This video is getting more views than I anticipated so I wanted to clarify a few comments! I’m not stating these as fact, these are just based on my experience and opinions. Everyone has different products they feel are unnecessary. 😊 I'm with you that vitamins and supplements can be very helpful and often necessary. My point was to highlight the lack of regulation that causes consumers to fall for marketing ploys, leading to overspending or even an excess of certain ingredients. I take vitamins and supplements so I am definitely not knocking them. I just think we should consume these trendy supplements thoughtfully and consciously. On eye creams: I’m not saying you shouldn’t buy them or that they aren’t effective, but that a lot of the time they’re just the same formula as a face cream, marked up at a higher price per oz. There are obviously exceptions to this! Few things in life are black and white / good or bad, my intention in this video was to highlight that a lot of products *can be* unnecessary and we should spend our money consciously.

Yeah, as soon as you mentioned supplements I literally groaned out loud, knowing you were going to hear it. I have very strong opinions of my own regarding supplements based on my decades of of research and education in nutrition, and I know what a touchy subject it is for most people. Kudos to you for revisiting the topic here to clarify the point you were attempting to make.
@@StateofKait there are several well known dermatologists on RUclips that say the exact same thing about eye creams. We all have to make our own decisions, which you proclaim. I appreciate all information that gives me the option to make wise choices.
It’s sad to know that all supplements can be joke. My mom has dementia & I’m told to give her vitamin D3, magnesium, etc. Do you have a brand you prefer?
In addition to not needing eye cream, you need to add neck cream. I started using eye, neck, and face creams and realized one cream for all three was way better. Now, I do use a separate eye cream with tretinoin because it is a much smaller percent than the face tret, but as time goes on and I adjust to the tret, I'll just use the face tret for my eyes.
I'm so tired of hearing the words "I'm obsessed" regarding products. Thanks for your intro. Takes the pressure off a bit to not think you have to buy what everyone else claims to be "life changing and that it's okay to use what you already have that works . I only subscribe to a handful of channels now and yours is one of them!
'I'm obsessed' is as annoying as when everyone used to say 'I'm going to GO IN with'. and the current trend of flickering fingers under their chin when they have finished/when they pose
Your comment needs a thousand likes. I think everyone really is sick and tired of those words. But the contribution of them excessively using that, it's also the economy of most people struggling just to afford food gas rent. An extra lipstick or blush to add to "our collection" isn't going to make us prettier, more money, etc. it's a temporary fill in the void or compulsive buying or anxiety mental health thing.
@@debraward8935 same!! Especially in this time of inflation. It’s just gross. Time to simplify. I’ve even been sucked into buying stuff on sale and by the time I get to it, it has expired. I feel that the makeup trend nowadays is more natural anyway.
It’s so weird thinking “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and then “oh! But there could be something better out there”. It’s an awful cycle! Thanks for keeping it real ❤
@@flamingbae if a product works u should keep using, always seeking a better option leads to a vicious cycle of consumerism where ur never satisfied with what you have. I always try to not buy new products unless the old ones are finished and if I didn't really like them.
I have my stylist dab a little or on my brows after she finishes my hair coloring. That way it matches my hair color. I fill in if needed with brow pencil
Yes!! I’ve embraced my natural hair color but now I have to finish my sad brows with MAC Thunder tinted gel just to get a cool enough tone to match my hair.
I buy eyebrow dye from a brand called Depend, it works great and I've used it for 10+ years now 😻 My eyebrows aren't gray yet but my hair is, so my biggest problem is keeping those hairs soft, still haven't figured that out...
I am just letting my Grey fly. Growing out my big rogue patch on my hair and I could care less about my Grey brow hairs. Embrace aging, it's a privilege!
Disposable sheet masks and eye masks!! So much WASTE 😭 and you could literally buy a giant tub of product that will last weeks and it won’t be slimy and drippy and difficult to use. I never comment because it’s usually just a black hole but I feel so strongly 😂 & THANK YOU for all your research and integrity/honestly. You are a breath of fresh air on this platform. ❤
Another thing we don’t need is bronzing drops!! Especially when most people who are into makeup probably already have a foundation in a darker shade, a highlighting primer, a liquid bronzer or just any bronzer that can do a very similar job! I see lots of creators who look like they’re having to incorporate bronzing drops into their routine when it’s clear they don’t really have a use for them
I actually use them! Buuut it's because I don't use traditional foundation (I use Best Skin Days from Iris & Romeo) and I never use bronzer powders or sticks... so I take a couple drops to pat along my cheeks and forehead if I want to look more sunkissed. I can also add a drop in my moisturizer, but mostly I've just been patting it on. I also like that I can add it to body lotion or pat it along my collar bone. But that's just me! If someone already has any other bronzer, they don't need drops too 😅
I honestly don’t buy any of these products for the reasons you mentioned. Gladly, I don’t feel pressured by social media to buy skincare or makeup products anymore. I just know very well what works for me, and I can typically tell if the product is for me or not. Great video though!
i enjoy a tinted brow gel, designer fragrances, shaving foam and some single ingredient serums. i think almost all things can work for some people, but these aren’t really necessary for everyone. i also love a brow pencil for precision, a perfume dupe and skincare that packs more of a punch. it’s all about experimentation and not falling for the hype influencers try to get us to.
