- Welcome to the second installment of a Q&A with a Bath & Body Works manager! I have worked at a Bath & Body Works for six years and was one of the part time managers, so today I will be spilling the tea! I asked what some of your burning questions were about the company, so in this video I will be answering them! Stay tuned because there will be a third installment next week. Definitely had one, multiple times. I worked at a high theft volume store. One time the asm grabbed the basket from the man and they struggled back and forth he then went and made a move as if he was going to hit her, took my pepper spray out and he quickly let go of the basket then ran out. Another time this lady dropped candles on the floor after stealing a basket full and I was picking them up, she then comes up to me with a candle like she’s going to hit me with it, at that point it was do or die (my train of thought) so I grabbed one and kinda flinched it at her. The most recent one was a customer who repeatedly called me racial slurs (she was black) I was prepared to be fired and proceeded to give her the same medicine. It can get CRAZY!
Geez Louise! That should not be happening! 😰 I'm sorry you experienced that while just trying to work! You'd think a scented lotion store would be more of a calm sort of place to be...not somewhere that induces such stress and aggression! 😣

My all time fav body care scent is Country Apple! I love all the older 90's scents..they were the BEST!! Sunripened Raspberry, Juniper Breeze, Peach Nectar, Pearberry. 🥰🥰🥰

My favorite is strawberry vanilla. It was discontinued. I wish they bring it back. When I wear it I get many compliments. I only have a little left.
Is that the Bourbon Strawberry & Vanilla? That one is so pretty! Strawberry Poundcake is along those lines, but definitely a different vibe! I hope they bring it back for you to stock up on someday! 🍓

Marshmallow pumpkin latte is my all time favorite and I use it at least twice a week no matter what time of the year. I’m a 72 year old guy. My girlfriend likes it also.
It is one of their best! Nothing beats a good Marshmallow-Caramelly fragrance! That is awesome! Everyone can enjoy Bath & Body Works! 😊

You started working around the same time as me. So, what are your thoughts on the job so far?
@Sara Ohlinger I only worked there for two months. I had a lot of fun! After semi-annual sale they cut everyones hours down to one day a week unless you were working there for the past couple of years. I tried to hang on for another month in hopes that they would give me more hours but after not getting scheduled I decided to do the right thing for me and find a more consistent job.
There was a scent one Christmas called Chocolate Amber that was I believe limited edition that was absolutely to die for!!
I've never heard of that one before! Sounds very unique! 😊 I wonder if they will ever bring something like it back one day.
Yes!!! I had forgotten about that one. I think I loved ever scent in the chocolate line-up!
Hard core bbw fan here, going on 15+ years! I’ve thankful for their exchange policy, I stock up during really good sales ($5.95 all body care, $12.95 all candles etc) I’ll buy 10-12 CORE items every sale, then 2-3 weeks go by and I’ll exchange them items for new released items. No issues!

Yesss! That's what I do..Buy signature scents so when I exchange, no loss to Bbw because its not an out of season product.🙂

Good choices! I would like to try some Bonfire Bash if/when it comes back. I smelled it a number of times while working in store but never bought any! I hear lots of people love it! 😍 Have you gotten a chance to smell the new (was old, but they brought it back) Beach Nights? I smelled it in store the other day and liked it. It’s on the list lol. Along with Firecracker Pop and a few others. Now the decision is, Do I wait for SAS or bite the bullet and get it now? Choices. BBW always comes out with something I just have to have lol. 😋
I'm waiting for SAS to get mine ❤ But I don't want to. LOL! Oh yes, Firecracker Pop is on my list this year...I liked smelling it in store last year but didn't prioritize getting any. This year I'm ready for it though. Along with the Pink Watermelon Blast or Burst or whatever it's called! Hahaha I can afford to wait because my store is small enough that I'm sure there will be plenty left at that time. Maybe they'll go on a special SAS deal too. 👀 But if your store sells out of stuff fast, body care is buy 3 get 3 free today which when you think about it is technically 50% off...😏💸
Yeah but if i was gonna do that then I should have done it yesterday and gotten a free 3 wick lol. The only way I’ll jump early is if they have a body care day. I have like 5 BBW’s within 20 miles of me so I’m not too worried about them running out of product. I’m trying to slow down on my fragrance addiction too, lmao. I already have more FFM’s than I can use in a lifetime but than they come out with something I just have to get my nose on lol. I give BBW credit because they definitely know how to market to the masses and encourage buying and they come out with new stuff so often. 😋

I have the one in my town, then the next closest is 45 minutes away, then after that the closest would be many hours! I was excited because while on a road trip to visit family I got to go to my very first White Barn store! 😍 It was so cool! It's so true...BBW knows exactly what they are doing to us! 🤣 I just saw sneak previews of stuff coming for semi annual sale and I have to get all of them! They are all themed on carnival treats and that's totaly up my alley!

