I love this guy. I subscribed after seeing the first video from him because you can tell he's an honest man and tells it like it is and knows what he's talking about. No marketing BS or hidden agenda. I've learned all kinds of things I never knew I needed to know. Also he showed me things I've always wondered, but nobody talks about, like the time he said "watch this guys" and stuffed a REAL header tube up against a flowing exhaust port to show what happens when the air is forced to turn 90 degrees like ALL headers do. The flow was affected significantly. Really gets you thinking about headers that "cheat," that is the tube is not tangent to the head flange surface in order to make the header easier to design, manufacture or to simply work in an impossible chassis. I want this man to do my next set of heads IF I'm able to afford another set AND if the parts are even available by the time Biden and Pelosi are done with this country and the rest of the world. Thanks Eric.
Rayfield, these heads work very well. And they are almost perfect right outta the box. Very good heads for the Sportsman type racers. Big punch for a fair amount of money. This fellow here knows what he's talking about. I've been flow testing over 40 years and I watch and listen just to see where he's at. He's a respectable person in the Feild. I'll say that for him 💯 👍
Excellent! I am a head porter in .CA I get alot of PW heads which are not always. But often a china copy of a promaxx. Which means we have to now consider if what we buy is a china copy. Or a china copy of a china copy of a american head cast in china. So I give up. It all means donut anymore. Because I cant get enough parts to complete a lawnmower. Anyway, great video as usual.
Looking at the ports, that appears to be an investment casting. Which creates a much finer/smoother surface than a sand casting. It also makes shapes and lines in the castings much more defined.
Good video! One thing you should bring up on SBC heads evaluations is whether it's angle plug or straight plug. Not all of us have headers that play nice with angle plug heads.
I just looked at the ProMaxx website, and they list the 185X as straight only, the 200X as angle only, and the 215X as available in both,. Part number 9215S or 9215A (for bare heads). Personally,I think the 200's should have both options, too.
Oh, ok they told me they only had straight in 185. But I wasnt interested in the 215 at the time so didnt really look at it. I agree, the 200 should be in straight plug, especially since that will cover pretty much any sbc. And angle as an option.
The Pontiac heads that Runt Pittman made for the 1995 Daytona 500 winning #4 MonteCarlo Kodak car were 23 degree heads remachined to 18 degrees. They had 44.5 cc chambers, and 259 runners and raised intakes. They flowed to the limit of the 850 Holley mandated by Nascar. The exhaust ports were 2" matched to the headers and the primaries went all the way back to the gearbox and 3.5 inch collectors to a cross box. I'd be interested in getting your opinion.
Bought a set of these complete through jegs over the winter for ~$1260 complete for hyd. rlr., .600 lift, angle plug, 8mm stems. I think promaxx advertised them at 305cfm, figured they would fall 10-15cfm short of that and still be a deal. Glad I wasn't swindled.
Eric can you please recommend a set of heads for my sbc just to face on the street on the weekends and god to the car shows and something that performs really good. Im so confused there's so many types on the market now. Thx.
Great info, we was thinking of getting the Project X or AFR 220 heads for our 383. How much is it to port the Project X head. I am assuming a port job on the Project X head would have it better than the AFR 220 CNC head???
Was wondering if this head would be to big for a built up 355 sbc, and if so could you please recommend something, I do plan on possibly getting something from you, love your videos, honesty and would like to support your business TIA
Awesome job as usual Eric. Curious what will happen after the chambers are smoothed out. Was thinking about getting these on a 13:5 to 1 solid roller 385.
Hi Are you talking Eliminator series heads ?? Is there certain cc sizes that are made in China or are the race/street vs competition versions made in different countries ??????
All small block, Chevy AFR heads or cast overseas in China. The difference between the enforcer and eliminators is this. The enforcers are entirely machined in China then assembled in America. The eliminator‘s are cast in China then all machine work is done in America and assembled in America.
I have been watching your videos and you have really inspired me. I am a machinist and make many parts for our pulling tractor. I even made a stroked crankshaft for it. We are allowed to run a recast head but most are actually too big for the small turbo that we run. I would like to make a head for it and I can get one cast but I need to do a lot of research to find the best shape and size for the ports and valve. If I made a head the size of one cylinder on a 3d printer would this be possible to flow or would the plastic flow different than the cast iron. I was thinking the plastic would be cheap and easy to alter for testing.
P.S. I've seen more than one RUclips channel get more business by showing their work and being honest, even with their fk ups, just make it right and move on. u get a reputation for being honest and putting out good work, people will send and bring their stuff from thousand miles away. all to get an honest man.
That long side in the intake runner seems wrong. When porting its be better to opening up that side to get a better flow and swirl. Its must flow more in to the middle of the cylinder.
Is the metallurgy improving on the China heads.. I know you said you had issue welding some in the past... But looks like most are advertising them as A 356-T6. The few I've had seem to be what ever spec they used to claim, I think it was AC4B but it definitely ages different then the old American castings I've had.
In your opinion do the raised exhaust port heads give more or less spark plug and wires clearance than the standard height exhaust port heads with headers?
@@WeingartnerRacingok thanks for the clarification. Do you recommend some form of offset rocker for these heads? Promaxx description of this head claims OEM valve spacing, my set seems something in the region of .100 offset on intake would be better suited.

Have you tried to flow the exhaust port in the right direction? I know it's a bit tricky, but the direction of the flow matters. Odd shapes (vains, valve guides etc.) act differently depending on the direction of the flow. Also knowing the actual flow speed and volume makes the header design easier.

Eric Weingartner, if the vein was cut out, would it cause the swirl to run in the opposite direction? If not, how would it affect swirl and flow?
I have seen were people made them straight and lost power. That could be related to chamber design.
In your opinion do the raised exhaust port heads give more or less spark plug and wires clearance than the standard height exhaust port heads with headers?
It really depends on the header.
