    At 12:00 in the video when they were talking about the pulse cannons, another battleship that the federation used in the 23rd century, the proxima class used 2 banks of pulse phasers for broadside action.

  • @JimMcCray
    @JimMcCray 7 лет назад +3

    The impulse engines look awesome to me. They just plain look great from the rear (the only view I had as I scanned quickly through the video), and also look like they'd make the ship extremely maneuverable for its size. I mean that it looks like it'd probably out-maneuver ships even much smaller than itself =)

    Oh right and I think the impulse engines are bang-on. If there is a higher res render incoming - might I suggest adding some dynamism there with some tonal changes in the color. or like a heat wave effect internally. But I like the shape, position and beefyness of it.
    The turrets as adapted from Akira classes are great and makes sense if starfleet needed to cut development cost/time and scaled them down and just used an extant design. They'd use whatever they could off the shelf for a ship this large.
    How many warp cores does this thing have? I'd guess no less than two - but as high as four or even five to generate enough power for each nacelle and/or slipstream?
    The Phasic Cloak is great from a certain standpoint but it would require a huge strategic change at starfleet and Riker's dead body for that to happen. Or they classify its existence on the ship at roughtly Omega Level so only the captain knows about it - not even the tactical officer without a proper briefing and super emergency need for it. This is a ship that would scare the piss out of whatever remains of the Romulan Star Empire even if it is a Borg Killer - with no more Borg in the prime timeline...well - now its a direct counter to anything in the Typhon Pact. With slipstream that sucker can be anywhere in the Federation - so perhaps it even maintains station cloaked all the time so they can hide their asset - and only decloaks for use in war or a similar level of urgency.

    Definitely a ship meant for flag officers. The tonnage alone makes it a potential weapon of mass destruction. If it holds true to battleship doctrine (have big ass guns on a big ass ship) you would need someone with the military authority of a flag officer (commodore, admiral, etc.) to validate any use of force.

      @@isfj1009 it’s a beauty either way! My idea was simply a personal pref. I. Agree this look is def more traditional federation design. I still wouldn’t mind seeing the aggressive look idea on it though simply cause I imagine the aggressive one being something the federation would assign to worf as a sector flagship on the klingon border maybe since they’d respect a fearsome looking ship ☺️ or one run entirely by federation security as tactical response vessel to threats but no matter what though this ship as is even deserves to be cannon and in a episode at the very least!

    I would have put 4 of the slightly smaller retractable turrets on the underside of the saucer (same smaller turrets on the dorsal aft area) and two ventral phase strips on the secondary hull (like the sovereign class's 1 ventral phase strip). With such a huge ship it would be easy to stay underneath firing upwards whilst only having to deal with two ventral phase strips. That's quite a weakness. You would want to put them on the underside of the saucer because moving them aft on the secondary hull would make them an obstacle for launching fighters to overcome.

  • @MrPingn
    @MrPingn 7 лет назад +2

    A fun design. I like it. I also like the idea of the turrets. though I agree with the captain the I would have the drop down into the hull. It's not like it's hurting for interior space lol.
    I've always said that Starfleet needs to have it's own dedicated combat force. Just have it in reserve so it doesn't get mistaken as the face or intent of the Federation. A fleet for each major area. Have it act as a training platform for Starfleet personel. They cycle through to update and recertify. As well as mock battles for training their non combat oriented ships.
    A ship like this would be like a mobile starbase doubling for a traning facility. Then when the next over powered villian shows up. The nearest combat fleet rolls in to the fight.

    • @isfj1009

    This frame style seems like it would be suited solely for troop transport and insertion in a Dominion War Scenario. Large space for troop housing and training, with power dedicated to large transporter capacity. Inserting a force of thousands of Starfleet or allied troops on a planet like Batazed. Maybe inclue ablative armor for survivability while troop transporting is occurring. The extra warp nacelles would be good for survivability, because while one can build new starships, you cannot clone new troops.

    Those nacelles make me think this is another attempt at a different species faking a Federation design, like the Voyager episode with the slipstream ship.
    Addon: Pulse Phaser Cannons could, in theory, randomize their energy frequency to compensate for Borg adaptation with each pulse. This would effectively make them ideal for fighting Borg.

