+Darby “Fox” Conway Fortunately, you can get an odyssey from the fleet yards for 200,000 fleet credit (no modules required). she's not quite as good as the C-store variant, but she's not bad either.
So a couple of things to clarify for you guys: First, the Split Neck was actually an outgrowth of the Quantum Slipstream Project. With the success of the Vesta, Starfleet was looking that it might have to abandon its traditional appearance in order to build Slipstream capable ships. Eventually, it was discovered that Split Neck ships while not as maneuverable as pure QSD ships like the Vesta, could hold Quantum Slipstream velocities for longer and not get thrown out of it like Voyager did. So the Odyssey, Avenger and many other STO-era ships are moving towards double necks to let us do deep range exploration (or in the case of the Avenger, extremely rapid response to outside threats) and keep the traditional primary/secondary hull arrangement. Second, Torpedo tubes are in front of the sensor dome as an evolution of the Sovereign one. Third, that aft Shuttlebay is actually a modular component like the Bridge Module. The standard star cruiser variant uses the secondary shuttlebay unit, which is what you guys used. But the actual Enterprise-F uses the second module: a deploy-able Aquarius-class escort as an auxiliary craft. Now, unlike the Captain's Yacht, the Aquarius is a fully independent assault craft and transport vessel (its 1/3 the size of the Defiant) and requires a crew, but its also able to go on independent missions w/out her mothership. While's a pocket escort, and therefore more often used for combat missions, it still allows the Odyssey-class much more flexibility in mission profile.
sirboulevard Why is Starfleet equipping its most capable ships with Slipstream? Are they sending ships like into super-deep space explorations? Into the other quadrants? Like planned Voyager-type missions? "Starfleet command: you will set a course to Delta-Quadrant, the last coordinates Voyager was. Explore it on the way back to Alpha, but on 5th anniversary leave, wherever you are, back to Headquarters and report"? Lol
Novo Eduardo AC It did start that way I suppose, but in the STO 25th century a Dyson's Sphere was discovered that allowed for transwarp into the Delta Quadrant.
In STO, Starfleet just got access to a standing open long-distance gate to the Delta quadrant, AND diplomatic conditions with the Dominion have improved, so they're designing ships for the 'Four Quadrant Exploration initiative', looking to build out vessels for much longer exploration missions. The old 'Five Year Mission' is giving way to the 'Ten Year mission', and they need ships that could conceivably make the journey home more rapidly than Voyager could if their access to the Bajoran Wormhole or Solenae Dyson Sphere get unexpectedly cut off.
depends on if you have the most basic or not, the basic one released for the 2nd anniversary was a second shuttle bay, they added the escort for the C-store versions,
Thing is, in the supporting fiction, the Enterprise F specifically has all the bells and whistles from the c-store version, including the Aquarius module.
As I only brought the science variant, so no Aquarious boo. My headcannon is the aft section to my U.S.S. Ulysess is that is an advanced suite of sensor arrays and secondary shield grid as every ship has this almost Defiant sized area of custom space

One of my absolute favorite ship designs. It just has such grace. It's a fun ship in game. I love that instead of a Captain's Yacht it has a heavy hitting Light Escort ship (not unlike the Defiant class) tucked in the back.
Slipstream drive requires a modified deflector and direct linkage in to the computer to maintain the slipstream. If you recall Voyager used a shuttle to ride the forward edge and relay slipstream variances to the Starship. A larger deflector and sensor combination allied to fast linkage and course correction to stay in slipstream.
The explanation for the split neck was that the ship was designed with quantum slip stream technology in mind, and indeed the Odyssey can maintain a slip stream longer than other classes of ship.
