You have your entire shop in a residential garage? That’s epic! I’d love to hear more about how you got started. Machining is fascinating to me and I’d love to get into it.
I can see head manufacturer contacting you again and saying that they never use anti-sieze on their guides and that you did that to make them look bad.. 😂 i guess some companies just want people to slap their product on and call it good... yet people wonder why we dont trust other people.
You missed that every valve spring retainer style has a different installed height measurement, some have a big radius on the top, and some have a small step in the bottom. These variations will throw off your retainer lip measurement. Telescopic gauge may work for bbc/bbf however in LS heads it doesn't. Best and most accurate way is a valve hight micrometer
Too much to learn my head just 🤯🤯🤪🤪🤣🤣. But when you love it all you see is 🤑🤑🤑🤑❤❤❤. Love your channel keep this information coming, I understand that every head is different but the knowledge can be interchangeable 😊😊😊
is it necessary to go with 10 degree locks for lift less than 700? and when should u opt for 10 degree locks and retainers since not all kits come with those?
When you measured with dial calipers you was on top of the spring retainer the other to naturally measure under the retainer but I didn’t hear you mention or calculate the difference of the thickness of the spring retainer.
Thank you so much for information I am building 5.3 ls motor 799 head need help what to do building first motor help me with the numbers love the channel
Buddy is restoring his 02 Dually has the 496 in it Know he wants some nice Raylar heads and assoc parts. Any ballpark where me might be to start? $$ isnt his issue its not dealing with flaky people
Why are OHC engines valve spring pressures so low compared to that of OHV engines? The OHC engines rev higher, yet their springs are smaller in diameter and the spring open and closed pressures are MUCH, MUCH lower than OHV engines. What are the physics behind this?
25:45 I’m not an engine builder. You had 13 thousandths difference between measurement tools, is that really considered “close enough”? I admit to being a perfectionist, so if I saw that, I wouldn’t be doing anything else until I confirmed my tools were measuring accurately, but like I said: I’m not an engine builder and I genuinely don’t know if that is “close enough” in this situation.
It’s more to do with I don’t use the number I got off the snap gauge to determine the height. I used the numbers I got off my caliper. I even also trust the number off the spring micrometer. Was just casually showing that there was a difference in the ways you can measure but in this context that .013” isn’t gonna be the end of the world since nothing is being assembled at the limit.
Old Skool SS, All iron BBC: Spend all day swapping valves between combustion chambers to get a pattern of variations in CCs, after valve work. Then take them to machine shop, have them milled to Minimum Alowed, while checking CCs between cuts. Patience Required! Then have them checked out by NHRA Division Inspector. Breath easy at Tear Down! $ Thanks for the refresher😊
You'd think as much as the raylar heads cost, the QC would be of higher standards. But when you're the only company to offer aluminum heads in this platform, you can wave the middle finger as much as you want. 🙄
Jesus Christ, these heads are $4300, and you're telling me they're using 2nd or 3rd rate parts for their build? WTF is the World coming to!!!! JUNK!!! Never getting my money!!!
Lots of gold nuggets hidden within the sarcasm… don’t change a thing!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍👍👍
I’d never plan on it!

Best video I've watched on valve retainers and springs. It answered many questions that I've had after many years wrenching.
Nice ! Excellent format ! Way to go... keep the geeky tech coming !
Build it and they will come. Thanks for joining!

To the point and quite entertaining! Nice!

Well done keep up the gold standard
Good job explaining everything!
The Birb will have to judge you for those snap-on callipers
Haha entry level starrets with a lifetime replacement. I love it.
I never knew Any of this❕ Now I Know Thank U 🤘
Do the valve stem seals come with instructions? How do you know which ones need the hammer and get destroyed when removed?
What's the part no and supplier on the valve seals you were using? I'd like to go ahead and change mine over since I've got my SCJ heads apart..
Great instruction brother

Did you not watch?
Can you put the shim on top of the locator??. That way you kill 2 birds with one stone.. thoughts??
Nice information delivery.

Another great video. Where did you get the ruler on the spring checker ?
That comes from rimac
Really good information! Have a pair available for sale?
15 thou on a pushrod motor probably isnt a big deal, but an OHC engine that has rocker style followers like a Datsun L series thats a huge difference.
Very informative. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Good stuff! Thanks for sharing…
Sticking to your guns and don't let anybody deter you from giving the truth

Measure your amazon spring mic, mine was off quite a bit , looked like good quality but china says close enough
I dont use it, but I’ve measured it and it’s surprisingly accurate.
Who is the daddy! He’s making me feel some kind of way! 😊
Thank you...
great content ...
those springs are like 8x my sti springs 🤣
👍
40:15 I see what you did there 😂🤥

Another big reason not to build the new 8.1s!
You must be confused, springs go next to the wheels not in the engine
