This looks gorgeous, thank you for posting this! I own the previous version of this panel (used on LG 40WP95C) and also 5k2k/40inch but at 72hz and for those wondering, both my M1 Max Mac Studio and M2 Max MBP scale perfectly and the text looks crisp to my critical eye! I’m looking forward to upgrading to this once it goes on sale February 27! 120hz, IPS black, TB4 hub…yes please!
@@District7DrewGeraciNice! Are you able to do 120hz with the MBP? I am a little concerned about that, not sure if my Mac Studio M1 Max, which is my daily driver will be up to the task!
Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. Since the Mac machines I have are with TB4 (with DP alternative), it is my understanding is that there is enough bandwith to run this monitor. A popular workaround is doing a TB4 to HDMI cable. Apologies, just to confirm, you are saying that in your case you are NOT getting 5k2k/120hz with your MBP M2? @@District7DrewGeraci
@@salvamando1 I can only run at 5k 60hz via TB4 to my MBP. You would have to get a TB4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter to achieve the 120Hz @ 5k with most of the Macs.
sRGB is likely your best colorspace to view regular content in; if you're editing video, use REC709/P3 as that's the next best color setting to use depending on what you're doing. Hope that helps!
Currently using a 34" 1440p 21:9 monitor and always wanted a bit larger real estate. Had a 49" before that but it sucks for gaming . this 40" with higher dpi looks like a good alternative.
Thanks for the great review! Seems like you are the only reviewer with a mention on games for this monitor. I am looking through the product specs on dell's website and it does not seem to state any gsync or freesync compatibility. Currently looking for a gaming monitor for my new 4090 rig and this seems to tick all the boxes (ultra wide with same or more ppi than a 32inch 4k monitor). Just wondering if this would be great for gaming without those features? Thanks!
Review incorrectly states '2-3ms lag'. I'm not sure if he is specifically referring to input lag but even then, it is too low to be true. Furthermore, it has shitty G2G response of 5ms (which translates to around 13ms average in real world). So, we are potentially looking at 20ms lag for 80% color switch. TDLR; this monitor would suck for fast paced gaming. Lag is basically the main downside of this monitor. I hope dell improves upon that in next gen and also with 10K+ zone backlight would go a long way.
@@Navhkrin Same my thought, the response time is what it refrains me to buy this monitor, all the rest seems excellent. But I don't understand the author saying that gaming is fine when I see very detailed reviews stating the response time quality is terrible.
Thank you for your nice review. I am evaluating this monitor for audio production and general productivity. Can you share how this scales with Apple Silicon? I might run at 1.33x magnification for readability and am willing to sacrifice some clarity. Running at full resolution would be great if text and UI elements are readable. Best regards.
I literally just purchased the Mac M2 Ultra and have been wrecking my brain tryna find the best display monitor that would pull out the best on my new Mac. I like the ultra wide curve feel and this Dell 4025QW seems to be the best way to go. Is this something you’d recommend for the M2 Ultra and if so, any recommendations as to what I’d need with this monitor including connections?
Hello, great video, thank you so much for it! Could you let me know if this monitor supports HiDPI resolution/settings? I have an M4 Pro Max. Best regards, Simon from Germany
Hey Simon! Thanks for watching! It doesn't have Apple's definition of HiDPI at 5k, but it's actually better. The 5k resolution and standard DPI work great with M3 and M4 chips. The sharpness and clarity of the text looks great, better than 'retina'!
thanks for the review! I have heard from elsewhere fast-moving objects look quite blurry on the screen so its not good fod fps/fast paced games, do you find the same? thanks
@@TechListrTelugu you can ignore the rtings review here… everyone is suprised over the bad review from rtings (i was worried too, you can read here some posts on reddit) but after one week now i can say that the Monitor is incredible and i love it :) maybe its an option for you to wait till the Oled 5k2k from lg comes out 2025/2026
Do you have any contrast measurements for this panel? This one is interesting because it has an IPS Black panel which is supposed to offer double the native contrast to LG's previous nano IPS
Yeah, that's what I have suggested to them (it would likely be a whole new design due to the cooling of the unit) and likely be $1200-2500 more in price.
