You guys would probably prefer the Exeter-class variant. That being said, the Excalibur was designed in-universe for two purposes: 1) It was designed to kind of rebuild the Starfleet "brand" as it were during a decade of war and conflict by invoking the imagery of Kirk's Enterprise and 2) a dual mission purpose: to give freshly promoted captains something to cut their teeth on and serve as a resupply ship (this is literally a Starfleet Cargo Vessel).
Of the starships designed for STO at launch, the Excalibur was definitely one of the best. Compared with the likes of the star cruisers, it definitely gets my vote. Now having to choose between using this skin and the actual Connie Refit, since they're both for the T2 Cruiser, I'll take the Connie every time. Also, image 3 is not the full stock Excalibur design. The saucer and nacelles have been changed in that image. I believe they belong to the now defunct Vesper Class, which was an unsuccessful attempt to create a "new" Excelsior. Image 4 is the full Vesper Class. Different ship from the Excalibur.
+WakeRoberts Indeed you are correct: I don't know when they took the Vesper out though. I posted some picks to the FB thread for illustrative purposes.
According to the painter of TMP model and Mr. Scotts guide of the enterprise, TMP era enterprise has the lifeboats along the outer hull of the cargo bay (secondary hull). One of the painters of the model said the plan was to paint the outlines of the lifeboats on the secondary hull along the area of the cargo bay but they ran out of time to when they needed to start filming TMP. There was 0 talk of lifeboats in the primary hull. in one of the shots of the cargo bay in TMP when Kirk comes aboard you can see if you freeze frame the markings on the outer cargo bay wall marking a lifeboat. They simply didn't have the time to paint the external outline on the model.
I have a Scimitar Dreadnought at the moment that I quite like. I also have a Dominion Dreadnought Carrier and a Mirror Universe Guardian Cruiser and a Dauntless class as well. I guess those are the ones ive enjoyed the most in game
I kind of wish a post-Voyager series would be made that legitimately puts this starship class (and maybe a couple other STO exclusive starships) into the on-screen canon.
I'm with you on the options for the Excalibur class in STO. I have one on one of my captains and the only configuration I really liked was using mostly the Sovereign styled parts though I used one of the more bulky struts for it which added a little bit of the Ambassador class sight lines with lowered and more outward placed nacelles. The 'ambassador class' styled saucer you refer to in the vid is far too deep to be an Ambassador class saucer though it probably does take many cues from it. When I looked at that one it made the entire ship look far too front heavy and disproportionate. Overall I do like their attempt at making a TNG+ era styled Constitution class but they all just feel a slight bit off, either too compressed or too elongated. However, I think it's hard to mess with such awesome as well as historical designs as we've had over the decades of Trek. Side note: the Fed. ship I enjoy the most on my captains is a modified Prometheus, which uses several parts from the Cerberus variant which has rearward swept struts. Overall it looks like a space roadster with teeth.
I shelled out for the Exeter, but I used the Connie costume on my fed main till I encountered the Nova class... then she was left in the water. admittedly, back then, there were no cruiser commands...
Probably already said, but the ship in the fourth and seventh images is the Vesper class, one of the alternative costumes for the Tier 2 Cruiser (the other basic variant being the Connie Refit). When you do the full episode you really should look at these together, also the Exeter class (the store variant).
I recently used this ship, in STO and it is a good ship in standard form like this. However, I replaced the neck and the nacelle pylons. The Excalibur skin has four choices with the kitbash that you can make. In this they are the Constitution [refit], Vesper [more of a Excelisor class look] and the Exeter clas. In this I replaced the neck on the standard with the Vesper, and the pylons with the classic Constitutional [refit] class. It performs very good with the right things on it. Most of the time you have the same warp speed as a Constitution would have from TOS [Warp 7.5 to 8] depending on your build of ship. The only problem is its turn speed its okay but probably not accurate for the first true cruiser you pilot in the game. There is some reasons behind the resurrection of the Constitution class type of starship. The dominion war, was the main thing. In this 2385, the first one came out to replace the aging Norway class design and some of the older Miranda's in the fleet. With this they were initially designed as a smaller version of the Sovereign Class which was highly successful during the war. However, with a smaller crew and a feel of a great ship. They were made to be produced faster than any other cruiser-type ship in the fleet by 2390 they were coming off the line nearly every month with one. The USS Kirk, named after James T. Kirk is of the Excalibur class and is featured with Lt. Commander Miral Paris in the game. She is the security chief on board, and for the first part of the Klingon War deals with that ship.
Interesting tidbit... I have played many hours and flown many ships but when I think of STO, I think of this ship... but I have never flown the Excalibur...
I’m gonna resurrect comments here... Eaglemoss please read this. Make this your. Next Star Trek Online ship. Cmon, it was the first ship that STO put forward in promotional material. It’s classic and modern at the same time. Would buy. Just a suggestion, make the nacelles struts metal, they are really weak and droopy on 3d printed models.
I didn't care much for the cruiser variants either for most of the same reasons. They just looked too odd or hodgepodged together, with the exception of the Exeter class. Now that is a beautiful reimagining of what a 25th century Constitution would look like
lol...if you really didn't enjoyed those ships, trying to think about 25th to 32nd century of variant ships. Much more different sizes and populsion systems would fresh your thoughts.
Gents, if you have any pull with Eaglemoss, please tell them that this ship needs to be in their STO lineup! The original marketing ship is noticeably absent from their lineup, in favor of all their newfangled kitbash ships!
I'll be honest, I just nick the Nacelles and neck from the Excalibur and stick them on the Connie refit and think of it as an even further refitted connie.
I've always liked this design. As for the bridge module I think its just added armor. After all its been a few hundred years I,m sure the foe's of the federation learned where to focus fire to take out a bridge. i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad334/rangerguy001/2016-01-25_00009_zpsz9s76g3r.jpg
After all these years, since the premiere of TNG, I now know what has put me off the newer starship designs. It's the convex saucer shape. It just doesn't look good. The TOS concave saucer designs are much more flattering and don't make the ships look like they just ate a Big Mac meal at McDonald's. I'm over the TNG designs, quite honestly. I'd take the JJ-prise over these ships any day of the week. I really hope the new show, regardless of the time period, ditches the TNG aesthetic completely. And it's not like the TNG saucer shapes are time period specific. The NX-01 had a convex saucer. It's time for Starfleet to go TOS retro. I'm done with the chubby starships. haha Oh, and the colour scheming. The cream colour of the Galaxy Class ships is a nope. And though the darker greys of the Sovereign ships is an improvement, it's no match for the TOS white/soft grey. The white just looks more majestic on the screen, with the lights highlighting the ship. The USS Franklin is on the right track, at least in regards to the saucer shape. The colour makes sense for the time period, though. Great video, as always. :)
Though I too tend to like "canon" ships I liked this one alright back in the day though I preferred the saucer swapped out with the refit version...unfortunately no real visible shuttle bay unless they have updated it since then. Beauty shot from back in the day i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah238/Skippy2k81/Achilles_zpscty0u41d.jpg