    At that size... pretty sure a defiant class can fit in the lower hangar, and since the defiant has a history with cloak, it could make a nice combat surprise (i mean it is a battle ship)
    Some suggestions, if i may:
    1. Add 3 individual warp cores. One as a general purpose. One dedicated for weapons (as a battleship should be). One smaller, as a redundancy, also to power some (special) auxiliary features.
    2. Add a feature/section to produce/construct any type of torpedo and another feature/module to be able to mine & refine (not only) dilithium on the fly.
    2a. I imagine the construction of this ship eats up a lot of resources to build (materials, time, personnel, multiple shipyards in tandem, etc).
    2b.The federation is a peace faring thingy. This ship has the excuse of coming into existence due to borg, species 8472, etc. This being said, due to the nature of federations diplomatic tensions (that this purely war ship must bring) +2.a.+2.b there should only ever exist 1 to 3 ships of this kind at any given time.
    2c. >conclusion> In order to be able to fly from war zone to war zone this ship should be able to mine any resource needed in order to, and be able to, construct its own armament.
    3. In war there is no place for children. This should never have the feature of being a generational ship.
    4. (^Iwo Jima class^) The standard crew complement should be supplemented by at least 4-600 close quarters combat crew and maybe some combat drones (for hazard zone combat) plus multiple boarding pods. This should give the ship the capability, for example, to resist being boarded by multiple borg cubes at the same time, or, as another example, board and take over even those enormous borg hypercubes.

    The saucer should have fewer/smaller windows, and more forward weapons emplacements. The hull plating should also look more like an ablative armor, and not the Galaxy class explodium.

    • @isfj1009
      @isfj1009 3 года назад

      Thanks! Final version does have fewer windows on the saucer. 48 torpedo launchers JUST on the saucer (weapon pods). Multiple phaser arrays on the weapon pods. And the large dorsal and ventral saucer phaser arrays are segmented, allowing for simultaneous phaser fire from the arrays.

    I agree, the turrets would be retractable and would be retracted most of the time;
    producing a 'less aggressive' appearance, visually. And given the ship's size ...
    yes, I would expect each turret to have it's own torpedo magazine and phaser-
    power generators (at least as a back-up, to provide redundancy in case of large-
    scale damage); the large size also allow for a sizable 'Captain's Excursion Craft'
    (I've never liked using the term 'yacht' for the Captain's personal craft.), some-
    thing as big as the Defiant (or nearly so), allowing the C.O. to make an 'excursion',
    and bring along both staff *and* a protective detail, if needed.
    I would like to point out that with a ship *this* big, with all *these* capabilities, & a
    crew complement of *2500(+/-)* ... the Commanding Officer would be at least a
    Fleet Captain, and more likely a Commodore! This level of rank would justify
    making the Excursion Craft a full-featured and fully-capable small starship. Also,
    an Excursion Craft that big would allow having a large enough Briefing/Conference
    Room to allow it to also suffice as a 'Greeting Hall' for Diplomatic Meetings & the like.

    • @isfj1009
      @isfj1009 4 года назад

      Yup. Weapon pods are retractable; each has it's own supply of torpedoes; each has it's own power distribution nodes (PDNs) for supplemental as well as emergency power.
      "Captain's Yacht" is an Arrow Class shuttle. Standard compliment is (6).

    It definitely has its good points. I agree. The nacelles could be a little better size proportioned and sleeker but my biggest critique is technical. The warp field emitters on the nacelles are facing the wrong way. According to the STTNG tech manual, the warp field can do considerable damage to matter the closer it is to the emitters. Otherwise, it's a sound design.

    Am I the only one who would want to see a Terran Empire version of this ship with less windows and weapons in every feasible place, especially the long flat hull section, which could feasibly have more turrets or phaser strops, and the saucer section is thick enough to have at least twice as many strips as it has now.Also, those nacelles need some kind of retractable armor that folds in and exposes the nacelles when jumping to warp, but covers them in combat. Because the 10:55 top view shows just how exposed the actual nacelles are.

      50 years would be far too long. For better or worse, something like this would exist probably no more than 10 years after the end of The Dominion War, since while the Dominion was contained, it was by no means defeated. At some point in the Star Trek Universe, there would assuredly be a Second Dominion War...even if the Founders had to sacrifice countless Jem'Hadar to acquire trans-warp technologies so they could invade the Alpha Quadrant by means other than the Bajoran Wormhole.

What i took from the episode was that the explosion ruptured the trans-warp conduits leading to the Alpha Quadrant. I assume that the collective are spread heavily through other parts of the galaxy and are creating pathways back toward the alpha quadrant immediately following the events of Voyager

    I like the nacelles , they look like they are made for brute force instead of looking pretty. The shuttle bay seems like it should go as deep as the secondary hull allows. I could imagine 20-25 deep and 3 rows of smaller shuttles. Less on the top 2 that could be almost in-battle shuttles, like rescue or assistance of other ships being fired on. Think tug boats with self defense capability.
    I personally want to see more ships with more windows, I know it would help me mentally and could help with stress, otherwise you are sleeping and living in a steel cage which can get to you after a while.

  • @stevenbaumann8692

    I like the overall design a lot. The nacelles not so much. It's a great concept. Mobile star base that can kick ass. It could also serve as a transport for fighters even small shops that need protection until they are deployed. I do however think the warp 9.9 speed is not viable on such a large ship.