Thanks for watching! There honestly isn't much of a curve (maybe like 5-8% at the most). I love working with grids and tables on it and it doesn't warp the image at all. Looks pretty much 1 to 1 like a flat screen.
@@District7DrewGeraci Could you verify that G-Sync actually works in games? (If in doubt, may use the option "Display => Show indicator for G-SYNC" in the Nvidia Control Panel)
Can you daisy chain two of these at full 5120x2160@120Hz resolution using a single TB4 connection from a Windows PC or is the bandwidth too much? Can you at least do it at a lower refresh rate (e.g. 5120x2160@75Hz)?
That's a great question! Theoretically, you could, but I'm not certain if the refresh rate would be affected or not. I believe you're correct, and it would drop it down to 75/60hz per monitor simply because it's 5k resolution. If it were (2) 4k 120hz monitors via TB4, it wouldn't be a problem.
Are there 2 Thunderbolt 4 upstream ports with Power Delivery? I want to connect 2 laptops with thunderbolt 4 as 2 inputs to the monitor. If so what is the Power Delivery in watts per port?
No, you'll only be able to power off of one of the TB ports unfortunately. One is 140w the other is just a daisy chain connector. I'm not sure you can connect 2 TB outputs at the same time either. You'd have to choose either hdmi or DP for the 2nd laptop to use in tandem.
How did you find this monitor in terms of ppi and clarity? I ordered the Dell U3425WE but I’m sending it back as the 108ppi offering made text slightly hazy which was really irritating to stare at all day. Curious if this monitor has any noticeable pixel definition when sitting at roughly a full arms length away?
The monitors sharpness and clarity (to read text and imagery) is phenomenal. Nothing is soft or blurry and at 5k 120Hz it looks tack sharp and vibrant. No issues with clarity that I've seen! (On mac or windows).
Currently using an Alienware AW3821DW and while I love it, a 5K2K resolution has been on my wish list since owning a 42" LG C2 and realizing it was just too big (and OLED, while beautiful, just isn't ideal for my productivity & editing workflow) but wanting that 2160 vertical resolution. I didn't think twice about the KVM switch, but having a Windows desktop and M1 MacBook Air, I think that will be super useful. I do video work for both my day job and my own company, so hearing you talk about Resolve was nice to hear! I saw you comment about G-SYNC Compatible, which isn't exactly what I wanted to hear, but with a 4090 as well, I think I'll be fine. How is text clarity in Windows? I don't have an issue with that currently (did on OLED, of course) but I know it can be touchy for Mac users, so was just curious what your overall impressions were on that? Thanks!
Clarity is great on both windows and mac, so no issues there! The KVM switch is honestly amazing and I love being able to easily swap from one platform to another with just a key press. 100% bonus in my books!
@@District7DrewGeraci Ahh that's good news! I can't really justify a $2,400 monitor right now but if it comes down closer to $1,500, I think I might grab it, as it really feels like the perfect monitor for me!
Hi Andrew. Thanks for a great short review. How would tou describe text on this monitor (under different circumstances)? Is it very sharp and clear and easy on the eyes after several hours? I do a lot of reading on my monitor and different kinds of writing, so text is very important.
Great video! I've been trying to work out how you have your two laptops setup in the 'Connectivity' section of the video. It looks like you have both the Dell and the MacBook connected to the monitor via a single cable - USB C? Are you getting the full benefit of charging and access to peripherals with that one cable on both laptops (depending on which laptop is selected)? If so that is exatly what I need so I'm hoping so, but until coming across this video I was beginning to get the impression it wasn't possible as the monitor seemed better suited for one laptop and a desktop setup (rather than two laptops) as I think there's only one thunderbolt upstream port!?
You can only have (1) OS hooked up to TB at the same time (and there's only 1 upstream TB connection anyway, but you can daisy chain off of it). The only way I could connect and operate both computers (with Windows and MacOS) was 1 computer on TB and 1 computer on HDMI + USB-C. That will allow you to use the hub on the monitor (and be seen by both systems, but you can only transfer to one system at a time). Hope that's helpful! I have a desktop and (2) laptops hooked up to it and LOVE it.