Blackberry vanilla was my absolute favorite scent, it was what I wore when I met my husband and he was crazy about how good I smelled. We’ve been together 16 years now, and even though I have many many perfumes/body sprays, he always says they just aren’t as good as Blackberry vanilla

My signature Christmas is hot cocoa its my all time favorite for Christmas. Fall is champagne honey apple for fall. My signature scent would be pink chiffon. However, im in love with Beach nights. Im going it comes back next year. My all time favorite is the hot cocoa and cream.

I’m new to Bath & Body Works, so my favorite is Champagne Sprinkles. I got it as a Christmas gift and fell in love with it. I’ve tried finding a similar scent or just changing my scent completely, but nothing compares to it.
Ah yes! I hope it makes a resurface so you can stock back up on your favorite! I assume you've tried Champagne Toast? That's the classic champagne that BBW normally carries year-round! 🥂🌸 If I remember what Champagne Sprinkles smells like correctly, It's more sweet than Champagne Toast, while that one is more citrusy-tart.
Love cotton candy champagne that came out this past winter reminds me of champagne sprinkles💕 i hope they do bring it back tho cuz that was a raspberry icing fragrance. It was the bomb!!!
My all time favorite scents are Vanilla Bean Noel, Cotton Candy Champagne, and Strawberry Poundcake but I'm loving their Enchanted Candy Potion

Last Halloween, they made travel size glitter mists in the fragrance Vampire Blood as well as travel size shower gel and body lotion! I wonder if they will do that again for Halloween this year! 🤞🦇

YES! I love fresh apple scents. Also going way back to the Art Stuff collection they had I think it was Electric Apple or something like that, and as a kid I had this cute little bottle of shower gel and it had a cool red skinny nozzle and full size beads (like the kind that you get in kits to make bracelets in the 90s/2000s) suspended in the gel. I stared in awe at that bottle as a kid so much...I wonder if that was the beginnings of my BBW obsession! 🤣

I still have my Charmin Cherry roll on glitter! 🍒 I obsessively used a yellow one as a kid that was Pineapple Punch or something like that...I must have used it up because I don't have it anymore! 😥 YES bath beads! I don't remember any BBW specific ones, but actually just the other day I was wanting to do a fun 90s/2000s themed routine and get all sorts of products I used to use back then. I tried looking online for some and only found one kind that looked kinda sketchy. I used to get them from a local drugstore/toy shop and they were all different colors and shapes. Hearts, stars, animals, etc...and filled with bath oil! What ever happened to those?
@@MelissaC they turned into bath bombs 🤣🤣 sadly. I think bath beads were better and i had a store right across the street that sold them for i think 25 cents.

My favourite is Thousand Wishes … I only checked it out a few weeks ago and it’s great. Second place is Snowy orange citrus when it was out I love that too so yeah that is it for me !
A Thousand Wishes is such a pretty scent, love it! 🤩 Oh I really liked Snowy Citrus Swirl too, and I feel bad that I slept on it and didn't grab any! I did grab some of the Orange Vanilla Twist from this Summer Sale that's going on right now and it reminds me of it a bit, but more vanilla. 🍊 BBW needs orange scents more often!

When they were phasing them out bought tons. More conditioners but bought as much but as I could. Since it's part of bath - body.. iJust don't get why they completely got rid of that line.