I agree with most of your comments but I’m in my 70s and have graying eyebrows that I dye a soft taupe color. Not all my brow hairs return to gray at same time so I rely on colored brow get to coat those. I apply lightly with the brow gel wand and then use a separate clean wand to spread it and keep it from clumping.
I agree with you. What eyebrow gel do you use? I use the Elf Brow Wow tinted gel. It makes my eyebrows look thicker, it's quick and easy, and it's cheap.
Carol - You're looking amazing for in your 70s!! I checked out your profile photo. Whatever you're doing is working. I hope I look as gorgeous as you in my 70s. Have a lovely day from the UK 🇬🇧 ❤
Great video! I don’t agree with all of these *for myself* but it’s a valuable reminder that just because a product category exists doesn’t mean we have to buy/use it.
Love my brow gel! I’m a natural redhead who didn’t over pluck my brows when I was younger (thank you mom!), but my brows are basically translucent. I literally wear SPF, tinted brow gel, and just Vaseline. So minimal, SUCH a difference on my face 😂
you literally have one of the best channels out there. thanks for putting so much thought into your videos, I know you have truly so much else going on in your life, and it means a lot that you don't feed your audience rushed content! we love you!
Ha, just this morning i got my 2nd microneedling and the cosmetician wanted to sell me a 125€ eye cream after I talked about what I could do about my hooded wrinkly eyelids 🥲 while i cant Imagine that it can really make a difference i was still shortly tempted to believe her😬 but then i saw the first ingredients on the list are silicons 🧐
@@majadvoracek6449 I'll never forget when I had a skincare consultation they recommended a bunch of SkinCeuticals products to me and when I asked why specifically SkinCeuticals given the price, they couldn't give me an answer. They just want our money. Not all practitioners! But many. The doctor who does my botox now is super conservative and always talks me out of procedures I'm interested in. He's a keeper.
You're still young, plus you have good brows. As a menopausal woman who has lost a lot of eyebrow hair, and some of the eyebrows that are left turned white, I need the eyebrow mascara/ eyebrow gel. Everything else I totally agree with, and I love these videos!
Yes, I do disagree about expensive perfume lol. Are there many instances when the quality doesn't justify the price? Of course. And if perfume isn't something someone wants to or is able to spend a lot of money on, I understand that as well. But perfume in general is a luxury good, and perfumery an artform that requires extensive knowledge, skill, and creativity. We don't tend to think of it as art and it's taken for granted because it's a widely used commodity, but it's not unlike fine art or haute couture. For people who wear perfume to appreciate the artform and not only to smell good, expensive perfume can be very worth it! Not to mention, many of these less expensive houses are trying to dupe higher end fragrances, in some ways stealing from the original artists. They're the "fast fashion" of perfume houses.
I agree when we're talking about niche, artisan perfume houses, but most people think Dior or Chanel are "luxury" when you're literally just paying top dollar for the multi million dollar ad campaigns and the brand name. Jonny Depp doesn't come cheap. None of those big name perfumes are particularly elegant or interesting. They're made for the mass market and for people who can't afford to buy a Dior dress, but want some of the luxury cachet of the house. Then they end up smelling like 10 million other people who also think Channel Chance is their "signature scent". I think the niche houses that most people haven't even heard of are definitely worth spending on though. That's where you'll find something truly unique and well crafted.
Perfume is not necessarily a luxury good, smelling good will definitely make your everyday life easier. Also people can buy identical imitations of perfumes for way less money
@@Scriptadiaboly kind of, I bought 100 mL of a perfect imitation of Biancolatte (a quite expensive Italian perfume) and I've almost finished it in 7 months
I agree, I always wear perfume. I find the older ones from the 80 and 90s are better. The new ones don't pack a punch and do not smell as good in my opinion. Some of these new fragrances have no lasting power. What's the point of wearing fragrance if it wears off in minutes.

I love videos that simplify my perception of life. I love to cut out unnecessary things. It’s liberating. This is the type of way I like to talk about health and beauty. Great vid!
I totally agree, I've been having seizures for about 6yrs and I haven't worked for 2yrs so I haven't been able to replace none of my beauty products except a moisturizer and a face wash, my skin is waaaaaay better than when I was putting all those chemicals on my skin, I just use my cleanser and apply my moisturizer while my skin is still damp am and pm
If you have blonde eyebrows, tinted eyebrow gel is most definitely the place to start. Using only pencil on blonde eyebrows looks ridiculous in daylight and in flash photographs (which you don't realise in the makeup mirror), since they mostly colour the skin underneath. Either that or dye them if you want your eyebrows more pronounced.
Have you ever tried to dye them with henna? I don't know if it's popular in your region, but in Poland we use it - me for example, I have translucent brows! And I'm not patient enough to use tinted gels, so I dye them with a product dedicated to brows.
I will point out as exceptions to some of these rules: - eye creams are unnecessary, yes, but some people see benefit from the ones that have caffeine (not found in face creams) and/or a brightening tint to them. People with dark circles and/or bags under their eyes can see a noticeable difference. My mother is an elementary teacher, and if she has a day she forgets her brightening eye cream with caffeine (which has a firming effect), her students notice and ask if she is sick. But if the eye cream you’re looking at does not have these things, it’s not worth buying. And NEVER spend money on a luxury one. If you’re spending more than $40 on eye cream you’re getting scammed. - tinted brow gels are fine and actually the easiest product for some of us to use. You don’t get mascara unevenly glopped around as she describes, eyebrows shouldn’t be different. Gels are fast, easy, and CAN be used to shape the hairs. They also have a staying power no pencil or pomade does as they not only glue the hairs in place but the color is locked in too and resists swiping away with sweat. I think she just doesn’t really know how to use them.