@@District7DrewGeraci That is very helpful, thank you! Just to check, do you have the 1 desktop and 2 laptops connected to the monitor all at once (obviously only being able to actually select one for use), or is it only ever up to any two of these computers?
Could you give us more details on KVM feature? Does it require software installation? Does it support hotkeys or do we have to switch it through monitor menu?
It requires Display Manager on both computers, and supports hotkey swaping, meaning you can swap systems directly from your keyboard. You don't have to press any buttons on the monitor or go into the menu system. The only downside is that you have to use (1) DP port and (1) HDMI port. If your using two computers that only use DP or HDMI then you can't use it without an adapter.
@@1stRanger It doesn't work without the software as you have to tell and label each computer within the software parameters to be able to use the hot-keys.
@@1stRanger That being said, I believe you can still hook up two different connections and manually swap screens by using the buttons and the mouse/keyboard will still work - it's just a pain in the butt.
Thanks for the review! Weird question...how low can the monitor sink down on the stand? Does it get close to desk/surface level? I'd have this monitor on a riser and I am looking to put a Logitech Brio webcam on top. The webcam might be a bit too high above my head. Thank you!
What about the RJ45 port? Can I use it to feed both connected notebooks Ethernet (via TB4 and/or USB?) at the same time? Or does the network switch like KVM? Would love to connect two Windows machines and have both connected via Ethernet no matter which one I am using currently.
_What is the vertical (height) of the just screen? Not the adjustable height?_ *Dig the amount of connections, especially the drop-down USB-A/C hub.* Thanx; Excellent & informative video!*👍👍
Excellently presented. We use quite a slew of monitors for forensic work. Getting a correct color setup with Pantone charts in the field through the workflow is paramount. I agree on the NITS - next gen likely.
I have the same monitor, I am having issue using external powered usb hub when I use the monitor with may MacBook Pro m2 via thunderbolt 4… no one of the items connected to the hub works (tried different hubs). On Windows instead everything works fine. Have you experienced same kind of issues?
Yes, it's the way that Apple sees the device (monitor) and I have the same issue. Windows allows you to see each of those ports as separate ports but Apple doesn't.
@@District7DrewGeraci I didn't know about this limitation from Apple... Consider that I previously had a Gigabyte M32U (KVM version) connected via USB-C to the MacBook with the same configuration, and everything worked fine, including the peripherals connected to powered USB hubs plugged into the monitor's downstream ports. It's annoying, especially after spending 1800 euros on a monitor. Do you know if there's a way to work around this limitation? I have 4 Stream Decks, an audio interface, a Loupedeck, as well as a mouse and keyboard, and I'd really like to use everything...
If the DisplayPort is already being used and I also want to connect a Dell laptop with Thunderbolt ports, would I just connect to the Thunderbolt port or would I need to use a Thunderbolt to HDMI 2.1 adapter? Or would I connect both the Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt/DPMI? Thanks.
@@District7DrewGeraci why/when would a TB4 to DPMI converter be needed? You might be able to do a video of different ways to connect computers with different video connection options to this monitor. I have no idea if that would be worth your time or if it would get views. I found the Dell documentation to be a bit sparse. Maybe I haven't read it properly. Also interesting that my old GTX 2060 does drive the monitor at 5K 120Hz. My Dell laptop has a 3060 which I would assume would be at least as good as the 2060. I looked around and could not find anything about 120 Hz for the 3060. And everything I found was for gamers. I am not using the monitor for games. Maybe I am the 1% of users. Thanks for your feedback. When I tell people what I paid for the monitor, they look at me odd. So far no friends have seen it in person. I really like it. Well worth it.
According to Dell website and their specification for this monitor it is not true 10 bit display. It's a 8bit + FRC. I'm affected by this FRC technology, unfortunately can't use it :(
I'm chatting with Dell now about this (because I believe it's true 10 bit+). The information you may have may belong to one of their other monitors in this same family (and all of the tech data gets smashed together on the same page). I'll get back to you shortly and let you know.