Haha well thanks for checking out my video! 😊 Oh yeah! I know wayyy back in the day they used to do shampoo and conditioner more often in different fragrances. Then there was a phase where there were none except for supplying it to hotels (I snatched a few to keep from a hotel myself 🤣) and then they only had them available in the aromatherapy collection. Then just recently in the last year or two, they briefly brought them back in a few of their signature scents...and then poof! Gone again! 🤦♀️ I don't know why they're being so indecisive about shampoo and conditioner! 🤣 Which scent was your favorite?
@@MelissaC ya know, I tried what was available at the time & everything seemed pretty much the same other than the scents so I used whatever was available.
@@charleyanne That makes sense...I hope they bring them back sometime. If I've learned anything about BBW, they love to takeaway products, rebrand, and bring it back so one day they'll appear again I'm sure!

Yes! Love your gourmand body care ideas and definitely the coffee! I have the Vanilla Mocha one because it’s as close to a coffee body care scent as we have, but you’re right about it being slightly floral. Definitely authentic coffee with a chocolate note would be amazing! ☕️🍫 ❤️
Yes, I decided that if they bring back the Vanilla Mocha I will probably grab some regardless of that floral note because I really want to fill that void in my collection where a yummy coffee scent should be. 😂 Upon reflection, I do remember a handful of years ago they had one called White Mocha Kiss and it was fine, but weak...not enough chocolate or coffee... Just boring steamed milk scent! Hahaha it wasn't terrible, just left me wanting something else. I want it to be like Hot Cocoa & Cream mixed with the candle Paris Cafe or Whipped Espresso. ☕🍫 I'd be okay with the other note in it being orange instead of them trying to keep putting florals in it too! 😍

Yes agreed...I swear some of my coworkers thought I was partially deaf because I used to have to ask them to repeat themselves so much that I was starting to get embarrassed. But with all of the music going, my brain was already full and it sometimes made it hard to focus, and even hear. Many a times when I opened the store I would "forget" to turn on the music. (sometimes, with quotation marks, sometimes I did genuinely forget 🤣) then the closer would come in and be like "Is it...awkwardly quiet in here?" and I'd be like "Oh yeah...that's why I can hear my thoughts for once!"

The candles are the best out their in my opinion. I'm more of a candle girl than body care I have the ones i use all the time. Twisted peperment is my favorite holiday scent . I also really love the vannila bean noel body lotion I love the slight carmel smell in it 😁
I love their candles...I used to use Yankee before I knew about Bath & Body Works candles, and once I tried BBW I never went back! 😍 I just can't believe how many scents they make...endless options for every mood! Twisted Peppermint is one of the best candles, I agree! I've burned it so many Christmases in a row now that I smell it and it makes me so nostalgic. 🍬 Good choices! Vanilla Bean Noel is way better than Warm Vanilla Sugar in my opinion because of that caramel note you mentioned!

Hi Jenny! Thanks for watching! 😊 I'm glad you like them. Oh yes, then I bet you're glad that the Marshmallow Beach Nights is back in stock! I know I need to grab me a bottle of it! I remember selling it when it came out the first time. 😁 Those are all great scents, and they all go well together! Vanillas/Marshmallows/ Gourmands are so yummy! 🧁 Thanks again!
My favorite scents for warm weather months are Strawberry Pound Cake, Watermelon Lemonade, Sweet Pea, and Endless Weekend. My favorite scents for cool weather months are Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin, Champagne Apples and Honey, Spiced Gingerbread Swirl, and the Comfort Aromatherapy line, which I believe is discontinued.
I love all of those! 😍 Thankfully those are a lot of scents that come back every now and then so you don't ever run out permanently. 😊 Yeah, the body care of Comfort is discontinued but thankfully it still is available in home fragrance and was repackaged in body care as "Restful Moon" so maybe it will be one that comes and goes!
And my question is: What is Candle Day like?? What is the preparation like and how is it to work the sale?
The best way I can describe it is exhausting organized chaos. LOL! Depends on store size, but at my store, all managers/keyholders usually work 9+ hour shifts that day, and everyone else, including people that are normally just floorset crew work 5-8 hours that day. I almost can't even use last year's candle day as an example because it was an extremely disappointing turn out...the quietest candle day I've ever seen! 🤦♀️ But normally, there are lines leading out of our store and all the way down the mall and out the mall doors too.
To prepare, they send so many extra candles in shipment, so even in the weeks prior we are busy processing hundreds of candles behind the scenes. Last year, they sent over 500 Mahogany Teakwood candles (and I'm in a small store) and it was insane even just trying to find space for them in our backroom/offsite! In the days leading up to candle day/weekend, we have mini floorsets to transform a few extra tables to hold candles. Normally in the walls and tables we stack candles 2-3 high, but we put out extra candles by stacking them 4-5 high.
We save the cardboard crates that they come in and stage them all around the store: next to tables, at the entrance of the store, and at the cash registers so that people can use them to shop and keeps it easy to pack them into bags for the customers when they purchase. A lot of work goes into the schedule too. Since we have the most employees working that day, we have to schedule all 30 minute meal breaks and 15 minute breaks essentially to the minute, and make sure that there is always a manager on top of sending people to lunch so that we have maximum coverage at all times. There is a team of replenishers that keep track of when a wall or table is breaking (breaking = not enough product to support having a full and abundant looking display), and they make plans on what to put in place of the missing product, and how they are going to do it discretely without disrupting the flow of shopping traffic. People in the back rooms will push boxes of product onto carts and others will take those carts and fill the store back up whilst customers are shopping. It's all very busy, but it definitely is one of the most satisfying days to work! I'll have the go over this one in another Q&A sometime! 😊 Thanks for your question!

