    I like the Yamato class when it comes to battleships. It has spare nacelles, Struts that might protect key engineering spaces. Lot of durability where blowing off a strut does not take a nacelle off, you have to do 2 or more. Size doe help absorb damage, but multiple attachments are even better.

    Go-to answer to everything- "It's a colony ship"

    16:54 Well, most Starfleet cruisers we see in canon are basically tall ships intended to sail to far and distant lands. Their size to me signifies more that they would need bigger stores for food and other supplies including torpedoes.
    Such ships would need to be able to fend for themselves, because on the high seas of deep space help is far away. In fleet operations this might be a "cannon ball" hauler which could beam over photon torpedoes to allied vessels to restock them.

    • @TalesOfWar
      @TalesOfWar 7 лет назад +5

      Indeed. I see it in a similar capacity as a carrier/battleship type hybrid. Think of a Battlestar from the Battlestar Galactica universe. It has the firepower to hold its own and decimate enemy ships but it's also very much a support ship that can supply other ships around it and carries a compliment of fighters or lots of shuttles for logistics tasks.

  • @PsychoStreak
    @PsychoStreak 7 лет назад +5

    Interesting, but it seems... well, pointlessly big, and somewhat toothless, despite the number of phaser turrets.
    It's not going to scare of anyone with half decent sensors.
    And the pylons seem more Danube class to me, than Oberth.
    If the secondary hull were heavily armored, and it carried huge amounts of matter & antimatter, and say 1000 torpedoes, it would make some sense, but with only 4 tubes, a refit Connie or Excelsior could almost match it's rate of fire. It should be bristling with weapons, unless most of them are retractable, which I kind of doubt.
    If it's supposed to be in the TMP to Ambassador period, the top connection between saucer and secondary hull doesn't fit at all design wise.
    The aft shuttle bay should be a weapons blister with phasers, torpedoes and a pair of mine dispensers. It's got enough room to store enough mines to encircle a planet, forming an instant blockade.
    The big bill board looking area between the aft bay and the top bays really does nothing except scream "AIM HERE" when it should be covered with hatches for launch tubes for missles with a variety of propulsion methods - chemical thrusters, impulse, mini warp drives for long range attack, and really simple kinetic weapons - neutronium or depleted neurtronium tips to bust through anything at high sublight velocity and keep going until they run out of momentum. Then they blow up.
    Basically an Aegis cruiser, an attack sub, and an MLRS.
    Lateral torpedo launchers for actual broadsides attacks.
    The fantail is too big, too unarmed, and too close to the pylons. Given that there have to be intermix shafts close by, it's another "AIM HERE" sign, despite the torpedo tubes.
    Add a trio of hidden Miranda style phaser cannons just above those large gray/blue sections are for a real surprise.
    Or, just put in another deflector dish back there for long range comms, Dreadnought style.
    It should be able to put up a 360 degree barrage that would make an angry Klingon feel woefully inadequate. From what we see, it can't even come close to that.
    You attack this ship from below and just enough astern to be outside the firing cone of the saucer's phasers and they can't fire torpedoes fast enough to adjust their course to hit you if you stay perpendicular to the launchers.
    As it, it's a heavy armed transport at best.

    It could be a Trogan horse with a few Defiant class ships in the secondary hull and then some runabouts above. The rear of the nacelles definitely need some work like an inset grill or something.

  • @MajorButtons
    @MajorButtons 4 года назад +1

    a big think most people forget to consider is that while a navy is optimized for combat, the secondary role is day-to-day connectivity. while a small optimized combat ship like the defiant is great for war, it is not great if you need to rush some supplies to Andor as part of a disaster relief mission, or evacuate colonists from a planet in the way of the doomsday machine, or move raw materials and critical supplies to a space station under construction. so even if a star fleet vessel is like 60% empty space during normal or wartime operations, that internal volume is just as vital to its mission profile as its weaponry and scientific capabilities.
    remember: a fleet aircraft carrier may be a mobile airstrip capable of obliterating countries with its onboard Air Wing, but it also can produce its own water and use its helicopter assets to aid areas affected by massive disasters.
    it's much easier to make a warship that can haul cargo than it is to make a freighter that can win a fleet battle

      Pretty much the same shape as on the 1701 refit, designed about fifteen years before DS9 and even longer before any Defiant class.

      except for the 23rd century defiant though. Anyways yea I have to agree on that. Compared to Mystic Spenny P's Commander Class Enterprise This is quite a ship design.

    • @MrSheckstr
      @MrSheckstr 7 лет назад

      Perhaps a two decked ship that has the same shape as the defiant? But if the scale of the ship is accurate you could nestle a Defiant there, I missed what era is this ship supposed to be?