The indentation at the front of the saucer is most likely either a sensor or weapons array or where they launch probes from
Good episode, I always really enjoy your take on the STO ships
+Skyla Jade Forster (Sky) And what is the best, personally for you Sky ship in STO? The most fun you had with.
I have a Scimitar Dreadnought at the moment that I quite like. I also have a Dominion Dreadnought Carrier and a Mirror Universe Guardian Cruiser and a Dauntless class as well. I guess those are the ones ive enjoyed the most in game
+Skyla Jade Forster (Sky) I loved the Risian Luxury the most myself :3
this gives me the sense of an ambassador class from the side view
I kind of wish a post-Voyager series would be made that legitimately puts this starship class (and maybe a couple other STO exclusive starships) into the on-screen canon.

Does it need to see a dentist often?
I shelled out for the Exeter, but I used the Connie costume on my fed main till I encountered the Nova class... then she was left in the water. admittedly, back then, there were no cruiser commands...
the excelsior variant looks like it has 4 beer guts one on each nacelle one on the secondary hull and the last on the saucer

This is what I wish the JJ-Enterprise looked like.
U on sto?.. 2020?
the excalibur class is just 1 of 4 styles for the cruiser class ship, you can user the original movie style constitution class as well
Good job, guys! I would love to see what you guys think of the Odyssey Class!
+Adam Rogers Believe us we are getting to her...these are just the warm ups!
You can mix and match parts and make this ship look gorgeous.
Yup, Vesper or Connie Saucer and Hull and BAM

