Some furniture pieces that would cost thousands because they are OOAK or handmade pieces, can be made for hundreds.

I figured out what my favorite thing is about watching your videos. It's the fact that you both contribute to / share the work & are a real team. Katelyn isn't just standing around being booth babe eye candy (or Evan if hey that's your thing lol) like some other channels. Your general attitude would be a close second. This is exactly what I was thinking...bare minimum they should have painted the inside (or the whole thing) a paler color so the LED colors showed more pure.
I can't stand when people cheat with anything it's rediculous. I know this is all for good clean fun but seriously don't be cheaters. It's just a pet peeve of mine honestly for some not criticism but honest feedback. I make things for my cat all the time and because I believe it has my scent on it from me putting it together verse something that I purchased at a store he naturally gravitates toward it more. I love this idea of a series though 🙂. Great job guys!
I think that's the stain and wood combo they used paired with the colored LED's. If they had gotten a (cheaper) light-colored wood and stain, you wouldn't get the 80's vibe.

I made a gate/fence yesterday and only had a hand saw (not electric) to cut the wood and the whole time I was thinking “if only Evan and Katelyn could be my neighbors, my life would be so much easier!”. But y’all should be happy to know that apart from my arms hurting like death and my finger being a casualty of the hammer, the fence held upright! Thanks guys so much for giving me the inspiration needed to start my first ever building project!
Resin time! Little late to the game but if nobody's thought of it yet I think a foggy resin piece on top would be nice an a semi see thru for the front. That way you hide the lights and can still see the wood grain.
The light might look better because the little lamp is a lighter wood inside. If you whitewashed the inside of your lamp, the lights would look different. You did a great job.

Have seen some stuff years ago on diy cat furniture. If you do build, one source is see if you can get the big cardboard tube carpet comes on. The tutorial that I am recalling, he cut it in half. It's thick enough to screw into, and you just glue carpet to it for the supervisor to relax on.

Several things to make it match more similarly: Light to be stronger / have more lumens or watts, you could even wrap the LED back to back to make it a longer strip so the light projects more intensely. Lighter wood reflects light better, so it also appears brighter

You could wrap the insides full of lights the fill it with an opaque resin that might make it look cool and give it way more structure so it isnt just relying on glue.
For straighter cuts with a jigsaw we really like the T142HB blade. It's much deeper than a typical jigsaw blade and is made for straight cuts! We used it in place of a circular saw for the longest time!

For making LEDS (with a silicone top layer) you can either paint on a light layer of either a white paint or a white glue that drys white. The white layer of white will disperse the light coming out of the LED to flatten out the lighting.
I think that yours would have looked better if the wood had been less grainy like maple or pine. Even painting the inside a solid white, cream, or Ivory color would have reflected the light better and may have looked brighter. Just an observation! Homemade is ALWAYS better than store bought, in my opinion. Keep up the great work! I would love to see more of this type of video. As always ... Have a better day!
The most important factor to consider on things like this is that you can make it EXACTLY like you want it. Consider how much the person you are buying it from would charge is you could customize it. That is when the prices REALLY go up.
I think one of those diffusing sheets of plastic could add a lot to your diy lamp, it would make the light softer and more evenly spread. Plus if you put on over the top too you can hide the sight of the led strips inside.

I actually like your DIY lamp more, because the wood looks nicer and even when the light is on you can see the wood structure on the inside of the lamp. But everyone's different, you guys definetly did a great job - as always :)
I think painting the inside white would have made you feel better about the LEDs not being as bright or as “warm” as you wanted. And it could’ve made the rainbow more vibrant
I love the aestetics of your lamp. Since these lamps are more for decoration and background lighting, the intense white light is bad. I am also very fond of wood, and the white finish of the bought lamp makes it look like it might as well have been made of plastic (and not the fancy kind). Seeing the wood grain in that coloured light was beautiful.

Tip, with the angle for the table saw you can put a thin piece of wood in for the channel and then screw another piece on top of that at the angle you need. It'll only be for that one angle but it will work for what you need.
I really like the concept for this series. As you addressed, if you like making stuff you always see items you like and say, "I could make that". Though often times it is more expensive to do so. I would like to see more of this series for sure👍
That's true, so I guess it depends on what you'd be doing with this time otherwise. If your DIY time is replacing relaxing/fun time no big deal, but if the DIY time is replacing work time it's a bigger factor.

Glossy white would be too much, the other lamp has the benefit of a being a much lighter wood

If you shine white LEDs against a darker wood, it's not going to look white. Use a lighter wood.

You could have use the offset of the angled piece as a spacer and taped/clamped it while the glue dried.

Tip, with the angle for the table saw you can put a thin piece of wood in for the channel and then screw another piece on top of that at the angle you need. It'll only be for that one angle but it will work for what you need.

I really like the concept for this series. As you addressed, if you like making stuff you always see items you like and say, "I could make that". Though often times it is more expensive to do so. I would like to see more of this series for sure👍

That's true, so I guess it depends on what you'd be doing with this time otherwise. If your DIY time is replacing relaxing/fun time no big deal, but if the DIY time is replacing work time it's a bigger factor.
