  • Look who's back! We are working on a Toyota Supra Turbo cylinder head that ingested pieces of foreign debris... or so they say. On today's teardown video we get into it and try to figure out what happened and formulate a gameplan on what's next. Thanks for watching!

Everybody started paying attention to the VVTI heads when the aftermarket ECU platforms were able to deal with it. The earlier computers couldn't be tuned for variable cam timing, so it was avoided.

Guide issues was what I thought without any other evidence of broken bits in the head. Didn’t see it on the exhaust side but was sure evident looking down the intake side with the valves out. Nice forensic analysis 👍👍👍

As a “peer” of yours (I’m more in the rebuilder side), I enjoy the satire. Also it’s good to be occasionally challenged, in a previous video you talked about how lots of shops have nasty valve grinders, I felt a bit attacked because the one I use isn’t the cleanest, while it’s been upgraded to an ER32 collet setup and gives me good results I will now be cleaning the machine up and doing better in keeping it that way.
    Thanks for the content

2JZ-GTE engines on stock cams, both VVTi and none VVTi, are none interference. Wrong cam timing or broken timing belts won't bend valves. What MIGHT bend intake valves on stock springs is very high boost floating them or a serious overrev. Drifters like revs and boost, stock springs don't.
I always Brinnel test old heads to see if they've been over heated and gone soft, sadly this is often the case on old 1JZ and 2JZ engines.
As yet good used castings availability don't make trying to reharden them whilst keeping them somewhat straight worthwhile.
YET.... I am not tossing out my soft 2JZ-GTE head castings!

It's 100% properly isolated electrical wire not having space around it (thumb distance but i never saw it since most just change part and do not zoom in . But i did not expect part taking vacation lol . Will you properly hot/cold pressfit them or you'll just 100 pound hammer them in ? Valve guide ?
