ProMaxx rock. I have a set on my 333 stroker. Pulled them apart, everything was perfect, bowls hand blended, nice hardware, installed height was nuts on, etc. The 333 is a mild build with an XE274HR cam, forged Scat rotating assembly, DSS forged flatops at 10:1. CREB zero decked roller block, Performer RPM, 650 Edelbrock AVS2, 4R70W and a 3.73 gear. Goes like a r@p&d ape.
I’m a fan of both engines. If Eric Weingartner approves of them then they must be better than decent. If I were in the market for an aftermarket aluminum cylinder head I would pick either Promaxx or the budget AFR offering.
I have never been a fan of fors or Asian heads. But since CHI showed their potential 25 years ago. I have become respectful of the Ford aftermarket. These will work great for your 347 and a 408 stroker. Have fun with this one!
Quite impressive. Would love to see their small SBC head vs the Amazon heads on the same street 383. On paper the flow numbers are similar, but the Amazon head has larger port volume. Would be a cool comparison to see what difference the more efficient 183cc ProMaxx port delivers at WOT on the dyno (better low end with no loss in top end? Better everywhere?).
I got a set from wiengarter and they flowed 300 on a sienz 680 bench with a4.030 bore. I’ve had smoke issues since I’ve bolted them on I’m trying to sort out. But they woke my stock bottom end 5.0 up!
Those numbers are actually very similar to the Promaxx Maxx Series 200cc SBC heads I bought years ago. Their Project X series seems to be even better than the Maxx series
To my knowledge AFR 165 enforcers are the only aftermarket head that will bolt on a stock 5.0HO without pistons or fly cutting the factory valve reliefs. You can pick up some budget hyper pistons pretty cheap tho. I left my 88 5.0 outside and when I pulled the crap heads a couple holes had rust crud I cleaned em up took a dingle hone and WD to clean em to inspect and one cleaned up fine one had a little pitting in a small spot size of say a house fly, I was soooooo mad at myself the bore was perfect no ridge nothing, the guy said it had 6000 hours on it (was in a boat) so prob tired, nope. Anyway if it was honed would that one spot be an issue? Or would it not be enough to cause any oil burn? It's not knarly but you can feel some texture with finger nail and it's just one spot. I'd love to toss some cheap hypereutectic pistons with big valve reliefs in the stock bore but if I gotta punch it is what it is, it's like $260 to bore a v8 when I checked a few months ago. I've just read conflicting opinions some say it won't be an issue you will never notice, obviously it's hard to say without seeing it but it's one small fly sized spot but you can feel the texture.
Steven sun castings machines work is done in China lol .. Dart and even lmr sells versions of them. The dart 205 is nice if you can use it and don't mind sbc valves. just wish more offered them bare at decent prices
@@cuttersperformance But if you get a cam that the peak flow is right on the tip of the lobe the flow will be at max longer than the lower lifts. If you get the sbc heads, get the ones with the 300 CFM is at .500" lift so it's easier to use all of the flow. They cost a little more but are way worth it, especially for that 406 type build with the 1203 cam you're using.😎👍
@cuttersperformance I was looking at upgrading my 351w with a Comp xe274 or similar and the Project X heads and was wondering if the 210's would be better than the 185's. Currently has gt40p and a wimpy 210/220 450/474 cam

All I can say is thank you for the video and the reliable free information which is hard to find nowadays.
Appreciate that
I have a set on my L82 sbc, they work great and i have no complaints aabout quality (i dismantled them for inspection before installing)
Yes, I'd like to see you try out some of their SBC heads.
PROMAXX heads are BADASS!!!

The project x 215 SBC heads are amazing!
Small block Chevy the promaxxx project x 215. Hopefully you could get a set.
Eric wiengardner did those and they are big power producers
Damn good heads. I have a pair of the 200cc SBC versions.
did you buy the bare castings? What engine combo are you running?
This is awesome always watch your show but I’m a ford guy. I actually just bought to project X 210 for my 331 build.
How are they? I’m looking at the same thing

Another thing that I noticed is that these heads have the E7’s beat before they even reach .300 lift. That says something.
Good point
outstanding!!
would love to see the project x 215's for a SBC
Really enjoy your videos. What are your thoughts on steel shim head gaskets with aluminum heads on a cast iron block
@@davepilling3134 i wouldn't trust a steel shim gasket with anything but cast iron heads.
Awesome vid!!
215x with a healthy HR and about 12.1 would be fun
Nice, should be good enough to break the cast steel aftermarket crank and or the factory block with the right compression, cam and Intake.😳😁😎👍
Hopefully not 😄
who do you recommend for engine machine work?
Good head for the money. I have the afr renegade 185s. They flow a little better than the promax but they cost a little more also

I wouldn't worry, ran stuff worse, currently running stuff worse, no smoking or oil consumption issues
Ive known guys that have ran worst for several years
According to the forums, the TFS 11R's have a lot of piston to valve clearance on a stock bottom end HO.
Very cool!
waiting for the sbc review
They are good.

Always remember your at lower lifts twice only at peak once so lift numbers are better. JMO LOL
Exactly

Project x 215 on the 406??? 😜
How much were those heads as you received them assembled with valves, springs etc? Thanks 👍🇦🇺
Do you have any cast iron eq protopline or rhs cylinders heads 200cc 50cc chamber heads
Does flowbench “flow” always equal real world higher horsepower gains????
Better hold onto your horses lol that lil 347 will be rearing to go, @crow hopping lol not too much of a 302 ford fan but itll be impressive i figure.
Hmm 500+hp potential at 500, a mech roller at
700 lift would be closer to 600, very nice
My sbc 408 made over 700@7600 on dyno
Would the Promaxx Project X 210's be too big for a street 347? They are only $80 more than the 185
Not necessarily, depends on the cam and rpm range