I actually really love this design. It has the aggressive, long look of the Sovereign class but more more smooth features and the grandeur of a full exploration/heavy cruiser vessel I really dig this era (the STO era?)'s willingness to use striking black parts and lines to give a nice contrast to the overall white and grey colorscheme of the feddie ships. I know it's of dubious purpose (I've heard it's for the sake of slipstream drive.), but the double neck is interesting to me. You guys didn't show it but I also really like the bridge, at least on the Enterprise F. It is kind of really big and some would argue inefficient, but I love that there's a separate room (is it stellar cartography or some sort of navigation?) is a separate room below the front of the bridge, separated only by a staircase. It just makes it seem more like a multi segmented command center than a tiny bridge, which might fly in the face of the idea of easy access and efficiency, but it just gives off this vibe of the sheer size and grandeur of the Odyssey. At least it has an overall bonafide, sleek shape and theme to it again as well. I never did like the Enterprise-E's bridge (at least in the movies), it seemed so all over the place and ugly to me.
The change to the deflector size is due to it being able to be modified on the fly for things like redirecting energy to the dish to release a massive burst of energy without disabling the ship.
You guys forgot about the Aquarius escort ship that is attached at the rear of the ship. It is an independent assault craft smaller then the Defiant class. So the Odyssey can split into 3: the saucer, the engineering hull, and Aquarius class escort. Also, it has the best bridge design in the game.
a suggestion for consideration: rather than referring to the top or bottom of these ships, you use the terms "Dorsal" for referencing the top surface area directly or parts located thereof, and "Ventral" for the underside. you *are* discussing the anatomy of these ships, after all. :D and some of these are beastly. -hyuck also, something for inclusion into your Full Episode version concerning the Odyssey; it's saucer is referred to as the Chevron and therefor Chevron Separation - a term now applied to ships with a more arrowhead-like saucer design.
From what I understand this design was chosen because it made the committee actually stop and ask, "Why would Starfleet go with this design?" In the end they decided that the reason for the gap between primary and secondary hulls (and the dual necks) allowed it stay in Quantum Slipstream longer. Like the Prometheus-class, the Odyssey-class is designed to perform a saucer separation during combat, but in addition to the saucer it also has an escort ship docked in that forked section of the aft.
The Aquarius class IS an Escort-type ship. It's like they took a Defiant class and figured out how to fold it up to store in half the space. It operates in the Escort combat paradigm (primarily forward mounted weapons intended for dogfighting, rather than overlapping fore and aft weapon firing arcs, which optimizes broadsiding). It's even got quad phaser canons, a feature that can't be equipped on ships that AREN'T escorts.
One of the things I like about this class design (one of MANY) is this looks like it can go into an atmosphere and belong there. It is a fluid design that lends itself well to a fluidic environment.
Such a lovely sleek saucer. bulky, but still looks good. Lovely design. It’s a good continuation of the Enterprise. Also the big hangar door was built to accommodate the Aquarius Class Escort, specially built to go with the Odyssey Class.
The gap is for sustained transwarp well thats what it says in game, also the ship has a escort which detach from the back which would fit in that big shuttle bay door, for major repair's,
+Lee Wood correct. The Aquarius class Escort detaching is avalible on the Tactical version but can be equipped on either the Operations or Science versions aswell as the Tactical.
I was just making a point to something earlier that they mentioned in the video when they talked about that spare space at the aft of the ship that the Aquarius escort happened to occupy. I said that its usable on the Science and Tatical varients of this ship but probbly not the Operation and Star cruiser versions of this ship.
The secondary hull looks huge from the bottom, but it is not all the obtrusive since it molds into the rest of the ship like a manta ray. The ship looks like a creature acclimated to space with enough line and angle to be obviously constructed. This is a long range boulevard cruiser with a counter punch instead of a heavily armed multi function ship like the Sovereign class. This ship is capable of transwarp, that requires increased function from the deflector, it also means it uses a lot of power. I expect the second 'warpcore' is actually just a plain old antimatter reactor to help take up other loads when the warpcore is dedicated to propulsion.