@@District7DrewGeraci Thanks! I did chat with their specialist and he was confused as well, but he double checked and confirmed my concern. For this price of the monitor it should be true 10bit, but unfortunately its not :(
I am in finance and am looking to upgrade my current Dell 38” curved monitor. I am guessing the clarity of text, graphs, etc is much improved? Or is there a better monitor for business applications? Thank you!
It's really in a category of its own considering it has both high refresh rates, high resolution, and full-color spectrum colorspaces. It's not as big or as curvy as the G9 but they're similar I guess. I think once you use one you'll see just how brilliant it is.
Just picked this monitor up! Do you have to change your resolution setting every time you start editing? Keeping in on 5K makes the normal desktop so tiny. Also I’m connecting an M1 Mac but the options max out at 60hz?
Hi! Great review! Can you please specify which TB4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter you use to get 5k@120hz from mac? I’m having trouble finding one that seems to support that specific res/framerate… 😮
@@eriknordin3032 there are no adapters that will say or qualify '5k at 120Hz' but it works. I also don't use 120Hz on my Mac because apple has put on software blocks to prevent it (which is why M1/2 can't use 120Hz but M3 can).
Ok! Thanks for that clarification! My plan was to pair this monitor with a mac studio max m2. But if there are software limitations preventing 120hz with the m2 chip it seems like a bad idea. 😢

Great review. Possibly a silly question, but do you think TB4 to Hdmi 2.1 would give me 120 Hz from M2 iPad Pro? If so, would I also be able to use KVM feature or is it only available with TB4 to TB4 connection? It would be somewhat disappointing to have 120 Hz vs KVM feature dilemma
I have the predecessor to this monitor the U4021QW which is a very good monitor - however this update addresses most if not all of the shortcomings of the previous version. I was thinking of buying a second monitor, I may just save up and get one of these.
I saw a review first on Dave''s Garage RUclips. He loves it. Decided to buy it. I like it. I have it attached to a monitor arm attached to my Uplift desk. Very stable that way. I didn't think much about the USB ports but now find them very useful. It uses one 10Gbs USB uplink to run the ports so good performance. My display card is an older GForce GTX 2060 Super. Plugged in the monitor with Display Port. Windows 10 automatically had it at the full resolution and 120hz. No hassle. I haven't tried adjusting any display details. To be clear, I just plugged in the power cord, Display Port cable and USB 3.2 Gen 2 A to C cable. And it was all working. I don't do gaming. Play guitar.
@@xenio8736 Yes. Windows 10 is reporting full res and 120Hz. The 2060 super is in a Dell computer from I think 2019. I did read a spec for it that said it could do that with DisplayPort which is what I am using. I also have a 2nd 4K monitor connected with HDMI that cannot run at the 4K. That one is at 60Hz at a lower resolution. It is hard to find the specs for the 2060 super regarding what resolution and refresh rate it can do. Somehow I found the specs a long time ago. Before I bought the monitor, I confirmed with Dell sales in a chat that I could return it if it did not work for me. I plugged it in and it automatically worked at the highest resolution and refresh. I didn't have to adjust anything. It is probably important to use the DisplayPort connection. Pricey. But, glad I bought it. When I first saw the RUclips about the monitor I was also thinking it would not work with my older computer. I was skeptical until I plugged it in and turned it on. It is great to see a photo spread across the whole screen in high res with great color. Performance is great for what I do. I don't play games. If you get one post a reply with your experience.
I use and love the older version of this monitor, the U4021QW, but this would be an ideal upgrade for me, improving on everything that isn't currently perfect.
Does this thing have local dimming in the HDR mode? I almost hope not (or that it can be deactivated), because it would just be edge-lit... Also, does this have any sort of pixel response time / overdrive controls? No idea if professional monitors normally have that, I guess not...?
Hey thanks so much for the quick replies! Maybe I will actually buy this thing to ascend from puny 1440p/110ppi to glorious 2160p/140ppi 😁 Still a tough choice because I currently have a mini led monitor and I would miss "real" HDR. You get full 5k/120Hz on both DP and HDMI. If you're planning on doing a KVM between 2 machines, you HAVE to use both though as there aren't dual DP or HDMI ports.