  • @alfreddiemitchell9641

    good day Captain Foley. the pulse phasers to my understanding is both for concentrated compressed energy as well as for kinetic impact. think like a Mac gun from Halo except instead of a kiloton slug you got this compressed energy acting like in hammer so it's more like a double impact.

    the other thing I wanted to mention is that the smaller impulse engines is probably for the secondary hell and the larger ones is for the Primary hell.

  • @artycofresi736
    @artycofresi736 7 лет назад

    Phasing selective areas to deploy or recover shuttles/fighters or even gather the smaller ships and then phase the ship around them would be a very insane but useful maneuver. Phasing would also help counter the kinetic cutting beam the Borg use. Torpedoes could also just go through the ship and perhaps even modifying the phasing cloak to temporarily phase cloak torpedoes and or auxiliary craft. I am thinking this is a few generations behind the Enterprise J but it is in the same vein although cooler than that monster.

  • @Bluefoot65
    @Bluefoot65 7 лет назад

    the pylons are too close to the ship,I know the Defiant but this ship is too large to use the radiation shielding used by the defiant that was one of the reasons the defiant was small. I like that the one set of warp nacelle is attached to the primary hull and a second set is attached to the engineering or battle section. The size of the impulse engines would indicate that the primary is much larger as far as mass and would need the larger engines. The engineering/battle section impulse engines are smaller because the push a smaller mass. The placement of the warp and impulse engines tells you that the ship splits. How and where does the ship split?

    Pulse phasers hit harder than a beam because it's delivering the same kinetic yield consistently vs a bleed effect with a sustained beam. Beam phasers are less punchy, but you can get more accurate with them.

    This is a cool design, I kinda like the idea of a Starfleet Battleship, though the only thing I don't like is the Phaser Turrets/Akira Weapon pods. Either the turrets need to be bigger or there need to be more of them, additionally, I think it would look better if the designer turned the torpedo launchers into a turrets, whether incorporating them into the the Phaser turrets, or even giving them their own turrets.
    Anyways great video as always.

    I'm not sure the crew compliment for this beast is right. The Sovereign Class was 685m and sported a standard crew of 855, with nearly 10,000 being the max that could be carried on board in an emergency. This Arizona Class is slightly bigger than double the size at 2.26 which looks about right to me on the scale. So I would honestly say the bridge on the Arizona Class would like actually have a very different design than the Sovereign Class. In fact it would not surprise me that as a warship if it had one of the if not the only multi individual tactical station in Star Fleet. With a weapon compliment going from 16 type-XII phaser arrays and 10 torpedo launchers to 22 type XIII phaser arrays, 8 torpedo pods (which someone says is like 90 launchers), and pulse phase quad cannons mounted in 5 turrets. That is an insane increase in fire power. So yeah tactical on this ships bridge I could see having 3-5 crew members at all times, with 1 monitor power to defensive systems and tending to it while another handles weapons and another handles shields and others handling ship security. (This is also assuming the pulse cannon turrets are individually controlled by the weapons crew in the turrets) This is all mostly because the more tactical stations and crew manning them the more targets can be engaged simultaneously. And then there is the carrier role, so far I haven't even mentioned anyone being in charge of coordinating the fighters. So yeah, I can see this ship possibly having more "crew" than what was suggest. I'm seeing roughly 1,932 standard crew. That's all your engineers, command, science, and medical the people that would in laymen terms be the sailors. After them you have the pilots, which whatever your hanger space is you should assume 2 per fighter or other type of crafts. That's a number that isn't defined in the video so it would be figures as 100+ (figuring at least 50 shuttle sized craft which is 2.5x as many as the Sovereign carries). And while on the subject of the hanger I'm not sure about the guys that were reviewing it but to me it very much did look like the lower hanger was a two story hanger, but empty of any craft. Which made me think it would be interesting if the fighters and shuttles are actually kept below deck and are brought in to be launched via elevators or large industrial transporters from a more secured hanger bay on the deck beneath the hanger itself like what an aircraft carrier has and does.Back on crew topic though. Last we have one more section needed, the security crew. Which I feel should be divided into 2 duties weapons officers and marines. The weapons officers would be the crew that man all those weapon systems and keep them working smoothly. So I'm figuring you are probably looking at another 500 crew right there. As for the marine compliment they serve as general security and mostly handle anything that involves phasering other individuals on or off ship. There could easily be 2000 of them because this is a warship, it is meant to fight and as they mentioned it very likely doesn't get out much unless that is it's purpose. At 2.26 times the sovereign's size you could expect it to have enough space to in an emergency max out at 22,000 people on board. However given the ships purpose and the design it would have to fulfill it that would be taking up space I would place the max compliment it could carry to be more like 15,000 or so. So the total crew that would normally be on board would be around 4,332-4,650 with additional free space allocated for carrying 6,000-8,000 troops for ground invasions during war time.