Hard question, but I'm going to have to say, based on the amount of product I have, that my favorite body care scent is Twisted Peppermint. Festive at Christmas, but the peppermint has a nice cooling effect in summer. A question I have is that do staff generally buy too much and hoard B&BW products like some of us superfans do. Hi Diana! Twisted Peppermint is definitely high up there for me too on the favorites list. I wear the body care every year in the Winter, and burning that scent in a candle is one of the best! 🍬 I'd say that BBW employees often can be super shoppers as well, especially the more long term employees. Since we see the sales coming and going, the exciting new fragrances, and our job is to literally talk to customers about the benefits of the body care and the yummy-ness of the candle scents, I know at the end of a shift I've pretty much convinced not only customers but also myself that I need these products! 🤣 For me, even though I collect and have a larger-than-your-average-person stash, I do also gift out TONS of products to family and friends, so what happens to be in my stash rotates pretty fast rather than hoarding old products. (But yeah, there is some hoarding of vintage things that I now can't part with too) I can go into this more in depth in another Q&A sometime but I hope that helps answer your question!

Yes!!! I loved making displays but we never had enough hours and we always had call outs. How many times can you tell an associate to make the wall page look exactly like the page?!? 😂
So true! It's like...if I only had a couple more hours this would have been perfect! 😵 I was always annoyed when I'd have to hear about how the floorset wasn't perfect when we got out on time, but on the other side would always have to hear about how we went over hours when we did execute it perfectly. It's like I CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH PEOPLE! 🤣 I remember even asking my manager some nights when I'd get fed up like, "Fine, which do you prefer, get out on time or the tables and walls be completely perfect because with these amount of hours and this set of people (usually all people who have done it 2 times or less) we can't do both!" 🤷♀️ In my opinion I thought it was better to get out on time and if there was something that didn't get done (assuming it's just little details of course) just let the opening crew take care of it since we usually would stand around kinda bored during the first hour or two of operation anyway!

Haha Well if you ever interested in a hobby-level job, most BBWs will hire just for floorset crew (1-3x per month, after hours) or seasonal help during the holidays. I know my store even hired people literally just to work Black Friday and Candle Day and that's it! 😉 Other than those positions it's a good call to not work there if you have another job just because the sales associates up to managers positions get pretty demanding schedule-wise. 😖

How heavy are most boxes? Was wondering because I thought about getting a part time job there.
Some of the largest boxes were shower gels, hand soaps, and 3-wick candles. If I remember correctly, I think the big boxes of shower gels held 36 of them, so roughly 25 pounds. Hand soaps 27 pounds, and candles come in single tray boxes or what I call double deckers which has 2 trays. Single tray is six candles, so about 12 pounds, double deckers would be 24 pounds.
I wouldn't let it stop you because if you can't lift for long amounts of time because of an injury or condition, there are coworkers to help and carts that you put the boxes on and roll around the store. We had some people working in our store who didn't do any of the lifting (50+ years old, people with carpal tunnel, etc) Plus if you're mainly working part time on the sales floor, chances are you will rarely lift boxes anyway! When we get low on time, I'd rush and lift 2-3 boxes stacked at a time which is when it was bad for me. I think BBW is pretty accommodating if you can't lift! 😊