@@District7DrewGeraci good to know Andrew. Follow up question: if I connect one PC to HDMI and the other to the DP, do they both also need to be connected with a USB cable (to "see" the mouse and keyboard)?
There really isn't a huge curve radius on this monitor. It's quite subtle. No more than a couple of degrees. It's not like other ultra-widescreens that wrap around you and have a huge noticeable curve. It's why I love this one so much, haha.
@@District7DrewGeraciThat likely implies that it is using Display Stream Compression (DSC), since DP 1.4 is capped at 32.4 Gbps (e.g., even 4K@10bit HDR would be limited to max. 98Hz uncompressed/without DSC).
Thanks for an excellent and concise review. Is it bright enough for ordinary business use or is there a better 40-45 inch curved monitor for my pedestrian needs which do not include gaming? Nope, it's a great monitor and the DP 1.4 is perfect for 5k 120Hz playback. I haven't had any issues with it but there's really no reason it would need anything else; the only reason the next version of DP 2.1 would be viable or necessary is if you were trying to run higher bandwidth monitors, exceeding 500Hz refresh rates... which this monitor definitely won't do, ha. Thanks for watching and I think you'll be happy in your purchase!!
Great video. Couple of quick questions: 1) Does the 120hz rate work on a Mac? Sometimes I've seen Mac not play well with it 2) How does the KVM work with bluetooth peripherals? Example, I plan on connecting two MacBook Pro's to this, but would love to just use my one Magic Keyboard and Logitech bluetooth mouse.
Great questions! Most of the apple computers can't handle the 5k at 120hz, but the studio and MacBook ultra can from my testing. You can do 5k at 60hz though without issue. As for the KVM you can use Bluetooth adapters however I've found that a wired keyboard works best but no issues with a wireless mouse for both. Hope that's helpful!
I don't agree at all. If it had FALD or any type of mini-LED backlighting it would likely cost $1500-2000 more than what it's currently at. Would I want it in this monitor, Absolutely. Would it be cost-prohibited? Absolutely.
@@District7DrewGeraciWell, as for me, the current RRP of $2500 for a screen without proper local dimming already is at the cost-prohibited end of the spectrum ;). Of course I agree that the monitor is still nice as-is, just somewhat overpriced from my perspective. And anyways, thanks for sharing the video.
@@DrBenify absolutely! I have it connected to an older RTX 2060 super in a Dell XPS 8930. Works great at the 5K and 120Hz. I read the spec for that video card before I bought it. The card can handle even higher pixel numbers than the monitor at 120Hz. It is easy to find the specs for the NVidia video card models.
@@District7DrewGeraci I am using a RTX 2060 super. Windows 10 tells me it is at full resolution and 120Hz. The specs for the 2060 video card also say it will handle the resolution at 120Hz. The proof is that it is working fine at the full capability of the monitor.
Thank you for your response. I plan to use the screen mostly for programming and 20% games. Screen estate is important for me, so I want to be sure that I can read comfortable at 100% scaling.
For those interested in this monitor: please be aware that this monitor seems to suffer from a production issue where affected panels are damaged with scratches over the entire width of the monitor. I went through multiple replacements, but 3/3 monitors (all produced May '24) suffered from this issue in varying degrees. My model from July '24 does not have any scratches, but does have some green bleed at the bottom part of the monitor. Not really the kind of quality control issues you expect from a top-of-the-line monitor meant for video editing.

@@District7DrewGeraci It isn't, why are you lying? Are you paid by Dell or something? 5ms is G2G switch time and it is not something related to refresh rate, which is identifier of how frequently color change signals are being pushed to pixels.

Thanks!
Yes it has Gsync and it works great for 120hz playback for games. I love it personally!!
Hey Simon! Thanks for watching! It doesn't have Apple's definition of HiDPI at 5k, but it's actually better. The 5k resolution and standard DPI work great with M3 and M4 chips. The sharpness and clarity of the text looks great, better than 'retina'!