She seems to have light eyebrows, that could explain why she finds them messy. I could see it not working well for people with less hairs or very light ones
I have light brows and they're sparse, so no, tinted gels do not work, and yes, I've applied them correctly. She's not against the gel holding power, she said she uses gel, but pencil fills in sparse areas that tinted gel cannot. So if you have full brows then cool, the tinted gel will work for you, but for sparse and especially light brows, the tinted gel is a mess and won't let you really fill in the color. She's a beauty and makeup professional... let's assume she knows how to use a product. Geez. 😂🙄
I personally use eye cream, because i have dry skin and since i use eye cream i can see the difference, even tho i use moisturizer, eye cream is still good for me,also has bakuchiol, but i haven't notified any difference on the fine lines, maybe because they are from smiling 😅
Honestly I love your videos, in a world full of what it feels like, tiktok/youtube influencers just shoving products down our throats, your content is so refreshing, please keep making more! These brands/people need to be called out
Tbh I'm perfectly ok with paying a certain amount of money for my perfume, but that's because i only use niche fragrances. Therefore i know I'm not paying for the brand name or the marketing, I'm paying for a product that's genuinely high quality. And also, as another commenter has said, parfumery is a form of art. I don't expect it to be cheap.
Thank you for your candor and honesty, it is greatly appreciated. I get so tired of influencers pushing tons of products, saying they are doing for us, if truth be told, they are doing it get paid. I trust your view on products and love that acknowledge that none of the products are necessary. Thanks for your honesty. 💯
I will always buy the original parfume IF I can actually afford it and not go broke after buying it. People actually went to school to learn how to create the perfect parfume so I do think that their work needs to be appreciated.
As someone who has sparse eyebrows, I actually use a tinted brow gel and a pencil. If I used just the pencil, I’d fly through them so fast. Lol. So, that’s the one case I’d say maybe works for some. But they aren’t necessary for everyone. 😊
I also like tinted brow products. My eyebrow hair is so dark and thick that brow pencils really do nothing for me. I just use eyeshadow for my brows and a clear brow gel. If I'm lazy or in a rush I use tinted gel. 😅
i am OBSESSED with your channel! however just a little fact check - eye cream actually is different. it is often formulated with much more oil and is thicker than face cream, as the area around your eye has fewer oil glands so it can tolerate more of certain products. that being said, if youre just looking for moisture, a non irritating moisturizer would be fine around the eyes - but eye creams are different and are formulated with amounts that are specific for the fragile, thinner, delicate skin around the eye (whereas our face has thicker skin).
Cellulite is a result of weight gain , inactivity and toxins not being released.. you need to dry brush .and bounce on a rebounder . it's actually good for you and has been proven to help
I agree that lip scrubs are totally unnecessary. I disagree on eye creams only because I am prone to getting milia. Whenever I use face creams for my eyes I will inevitably get them. Removing them is far more expensive than getting an eye cream.
@@mangoteeth1290 I’ve been using the eye creams from Beautypie for over a year. I alternate between the Plantastic Ginseng and the Triple Hyaluronic. Both are good. The Plantastic one is thicker and properly better for winter. I have a membership so they are on the affordable side. Without membership it’s almost double the cost. I love their other skincare products so it works for me.
This is my second attempt to reply. I think YT is deleting at random. I use eye creams from beautypie - triple hyaluronic (light weight and good for summer) and Plantastic ginseng (for winter or drier months).
I am so incredibly grateful to have found your RUclips page. I’m a sophomore in college currently, and I love beauty/skincare/wellness content. My issue is that no influencer or brand really makes me feel seen as someone with super oily/combination skin, and I’ve been forcing myself to fall into certain makeup trends for the past year in order to feel like I’m not on the outside. This summer, I’ve made a huge change in my life with the amount of clutter I have, and deciding to take action in my life and only keep what is necessary. I’ve been binging your videos, and it’s helped me so much to feel more confident in myself and my decisions to not feed into consumer culture. It makes me so happy to finally find a content creator who cares about highlighting their natural beauty, and WHO DOESN’T ONLY HAVE DRY SKIN!! I swear, it is almost impossible for me to find creators who don’t show product reviews with the preface “keep in mind, my skin is very dry”. As silly as that is, I truly have never resonated more with videos than ones posted by you, and I’m so glad to finally feel like I am not going crazy for becoming increasingly critical in the recent year over the vast increase in brands promoting the general public to spend money on so many things we don’t need. Keep it up, and I’m sending so much love 🤍🤍🤍
Re perfumes: please see the BBC's (I think) latest deep-dive into Egyptian jasmine and child labour. Long story short, the parents/workers aren't paid enough so they need help from their kids in order to feed them. Jasmine can only be harvested in the middle of the night, and it causes the kids eye and skin issues because they don't have any protective gear. After hours of harvesting, they get paid the equivalent of 1-1,5 USD or something. Since then, I've sworn off perfumes and will finish up the ones I have. Also, mica (the "glitter" in makeup) is many times collected by impoverished families and their children.
Eh, i have crusty ass lips that peel off in layers and sheets. I think it's due to GI issues and I need a lip scrub. However, your average person probably doesn't need it.
