Was literally about to pull the trigger on the AFR Enforcers and then you drop this? Thanks for the backstory as I thought it was shelved because not enough sales.
1000$ for the 170’s and 1300$ for the 185’s is a really good deal. Considering you can’t even touch most big name brand cylinder heads for a little less than 2000$
Should do a full spec sheet on the site, with what valve train parts come on them.... Got to say the cnc 185 looks like the best budget head these days, so many shops doing those castings from Steven now, rather see the 170's with the 8mm guides though.
Love to see these being remade! Still have an original set bought brand new from a ford catalog in the 90s that are about to be put on an ‘82 GT of mine!
Someone said the guy brital he has a channel on here he plays with foxbodys he did a head swap with sve heads not sure valve size but supposably worked it wasn't these particular heads though
Great work. I remember the old aluminum heads would warp---was a big problem. You didn't mention that--guess that problem has been eliminated all together. I am looking at a 2.0 super charged in line 4 cyl ford that uses aluminum a head. any comments there? Thanks!!
Have a set of the older heads (came on a 93 GT). Matched with a GT40 top end, car pulls like my friend's old 91 GT with a vortec on 8lbs. Happy to see them back!
What Trickflow heads are you trying to compare? They have multiple options. I'd recommend comparing the specs and flow numbers and you'll be able to form your own opinion. Not to mention, different heads will pair better or worse depending on the supporting parts. -Landan
Looking back on first comment, I stated the valve guide material instead of the valve material and quoted the incorrect seat material. Valve material: Stainless steel (not sure on the specific alloy) Deck thickness (from our supplier): .75" Valve seat material: Powdered metal
The machine work could use some QC. I found flash around all 8 plug holes, the seats look like hell where they come together. 3 hours with a file and all is well. Any head should be torn down and inspected, regardless of brand. AFRs look like hell out the box as well, too me, so take that as you will... I'm a picky bastard when it comes to parts... Best "budget" head I have run are the ProMaxx 9175s, but they too needed some cleanup.
I understand where you're coming from. I do the same on anything I purchase as well. From car parts to household items, I look it all over. Thanks for the feedback and comment. We appreciate it. -Landan
You didn't provide much information about said "piston". Are they stock, aftermarket, different dish, valve reliefs? What is the displacement? For what it's worth, I've never confirmed a 1.72 roller rocker with a Trickflow stage 1 cam on either a stock or aftermarket piston. Based on other scenarios I've seen, a 1.72 roller rocker with a Trickflow stage 1 cam is going to be cutting it too close with a stock piston. Personally, I'd go with 1.6 rockers. Trickflow spec'd their stage 1 cam to work with stock pistons when running 1.6 rockers. At the end of the day, there are too many variables to say yes or no. Checking PTV is still required no matter what. Hope this helps. -Landan
You run a "mild" camshaft and check piston-to-valve clearance. I personally like the Trickflow stage 1 cam when running the SVE heads. Good idle quality, good sound, good power band. -Landan
We'll be straight up with you. They're cast and assembled in China. Country of origin aside, these are great cylinder heads with a respectable price point. -Landan

Just ordered a set of the 185’s for my 331 build. I’ll definitely do a video on the install. Thanks for bringing them back!
Was literally about to pull the trigger on the AFR Enforcers and then you drop this? Thanks for the backstory as I thought it was shelved because not enough sales.
Man... Im happy 😁 to see the 185 cc from SVE 👍. The 170's are going to be a joy to have around 🎉🙆🎊!
Awesome! I thought these went away because of EPA issues. Nice to see them back.🇺🇸🐺👍
Nope, it was actually because of supply chain issues! We're happy to bring these back, at an affordable price point!
Those 185's look nice.
They're very nice in person!
About grab a set for my Thunderbird, I think, so happy 😊 you brought back the affordable sve heads
Great to see these back with the added 185s!
Hell yeah! I just ordered the 170cc for my build. Thank you for the work to bring them back.

Now, we can finally do sleeper builds on the 89 Crown Vics since these are made for the 302/351 roller motors! Love to see it :D
SVE always makes nice products. I’m glad these cylinder heads are back 👍
Nice little set up if you're on a budget. Thanks
Just made my purchase can’t wait to receive them I missed out on them years ago lol not this time
I just got my set of 185's in the mail and the portwork is gorgeous and the overall quality appears to be top notch.
People complaining about $1000 for a pair of aluminum heads……. This ain’t the earlier 2000s go find GT 40s for less than what these go for
And those Gt40s will flow less too. Might as well buy the 185s and be done
I paid $1800 for AFR 185s on sale in 2008!
Gt 40's are better these heads are junk
Should do a full spec sheet on the site, with what valve train parts come on them.... Got to say the cnc 185 looks like the best budget head these days, so many shops doing those castings from Steven now, rather see the 170's with the 8mm guides though.