The extra-large deflector dish and its direct connection to the computer core is probably something to do with the slipstream drive, don't you think? Warp power is channeled through a ship's deflector to create a slipstream, so it has to be pretty robust!
a Few things you appeared to miss, The Forward torpedo launchers are on the underside of the saucer, if you go to the image displayed at 9.00 you can clearly see them illuminated Red in the cut-out ( that looks almost like the Fed badge from certain angles ) The large shuttle bay is very understandable for an exploration ship, the option of having runabouts / delta flyer sized craft instead of shuttle-craft, means you can basically arrive at a star system and deploy science ships to every planet. i think its designed for simultaneous launch / retrieval side by side, so the larger door is required. they also mean in a combat situation, you can Saucer Separate, Launch the Escort AND launch the Runabouts, giving you a large amount of fire-power relatively quickly without having to wait for backup Other people have pointed out the Slipstream neck design and the Escort that docks to the Stern of the ship
@ Stewart the split neck configuration I last heard was actualy designed for helping the ship maintain high velocities when in Slipstream mode since this ship is capable of Quntam Slipstream mode.
I have an Odyssey and it's pretty awesome. I love the double neck and it's not a freaking beauty contest. It makes sense as a developement of the Sovereign with the bulk of the Galaxy moved into the secondary hull, not the goofy oval primary of the -D.
I love that you all are going into the realm of Star Trek Online ships. As a madman who roleplays extensively in STO (and makes an ungodly number of in-character shipfiles), this series always makes me grin. Keep up the good work! - @donariad
JUst on a note, the reason for the split neck is, as stated by STO, "The Odyssey's unique split saucer pylon reduces subspace wake at higher warp speeds". Interesting debate due to the ships size anyway but thats a debate for another day :-P Also shame I missed you guys at FCD Out Of The Ashes this year.
I wish they would have not used the split neck and kept the dish the same and that under v horseshoe like the E. Also add more voyager elements worked into that same look as it is an enterprise that lands if they want. A longer bottom than taper off the rear stern I wonder how that would look again landing in mind optional like Voyager.
The Odyssey class is a very beautiful ship that just fits perfectly into the Star Trek lineage, all my admiral level characters in STO have one as flagship. The design aesthetic is incredibly sleek and elegant perfectly marrying elegance and immense power. So wish they'd introduce it to the canon.
So, wait... you own TWO Odyssey class starships in STO, and you still don't know: a) where the torpedo tubes are; b) that the blue one is a Science variant; c) that the Tactical variant docks an Aquarius class Escort in it's tail end?
What you are seeing as "fins" is the dock for the Aquarius Escort. You are seeing the walls. Think of its shape as an individual slip at a marina. It has no floor or ceiling, so when the escort is launched, it leaves a U-shaped cut-out. In-game the ship has 8 weapons slots, 4 fore and 4 aft.
Loads of people have explained the split neck so I'll point out that I read the double computers and long deflector array are to enable quantum slip stream and transwarp use along with warp drive. It's also listed as one of the biggest ships in Starfleet!
Thanks for making this video, I just upgraded to the tier 6 version of this ship, I use the tactical T6 saucer and the standard hull and engines. I know it would be to much to hope but I do want this to be the ship that is seen in the new series :)
If I remember correctly when it first came out on Star Trek online they said the opening was to allow for better at slipstream transition in and out and for a faster slipstream speed
the concept behind the odyssey is basically, have a redundancy for your systems, and have a redundancy for that redundancy, Q was (according to lore) the designer of the ship and hated how fragile the starfleet vessels were since they had so many weaknesses, so he designed this ship to become a brutal tank that could stay operational even if half the ships systems had failed (the nacelles were even made so that the machinery inside was in pairs, there appeared to be 2 very long nacelles but there were actually 4 nacelles in 2 housings) the deflector section has its own computer core and the saucer has its own dilithium reactor because the odyssey was actually 2 ships merged into one. (3 ships with the defiant variant)
The large computer core that connects to the usually large deflector is for navigation. The hole in the neck along with the large warp core is all for Quantum Slipstream drive. The computer core is to help correct for the problems that come with the slipstream and the hole in the neck helps the slipstream form. These integrations made the Odyssey Class have the longest and fastest times in the slipstream of any other ship.