Totally agree with you! An esthetic doctor made a skincare routine for me but my skin wasn't good despite of this... I was so tired to spend money and time to put product on my face that I started to use only cleanser and mosturizing. Well... my skin looks better, my bank account is happy and all the stress desappeared. Overlayering is not ok for my skin.. I just need to let it breathe and live!!!
A huge problem in the supplement industry is the labels often don't match what makes it into the bottle. The NY Attorney General ran a study in 2015, and found supplements from GNC, Target, Walgreens and Walmart contained unlabeled ingredients, varied amounts of the ingredient you're buying, or none at all. Yay allergies! It was 9 years ago and I've not seen anything to fix the problem, though that could be the case. Every food has to be honest with their lists -- you can't secretly switch out meat for oatmeal and peanuts, you'd kill people! Anyway, be careful when using supplements!
I'm a lazy person and always on the lookout for products that would target multiple skin concerns at once. However, there are a couple of factors here that do in fact make single ingredient products necessary. 1) Certain ingredients are difficult to formulate so as to make them both stable and able to penetrate the skin barrier. These ingredienst need to come in a very specific environment to do their job. I keep coming across complex formulations that include vit C (L-Ascorbic Acid) and retinoids that cannot possibly offer those ingredients the environment they need to do their job. These two need to come in single ingredient form to work. 2) Skin care that offers a ton of different popular and effective ingredients in one product often has ineffective quantites of said ingredients. I don't no why. Maybe the product would end up too expensive otherwise? So many times I've looked at an ingredient list and gotten excited. Then I start figuring out the percentages of said ingredients and they turn out to be outside the therapeutic range. Ie won't do anything. Throwing 1% azelaic acid in a product is an example I've seen over and over. When all research showing skin care benefits for that ingredient are done with 15-20% that 1% isn't going to do anything. So I have my azelaic acid as a single ingredient product as well as my vit C and retinoids.
I really like tinted eyebrow gels - because eyebrow are 3d and having more than one colour gives it dimension. Thats what tinted eyebrow gel does for me, I would use a eyebrow pencil in a slightly lighter color to fill in my brows, and go over it with a tinted gel in a slightly darker color - that creates that dimension and makes it look less drawn on imo. for sparse areas a bit of a darker pencil or eyeshadow - et voilá. but I'm also slightly obsessed with eyebrows :D this just gave me the best results with not that much fuss
@@Phyllida-r7n I’m glad you asked. Because she’s employing US to use our intellect rather than whimsical thoughts to make random purchases that we don’t need. How many RUclipsrs or content creators do you see doing this? Leave your judgment for offline, being rude online is out of fashion babe
I agree with most of what you said, but the eye brow gel is so important for me and i think it worth it ( if you have a lot of eye brow hair anyway) but it doesn't worth to be expensive.
I’m so with you on the beauty and actually, other supplements. Eat a balanced diet. I’m older and a plethora of “mature “ influencers shill those supplements like there’s no tomorrow! It’s disgusting!! Glad you addressed that!
Collegen type 1 is now linked to tumor growth, decreased efficiency of chemo and increased incidence of reoccurrence. Most supplements use type 1cuz it’s cheap yet they charge top dollar for it!
Regarding the eye cream, I would add also the exception of having dark circles/over pigmentation. My eyes and face have different needs. Apart from that I’m 100% with you
I’m with you 100% on these, except for the tinted eye brow gel. I use tinted gel to cover grey in my eyebrows. And YES to removing excess products from the shower/bathtub area. I use conditioner for shaving as well. Works great.
This is an important message to get out there. We don't have to be slaves to marketing and influencers. I do differ in my opinion on a couple items you mentioned. Tinted eyebrow gel is a very useful product when your brows start going grey. I get my brows colored when I get my hair colored, but there are always a few hairs that are stubborn or grow in after the dye was applied. I honestly don't find a good tinted brow gel messy. I agree that luxury perfume can be crazy expensive but As far as getting it for the best price per ounce, the larger the bottle, the lower the cost per ounce. I do buy a travel size to try scents out or to have something I know I only want to special occasions. If I love a scent, I try to get it in the 3.4 oz size. Of course, if you find a dupe that smells great, go for it! 😊 Single ingredient serums...I tend to cherry pick the ones I want because I can customize strengths. I am 63 so my needs are different from someone younger. I will say that most of us don't need a single hyaluronic acid serum because that ingredient is in most other serums. I want to use my Vitamin C in the morning, not at night with my retinal or exfoliatants. Well, that's just my humble POV. Thanks for the excellent content.❤
Totally! These are just my picks but I am by no means saying people shouldn’t use these products if they like them. For me, I don’t care about price per oz as much as I care about the total price of a perfume, since I can’t possibly use Il multiple full sized bottles. I’d rather own a few travel sizes instead at a lower cost, but everyone’s different!
Tinted eyebrow gel works well for me too! I switch on and off using it, but for me my brows are basically there in terms of shape but a bit lighter than I want. So I like to darken them overall with the tinted brow gel, and then it’s easier to spot the few sparse areas where I need to go in strategically with a brow pencil to just even out the shapes.
I agree. What eyebrow gel do you use? I have sparse and thin eyebrows, and I use the Elf Brow Wow tinted gel. It makes my eyebrows look thicker and it is easy to use.