Does it support adaptive sync (FreeSync)? If you have an Nvidia GPU, a G-Sync Compatible option will show in the NV control panel if it is capable.

@ only 2 is possible with data transfer. I usually have a laptop and my desktop hooked up or my two desktops hooked up through KVM.
@@District7DrewGeraci You actually tested and can assure on 100% that KVM doesn't work without software installation?
@@1stRanger It doesn't work without the software as you have to tell and label each computer within the software parameters to be able to use the hot-keys.

Coolest freaking monitor on the market right now. great review!
I have the predecessor to this monitor the U4021QW which is a very good monitor - however this update addresses most if not all of the shortcomings of the previous version. I was thinking of buying a second monitor, I may just save up and get one of these.
I too have the previous version as well and this one finally has everything I've always wanted! The new usb hub is a lifesaver too, ha.
I think you'll really enjoy it too!!
Sounds right!
Wait, how come you have 120Hz and full resolution with a 2060 super ? I got the same GPU but thought it was impossible

It's a great monitor and definitely worth getting!
Can i Get the 5k 120hz via the power delivery Connect? I Like to have one cable connected.
No, it's only available through DP 1.4 or HDMI 2.1
Does this thing have local dimming in the HDR mode? I almost hope not (or that it can be deactivated), because it would just be edge-lit...
Also, does this have any sort of pixel response time / overdrive controls? No idea if professional monitors normally have that, I guess not...?
It doesn't have local dimming to my knowledge and you do have the choice between normal and fast response time in correlation to the refresh rate.
Hey thanks so much for the quick replies! Maybe I will actually buy this thing to ascend from puny 1440p/110ppi to glorious 2160p/140ppi 😁

@@District7DrewGeraci Is that 5120x2160@120Hz at 10bit/HDR or only at 8bit/SDR?
@@DrBenify it's 120hz/10bit at 5k
@@District7DrewGeraciThat likely implies that it is using Display Stream Compression (DSC), since DP 1.4 is capped at 32.4 Gbps (e.g., even 4K@10bit HDR would be limited to max. 98Hz uncompressed/without DSC).
Thanks for an excellent and concise review. Is it bright enough for ordinary business use or is there a better 40-45 inch curved monitor for my pedestrian needs which do not include gaming? I will be pairing it to a Del Latitude 9420 laptop and mostly running Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Thanks.
It's definitely bright enough - peak nits is around 500 and it's great for both business and gaming.
I've been eyeing for Dell to refresh their 2021 model for a while to a higher refresh rate, and I've been watching this specific model for a while. I think I'll order it. If the sun was behind you through the window, how does the 600 nits perform?
The sun would have been on my left, but the 600 (when at peak brightness) is fantastic for any indoor situation you might have. I wouldn't recommend (any) monitor be placed in direct sunlight though, regardless of nits. Thanks for watching and I think you'll love this new monitor!!
Is a dell latitude 7440 compatible with U4025QW?
What is the model of the side screens you have?
I would not be surprised if Dell soon offers a QDOLED version of this monitor
Maybe!! It could probably work since the curve isn't too terrible on this monitor.
Hi. I have windows laptop with RTX 3080 and USB 3.2 Gen 2 type-C with DisplayPort 1.4. Will it support this monitor at 5K and 120 Hz. Thank you!
Yes, theoretically it will.
I've only tried it on 4080 and 4090 workstations though; the 3090 I have has also worked.
I have an older RTX 2060. Works fine at 5K and 120 Hz using DisplayPort. I don't do gaming. The 3080 should be fine.
Can you use the thunderbolt 4 as data upstream to use the usb connectors ?
@@12Burton24 I'm not understanding your question - can you articulate it a bit better?
@@District7DrewGeraci Because of one letter too much you are unable to understand it? Im sorry try to make the question easier: Is the Thunderbolt upstream there to make a data connection for the USB downstream ports or do you have to connect a usb cable on the upstream for the usb downstream ports.