also they explained why the ship has a dual neck configuration, 2 reasons: 1. the ship becomes more capable of entering slipspace when going into warp which lessen the warpdrive charging time by half (great for retreating) 2. in light of multiple failures of starfleet ships having inherent "issues" with their ships neck constantly being targeted as a weak point to sever the reactor from the saucer, they redesigned the system so that it would have a redundancy by having 2 necks instead of 1 regular neck and the reason why they didn't just make the neck 1 piece being big and chunky is because of how the shape of the neck affects the transwarp slipstream wake, the larger the profile the greater the resistance against slipspace and the harder to continue operating the warp drive for longer durations the fact that its done the way it is makes it able to warp in faster and stay in warp for much longer which makes for very good use in super long range exploration
I like the more finished look on ships, the tesselation of individual plates speaks of haste, like the ship was a wartime build or something where people are not worrying about fit or finish. Engineers on ships competing over a couple percentage points of efficiency, indicate fit and finish would be im potant during peacetime.
The size might be pushing Star Fleet warp technology, it might have been necessary to have the dual neck and empty space so as to reduce mass to acceptable levels?
I agree with Capt. Foley, I feel that the neck should be filled in, and maybe brought the lines down around the deflector, like the Sovereign class. I also don't have the Odyssey class, I have the Galaxy dreadnaught, it's my ultimate weapon.
That 'protected docking bay' you saw is actually the docking port for a federation destroyer class (defiant sized) ship. It is the star trek version of the UNSC Infinity's ability to house and launch smaller capital ships. The split neck has something to do with warp travel efficiency.
I distinctly remember something about the 'gap'in the neck is supposed to assist in slipstream or something to that effect (according to STO bio at least). I should know I got one! :P
I got myself both the tier 5 and tier 6 bundles of this ship, I just love to fly it. I however do not like it becoming pretty much obsolete as tier 5 variant (even the T5U) compared to the tier 6 ships, with the first tier 6 ships being released it was instantly obsolete and it never had useful consoles to start with. The tier 6 variants are a huge improvement over the tier 5's. Even has new consoles that are actually pretty useful! Worker bee's console: Would be fun if it was useful, but those things die nearly instantly while not doing much good for you or your allies. So this console is best to be avoided at all times. This may also explain the huge hangar bay doors on the rear side of the saucer section, worker bees are a different size then shuttles (mostly smaller) but it still does need a lot more space for shuttles and possible extra small ships. Chevron separation console: The old saucer separation, always handy to have as option! Unfortunately it does NOT have the capability to do full impulse outside of combat and it makes the chevron part rather weak. Perhaps this is corrected when your gear is fully optimized, but so far I can not verify that. This feature is actually designed to be similar to the USS Prometheus, the saucer and secondary hull were designed to be 2 ships on their own to fight off enemies. That is why it is shaped like it is. You can also see phaser beam strips on the secondary hull montage point normally hidden when the chevron is connected to it. Aquarius Shuttle console: Instead of a captain's yacht, you have this shuttle which is basically a smaller defiant style ship. Excellent idea, but unfortunately it is as weak as it can be. Place the Aquarius in a 1 on 1 match with the Pathfinder's shuttle and it will loose in no time. You will need 4 to 6 Aquarius shuttles to beat 1 Pathfinder shuttle which basically shows how weak it is. This is a seriously missed opportunity on a shuttle console that could have been the best thing out there. For the flagship of the Federation to be beaten down so quickly it's rather a laughable thing. For a new Enterprise F TV series, it would of course be great to see the consoles actually being added into the series. It would allow a lot of interesting ideas for episodes. Each has it's great capabilities, which are unfortunately in the game rather limited to being no more then junk.
You know, one ship I've always had a fondness for was the proxima class. I like the look of two secondary hulls and deflectors with four warp nacelles. It feels somewhat like the odyssey class took some inspiration from that general sort of design. It's almost like it melded a few different design concepts together.