I'm so with you on these Kait. With the exception of tinted eyebrow gel. I have very sparse brows with patchiness. I draw in hairs and use powders to fill in and lock it in with the tinted gel. If I don't do that, everything disappears within 2 hours! LOL.
Finally someone from the internet speaking about it, why don't people understand that on internet they're getting paid so much for saying*this product is must* Thanks for this
This is such an important message, it cannot be said enough. And you present it with nuance, which is great, because I feel like almost everything is nuanced
I just discovered you because of the blake lively video you made and im a subscriber for life! I love the Influencer video you did as well and I think you should do more content like that. You are well spoken, beautiful on the inside and out, and care about your viewers. Its nice and refreshing to see. Cant wait for more vids!
I agree with you on everything except the tinted eyebrow gel. I have very sparse and thin eyebrows, and I use the Elf Brow Wow tinted gel in Brunette. It makes my eyebrows look thicker, it's quick and easy, and it's cheap.
Thanks for this. Such a helpful, honest and informative video. I always really appreciate how you are so straightforward with your viewers and never try to just sell us things.
As a lip artist, I use lip scrubs all the time. It is usually different from a face scrub exactly because it's oily, and I leave it to soak in for 5-10 minutes, after that exfoliating is easy. You can use a lip gloss and a piece of cloth instead (that will work better than a face scrub), but some lip scrubs are just very convenient to use - I love the ones in lipstick form. And, of course, you use it before applying makeup, not when you are wearing it.
The only reason I started using an eye cream rather than just my moisturizer, is exactly what you said: the BOJ eye serum that has retinol that is super gentle compared to my tretinoin!
I actually use the Beauty of Joseon Eye Serum on my whole face, since it's the cheapest per ounce Retinaldehyde out there (not to be confused with retinol). As you say, it's gentler than other retinoids, and yet equally efficacious, in my opinion.
62yo viewer here and yes I love beauty products. I am sure over the years I have tried everything, and found basic is better. It can get to a point where to many products on your face are just to many. I find vitamin C, retinol(or similar product) moisturizer and sunscreen(or a product that has a mix of these) has been my go to for years. Totally agree with you on the eye creams, yet I keep trying them, I think it is time to stop. Thank you for these videos.
I love that blue lip tint it lasts so long! You just need to make sure your lips aren't dry, you're putting an even layer everywhere and you let it completely dry
It's always a joy to see someone tell it like it is. I do like Channel No. 5 cause the scent reminds me of my mom & grandma. There is nothing wrong with a little Vaseline Petroleum Jelly under makeup, etc. The founder of Maybellineknew that. Nothing wrong with putting cut potato or banana peel on skin. Yes, cornstarch as well. I'm in my fifties & thought that the gimmicks were bad in the 80s.
This was great! We are subjected to so many unnecessary beauty products we 'must have," but really don't. Great reminder to really think about what I'm using and if it's really necessary and even providing a solution or result from using it, or am I just giving away my $$$ for nothing gained. 💜
Thank you so much for this video! ❤ I especially agree on beauty supplements. The amount of people who SWEAR by beauty supplements online when they’re obviously being paid for it and to trick women all over the world break my heart. Going with the collagen craze people I know who don’t suffer from a collagen deficiency will mass buy collagen EVERYTHING
TYSM for making this. I've been downsizing my beauty routine after years of having a 12 step beauty routine morning and night including fancy lip scrubs. Now its like... why bother?
Agree with you on many of your points, but the lip scrub: to my sensitive skin, I sometimes actually need lip scrub because it helps me being more careful. I always gets split lip from rubbing. The lip scrub lasts for months and I use it sparingly before removing makeup or before getting in the shower. I have weird skin though, and the lip scrub only contains coconut oil/butter and sugar. And I totally agree that most people don’t actually need it. But for some reason the washcloth or rubbing, makes me bleed, and I have no idea why💁🏻♀️
I agree with every single one of those "unnecessary" products! How great it is that you validated what I've learned from my own experiences. I'm 58, have sensitive skin and can totally relate to the layering of single products causing irritation. I always only buy the small sized samples of perfume. It's nice to mix things up. I have different scents depending on my mood. I've used Dove unscented soap for shaving for many years and it works just fine. I use matte brown eyeshadow and a stiff makeup brush for my eyebrows. ***I don't see the point in an eyelash serum.*** Great video!!!
8:07 recently there was a documentary revealing the truth behind some of this “rare expensive raw materials” harvesting. They use child labor. So yeah, I’d rather not support all these claims for purest Egyptian jasmine etc. Give me synthetic one (which in most cases smells almost the same if not better) and we’re good, and no need to overpay.
My dermatologist and I have been fighting for years about eye creams 😂, she says NO and I say PLEASE. I’ve saved so much money sticking to what she recommends.