What would the compression be with 170cc heads stock pistons
Let’s see a stock vs. these heads dyno comparison.
That would be great
It's on the list! No guarantees on a release time, though. -Landan
@@latemodelrestorationI got a stock headed fox yall could happily use for test purposes 😂
170cc version should use a 1.90 intake valve , but understood the tooling implications and economic considerations.
It’s about damn time you bring them back affordable power that’s the way it goes
Should have said what cams go best with both set
That would be valuable information, but there are a way too many combos out there to justify a "best" setup. Thanks for understanding. -Landan
Glad to see some new stuff for push rod 5.0.
My main ? Is about overall deck height is it .500 ?
But great props for a budget friendly head.
Sweet! 🏆💪
looks good ....
Will these work with stock pistons?
No better to go Flotek if you don’t want to fly cut the pistons.
Do the 185s typically work with OEM pistons?
Wondering myself
Same
Someone said the guy brital he has a channel on here he plays with foxbodys he did a head swap with sve heads not sure valve size but supposably worked it wasn't these particular heads though
So the wider header bolt placing. Is that for Ls headers?
They look really good !
Awesome!!
Love you all LMR THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERY THING & EVERY VIDEO 🏁🏁🏁🏁👍👍👍🤙🤙🤙🔥🔥🔥✌️✌️✌️😎😎😎🌞🌞🌞
Getting ready to order the 170 heads will they work with the trickflow stage 1 cam.
They'll work flawlessly
I hope they work with longtube headers
@bbq5.0 those are an excellent choice as well.
Yes. I've built a 306 with the 170s, a Trickflow stage 1 cam, and 1.6 rockers. Everything worked great! -Landan
Can we get some 4.6/5.4 modular heads next? If you could price those about the same as these they would sell like hot cakes
Thanks for the comment! I'll forward this to our product team. -Landan

Thanks for the feedback. Are you referring to aluminum heads in general warping or the previous SVE heads? -Landan
Have a set of the older heads (came on a 93 GT). Matched with a GT40 top end, car pulls like my friend's old 91 GT with a vortec on 8lbs.

On the site, can you post the flow numbers as you did the old 170's?
Are these better than trick flow heads
What Trickflow heads are you trying to compare? They have multiple options. I'd recommend comparing the specs and flow numbers and you'll be able to form your own opinion. Not to mention, different heads will pair better or worse depending on the supporting parts. -Landan
High ports?
Which headers would be recommended for these heads? (87 Foxbody 302)
do these have to be run with head studs or do regular head bolts work with them?
Head bolts will work just fine. Make sure you use reducer bushings if the heads are being installed onto a 302-based engine. -Landan
@@latemodelrestoration cool, I also have an old set of Crane 1.7 pedestal mount rockers, will those work or do I have to change to a stud-mount setup?
@@gregslo5oh575 You'll have to switch to a stud-mount rocker arm. -Landan
@@latemodelrestoration cool, thanks. Getting ready to do a pretty big overhaul on my ol 5.0 so I want to make sure I get all the right stuff.
Very nice
Good job on the flange part so now the guys with badly built mac headers can fit
what is the flow rate for 185 heads?
Why don't you do a dyno HCI video with your head???
Thanks for the comment! We have an idea similar to this on our list behind other videos. We'll get to it whenever we can. -Landan
With both heads running the 2.02 intake, are either of them safe for stock pistons?
Yes, but piston-to-valve clearance is also dependent on the camshaft and rocker arm ratio. -Landan
This nice very nice
what is the deck thickness? Valve material? Valve Seat material?
I'll check on the deck thickness, but I'm pretty sure I remember .325".
Valve material: Manganese Bronze
Valve seat material: Ductile Iron
Looking back on first comment, I stated the valve guide material instead of the valve material and quoted the incorrect seat material.
Valve material: Stainless steel (not sure on the specific alloy)
Deck thickness (from our supplier): .75"
Valve seat material: Powdered metal
They have a 3/4 deck thickness?!?!!?!?!
The machine work could use some QC. I found flash around all 8 plug holes, the seats look like hell where they come together. 3 hours with a file and all is well. would the 170cc work with 1.72 rockers and trickflow stage 1 would clear piston?

So the 170's are 7/16 & 185 are 8mm valve stems????
THE VALVE STEM DIAMETERS ARE .344 ON THE 170's and .315 on the 185's.
@@hubstangaka, 8mm for the 185s
Can you run the 170s on a 302 with stock piston? Or the 2.02 intake valve need more clearance?
What camshaft/roller rockers are you using? -Landan
Still stock for now, but 95% sure an Anderson N41 with 1.6 rocker for the future
Wait, why for hyd roller cams only?
springs are different for roller vs flat tappet
All that You need to do is change the spring package to a package that is compatible with Your camshaft ! 🇺🇸🇵🇷🦊👍
Most people don't run flat tappets as much and they're mostly catered to roller cam fox bodies
These are the prices I'm talking about.

No EGR passages I see
Ngl I wish yall went 1.94 intake on the 170s
I get that for bolt on head why you would but brodix ST5.0s heads are an American made head with 1.94s and a 55cc chamber
🤟
You need to make a high rise intake port.
Thanks for the comment! We'll forward the info to our product team.
LMFAO.. What are the exhaust bolt spread paterns. wow.
If it's anything like the SVE flywheel I would stay far away

So basically, these are copies of the edelbrock performers
Yep they are knockoffs
They are a copy of Performer heads
Good price , mediocre flow. Way better than E7 and gt40. Not even close to Promax project x.
Worth swapping my gt40p heads out for ?