To see this Enterprise and (preferably in my opinion) Captain Shon would be awesome. A show about the Enterprise's (NCC-1701-F) adventures throughout STO's timeline would be fascinating, perhaps introducing Va'kel through his transfer from the Belfast to the Enterprise, even if they wrote it off as an alternate timeline to STP's timeline.
I love the radness of this ship , I did not realise there was a F modal , but that is what happens when I have no STOL ,,,,,, one day ,,,,,, but I like how it seems to be a mix of the original enterprise C and E , and it rely looks like a proper exploring ship
I liked this one it solved the pencil neck issue. There were others in the contest that I liked just as much. One actually had an 'oreo' feel to it with the saucer connected to engineering with a fair amount of filling between with some living and lab space. The odyssey is definately a fighting cruiser.
Don't have an Odyssey in my fleet, but it is on the list for one of my other characters when they level up. The few missions I have run where the Enterprise-F is present are fun, and the ship seems to be able to take a lot of punishment. The aft bay is more for the Aquarius class Escort, and I tend to agree with some of the other comments that the split neck seems to be more for the slipstream. Although, might pick one up early since they are releasing a T6 flagship version of the Odyssey...
The backstory for the space between the saucer and the engineering hull is that it's very efficient at slipstream velocities. That might explain the large deflector dish. The Odyssey also carries an auxiliary escort vessel called the Aquarius. It's located at the very aft of the engineering hull. That's the deflector dish you saw. The free Odyssey does not have the Aquarius but the 3 pack Odyssey bundle ships do have the visual. The Aquarius is about a quarter to a third the size of a Defiant class so it's a legitimate small ship not a runabout or captains yacht. You can actually launch the Aquarius as a pet when using the Odyssey or purchase and use the Aquarius it's self in game. The Forward Torpedo launchers are located on the underside of the saucer on the black cresent forward of the shiny dome. Overall I was very impressed with the Odyssey design. Great progression from the Sovereign to a ship that's larger than the Galaxy as almost to say "let's get back to being explorers" ship.
+pgiovanettijr Yes the Aquarius can be used in combat. I used to use it on my Engineer captain for extra DPS and heal the crap out of it since at that time my Engie was set up as a pure healer for PvP and PvE I needed as much damage help as I could get.
+ErokCherokee We also know for a fact the Ent-F had that Aux craft as Captain Shon used it in a mission (granted the Aquarius was destroyed in said mission but it's possible it got replaced)
+CARL EDWARDS mhm There are already a few of the flagships out for the feds the kligons and Romulans. My guess that a flagship version of this and many more are on Cryptics list to come.
+Blerp “Tuskin” Lerp They're *all* called "Flagships" as they're based on the "flagship' classes of each faction: Odyssey (Enterprise) for the Federation, Bortasqu' for the Klingons, and Scimitar (Lleiset) for the Romulans (technically, the Leiset is a Tulwar, but as that's just an alternate skin for the Scimitar, it still counts).
+Blerp “Tuskin” Lerp The new ships are all considered T6 "flagships," as they're based on the flagship classes for each faction: Odyssey-class (Enterprise) for the Federation, Bortasqu'-class (Bortasqu') for the Klingons, and Scimitar (Lleiset, technically a Tulwar, but still counts) for the Romulans.
Like the TOS Enterprise, the Odyssey looks lovely from any angle. With all due respect to Capt. Foley about his comment saying he doesn’t know if this could be the next Enterprise. Let me prove him wrong: This starship is fantastic, fabulous, & frickin’ rad! Therefore its Enterprise F.... (drop mic😎🖖)
Maybe they didnt put the seperation point in the (2) neck(s) because those necks need all the structural strength that you an get, and putting clamps and seperation lines in there would create structural weaknesses that could too easily be exploited with some well aimed shots to the neck. And you don't want to have your flagship break apart midfight at one of those 2 necks. :)
To me, the Odyssey looks like the designer took clear influence from the Intrepid class and then applied a lot of that to the Sovereign, then threw in a dash of his own design; you can clearly see it in the concept art.