Oh I love fact you prefer travel size over full bottle just like I do! Its really not worth get full bottle, also small size is so convinient to grab with you wherever you go❤️
Love your videos, but I do have to stress that the eye cream point is, well, not entirely true. While some people have different needs on their face overall and under their eyes, the biggest selling point for eye creams is not that. For something to be called an eye cream, extensive opthalmological testing is required. It ensures that if you accidentaly get it into the eye it's unlikely to cause you any significant issue. Regular face creams are not tested in that area at all and thus you cannot have that confidence. Especially if we're talking eye creams with actives that have different maximum percentages in eye creams and face creams. Just wanted to add that, because they are not a scam at all, despite what many people think. It's just the difference doesn't lie in the visible things :) writing this with love tho
On the shaving cream, i think it depends on person. I have such sensitive skin i have to have 3 steps BEFORE i shave, then get out shaving cream, it's the only thing that helps me not get razor burn. Obviously if you dont have to buy shaving cream, wouldnt get it but dont feel bad if you have to
God I wish! I have psorrisis (can't spell this early, lol) so i need to spend the $7 on can of Aveeno shave cream, any cheaper suggesions? Ive tried lots of dupes and all of them suck for my sad skin😢 altho i just found full bottle of the Aveno bodywash, under my kitchen sink, so i'll try that and hopefully save some bucks! Thx for ur content, love it❤❤
It’s so true, there’s lots of beauty products we don’t need. I would include primers as well. The few I’ve tried didn’t do much for me. My conditioner is over $30 so I prefer to save it for my hair and use shaving cream instead and I do buy a full bottle of my Diptyque perfume because it’s the only perfume I wear and I truly love the scent. Great video as always!
So interesting how everybody’s “need” items are so different. Primer - for me - is the absolute most necessary product I put on my face (besides serum & moisturizer). I use Smashbox Primer (the original “smooth & blur” formula) and it does exactly what it says on the tube: blurs pores & smooths my skin, also slightly mattifies which is crucial for my oily t-zone. I can leave the house confidently with only primer on my face; it’s absolutely a “need” for me. Under-eye concealer & brow gel are second tier, but I believe those are kinda necessary too - particularly for those of us over 35.
Thanks for making this video! I do use the Kiels avocado eye cream before concealer as my under eyes are very dry, and I do notice a difference. I also use brow gel if I'm in a real hurry and don't have time to fill them in properly. It's nice to have someone not trying to sell us stuff! Love your content
Thank you for talking about single ingredient skincare! I’m not a makeup person but I really enjoy skincare and it seems like the criteria for being a “skincare enthusiast” is having 200 different products you slap on your face rather than talking about what actually WORKS. No one needs a 10000% Niacinamide serum AND a separate HA serum AND a face mist AND 5 different face oils plus who knows what else🙄
Thank you for getting the message out there to get women back to being true to who we are! I wanted to say from a 55 year old women, color eye brow cream helps cover the gray in your brows. You will understand when you get there.
Never say never. When your loosing hair and have no hair around your temples and continue to watch clumps of hair fall out of your head daily and have bald spots on your head your will get to the point where you'll try anything. And I mean anything and everything honey!
I’m going to add a caveat to expensive perfumes as someone who has a fragrance hobby. Someone can absolutely get dupe house perfumes and get a similar result for the scent bubble it creates. But that doesn’t take into account the longevity and performance of a perfume. Plus dupe houses will not be 100% the same no matter how hard it tries. If you just want something that will make you smell good, then get a dupe or just a tester. But if you want to experience a perfume, then I’d recommend just saving up and getting the perfume at its higher price tag.
I pretty much agree with with everything you said. The issue for me is lip stains, I have purchased many that you like and the other creator you mentioned. Now, I like all of them, but even when I buy the lighter colors, they all look dark and fake on me. So I end up putting an opaque gloss on top to tone it down. Today, I tried the Wonderlips, which I don't like the peeling part, but my lips are small, and finally I have colors that are just right! I thought they were full of crap...but it was a very good deal and I'm glad I went for it. Thanks for keeping us more practical!💚
Oh, I'm one of the exceptions in the eye cream department. Yes, I can see how it would be unnecessary for those lucky enough to have normal skin but I get milia if I'm not careful. Any cream that works fine on the rest of my face would easily overwhelm the delicate skin of my eye area and poof...milia! And they are very hard to get rid of once you get them. But as I do need the extra hydration around my eyes since I wear makeup (and it would be a dry flaky mess if I didn't) my miracle product, going on 15 years now, is the Boots Cucumber Eye Gel!!! 😉 But I'm a special case and I get that most eye creams are in fact face moisturisers in mini format! 😅 Agreed, the lip scrub is a no for me too! I just use my toothbrush (having rinsed it off first of course) and do a quick once over before applying the Nuxe Rêve the Miel lip balm (the one in the pot is the most nourishing), and I can't tell you the last time I had dry flaky lips and I'm a matte liquid lipstick wearer. Lol, the shaving cream is a must for me! I'm extremely nearsighted and I don't wear my contacts or glasses in the bath so a shaving cream that's bright white and where you can clearly see the parts you have already shaved and haven't is a must for me! If I use just a conditioner I can't actually see what I've already shaved 😂
when it comes to skin care product, i think the best investment would be going to a dermatologist with ur skin concerns and having a personalized skin care routine and only sticking to those products. this what kept me from buying viral skincare products, having extensive skincare steps, yet my skin is amazing and clear.
Love this content! Personally I prefer to have separate serums, so I can use them depending on what my skin needs that day... but totally fair point, and 1000% love your videos
Your content is so incredibly valuable. I’m so grateful I found your channel, you’re the only beauty guru I watch and trust now. I’d love to know your thoughts on eyeshadow primers - are they just a gimmick or do you think they have a purpose?
Thank you! I personally don’t use them because I work from home and don’t need my eyeshadow to last for 8+ hours, but I have friends who swear by eyeshadow primers. I think it’s based on the individual!