    Hey guys, you have mentioned making your own modifications to designs to tweak the bits you find fault with and I personally love the idea. Maybe you could work up a final render or two of the designs with your changes and make it a closing segment?

    @16:40, when they mentioned the extra space that this class of starship may have, I was thinking it could be used as a military transport ship or some type of M.A.C.O. combat support ship (transports in the ground troops, then remains in orbit to defend ground forces or take out entrenched ground targets).

  • @kevinbrewer8868
    @kevinbrewer8868 7 лет назад +2

    The saucer looks like a mix of Ambassador and Sovereign, and the sensor array at the bottom would really be needed for a battle ship. The secondary hull is clearly Excelsior, those nacelles are Constitution class phase II with some odd tweaks, and lastly the good Cpt. Foley was spot on with the pylons being Oberth class. I like the stepped coil grill idea y'all had, that would make it much better.

  • @nefdsnet

    I think it would be massively oversized for a battleship, hell I think the Sovereign was oversized for it's role, in spite of being a modest return to sanity from the Galaxy. In terms of displacement compared to similar ships this would be some kind of Superdreadnaught. Battleships tend to be a fair bit bigger than cruisers but shorter and stouter than battlecruisers, one would reasonably expect a TMP era battleship to be maybe 20% larger by volume than the Enterprise C, not so massive it could hold the C inside of itself as a parasite craft.
    The proportions seem right though, it makes sense that it would be a more squat design with heavier struts and a proportionally thicker hull.

  • @eXcommunicate1979
    @eXcommunicate1979 7 лет назад +2

    The top of the secondary hull is basically the bottom of an Excelsior.

  • @90lancaster
    @90lancaster 7 лет назад +2

    I like it - I was going to nickpick a little bit - but my points would be very minor like this :
    Move the pennants to the struts.
    Add detail around the impulse crystals
    make the impulse engine slightly larger and the struts slightly less wide (back to front)
    make the back end of the nacelle a we bit longer
    But overall I like it it fit in to the period just prior to the Ambassador class. I do think I agree with Stuart & Sam though that it's more fleet Support looking than battle ship looking.
    But perhaps because the size and width of the hull reminds me of the factory ships in the "Full Circle Fleet" in the recent-ish Voyager Novels.
    800 Metres plus is huge though (in Star Trek terms). Big enough to have pretty decent interior space configurable for a variety of uses.
    I've always though a Galaxy Class should have a shuttle carrier variant where the whole primary hull saucer is a flight deck (much as it is on the Stargazer) the same space could be configured at the time of construction as amphibious life form living space, shuttle space or cargo or extra crew quarters.
    I can see the same here this hull could be configured for cargo, manufacturing, logistic support, shuttle or many other uses.

    • @TalesOfWar
      @TalesOfWar 7 лет назад

      It's similar in size to the carrier class ships in Star Trek Online and looks like it may be able to fill the same kind of roles while also being a beefy combat vessel (though maybe not all that manoeuvrable).

  • @Riceball01
    @Riceball01 7 лет назад +2

    A possible reason for the ship's size could be beefed up shield generators/hull plating or armor; remember a battleship isn't just heavily armed, it's also heavily armored as well.

    • @Ziplock9000

    Cool enough ship, BUT if she's a battleship, where are the weapons???
    Just a suggestion--if she was 400m long instead of 800+, most of the problems go away.

  • @Raussl
    @Raussl 7 лет назад +1

    well the Pylons are a complete mismatch in reagrds to the rest...a) there are literally windows that point towards the pylons..."intelligent" design right there, ha. b) they come from inside the engineering section and curve upwards, utterly inefficent waste of material. They should instead come out of the upper most deck of that section, similar to the Excelsior and be shorter to give them a "bulkier" look.
    c) engineering section goes "down" too deep. 4-5 decks less on the lower part of the engineereing section would give it a more robust look.
    Rest looks fine though. Nice Sovereign predecessor.

    Ah, the USS Thicc
    It's a really silly gripe, but I absolutely hate it when the registry number scroll on the underside of ships is huge. It just...looks ugly to me when they do that. I can't put my finger on why, but registry on the bottom of the saucer section being smaller than the registry on the top just looks aesthetically a lot more pleasing.

    Maybe it could have been designed "just in case" during the diplomatic wranglings with the Klingons in the movies, but then they made peace so the one actually-built prototype was repurposed as a colony ship, with lots of other torpedo tubes removed to leave it with only a self-defensive armament.

