    In 1999 I was in college and constantly wondering why nobody did a remix of the Lazy Jones soundtrack, and I was so happy that Zombie Nation suddenly appeared and became so popular; it's like they read my mind.

    • @bjrnen8505
      @bjrnen8505 6 лет назад +46

      @@martinDoesTrash It's no secret Zombie Nation enjoyed this little tune from the game. Most tunes in the game are licensed covers, but some are original songs by David Whittaker, including this tune. So ZN called David Whittaker, told him they really like the song, that they wanted to remix it or whatever and that they like to buy it. They didn't offer much but instead let Whittaker know he'd definitely lose if he take the case to court. So now the remix is played around the world, Zombie Nation has a major hit in their hands and no one knows about David Whittaker. OR Zombie Nation broke in to his home and stole the song in the middle of the night. ...

      no lol. ZN copied it plain and simple. David heard it and called ZN, he said he wanted about 8000 deutsche marks (3-4000 euros) or he would sue them. They agreed and it was settled. So yea ZN "stole" a tune from a video game and called their own.

    • @BiggusNickus
      @BiggusNickus 2 года назад +20

      It's a bit counter-intuitive really. A lot of the classic and widely-recognized videogame themes came from the '80s and '90s, the reason being that there were many limitations like you said, so they had to make whatever they had work. Hence, you'd hear lots more memorable melodies from that era. Modern videogame music has more instruments to work with so they may often sound impressive but they just don't hit that sweet spot you'd see with older games.

    Yes, ZN paid for the rights to use the tune...
    AFTER he was threatened with court action by David Whittaker.
    David was happy enough for it to be used, but not without attribution. I like the tune, instantly recognising its origin the first time I heard it, but he really did steal it and was caught out so had to pay.

      +This Name Was Available The difference between Kernkraft 400 and Stardust is like the difference between Sam Smith's "Stay With Me" and Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down", i.e. they're the exact same thing melodically.
      The difference between Stardust and Electronic Ensemble's "It Happened Then" is like the difference between Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" and Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give It Up": The latter clearly influenced the former in a big way, but it's not plagiarism, even if a court says so.

    I know David Whittaker sued Zombie Nation, but I am not completely aware about this, but the one game in this game called 99 Red Balloons uses the same beat as the song...I dont know if Nena sued Whittaker or if he got permission. If he didnt, it would be poetic justice.

    Didn't She Bangs by Ricky Martin use a similar chant (to the melody of this) near the end?

    Anyone know if there's a sort of "de-make" of the Kernkraft 400 song that has the drum and bass and cymbals and all that but with with this sawtooth melody instead of the synthesized melody that's in the song? The sawtooth wave just gives me way more satisfaction.

    THIS is the original, Zombie Nation covered their song Kernkraft 400 from this one. This game is from 1984 the song you think of is from 1999... So dont ever say again that Zombie Nation has the original... This song was composed by David Whittaker!!!
    Zombie Nation are the thieves here...