I got the original version during the anniversary event. Unfortunately, it wasn't eligible for the T5-U upgrade. But there are both T5 and T6 versions now.
maybe the middle part also seperates, it could serve as an emergency 'pod" that can land on planets in case of big big trouble, (think of the D that crashed, an planetary lander would have been usefull) it would also be protected by the bottom and top part, it would also decouple very fast because of the small connection to the deflector
I have one of these on STO it's got a great bridge interior it's a cool looking ship. I like the two prong neck as well. The bridge has a view screen and a viewing window it's a massive bridge it's got two levels. My ship has been equipped with blue Andorian phasers and has a experimental proton weapon and various torpedo types depending . The captain of that ship is Andorian. You didn't mention it has an Aquarius Escort ship it can launch out of its aft section.
I've been looking forward to this one. The design has grown on me. I did not initially like this ship. I still don't think it's nearly as beautiful as the Sovereign Class. There are a few things I would change, but the biggest change would have to be moving the nacelles forward ever so slightly. There's too much empty space between the aft edge of the saucer and the bussard collectors. I do like that the ship is huge. The Enterprise is meant to be the largest and most powerful ship in the fleet, and this ship does fit that description. Only 2 necks. The design with the two necks was drawing off of the old Oberth Class, as I understand, it was meant to indicate that this ship was meant for science and exploration as well as combat. Torpedo launchers are located in the forward sections of the secondary hull. I have an Odyssey, but I'm not ditching my Sovereign for it. SLEEEEEK!! oops, sorry.... RAAAAAD!
The Odyssey class is my absolute favorite! From it's sleek appearance to it's size and even the name of the class; Odyssey. I love everything about this ship! I've always felt that it's the perfect blend of the Sovereign and Galaxy classes. It's rad!
Same. It is large and gorgeous
When i first saw the Odyssey Class i thought:
Hey, the Intrepid and Sovereign class have a baby? Nice!!
Really think the split neck was suppose to help with slip stream from what I recall. The Avenger in STO also reflected this as well in it's design.
+Darby “Fox” Conway well as i found. It actualy helps to maintain stable slipstream speeds at high velocity.
Hence the necks Split Saucer Pylon design.
thought so, thank you :)
+Darby “Fox” Conway That is its best feature. Very unique.
I'd have to agree :) I wish I wasn't traveling the weekend they were giving them away lol. Love the look of the ship but I'd never pay for it haha.
+Darby “Fox” Conway Fortunately, you can get an odyssey from the fleet yards for 200,000 fleet credit (no modules required). she's not quite as good as the C-store variant, but she's not bad either.

The size of the deflector is likely related to the fact that this ship was designed to employ a slipstream drive.

+Trekyards you should review the refits of this ship that were recently addedand the new fed carrier
The duel neck section was designed to improve quantum slipstream speeds and help with saucer separation
Perfect timing on the release of this vid! Good work, gents!
+Oden Knight Thanks! Was an accident haha!
Leo Nielson which escort ship? Which class?
Aquarius. It's not an escort though.
I love the analysis you guys do of federation ships. Good work.
One of the things I like about this class design (one of MANY) is this looks like it can go into an atmosphere and belong there. It is a fluid design that lends itself well to a fluidic environment.
🖖😎👍It's a very cool and very nicely looking starship indeed, Any ways you guys did a very great job as always indeed👌.
Such a lovely sleek saucer. bulky, but still looks good. Lovely design. It’s a good continuation of the Enterprise. Also the big hangar door was built to accommodate the Aquarius Class Escort, specially built to go with the Odyssey Class.
I initially thought this would be boring, but like the Nu Trek Enterprise it grows on you. Now a few episodes in its kinda funny, great job guys.
the nu enterprise from dis was something i liked at 1st because of the lit nacelles but then i saw the taper and hated it
The gap is for sustained transwarp well thats what it says in game, also the ship has a escort which detach from the back which would fit in that big shuttle bay door, for major repair's,
+Lee Wood correct. The Aquarius class Escort detaching is avalible on the Tactical version but can be equipped on either the Operations or Science versions aswell as the Tactical.