I just recently found your content and definitely agree with a lot of what you talk about in this video. It's definitely dependent upon the person as well. I get why you personally find the individual ingredients don't work well for you where as I'm the opposite. I've done the all inclusive treatments and it never helped my skin. Now that I use separate ingredients, my skin has balanced out (and my moisture barrier is slowly repairing itself). But seriously, huge de-influencing here for a lot of things that some people may not be aware of being the same like the eye creams.
This video is getting more views than I anticipated so I wanted to clarify a few comments! I’m not stating these as fact, these are just based on my experience and opinions. Everyone has different products they feel are unnecessary. 😊
I'm with you that vitamins and supplements can be very helpful and often necessary.

Your comment needs a thousand likes. I think everyone really is sick and tired of those words. But the contribution of them excessively using that, it's also the economy of most people struggling just to afford food gas rent. Another thing we don’t need is bronzing drops!! I see lots of creators who look like they’re having to incorporate bronzing drops into their routine when it’s clear they don’t really have a use for them
Same! I hate bronzing drops except for my Innbeauty face glaze bronze because I mix that with body lotion
Omg this lol every time I see one I just can’t picture where it would ever fit in my routine.
And you always can buy only few ml via fragrance community or a sample/travel
@@Scriptadiaboly kind of, I bought 100 mL of a perfect imitation of Biancolatte (a quite expensive Italian perfume) and I've almost finished it in 7 months
I agree, I always wear perfume. I find the older ones from the 80 and 90s are better. The new ones don't pack a punch and do not smell as good in my opinion. Some of these new fragrances have no lasting power. What's the point of wearing fragrance if it wears off in minutes.
Love to see someone is actually saying practical things unlike other influencers!

Makes sense!
Have you ever tried to dye them with henna? I don't know if it's popular in your region, but in Poland we use it - me for example, I have translucent brows! And I'm not patient enough to use tinted gels, so I dye them with a product dedicated to brows.
@@StateofKaitFor my gray and white eyebrow hairs, too!
My brows have gone from light brown to gray so I dye them with Just For Men beard dye then fill in with pencil as needed. Works best for me, anyway.
You might have sparse eyebrows as well.
I will point out as exceptions to some of these rules:
- eye creams are unnecessary, yes, but some people see benefit from the ones that have caffeine (not found in face creams) and/or a brightening tint to them.
I agree with all your points.
Is there an eye cream with caffeine your mom likes??
I have light brows and they're sparse, so no, tinted gels do not work, and yes, I've applied them correctly. She's not against the gel holding power, she said she uses gel, but pencil fills in sparse areas that tinted gel cannot. So if you have full brows then cool, the tinted gel will work for you, but for sparse and especially light brows, the tinted gel is a mess and won't let you really fill in the color.
She's a beauty and makeup professional... let's assume she knows how to use a product. Geez. 😂🙄

I don't expect it to be cheap.

i am OBSESSED with your channel! however just a little fact check - eye cream actually is different. it is often formulated with much more oil and is thicker than face cream, as the area around your eye has fewer oil glands so it can tolerate more of certain products. that being said, if youre just looking for moisture, a non irritating moisturizer would be fine around the eyes - but eye creams are different and are formulated with amounts that are specific for the fragile, thinner, delicate skin around the eye (whereas our face has thicker skin).

Long story short, the parents/workers aren't paid enough so they need help from their kids in order to feed them. Well... my skin looks better, my bank account is happy and all the stress desappeared. Overlayering is not ok for my skin.. I just need to let it breathe and live!!!
Totally agree!!!👏
I just found your channel today and I trust you more than 99% of “influencers” I follow across all platforms
How do you “trust” a channel you’ve only just come across TODAY?
@@Phyllida-r7n I’m glad you asked. Because she’s employing US to use our intellect rather than whimsical thoughts to make random purchases that we don’t need. How many RUclipsrs or content creators do you see doing this? Leave your judgment for offline, being rude online is out of fashion babe
I loved the Wonderskin lip tint. I didn’t leave it on for more than 15 seconds and than used a washcloth to take it off.
Oh my goodness a beauty influencer who is no BS…AND also has EDS?! You’re my new favourite discovery! ❤
Oh thank you!!
This girl is speaking FACTS!! It's time to save money. Thank you for this video!!
Collagen now has studies proving efficacy. My nails and joints have significantly improved on collagen.
Yes, I’ve seen those studies! I didn’t say all supplements are bad 😊
Collegen type 1 is now linked to tumor growth, decreased efficiency of chemo and increased incidence of reoccurrence. Most supplements use type 1cuz it’s cheap yet they charge top dollar for it!
It helps me to even though it's costly
Regarding the eye cream, I would add also the exception of having dark circles/over pigmentation. My eyes and face have different needs. Apart from that I’m 100% with you
Please keep making this kind of content. It really helps me with my impulsive shopping addiction.
Single ingredient serums...I tend to cherry pick the ones I want because I can customize strengths.
LOL.
Yes, I mentioned that in the video that there are obviously exceptions 😊
I have sparse and thin brows, and I use the Elf Brow Wow tinted gel. It makes my eyebrows look thicker, it's quick and easy, and it's cheap.
Finally someone from the internet speaking about it, why don't people understand that on internet they're getting paid so much for saying*this product is must*
Thanks for this
This is such an important message, it cannot be said enough. And you present it with nuance, which is great, because I feel like almost everything is nuanced
Sadly, we live in a society that wants everything to be black and white, good or bad.