Hey that's a really good point...I don't think I've ever seen a grape scent before! 😮 Maybe the closest being when they did the Wine Vineyard collection in late summer of 2015. Even then it was more like plums, peaches, berries, and champagne scents! Also going way back they had the Art Stuff kids collections that had some grape scents in it. While Beautiful Day body care was retired in stores, it thankfully is still available on their website as an online exclusive! 🍏🌼 Also I don't think they are truly done with that fragrance all together, because it still is available in stores as hand soap and hand sanitizer! Pearberry is a considered a fruity floral; pear, berries, apple blossom, and freesia. Since it is Semi Annual Sale right now, you could try Confetti Daydream (pear, raspberry, iris) or Midsummer Dream (pear, nectarine, lily) which are both on clearance right now. If you want a scent that sticks around beyond the clearance, then I recommend Sweet Pea (pear, raspberry, freesia, and of course sweet pea flower). I hope this helps! 🥰

Forever Sunshine. I think it smells similar to Sunset Glow. Many of my faves did not smell good to me initially. I would come back to it a week or so later and was surprised that I loved it. B&BW products usually smell good on my skin (as opposed to some companies' fragrances would smell bad after it was on my skin for a few minutes). Can't wait to try Strawberry Soda. I hear it is coming back.
Oh yes, I vaguely remember Forever Sunshine! It would be fun for it to make a reappearance. I think Sunset Glow smells very unique! I'm glad it's coming back this June for semi annual sale, I might just pick some up! Im late but Id like to know why did they stopped taking checks? Mines always cleared but I spent way more money with checks. Id get what I wanted with out thought sometimes $3 to $400 a purchase. But when its my bank card im way more frugal and never went over $140 when using my card. Even though it's the same money I was more apt to purchase everything I wanted with a check more so than I would be when it was my card. I don't know what made me that way but I miss them taking checks. I know it had to be something bad that happened for them to have stopped.
Oh, that's a good question! I'm not entirely sure, but I thought that BBW no longer accepted checks just because more people were updating and using more modern ways of payment like tap pay with their phones/apple pay. In my store hardly anyone used checks anymore, and when closing our registers and making our deposit, processing the checks just added another step to closing so I just thought they did it to simplify and modernize. I could be completely wrong though! I totally get what you mean though about feeling apt to buy more when writing a check though, so sorry they don't do that anymore! 😕