I like the next to last ship looks like an Ambassador class.
If I want Wesley Crusher a Captain could happen in Star Trek Online or star Trek Timelie?
You guys really should look at the exit or class because I think you would love it a lot more.
You should also look at the 'premium' (C-store) variant (the 'Regent' class iirc). Much bigger saucer, but a more classic style.
~JD
the saucer section looks more like the nx class saucer.
Have you guys done a video on the Akira Class?
Coming soon.
how do you unlock it?
did you guys do the exeter class
I just now noticed how much I've gotten used to Commander Cockings mumblyness! lol
Iknowwutumeanman!
That excelsior looking ship is a different class from the last time I played. I'd go check because I think it's not an Excalibur
Yeah realized that after. Sorry man. I think it's a Vespa class or something??
+Trekyards Vesper Class is the Excelsior style refit sto.gamepedia.com/Cruiser_(Federation)#Vesper-class
+Mzrts12 Yeah, also the game's true Excelsior refit is the Resolute class.
+Trekyards hey it's all good. Love the work, just saw that and giggled a bit
+Trekyards Can you do one of the Risian Luxury Crusier? It's my fav STO ship. :)And please do the Constellation one day. :3
yes i had one of those but really the wierds ones so far for me is the imperial class base on the soreveign
I’m gonna resurrect comments here... Eaglemoss please read this. Make this your. Next Star Trek Online ship. Cmon, it was the first ship that STO put forward in promotional material. It’s classic and modern at the same time. Would buy.

I love this ship . will it ever be a collectible from eagle mods?
9:55 That's not an Excalibur class, that's a Vesper class
I love the refit design style that's this ship is showcasing but not the biggest fan of the ship itself
Funny how I’m still on the fence about this design. Love the name though
Is the ship coming out of Warp
I didn't care much for the cruiser variants either for most of the same reasons. They just looked too odd or hodgepodged together, with the exception of the Exeter class. Now that is a beautiful reimagining of what a 25th century Constitution would look like
+Cane McKeyton Each to their own, Cane. Nice thing of STO is the ability to make your ship look how you want. ^_^
+TheCastellan this is true. It is nice that you can mix and match parts together in this game
lol...if you really didn't enjoyed those ships, trying to think about 25th to 32nd century of variant ships. Much more different sizes and populsion systems would fresh your thoughts.
One thing which irritated me about Picards ending episode for season 1 is why didn’t they use ships from STO
imagen if riker showed up in the f with a good-sized amount of sovrine class ships instead
I meant moss?
New drinking game... Take a shot everytime Samuel says the word sleek...
+Eliu Ortiz ~pictures the emergency room full of folks~ o.o;;
+Eliu Ortiz Or worse...drink when either of them says "interesting....."
Gents, if you have any pull with Eaglemoss, please tell them that this ship needs to be in their STO lineup! The original marketing ship is noticeably absent from their lineup, in favor of all their newfangled kitbash ships!
You guys will probably like the STO Exeter Class a bit better.
cool
I'll be honest, I just nick the Nacelles and neck from the Excalibur and stick them on the Connie refit and think of it as an even further refitted connie.
about 1,017 feet?.. thats tiny...less then half the size of the enterprise E which was 2296 feet long and the enterprise d which was 2100 feet long
It's around the size of the original Enterprise. That's the whole point.
Star Trek Online PC Game does it work on Windows 10 with Timeline add on pack do you pay to play the game ?
Greetings all, is anyone still here 2020..??? Sto.. 2020.on xbox one?..
Need some sto friends and company
It was a nice ship to have early on but once I hit commander, I was all over the Cheyenne with Dakota nacelles
I want a Sovereign with the Galaxy nacelles and Ambassador struts! 😆
I've always liked this design. As for the bridge module I think its just added armor. After all its been a few hundred years I,m sure the foe's of the federation learned where to focus fire to take out a bridge.

Skin just had a remaster in the game
Not fond of it myself. I have gone for canon ships in the game. I think i went with a sabre class at this tier.
+shinjofox I went with the Rhode Island myself, I like the shape better
+Blood Raven I went with the Nova Class for my scientist.
shinjofox fun little ship at low level

Great video, as always. :)
Nothing wrong with the Excelsior Class, Capt Foley... The saucer in this ship is waaaaay too deep...
its the Constitution, but doesn't look like it's from the 60s, and is better in every way.
ITS A GREAT SHIP AND I HOPE IT CAN GO T-6 SINCE CBS SAID NO TO A ENTERPRISE T-6
Though I too tend to like "canon" ships I liked this one alright back in the day though I preferred the saucer swapped out with the refit version...unfortunately no real visible shuttle bay unless they have updated it since then. I find this ship fugly IMO
Sleek
Why give such a ugly ship such a great name? This class does nothing for my head or my heart.
+Ryan Hickman It's not ugly for some of us, Sir. :)
it's ugly like most sto designs.
