.
What a ridiculous ask
I remember Linus using metric most of the time. It's weird they didn't this time.
Multiply by 25 mm, not that hard
majority of the audience is american
All I wanna say is that the monitor got some real high quality packaging. Love it
I would love to see more 29" - 30" (ips high refresh rate) ultrawides on the market
Wouldn't that be about the same vertical length as a 32"? I think when your UW is that small it almost doesn't make any sense to extend the aspect ratio - which is why we only really see UW come into effect at the 27" 16:9 size and up.
@@fVNzO You can say the same about 34" ultrawide vs 40+" 16:9 , 29" is for those want a 23-24" but ultrawide
I got excited when I first saw this then I saw the refresh rate 😟
@@TuNguyen-nj4os yea but 27 inch are already at the top end of normal monitor sizes which is why most people would like vertical extensions whereas the 23-24 inch space is the standard having plenty of room to grow in both directions - the vertical being the most obvious one.
@@fVNzO But there are some who find 27" a bit too large(include myself). Your eyes are horizontal so if you extend horizontal size you don't need to sit further back
It looks to be meant at office work, built in ethernet basically makes it a docking station (at least when used with usb c/thunderbolt 3 laptops).
It’s a perfect programming monitor
agreed
Love how monitors are turning into TVs and TVs are getting more monitors like!
You do the best unboxings out of everyone at LMG I love the sound effects and facial expressions lmao!
Feels odd and very wrong watching him and NOT hearing Riley in the background. lol
Hearing the unboxer say this Dell brings nothing new, when I've been waiting for this monitor for 4+ years, yeah...
Right, literally been waiting for years for this
90 watts is so nice! My laptop overcurrents my dell ultra wide on DisplayPort alt mode anytime I need to charge and use the processor at the same time. It is the only thing keeping me from having the coveted one wire connection at my desk.
This was actually REALLY great video, until James started giving opinions.... oh well.
I bought a U3419W in December to go with my M1 MacBook Air and also replace my Apple 23" Cinema HD and 20" Cinema Displays I was using with my Linux box up until then. I might have even bought this one instead if it had already been out then…
What I like is the full build in TB Hub including ethernet, so after I move, I might get this one for my video conferencing setup, so I can hook up my monitor, capture card for the Sony A7, ethernet and keyboard and mouse all with one cable which would be pretty sweet (plus, I think it looks a little bit better than the U3419W and is a little larger, which is nice when you can really only connect one external display)
4:27 please include kilograms, I have no idea what that is
Nobody uses lb and inch
if you really care just google it
@@agentfiveseven7270 or just dont use Imperial system
That packaging is insane. We as customers should demand this always. Minimal plastic, smartly packaged to make it easier to assemble. Just wow.
My guess is the target is MacBook users...
@@sohamray908 You dont need a Dock if the monitor is the dock.

Giggity?
You should check an invoice. I'm pretty sure you will find expended warranty there.
Is his T-Shirt also in the LTT store, or from where can i get it ?
I use the 34 inch version and it's sick. Fantastic for people who need dual monitors but don't have the desk space for it. I just wish it could support 180 watt power, not 90. One cable to my laptop vs two.
When we getting LTT Shears?

