Heyy so I noticed that since the molds have a hole on the top what happens is that when you put it in the pressure chamber you are putting a force on that spot so that might cause that weird pattern at the bottom of the planet. Great vids btw.
if you let those layers of resin cure even just for 45 mn (to gel state) and then add your next color - they would not blend. Time is your assistant for making planet-y stripes!

Or even do the outside like the clouds and continents or whatever and then fill the rest. Doing it in two pieces like Sam said would work well for making the outside first and going in. You could even do like the magma layer if you were feeling super into it or whatever.
@@galaxystudios8304 I think it's also possible to fill the mold while it's closed, because there's a hole in the top, so it would require very careful pouring, or a lot of disposable funnels/pipettes

The thing with resin is that it has a kind of "convection" flow, like magma on the inside of the earth where the hotter magma rises to the top. So because it creates heat when it cures, the resin in the center rises and the cooler resin that touches the walls falls. Also the pressure chamber plays a role because the invisibly tiny air bubbles in the mixed resin get squished together by the high pressure and so the resin moves against itself and doesn't stay in it's place. That's why it's hard to do all-in-one resin pours where you want things to stay in a specific place. You could try a different sphere mold (or pour one out of silicone yourself and cut it in half) and just paint your continents or stripes on the inside wall, let it cure until it's leathery and then just pour the rest of the resin in, so you have at least some parts in the specific places where you want them.

Katelyn, the sides have to be clean of other colors on your mold if you want stripes to show through. They were all smeared because of the dribbling from the spoon. When trying to break the fall of something like that, you have to pour away from the sides. If you want a visual of that techniques, look up some artisan soap channels, like RoyaltySoaps. They use it frequently, though with a different medium.
It always amazes me how well you two work together. I love my husband, but we can't even assemble Ikea furniture together without Googling divorce lawyers at least once during the process.
