Today, we’re going to be talking about the underappreciated impact of Lana Del Rey. Some of you may wonder - what do you mean by underappreciated? Lana Del Rey is one of the best artists of our time!
And while that may be true and many do champion for Lana, I don’t think she’s always focused on being influential, unless it’s by mention from another popular artist.
Lana Del Rey’s impact on the industry is often not recognized. So with that, we’re going to look at several factors that express Lana’s broad influence that you may not even be aware of.
We’re going to be looking into larger aspects such as her leadership in the aptly titled “sad pop” genre and prompting further discussion when it comes to mental health and music.
Additionally, we’ll dive into other personal reasons surrounding Lana; such as her battle for authenticity following a devastating “Saturday Night Live” performance and her willingness to flow into whatever direction she seems fit, which is anything but conventional.

Lana Del Rey is probably the most influential artist of the decade, even Taylor Swift said it in the Billboard Music Awards, and she has all the reasons, since Lana came out, a ton of artists became way more sad with her music, darker, depressive or at leats minimalistic, it's the truth, Halsey, Conan Gray, Melanie Martinez are a few examples.
The radio had been playing so many songs that are minimalistic, depressive, calm and relaxing, introspetive music, Billie Eilish is such a proof that the Lana's impact is amazing, she is kinda like a Lana, Lorde or Avril Lavigne but she has been compared to Lana way more than others, and her music has soft vocals, minimalistic production, introspective and dark lyrics, etc,.
Even rappers and popstars have been very influenced by Lana, like Taylor Swift, Folklore is such a Lana´s kinda album, the songs that could do and Wildeast dreams was one of the first songs that was big and it has such a Lana vibe.
Lana in the future, even now, it will be considered a cult artist for being so iconic and unique, like Joni Mitchell and Carole King, she's on that road for sure.

Lana is one of the most underrated and under appreciated artists of all time. One of the main reasons she hardly gets any recognition is because she simply does not compare and/or compete with any other artists of today. Lana is competing for a place in history next to Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, etc. not Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Billie Ellish, etc. We are witnessing one of the greats making musical HISTORY. Unfortunately for Lana, it will take longer for her art to be appreciated the way she deserves. Lana del Rey has always been so ahead of her time artistically and it will take everyone else decades before she is recognized as such.

@@xkeepcalmandsmilex9788 I don’t know if you misinterpreted what I was saying or just an angry person, but it’s not a negative thing that I was pointing out that Lana doesn’t compete or compare with artists today. In more ways than not, Ariana, The Weeknd, Billie, etc. are more successful and far more appreciated than Lana. Which is a compliment. By me saying Lana competes with artists like Bob Dylan, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Janis Joplin, etc. I am saying that those artists didn’t have the accolades that their peers did at the time and their work took more time to be recognized as some of the greatest. I consider those artists I mentioned exceptional. They will go down in music history the same as Lana will. They are just categorized differently.

Absolutely. There’s nothing much more to add, her work is absolutely beautiful and has paved the way for many to go in similar directions, whether that’s artists already existing at that time or new artists that were yet to debut. Halsey in particular is an artist I cannot imagine existing without Lana, especially her debut album in terms of the type of cinematic atmospheric vibes she was going for by creating a concept album. Lana always has been but especially now is seen as a controversial figure which certainly does not help her perception by the general public 9 years after her debut album, but when her work stands on its own, I think it is very powerful in the way that it is simple and present and not hyper-promoted or overexposed to the public and I can only assume that it will be much more appreciated in the future.

Lana is one of those artists who do have recognition but not being appreciated as they should’ve been, her impact is undeniable and it’s evidential in a lot of exhibits.
For instance alternative music and music with sentimental perspectives were not being as popular around the time she debuted, considering that most artists around that time were predominantly “optimistic” and even her label has underestimated her power at first. The fact that Ultraviolence was released at the same time when major artists like Katy Perry were releasing Prism but still gained one of the highest first week (even higher than some of those pop stars) was really exceptional on it’s own and it only showcases what Lana was trying to convince labels, your music does not always have to resonate with others to be acknowledged and this influenced other people to also make records that were more vulnerable/sentimental, Lana might not be the first artist to be affiliated with this genre, but she definitely is one of few of our generation who actually revived a genre that was barely having any presence anymore, if it wasn’t for her some of these upcoming alternative girls would not even have a career because their music would not be appreciated nor noticed by the public, she opened doors in that regard but it’s frequently being ignored, especially by the critics who have horrendously crucified her for years.
I’m glad that they’re finally having the realization of how prominent Lana’s presence actually is, but it’s still unfortunate how they are giving her flowers as for now and not in the beginning of her career.

When you really look into it Lana's impact on the music industry is huge. I agree with another comment left here by someone else that said Lana doesn't compete with today's mainstream pop artists, she's in her own league - she literally established her own genre of music. She's unapologetic about her art and her beliefs (that are actually very liberal despite what the internet trolls try to claim). It's a shame to see how so many people are trying to ruin her reputation just because they refuse to understand her and ironically paint her in a negative light which only proves what Lana said on this exact topic to be true. When you take the time to read more into her lyrics and poetry, she's brilliant; a true talent, and someone who has something important to say about our culture. I'm so glad that I'm living in her time as I truly believe history will look back on her as one of this generation's greatest singer/songwriters. It's no wonder that so many other music legends like Stevie Nicks, Elton John, Bruce Springstein all rave about her, they know what they're talking about.

I'm a Lana Fan like most people here and like most I don't know her personally . And the only glimpse I get from her is from her music, interviews and from what she posts on her social media account and I'm Impressed with what she accomplished though she indeed came from a wealthy family she had her fair share of problems like her alcohol addiction, from her relationships and joining a cult thing and she'd overcome. And in her musical journey from singing to bars, then record labels not really paying attention to her, to her critics but she persevered and it was worth it. And it can't be denied that there are other also influential female artist in Alt but she has her own signature that you really know its her her. And yes she has her problems but she's like everyone of us , Humans who make mistakes and gets hurt and fed up she's no different than from everyone doing the thing they think is right. Everyone does it even people who hate her for her controversies call her out because they think they're doing the right thing and sometimes people just want to be right nobody wants to be wrong.
And personally for me I like Lana because of her Journey it just inspires me to keep on trying . That despite the odds you can still make a difference in and out of the camera and generally just doing the thing you love not to please others but for the sake of doing them.

mother of alternative, period. its like god mother del rey vs lorde. her arch nemesis is the female alt singer in her narrative. its on ella.

Lana's art will definitly outlive her and I have hope that she'll become one of those stars that shone even more after their death. Even if I'd rather she'll get the recognition she deserves rn I don't think it'll ever be enough, and like she said "Hollywood legends (and their legacy) will never grow old"...

Lana Del Rey is "the greatest singer/songwriter of our time", hands-down.
Thank you for the great video! I just have two comments: I think you focused on the SNL performance a bit too much. Sure, it was pivotal in her career especially coming even before it officially began, but didn't need to be so excessively emphasized. 2nd: there were too many text slides in the video and I love reading all of them 😂 so a bit less would have been ideal. Thanks again!!!