Travel size perfume is everything!! I can't wear fragrance at my job so travel sizes are perfect for the rare days I get to wear it.
You can’t wear perfume? Why?
@@iiLuvvEminemmost scents that others wear give me a headache
I just discovered you because of the blake lively video you made and im a subscriber for life! I love the Influencer video you did as well and I think you should do more content like that. You are well spoken, beautiful on the inside and out, and care about your viewers. Its nice and refreshing to see. Cant wait for more vids!
@@KayJoyy wow, thank you so much
I agree with you on everything except the tinted eyebrow gel.
Yeah that's the one exception for me too!
I actually use the Beauty of Joseon Eye Serum on my whole face, since it's the cheapest per ounce Retinaldehyde out there (not to be confused with retinol). As you say, it's gentler than other retinoids, and yet equally efficacious, in my opinion.
It’s so exciting to me to find someone interested in skincare who also has EDS! I have to be so cautious in what I try so my routine is very simple.
It’s so hard! Having a super simple routine is the best way to go for me
62yo viewer here and yes I love beauty products.
THE LIP SCRUB REVIEW IS SOOOOO REAL
I use a tinted brow gel as I have a few grey brow hairs now and the tint colours them in rather than getting them dyed.
Great idea
My “tinted brow gel” is the dark brown mascara from the dollar tree. It works so well. $1.25 ✅
Now its like... why bother?
The realest girl i even seeing!! THANK U! Those hype products make no sense.
Gray hair, gray eyebrow hairs - I need those tinted brow gels! 😁
Yessss! My grandma used to dye her eyebrows, but tinted gels saved her a salon appointment. So it has a use, we just aren't the target audience for it
Same! A brow pencil doesn’t help. A subtle, tinted brow gel makes a huge difference!
To clarify, I do also use a brow pencil. But a pencil alone doesn’t help with the gray hairs. I need both to make them uniform.
@@anna5380 I can’t dye my eyebrows - for some reason, the color doesn’t hold! Couldn’t do without tinted gels.
Same!
I love you, you’re literally one of my favourite creators ever and your content (esp the deinfluencing ones ) is always a chefs kiss
Thank you so much!!
Thank you, Kait😊! You are so sweet & wise! I appreciate you 💜!
That fenti lip stain is so nice. My daughter bought it for me for Christmas and it has such a smooth formula that isnt patchy.
Thanks, you talked me into not using all my ulta points on a perfume I’ve been wanting and getting a sample first!😊
Woohoo!!
Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely Love this Very Informative Video. New subscriber ❤
You have perfectly articulated my thoughts and confusion surrounding lip scrubs 😂
I HATE THEM
Brown sugar and olive oil is literally all you need, it is wild!
I wish this worked for my lips! Homemade ones are always too oily and wash cloths never seem to evenly scrub my lips and my washcloths are too soft
On the shaving cream, i think it depends on person. I have such sensitive skin i have to have 3 steps BEFORE i shave, then get out shaving cream, it's the only thing that helps me not get razor burn.
Obviously if you dont have to buy shaving cream, wouldnt get it but dont feel bad if you have to
All of these are subjective!
@StateofKait I understand, and I definitely respect it! I also agree with all of your other opinions :)
Dammit, how did I forget primers?! That’s like….my least favorite product ever!
What's your favourite Diptique? Love their green scents
@@ScriptadiabolyDo Son! But I do like many others from them.
I saw the term “ampoule” popping up a lot recently and I just… sigh… is it really necessary?
If you like face oils - an organic, cold pressed Rosehip oil is gorgeous for your skin. It's the one oil I keep returning too.
@@HighOnCaffine9623recently? Old Korean thing
@@ScriptadiabolyNot only in Korea...it is an old fashion skincare staple in many european countries, too.
"Losing"
No, don’t feel pressured. I’m 65. Enjoy your practical and sensible podcasts.
Very true! They’re *inspired by* but not exact recreations, which I think is better anyways.
Yeah I think it’s a good distinction between being really into fragrance as an art form and wanting something you just enjoy and can wear out
I pretty much agree with with everything you said.
Agreed, the lip scrub is a no for me too!
If I use just a conditioner I can't actually see what I've already shaved 😂
totally hear you
when it comes to skin care product, i think the best investment would be going to a dermatologist with ur skin concerns and having a personalized skin care routine and only sticking to those products. this what kept me from buying viral skincare products, having extensive skincare steps, yet my skin is amazing and clear.
I literally just use Dove Sensitive Skin bar soap to both wash my body and shave with. No problems. Razors last the same amount of time.
Yes this channel is a relief
Thank you! I personally don’t use them because I work from home and don’t need my eyeshadow to last for 8+ hours, but I have friends who swear by eyeshadow primers. I think it’s based on the individual!
@@StateofKait Thanks so much for the response💗
I just recently found your content and definitely agree with a lot of what you talk about in this video. It's definitely dependent upon the person as well. I get why you personally find the individual ingredients don't work well for you where as I'm the opposite. I've done the all inclusive treatments and it never helped my skin. Now that I use separate ingredients, my skin has balanced out (and my moisture barrier is slowly repairing itself).
But seriously, huge de-influencing here for a lot of things that some people may not be aware of being the same like the eye creams.
I always learn something when I watch your videos. Thank you for educating us!
Oh thank you!
