Why do I like you so much Pat?😀 This is AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME advice! If your blog has an Alexa ranking of 1 million or less, you can look at using HARO to find experts. I’ve been doing this for years now. It saves a lot of time, and it gets you in front of sources who may not otherwise be interested in participating. Remember, HARO is where a lot of publicists hang out, so you can use this as an opportunity to build an internal contact list of publicists who you can reach out to as soon as you have another post that needs an expert. Pro tip: when you send the link to the article, include the logo so the source can easily include your article in their media room. Social shares are great, but you should always be building reputable backlinks. When done correctly, the one question concept plus the power of HARO is a fantastic relationship builder.
Pat, dude, I've always appreciated (and admired) your transparency. What you said here is powerful 'The fortune is in the follow up' - It's got me thinking differently now about my strategies! Thank you!
Awesome. Recently did this when I wanted to get top tips for remote teaching by educators who were already a few weeks into it. I found a top education personality put out a similar question on Twitter and I scoured the comments. I reached out to maybe 20 people and asked if they would want to record their advice on their phone for me to stitch together into a podcast episode. 12 or so said yes. 1 actually got back to me until I followed up and then got 3 more. Since it was fewer people, I said they could record clips that were a little longer to make a 40ish min episode with my own intros and context of who the people are. I actually sent them a spreadsheet where they could put what they would talk about and see what the others were going to say in order for there to be diversity in their answers. They could also include all their social media links in there to make it easier for me when I made the show notes. I like your point about diversity. I sought out teachers from elementary, middle, and high; men and women. Unfortunately the four that got back to me were men but I did get a 1st grade teacher, two middle school teachers, and a high school teacher. Excited to do more like this for my blog or RUclips channel next. This video gives me more question stems to consider. Thanks Pat!
Fantastic advice from Pat - If you didn't take notes, watch it again. Worth writing down the key insights & steps. Possible Question: What's the one thing misunderstood in [niche] by [yet another niche] ? And FWIW, Google Forms is an easy way to streamline collecting answers (written) that automatically get stored in a spreadsheet.
Amazing strategy Pat, something I've never even considered! I can see this working with my podcast as it surrounds English as a Second Language speakers, specifically those people who migrated or are migrating to Australia. My idea for the question round up is [What is your number 1 struggle with learning English?] Would love some feedback on this or other ideas ❤ Cheers, Teacher Adriana
Great tips! This just goes to show that you don't have to be the expert in a subject to capitalize off of it. This video has earned a spot on our playlist, great job!
I LOVE the concept of “Crowdsourcing Ideas”, definitely going to implement that! Hmm, our one question round up post would probably be along the lines of “What trait(s) does a member of your “1000 true fans” have?
Colin here. Loved this video Pat. Easy "take-homes" for very doable action-taking! In tandem with keyword research, I could use this strategy regularly across networks. Off the top of my head tho (very late where I am!), I would say to my fellow worldschoolers... "What's the one thing you wish you'd known before you started your worldschooling journey?". PS. Also saw your "follow-up video" a few days ago. Gold! PPS. Looking forward to the parenting entrepreneurs' podcast you mentioned :-)
One Equestrian 🐎 Round-Up... If your horse could be its favorite color 🎨 ... What color would that be? And the follow-up question... How do you know your horse’s 🐴 favorite color? 🎨
I finally got caught up to this video. I had it in Watch Later. I got my channel banner and intro video done. I actually got over a hundred views in less than twenty-four hours, a first for me.
Round-up question: One thing which you might knew earlier, on building relationships (professional). Informative content and funny too! hehe :) Each day I am learning new aspects of life and other things related with work.
If I'd had school teachers with your style, I very likely would have learned something. I'm glad you don't drag out the info; you get right to the point. You definitely know your stuff; makes the info easier to learn and remember. 👏👊
@patflynn - There is one thing i like about your videos : You sound authentic, you're not cocky, and topics are interesting. Unlike many other " youtubers " i feel like you truly want to share knowledge with your public.
Great advice. Thanks Pat. I actually have a podcast scheduled in January where I'm asking what is one piece of financial advice you wish someone had given you. But now I have additional questions I can ask for other episodes.
You're sharing there some gold, Pat! And besides this awesome information, I wanted to say that your videos became SOOOO incredibly good. You improved so much since already last year. Not to think about the last 2-3 years. The value you gave was always amazing but now I've got the feeling that it's skyrocketing through the roof. And also your hooks, your fun, lighting, set up, how you talk, the flow of whole in one.. it's just everything got so good! Just wanted to share this. Keep it up !!
When I started my business I used to worry about not knowing how to vector logos or images, I thought I had to become a graphic designer. A few years later and I still suck at using Coreldraw lol but all I needed to know was the basics and there are so many resources to get them done, such resources like fiverr. I been learning a lot, thanks for sharing with us Pat!
RUclipsrSphere = yup! @Pat Flynn you've coined a NEW word in the Blogosphere. :D Great step-by-step intel here - for beginners AND for old-timers! LOVE your editing on these videos

Great info as always Pat! The question I would ask comes from the book you recommended - Ask by Ryan Lavesque: "What the #1 struggle you have with __________". For my case I try to ask this question as much as possible to my audience who are struggling with creating online courses.
Sup Pat. Have you thought about sharing the copy of that first email or follow-up email? I'd be curious about how you present yourself to those people who don't know you initially. I'm not sure I could figure out to write something like that to people in my neeeesh though as it's directed at first time travelers or even where to find them other than maybe facebook groups/pages.
Yo Pat, I’ve got 2 kids and I’m a photographer, podcaster, and entrepreneur. If you want to get that number up to 25 hit me and my wife up and we could give you our take. Love your content man. It has been essential with launching the Allegory and Elm Podcast. Cheers Mate.
Hey Pat! Thanks for this awesome idea. I do have a question about it that's bugging me: I'm creating content in the parenting niche and I think I have one of two options as per "whom to reach out to". I can either ask parents in general, or reach out to parenting experts (ie, other people in the parenting field who create content and counsel other parents such as I am). I have a feeling that the second option would be more beneficial for my audience of parents, who may want to hear from those who are parents as themselves but also deal with parental education. However, I instantly get the feeling of "who am I to reach those high-profile dudes, I'm just a little fish in this pond, why would they spend their time answering my question". In other words, I'm scared of reaching out and getting crickets in response. Could you maybe relate to that? Am I wrong in thinking that this gap would mean I'll get no response?

Hey Pat, love your videos and thank you for the great content! I have a question: Let's say I create a list of 100 authority figures and reach out to get 1 answer for a youtube video. Great question. Yes, don’t bother the same people every single time, and mix it up! It’ll be more interesting and people will have more to learn from / or different people to be introduced to. Try this with forum and group owners, too - they love sharing things to their crowd they are featured on.
My 1 question: looking at the global crisis we're currently in, what opportunities does it offer for ______? As always, amazing and very entertaining video #TeamFlynnForTheWin

Haha! The sign of an entrepreneur--- a spinning brain! 😊
Great advice again 👍🏻❤️

Does this strategy work for comedy podcasts? And if so, how does it?
Yes. I’d do a “make me laugh in 60 seconds” podcast with a bunch of comedian guests on.