@@12Burton24 Yes, you have to connect one of the USB-C ports to your PC to have functionality in the other ports to non-monitor devices (as is common in every other monitor out there). Thunderbolt works as both a monitor type and data type so as long as there is a TB connection to your computer.
@@District7DrewGeraci but is it possible to just use the thunderbolt and get a data connection on the USBs of the monitor or can you just use thunderbolt devices and no usb devices if just thunderbolt is connected
@@12Burton24 You must plug in one of the USB-C connections and link it to the computer to active the other (4) USB connections on the monitor. If you wish you use the Thunderbolt you can only do so with the monitor inputs (it does not activate data for the USB ports). The thunderbolt is really only used for daisychaining monitors and not for data (but it still may be possible, but I haven't tried it).
Is the screen matte or glossy?
Choosing between QD Oled and this one…
It's matte - if you can check it out in stores before buying that's probably the best way to figure it out ;) I personally love it!
I'm not sure how my work laptops would display. I'm not sure Intel integrated graphics could push more than 4k? I need PIP also with 2 hdmi. So not enough ports like my dell u 3818dw
You'll be able to get 4k 60p without and issues, but you may run into issues for 4k 120p.
I must be the only video editor who doesn't do gaming. I'm looking into this display after my Mac Studio Display blew up in front of me. I just wish Dell would send me out a evaluation model as I see so many other getting. Your lucky to get free product, this display isn;t cheap in Oz. But hey neither is a Mac Studio Display.
Do you have a preferred TB4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter to get the 120Hz working on Mac? I have a M3 Pro and this monitor is looking really good for my needs...
I don't have a specific brand that I use (I found a generic adapter on Amazon) and it works fine.
MBP M1 Pro will not output 120hz via TB4, it seems limited to 60hz. The new MBP M3 will do full 5k@120hz via TB4
@@danclark3664 thunderbolt 4 doesn't support 5k at 120hz, you'll need a Tb4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter to get it to work.
@@District7DrewGeraci I can confirm the M3 pro will output 5120x2160@120hz through a single TB4 cable from the monitor to the MBP. I also have a M1 Pro which only does 60hz and I was a bit disappointed at that considering it's the same 40Gb/s bandwidth.
@@danclark3664 that seems very strange; I don't have an M3 but I'm not sure what would make it any better than the M1 or M2 in this situation since it's still the same connection.
Can it use TB4 to TB4 cable connect to mac studio and get 120hz?
thanks.
No, thunderbolt wont do 5k 120hz unfortunately. You'll have to buy an hdmi 2.1 adapter.
Studio display vs U4025QW for max 5K (only judging by how displays look) experience?
Because of if it really scales perfectly with a Mac, 120 Hz, both 600 nits, and bigger. Sounds like a good buy.
I love it on both my Windows and Mac PCs. 5k looks fantastic on my MBP, you just have to buy a TB4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter to get the 120Hz to work.
how long is your table?! I'm looking into this monitor and I currently have the Dell U2723QE
The monitor is showcased on a 5ft wide table. I use it though on a 9ft wide desk.
How is it with a PS5? Any lag? Can games do 120fps?
Games doing 120fps is up to the PS5, not the monitor. It has HDMI 2.1 so if the game supported it then yeah it could do 120fps from the PS5
Can i run lower res in games and have it look good still or is it going to skew the overall picture
You can run in a 2k mode but it doesn't necessarily look that great considering how large the monitor is. It's definitely meant to be viewed in 5k.
are you sure this is 100% Adobe RGB?, I don see this at Dell's web site
Nice review. I think im gonna pull the trigger on this as i believe it’s the best non-oled monitor to pair with my m3max macbook pro. Lurking reddit and some people mentioned that display port 1.4 is kind of lame for the price tag? Im not a tech person, is this a big deal?
Nope, it's a great monitor and the DP 1.4 is perfect for 5k 120Hz playback. I haven't had any issues with it but there's really no reason it would need anything else; the only reason the next version of DP 2.1 would be viable or necessary is if you were trying to run higher bandwidth monitors, exceeding 500Hz refresh rates... which this monitor definitely won't do, ha. Thanks for watching and I think you'll be happy in your purchase!!