Dell: Let's release a $1000 monitor for $2000.
Dell generally offer premium monitors, they leave the cheap end to brands like Handspree, AOC, ASUS, BenQ etc
I love that these guys at LMG never take retakes for small mistakes like saying 'with' instead of 'without' (4:27). That part is managed by the editing team. That is entertaining.
But did you get financing with that?
I love the way dell packaged it, it was like that for my Alienware monitor and makes set up so fast and easy
It’s a new gang: The Delta E’s
Don’t mess with the Delta E’s!!!
If you do end up doing a review, check to see if windows can retain the display settings when the monitor is off and sometimes when switching inputs (PC still on). Windows resizes the display and program windows with my U3415W, so I bought a HDMI dummy plug and set it up with matching settings in mirror mode.
Why would you buy this over the LG 5k2k? Cause it's bigger and curved. Idk why he was so negative about this monitor
Guys I'm starting to be impressed to a new level... For real though some of the little bits you drop in there like "feel" are hard to do in a video. But somehow I'm starting to get it very well 👍
3:08 Cable management = illuminati confirmed
I like James's care free attitude with the cardboard. Chuck it, fling it. I love it.
Please include metric in the future for those of us too lazy to convert. :c
You meant for the rest of the world?
Assembly needs more praise all brands should do this especially at high price ranges.
Finally, some public appreciation for pocket shears
the monitor rotation is also good if your desk isn't perfectly level. Dell's stands are usually quite good with ergonomics.
Linus used those snips in the love stream today
These new high (or at least, moderately high) PPI ultrawides are coming out now for M1 users who are stuck with only one external monitor and have to replace their dual or triple monitor setups all the sudden. You can go with 49 inch screens like the Odyssey G9, CRG9, LG/Dell 49 IPS (same panel for the last two), but the PPI is very low by Apple user standards.
For this niche, I think the Dell 40 inch will do OK, as will that 34 inch 34BK95U-W you mentioned. They're all basically substitutes for XDRs.
Yikes. Dell got dissed by a guy that immediately after, said "yee" while dabbing.
Dell monitors have been getting packaged like this for a few years now, it's so much better than any other brand's I've seen.
That's the one for Apple users, Pc Master Race would use the LG one
Why would PC Master Race want a significantly smaller monitor?
@@Dreamwriter4242 idk I think this guy's a apple fanboy

With the power delivery, PIP and KVM, this may just be aimed at, as James said, executives. Come in with your laptop, connect this to the monitor also powering it, while also it's running a desktop. Maybe do some PIP to keep watch on some servers or sheets or what have you. I think the smaller features together form a sum that aims this at people that have specific needs from their displays which aren't gaming/production related.
The world's first third ever 5k2k monitor?
This is the exact monitor I've been waiting for. LG's 34" did not seem large enough for me, so I've been waiting for something larger (specifically from dell). Only downside is that it's 60hz, but at least it can be slightly overclocked. I'll keep playing with dogecoin and hopefully get this monitor soon.
You keep shears in your pocket??! My mom would never approve...
I have kept scissors in my back pocket. Even gone home on a bus before noticing, a small pair for that last part.
@@ethelredhardrede1838 nice

only reason it has that rotation is because that stand is very likely used for other smaller monitors where they _can_ be rotated vertically

I think he totally missed the point.

I think this monitor actually looks pretty decent. It would be something that I would consider buying if I was looking for that size. Unfortunately I don't have the desk space for a monitor that wide.

60hz should be illegal
Disagree, especially for a casual gamer that's looking for more content creation purposes. 60hz, or anything above would be pointless when I'd likely be sacrificing color accuracy or something equally important.
LG got you covered, Dell mostly focus on office / content creation use
guess I'm a criminal now
@@icanmakeeverythingilovedie9861 everyone has their own picks for what they want/have to do.. if you need a highly color accurate 4K display, then 60hz is the way to go.
Isn’t LG 38WN95-c better? Much higher refresh refresh rate. I just can’t live with 60hz monitor. My 2010 monitors are 60hz.
@@snowwny Yes, in 2020. But I brought my screen beginning of 2019. By then it was already over a year on the market. Which is why you should upload in 60FPS!
@@llamacannon1714 lol, it's a joke, i'm not stupid. and 60 being "not needed" isn't a very good statement for monitor reviews.
HELL DELL NO! My bois in comments were first
From a Win 10/11 developer/3D/CAD perspektive 40" is way better than 34" if you want that 5k2k 100% zoom screen realestate.
WHERE DO I BUY THAT SHIRT WTF
The lower PPI, due to a larger 40" panel, will default your OS to a scale closer to 100% over the LG (you could get away using this at 100% scale if your eyesight was good). Therefore, you get more usable screen real-estate over the LG.
These are enterprise orientated monitors. I can see this easily replace a 4 x 24" 1920 x 1080 setup that old school traders have.
Was anyone else getting annoyed by the sound of a phone vibration in the music?
YES.