I know, your point is?.
I was just making a point to something earlier that they mentioned in the video when they talked about that spare space at the aft of the ship that the Aquarius escort happened to occupy. I said that its usable on the Science and Tatical varients of this ship but probbly not the Operation and Star cruiser versions of this ship.
I was also stunned to find out that "rad" is back. Great episode!
*It looks like the Enterprise-E was crossed with the Voyager class IMO!* 👍😎🍺🍻🍺
So intrepid and sovereign I agree
The extra-large deflector dish and its direct connection to the computer core is probably something to do with the slipstream drive, don't you think? Warp power is channeled through a ship's deflector to create a slipstream, so it has to be pretty robust!
a Few things you appeared to miss,
The Forward torpedo launchers are on the underside of the saucer, if you go to the image displayed at 9.00 you can clearly see them illuminated Red in the cut-out ( that looks almost like the Fed badge from certain angles )
The large shuttle bay is very understandable for an exploration ship, the option of having runabouts / delta flyer sized craft instead of shuttle-craft, means you can basically arrive at a star system and deploy science ships to every planet. i think its designed for simultaneous launch / retrieval side by side, so the larger door is required. they also mean in a combat situation, you can Saucer Separate, Launch the Escort AND launch the Runabouts, giving you a large amount of fire-power relatively quickly without having to wait for backup
Other people have pointed out the Slipstream neck design and the Escort that docks to the Stern of the ship
@ Stewart the split neck configuration I last heard was actualy designed for helping the ship maintain high velocities when in Slipstream mode since this ship is capable of Quntam Slipstream mode.
The big shuttle bay door... this ship is so badass it has "Defiants" as shuttlecraft
Fantastic design. Rad! :)
Really nice work, Adam.
This is one of my favorite ship classes.
Great vid, well done guys!
I have an Odyssey and it's pretty awesome. I love the double neck and it's not a freaking beauty contest. It makes sense as a developement of the Sovereign with the bulk of the Galaxy moved into the secondary hull, not the goofy oval primary of the -D.
It is the raddest ship I don't have and the T6 versions were launched today too: they're even radder in some ways!
Rad episode guys!
I love that you all are going into the realm of Star Trek Online ships. As a madman who roleplays extensively in STO (and makes an ungodly number of in-character shipfiles), this series always makes me grin.
Keep up the good work!
- @donariad
*Keep in mind, The Enterprise D had a lot of physical cargo space which was one of the reasons the ship was designed as BIG as it was*
The in-game model was recently updated, which added a few more details and made the overall design even better.
JUst on a note, the reason for the split neck is, as stated by STO, "The Odyssey's unique split saucer pylon reduces subspace wake at higher warp speeds". Interesting debate due to the ships size anyway but thats a debate for another day :-P
Also shame I missed you guys at FCD Out Of The Ashes this year.
EroomYrrah Pixie stix. 😂😂😂
So, wait... you own TWO Odyssey class starships in STO, and you still don't know: a) where the torpedo tubes are; b) that the blue one is a Science variant; c) that the Tactical variant docks an Aquarius class Escort in it's tail end?
very timely video. T6 Odyssey just revealed. rad (really awesome design)
What you are seeing as "fins" is the dock for the Aquarius Escort. You are seeing the walls. Think of its shape as an individual slip at a marina. It has no floor or ceiling, so when the escort is launched, it leaves a U-shaped cut-out. In-game the ship has 8 weapons slots, 4 fore and 4 aft.
i've loved this class since the first time i saw it. Bought a tier 6 version almost immediately.
I love everything about this ship, it's so rad
The torpedo launchers are on the saucer like the original constitution class
I really wish you guys post links to some of these schematics you find.
