The Bad Guys holiday special was a wash and we're gonna talk about why. Dreamworks Christmas specials are all put on notice after this one lol

I watched/reviewed all the DreamWorks specials recently and the majority were pretty good so I am surprised this bad guys one apparently is not lol

Whether it be a storybook artist like Dr. Seuss, or a cartoonist like Peanuts’ Charles Schulz, or any other artist who has the sole creative control over a one-man storytelling job…when bringing them on board for something as collaborative as an animated adaptation (holiday-themed or otherwise), it definitely helps to have a strong personal bond with the people bringing your creation to life who know the ins-and-outs of both the medium they’re adapting FROM and the medium they’re adapting TO. Seuss had a lot of creative control with the Grinch for sure, but Chuck Jones also deserves a good chunk of the credit. (Not to mention that Seuss had a previous failed experience writing for the big screen with “The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T”, and maybe took some lessons from there on what to do differently for the Grinch.) In Charles Schulz’s case, he had worked with animator Bill Melendez and executive producer Lee Mendelson on the documentary ‘A Boy Named Charlie Brown’ which never saw the air, but the collaboration fed into making the Charlie Brown Christmas special when they got sponsorship for that.
In Aaron’s case, I guess it’s hard to tell exactly what went wrong regarding his involvement with this versus the movie. Let’s just hope and pray that with the rest of the ‘Bad Guys’ series, they can learn from the mistakes of this special.

As someone who was a big ass fan of of the books, seeing the movie get delayed was sad, seeing it come back again was amazing for me, and then seeing the movie finally come out in 2022, i was so happy, i loved the animation, i didn’t mind the story, but wished it leaned on some elements from the book (I’m not saying exactly the same elements but just take some ideas) i was satisfied, but hearing it would have a short made me really disappointed, but i was looking foward to the idea, i was disappointed again, seeing the intro to the short made me upset, tbg just feels the type of movie that doesn’t need a series, but maybe a sequel and there, done, I don’t have any good expectations for the series future, 4/10

I dont know why but to me the choppy and snappy animation of Netflix originals had its charm…. Until they got too lazy with it and kept it up even when attached to a movie with great and fluid animation, this is just more proof that Netflix loves giving the middle finger to the original ip.

Fr. Pretty much everything from the CN Dragons shows and the Nicktoons shows looked pretty good for what they were working with, I just don't know why they're doing it for pretty much everything else though. At least Trolls is sticking to 2D for most of it's spinoffs.

"I don't really care if the actor themself can do a good Sam Rockwell; it might help, but the job at hand was to do a good Mr. Wolf"
Line of the hour. I didn’t want to watch this until I saw the original film, but you hit the money on the quality of The Bad Guys: cliche as hell story that is held together by good character interactions and performances along with a neat artstyle.
Given that the new Megamind movie and TV show has just released, I thought it was worth giving my thoughts. (I too was weirded out by Madagascar Babies😂)
The more promising ideal would be if they went back to when they did mostly 2D shows during the mid-2010s. I have no idea what the consensus is on The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show or Home: Adventures with Tip & Oh (plus I’ve barely seen either of them), but both look infinitely more interesting than the movies they were spun off from. ❤

I literally tried the special 10 minutes ago, and was disappointed that the animation wasn’t nearly as good and the voice cast wasn’t the same. I couldn’t even watch the rest of it (I just watched the first five minutes.)

Sad thing is, The Bad Guys Christmas special was the best thing Dreamworks has made in 2023.

I knew the holiday special was gonna be bad the moment they dropped the trailer. The animation had an obvious gowngrade, none of the original voice actors came back to reprise their roles, and as I expected... It was bad.

Idk I just felt like the bad guys special felt rushed and the animation didn't look as smooth as in the film I mean its just a short film they don't have to put much effort but the models are different kinda and it's just terrible the whole thing is terrible the movie did better than this little short it's just all dog water.

The special is fine, but among the Dreamworks Animation Television offerings in 2023, this was the weakest. I mean, Not Quite Narwhal, Dew Drop Diaries, Fright Krewe, and Curses blow this special out of the water.