  • @Fish1701A

    I have a problem with calling this a battle ship and then making it larger than any other vessel. That pre WW2 thinking and I feel that in Star Trek a battle ship should be a third tier ship behind the Trek equivent of a super carrier and escort carrier (in TNG era this would be the Galaxy and Nebula class)

  • @GBRyker61

    The pylons don't look anything like the pylons on the Oberth Class. These curve up to the nacelle from the secondary hull. On the Oberth the pylon comes straight out from the secondary hull, and takes a sharp turn upward to the nacelle.

    This is a nicely complex yet elegant design. Although I am very puzzled why there are very few visible windows that are helpful in establishing the scale of a ship like the Star Destroyers in Star Wars for example. I would expect to ship of this size to be covered in tiny lights indicating windows and yes even on the battleship as I said like a star destroyer has thousands of windows and it is definitely a ship designed for a battle role.
    With those details added I can see this ship being refined in just a few other small ways and being a great addition to the Starfleet!

    You guys missed the Shuttlebays, they appear to be the black doors on the top of the saucer and not the huge rear door. It may be that some much bigger ship is docked in there instead. Similar to the Odyssey class Tier 5 in STO. You can even see the well known '1' and '2' on the doors in blue. That huge bay may hold in fact one or multiple ships that would be used for evacuation missions or something of that sort. Another theory may be combat ready ships, I have a feeling you could fit in a decent sized ship in there that could do a lot of damage.
    I would have to agree on those impulse engines, they would look better with the Enterprise-B engines indeed. And instead of big one on top and a smaller one below it, I'd say 2 big ones on top of each other. It is a huge battleship after all, not a small cruiser. Adding some extra in the pylons and some small ones on each side of the nacelle's would further enhance the capabilities of this ship. And "sliding them in when you don't need them" isn't a bad idea either, or just make the nacelles on the front just that tiny bit thicker instead.
    The 7 turrets on the saucer may be on the inner ring of the saucer, I see 7 dark grey things on there that may hint to that. Also it would logically be the best place if you added 7 of those. But if you would add even more logical thinking to it, the ship is huge. Why not add a secondary ring of turrets on the outer saucer section which would add another 14 to 16 turrets making a total of 21 to 23 turrets. Which would make it a real battleship with actually a huge array of firepower.

    • @90lancaster
      @90lancaster 7 лет назад +1

      Yes I was thinking it's wide enough for a border scout vessel or a warp curiour to dock intact. that wouldn't fit in a normal vessel's bay - it could seemingly take even bigger things than the Sovereign could too.
      That is an interesting though though which starship class actually has the biggest shuttle bay doors - something like the Ambassador must be a contender.
      Though the D's is very wide it's not very tall and we barely see the main Bay on TV so we don't really know how deep it goes other than buy guessing looking at the hull bulge. But the D sure does have the potential to be a carrier.
      I would love to see a variant D saucer with a single mount with duel Impulse where the current Shuttle bay 1 is. and then put left and right shuttle bays of the same shape one each side - with the whole interior for several of the inner part of the top decks made other to shuttles - and with a modified bridge areas on deck 2 that has flight operations control station on the left and right sides.
      Alternatively keep the rear bay and add a front one.

      Looking at the technical manuals for the D it has a pretty massive shuttle bay on the dorsal. There's a project someone is doing to recreate the whole of the D using the Unreal Engine so you can walk around it and there's a walkthrough of the shuttle bay here on RUclips. It's a pretty massive space. I wish we saw it on the show, there's so much of the ship we never got to see either because the story didn't demand it or they didn't have the budget to do anything but mention it in dialogue. They went into insane detail though with the official schematics etc. They essentially designed the full ship and explain how it all (theoretically) works. You rarely see such detail and dedication go into something you'd never actually see on screen, but this is something Trek has always done well, especially from the TNG/Phase 2 sort of era where consistency and continuity was taken extremely seriously.
      Also the Nebula class is pretty much what you described. It's a more modular take on the Galaxy, a successor to the Miranda in that sense. Swap bits here and there to fit the mission profile.

      On the D the main shuttle bay is all of C deck . The oval with the doors at the end that whole area under the bridge is all shuttle bay . I got a conversion kit of the main shuttle bay for 1/1400 D by polar lights from federation models showing all of C deck open with only colum in the middle for turbo lifts and Jeffries tubes

    The secondary is way too thick. Look like baby starship is come out. Some refinable on the design,
    A Starfleet battle ship or FASA.

    It definitely looks better than the Discovery ship. CBS should've used a ship something like this for the new series.

    This is one of my favorite ship designs, and looks well polished.

    Those red-ish squares on the hull of the saucer section look like the ship has an acne.

    I'm getting a Vesta vibe with this ship