The bridge is amazing on the Odyssey
the concept behind the odyssey is basically, have a redundancy for your systems, and have a redundancy for that redundancy, Q was (according to lore) the designer of the ship and hated how fragile the starfleet vessels were since they had so many weaknesses, so he designed this ship to become a brutal tank that could stay operational even if half the ships systems had failed (the nacelles were even made so that the machinery inside was in pairs, there appeared to be 2 very long nacelles but there were actually 4 nacelles in 2 housings) the deflector section has its own computer core and the saucer has its own dilithium reactor because the odyssey was actually 2 ships merged into one.
I get the impression that the deflector is moving up towards the saucer again which would make sense with it leading to the J.
also they explained why the ship has a dual neck configuration, 2 reasons:
1. the ship becomes more capable of entering slipspace when going into warp which lessen the warpdrive charging time by half (great for retreating)
2. in light of multiple failures of starfleet ships having inherent "issues" with their ships neck constantly being targeted as a weak point to sever the reactor from the saucer, they redesigned the system so that it would have a redundancy by having 2 necks instead of 1 regular neck
and the reason why they didn't just make the neck 1 piece being big and chunky is because of how the shape of the neck affects the transwarp slipstream wake, the larger the profile the greater the resistance against slipspace and the harder to continue operating the warp drive for longer durations
the fact that its done the way it is makes it able to warp in faster and stay in warp for much longer which makes for very good use in super long range exploration
I don;t get ppl hating this i think it's one of the better designs and a real advanced starfleet ship
I'm a big fan of the Odyssey Class myself. I have one myself, and it is most definitely... rad. :)
That 'protected docking bay' you saw is actually the docking port for a federation destroyer class (defiant sized) ship. It is the star trek version of the UNSC Infinity's ability to house and launch smaller capital ships. The split neck has something to do with warp travel efficiency.
Lovely ship, got the T6 tactical Oddy a while back and it's a beautiful ship in the type 7 colour skin
+Blood Raven star trek 2017.....ya never know.
A show about the Enterprise's (NCC-1701-F) adventures throughout STO's timeline would be fascinating, perhaps introducing Va'kel through his transfer from the Belfast to the Enterprise, even if they wrote it off as an alternate timeline to STP's timeline.
i should mention that the saucer detaches just like the enterprise D and has a variant with a compacted defiant class wedged into its aft section
I think that the warp core is one of the dual core types they adapted to to protect sub space.
The saucer separation on this variant looks great. I just wish they'd put in those Prometheus style warp nacelles in the saucer section.
+SampoPaalanen Yes I have played STO too...
STO is making a tier 6 flagship version I hear.
+CARL EDWARDS Yup, the T6 version should hit Holodeck tomorrow.
+Blerp “Tuskin” Lerp The new ships are all considered T6 "flagships," as they're based on the
flagship classes for each faction: Odyssey-class (Enterprise) for the
Federation, Bortasqu'-class (Bortasqu') for the Klingons, and Scimitar
(Lleiset, technically a Tulwar, but still counts) for the Romulans.
LOL now thats where your wrong. xD Im not really saying that about every T6 ship xD.
Favorite ship design closely followed by the Excelsior refit class
Oo the rear shuttle hatch thing is for the Icarus class escort that comes with all Odyssey class starships
+RockHound32 Its actually an aquarius class
i stand corrected
the separation between the neck struts is in universe is that allows safer transwarp speeds
The primary cargo/shuttle bay had to be bigger, to compensate for the loss of cargo space due to the Aquarius support craft and it's launch platform.
The Trekyards channel is pretty RAD!
In my opinion it is the GREATEST looking ship ever made. And I would so love to see it as the enterprise in a show
Agreed.
Lord Testkill Good insight
Rad, very great ship. I have both the Tier 5 and tier 6 versions.
You guys should revisit this Enterprise since it had a refit to the Yorktown refit
RAAAAAD!
congratz to adam, ur ship design is now officially canon after 11 yrs
You guys should have waited a few days and took a look at the three new variants released last week of the ship. They really add.