I have been a bbw fan since the 90s (im 33) and i miss the old package style so much. They had a blueberry glittery something in the 90s and early 2000s. I also miss the OLD moonlight path the new one is not great 😔. Waikiki beach coconut is my new favorite for about 3 years now. Bath and body works candles are also my favorite over anyone else's.
I hope that fragrance comes back so you can stock up! I'm always sad when I find a fragrance I have to have more of just to see it's gone! 😫 I love the old packaging...they need to do more nods to their history through their packaging! How is the hiring process works for you? Im from NY and it’s probably different for trying to get to hired at Bbw in Idaho than Ny. I’ve been trying to work at one for the longest, and it seems like I can’t get anywhere close to even get an interview.
Get ready because I wrote you a full length book by accident to respond to this question! 😅
Yes, I'm sure they are different depending on store and location. This was my experience: I had just turned 20 a couple months prior, no retail experience, but had experience working in a coffee shop since I was 16 or 17. I also had experience teaching music lessons. The employees knew of me because I was a regular customer that made big purchases (lol). When the coffee shop I worked at sold their business I found myself needing part time work while going to college. So I applied online, put on a nice casual dress, printed my resume, and went to the store and gave it to one of the keyholders that regularly helped me when I shopped. The store manager at the time was...crazy to put it nicely. And not the good kind; she was later fired for a lot of suspicious stuff, so that gives you a general clue as to who I was being interviewed by once I was called for one. During my interview, she literally drilled me in a really stern tone and asked stuff like, "How can I be assured that YOU will make this store's sale plans?" "Can you promise that you will achieve sales goals?" and I just was like "Heck yeah I can do that! 🙌😘" even though I had no clue how to do it, I just really wanted the job and know myself well enough that I can learn anything from scratch as long as I keep going at it. I also was only being hired at the time for floorsets, which isn't even a position on the sales team anyways! LOL! But I bluffed my way in because my love for the company was apparent and they needed people who could work weekends and late nights for floorsets. Then I just worked my way up the ranks from that. I find that experience very inaccurate of how it's actually supposed to go though! LOL!
I've seen many people get interviewed/hired by the not-crazy manager(s) since my own interview, and here's what I suggest:
1. Be on a first name basis with the store manager, be a good customer, and befriend the other employees. Many times when we needed to narrow down who to hire, the store manager would ask the other keyholders, "What do you think of so-and-so? Do you think they'd be good on our team?" and stuff like that.
2. If you really want a job at BBW regardless of position or pay, apply online for a smaller position like floorset, seasonal support, sales support, or sales associate. They hire these positions more generously, and if you apply for a keyholder or manager position, the hiring process will be stricter, more competitive, and you will need to have lots of retail experience. Get your foot in the door, prove you're a good employee, learn the company and be consistent and reliable. Then you have a higher chance getting promoted into a higher position later.
3. After you've done everything on your end paperwork wise/applying online, call the store (I suggest on a Monday soon after the store opens, because usually store managers are on shift then and won't be as busy like they are on a Saturday) and say, "Hi my name is xxxx, is (the first name of the store manager) there?" If they say no, you can either ask when they'll be in next or talk to the manager on duty, but I suggest the first. Next you could say, "I applied online for the (name position here) position, and was wondering if I could schedule an interview?" 😉 If I were the hiring manager looking for that position filled, I would not say no and give you a time slot.
4. Apply in the late summer/early fall: They need all the help they can get from November - January and are more generous with hiring during this time to prepare for the holidays.
5. Over anything else, if you don't have the exact availability they want, they won't hire you. You HAVE TO be available all through November - January, including Black Friday, Christmas Eve, and all weekends. I'm in a college town, and when interviewing that's what we'd check. If they planned on going back to their hometown for the holidays, we probably didn't hire them because that's literally the reason we need to hire them was for those months. I suggest giving 24/7 complete open availability if you can, and negotiate once you're in. Obviously if you are taking classes or have another job, you have to let them know and make yourself unavailable for those times. In my store, we mainly needed closing shifts and weekends, but this may vary upon store.
6. If you get to the stage of having an interview, try to look your best: wear modest/professional clothing and be groomed. I remember my manager mentioning that she thought it was weird how many people showed up to their interviews in a crop top, belly showing, and ripped up jeans/shorts. Come prepared knowing what your favorite fragrance/product is and imagine how you'd describe it and sell it to a customer. 😊 Can be as simple as: "I love the fragrance Gingham because it's fresh and fruity. I especially love using it in the body cream because of how moisturizing it is! Here, try some! (hold out bottle like offering a squeeze of lotion in their hand)" I don't know if this is company wide, but my manager would ask for a roleplay demonstration like this for the sales hires.
This is a ton of information so hopefully I didn't completely overwhelm you! If you love Bath & Body Works as a customer, then I think you would love working there so I hope you can score an interview with some of these tips! Maybe I need to make this a full length video! 😂 Hope this helps! 🤗

@@MelissaC hiiii, i wanted to update you, so I applied to multiple bath and body works, called all of them (this was before I commented on this video). So after reading your tips, that I decided to call one of the bath and body works that is really close to me and i told them “hi my name is so and so and i would like an interview” the manager said there was an “open house hiring event” on Friday (the 20th) and that i could come in at noon and bring my resume, so thats what i did and i waited until then. I showed up with my resume AND cover letter and i said that i was here for the open house but one of the managers said that wasnt until next week and that today they were only doing interviews for the people they chose, but she said because i was already here she wants to interview me in between her other interviews, she looked over my resume and cover letter and she was really impressed with it then she interviewed me and it felt like we talked for a long time and she was impressed about everything i told her. I told her about myself, i told her i have an open availability, and how much i love bath and body works and what are my skills, etc. After the interview, she said she will call me in a few days and then today i get a call from them and they said i was HIRED!! I start Thursday and i want to say thank you so much for her advice and tips, if it wasnt for those tips, I wouldn’t have gotten the job 😁😁😁😭😭😭💕💕💕💕

I remember that collection! I feel like it was really short lived but I thought the three that came in it were a really wide variety of scents: Soak in the Sun, Dream in the Sky, and Dance in the Rain! So fun!