Thanks man!
Great video. Couple of quick questions:
1) Does the 120hz rate work on a Mac? Sometimes I've seen Mac not play well with it
2) How does the KVM work with bluetooth peripherals? Example, I plan on connecting two MacBook Pro's to this, but would love to just use my one Magic Keyboard and Logitech bluetooth mouse.
Great questions! Most of the apple computers can't handle the 5k at 120hz, but the studio and MacBook ultra can from my testing. You can do 5k at 60hz though without issue. As for the KVM you can use Bluetooth adapters however I've found that a wired keyboard works best but no issues with a wireless mouse for both. Hope that's helpful!
@@District7DrewGeraci Did you test if the M1 Macbook can handle it? Thanks for your reply.

DP over USB C is supported?
For that price tag and specs it certainly lacks a proper (i.e., FALD instead of cheap edge-lit) backlight.
(Let's see what LG and/or Philips come up with; after all they already use the same panel, just with less Hz, in some of their monitors which are ~$1000 cheaper.) And anyways, thanks for sharing the video.
@@DrBenify absolutely! I'm sure LG or another manufacturer will put out something similar, however, it really comes down to the color science and replication which LG usually lacks in its less expensive monitors. The U4025QW is by no means meant for 'common' people to use; it's definitely profession-driven and meant to be a pro-monitor for those who need the color spaces. I appreciate you watching and excited to see what you might get yourself!
Are you sure about 100% Adobe RGB gamut? Maybe you profiled the monitor... Thanks
Yes it's 100% adobe RGB
Is it a matte display or glossy display???
It's a matte display - the colors look amazing for not being OLED!
great review! does dell have a program where they send out free monitors?
I'm equally confused
Ha no, they don't have a program. I've just been working with Dell for the last 5 or 6 years to help improve their monitors for creative professionals (through my work in TV/Film).
Does the text look sharp when using a Mac?
It does 🎉
Doesn’t this have a 6ms response time, where did 2-3 come from?
Yes, at 5k 60hz the response time is 6ms. At 120Hz its between 2-3.

Thats a great monitor that I plan to purchase. However, I am a little in doubt what cpu and gpu specifications that are required for a Windows PC in order to achieve 5K resolution @120Hz refresh rate. Do you have any input in that regard? Even Dell technical support agent wasn't sure if the newest XPS 14 could support the mentioned resolution and refresh rate. :-)
You'll need a Nvidia RTX 3080 or better. I have the 4090 and it works great!
@@District7DrewGeraci is this GPU recommendation mentioned somewhere on the official website?
@@Indra_Ninja no not to my knowledge but realistically any GPU that can support the refresh rate can be used. Otherwise it would just default to 60fps.

Looks really nice! How is the response time for gaming? The website says 5ms (what isn't the best for gaming I think).
It's 5ms for 4k 60hz and around 2ms at 5k 120hz which is pretty solid. I'm loving it for Warzone and Hell Divers 2!
If your brain is able to distinguish between single frames or identify stuttering on a 180Hz rendering, then 5ms response time might be not fast enough for you, otherwise it's fine - which might be the case for 99.99999999999% of all people.
@@District7DrewGeraci It isn't, why are you lying? Are you paid by Dell or something? 5ms is G2G switch time and it is not something related to refresh rate, which is identifier of how frequently color change signals are being pushed to pixels.
Hey @District7DrewGeraci, re the KVM switch, all documentation says it can switch between 2 devices, but is it possible to switch between 3 inputs like it was with the U3818DW?
No, 2 would be the max. There aren't enough DP/HDMI ports on the back of the monitor to support a 3rd workstation, unfortunately.
Can you Switch accessories like an audio interface too? Or only keyboard and mouse?
This is one of the very few monitors that will let me power my Dell Precision via the Thunderbolt cable since it requires 130W of power from the cable. I really wish there were a few cheaper options though. This is a hefty chunk of money and I don’t really need 5k but for a wide monitor with good color range and features and has the power needs there is nothing else that compares.
