While Spiderverse did influence some of the stylization, I like thinking Bad Guys is also a heavy result of the success of Dreamworks' adaptation of Captain Underpants- another book adaptation turned film that embraces how you can stylize animation, even with a small budget. It's why in some ways, Dreamworks feels more outgoing than Disney/Pixar- it stylizes to enhance the experience.
@Frosty Bur 2d is actually more expensive. If you already have the equipment and people that know how to do it like most big studios now a days you’ll find that 3d is usually less expensive than a complete 2d movie. So I think most studios will probably fall in the 2d and 3d mix.
@@koshavinka2995 Him too, I kinda forgot to mention him. I seriously doubt it's purposeful, but it is kinda interesting how everyone on the "good side" have names, while all the "bad guys" are reduced to their species. It's kinda like they're trying to show that the bad guys are only seen and judged on a surface level, hence why they don't even have proper names.
Oh those are just like code names. In the later books almost all bad guys real names are shown. Mr. Snake is the only one not to have his name shown yet.
The Mother Theresa bit has another connotation. Mother Theresa was everything except nice. She was, by all accounts, fairly sociopathic in her behaviour when there were no cameras as she believed that everyone should suffer for Jesus as that was her true way of getting closer to him. Patients in her free clinic have come out positively traumatized. So yeah, when he says that it's between him and her for the nicest person that can be an awfully low bar to clear.
@@RYMAN1321 Yes, and I have a feeling that whoever wrote that line was banking on that. The line has two contextual meanings. The obvious one, that's also mentioned in this video. And the more subtle one of him saying straight to their face, "yeah, I'm the bad guy and you're too stupid to realise that I've just told you outright." Both of these readings play into the narcissistic personality of his thinking that he's better than everyone else.

@@amesstarline5482 And I think this style is just a sign of times. It's very similar to what Pixar did in Turning Red, adapting CalArts style 2D cartoon (like Steven Universe or Craig of the Creek) into 3D. Just look at the human designs in it (like police officer in 0:40), this frame might have been taken as well from said Turning Red, or if it was in 2D from SU or COTC.
As a BIG fan for the book series, I've been waiting for this movie for a WHILE. I haven't watched it yet, but here are some book stuff that the movie didn't have: 1. They all have actual names, but it's not revealed till book 10 2. Diane Foxington's original name was both Agent Fox and Ellen 3. Diane was a part of a secret organization that's basically the crew in the books, but all girls and different animals 4. Ms. Tarantula was originally a boy called Legs or Stevie 5. The crew in the books are basically a lot of predators coming together to change society's expectations by becoming good 6. There was no humans 7. The crew wore suits and Diane's organization wore jumpsuits 8. There was a velociraptor introduced in the 7th book called Milton 9. Marmalade was a butt-handed alien from outer space

Considering how CGI movies have gotten to a point where you can't even tell which studio a movie is from because they all look the same, it makes me happy whenever an animated show/movie has a unique art/animation style.
The influence of Into the Spider-Verse was a GODSEND to the industry. But yes, Dreamworks had Captain Underpants (which my 1st cousin once removed worked on) to get us here. It's a nice change of pace to focus on STYLE over realism.

The Author of the Bad Guys actually visited my school like 7 years ago. Crazy how far he's come. From visiting small schools in Texas to getting a multi-million dollar a movie adaptation. Anyway, I really enjoyed this movie it had an outgoing and finesse-y feel to it. Sure it was a bit generic but that doesn't make it unenjoyable.
The fact that it wasn't DISNEY you know the PIONEERS of animation that kickstarted this era of style over realism is INCREDIBLE. I love Disney, I do, I do, I do. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut it's nice to see other studios have that spotlight. And now Pixar even is taking notes and making films like Luca, and Turning Red, which are very stylized especially for Pixar which doesn't HAVE a style; it's just big round eyed characters with typical rendering and animation (rendering is how a character is made and animation is the movement). But HERE, oh my my my THE ANIMATION is MM. The movement goes from that typical....how to put...FAIRY GOD PARENTS kind of quick jerky stiffy motions, to smooth flowy in a SECOND and it oddly works. Like the dance sequence DAYUM. I really hope to Christ we see more animated movies like these. Studios need to remember that the point of animation is that it can do things live action can't. While movies like Soul, and Toy Story 4 look INCREDIBLE, it's important to remember, you're an animated movie. Not live action. Push those boundaries.

Diane also knew what Marmalade was planning, kind of. During the part where he betrays the Bad Guys, he ends up elaborating his idea (to pass it off as theirs) and you can tell by Diane's face that she got suspicious, since she's the best thief in the world, she would know a thing or two. She also belittles and judges the Bad Guys alot of the time.
@@demetria-n The problem(s) being that 2 are small and 4 are more likely to be the dominant one, if someone was wanting THAT kind of relationship. And again, we have to take into consideration the laws regarding interspecies relationships in The Bad Guy movie universe.
Great video but I think I'm gonna have to disagree with the Crimson Paw reveal. Even ignoring the clear fact she's a fox (an animal with it's own bad rep) Diane is one of the few characters that leave Wolf speechless, pointing out all the flaws in his plans with the knowledge that one would probably only possess if she 1. Had a history in law enforcement or 2. Had experience from doing heists herself
Yeah, I saw three hints: 1: She very obviously personally calls them out on live-TV to get them to steal the golden dolphin in the hope to get them arrested. 2: She goes on a rant about all the flaws in their previous heist that makes her sound like a retired criminal, including ‘making it personal.’ Which she initiated herself. 3: The whole thing with the ring. I feel they struck a good balance. You can totally guess that she’s the retired Crimson Paw.
@@theglitch312I figured out she was also a thief at the initial party when she was like "they didn't even have proper getaway and their escape was not clean". Did not connect to the crimson paw but I did remember the name when the reveal happened
After seeing the ads I knew that the bad guy would be either the snake or the guinea pig, although they did a good job of not completely giving it away cause I was leaning more to the "Wolf and others realize that the snake is toxic" storyline from how they made the ads so good for them. I haven't seen the movie yet but from what you said and the previews I'm very interested to see how it plays out.
2:45 Thank God, it's not just me! I hate when animated films go *too* detailed and as you said, end up in good 'ol uncanny valley, home of some of my worst nightmares!
Honestly besides the bit about discrimination, it really feels more like Looney Tunes than Zootopia. Like there's just some characters that are anthropomorphic animals and we just accept that.
Funny, as soon as I saw the Guinea pig dude, I was like "oh yeah he's gonna be the real bad guy". Like I was thinking "This is a kids movie where the supposed bad guys will inevitably turn good, so this guy who parades around claiming to be the bestest most goodest guy is obviously going to be the villain".
I didn't think he was going to be the main villain perse, but as soon as he spoke I knew he was going to be annoying in some sort of antagonistic way. I hated him the entire movie, narcissistic people who pretend to be all that annoy me more than I can say. I'm not a super great person, I'm not supposed to be, I'm human. Nobody's supposed to be perfect, so I don't understand why some people try. I won't say that they aren't better than anyone else because there are some really terrible people out there, but I know that they aren't better than everyone. I wish they would just get some help, go to therapy or something instead of acting so high and mighty all the time.

Man, the first 10 minutes of the movie with the car chase scene were AWESOME. I was literally on the verge of tears for how much aesthetically pleasing and beautiful the animation was, the artstyle of this movie is truly breathtaking!!!!
It’s definitely being slept on, I saw this movie a few days ago and I was literally the only one in the theater, for me this movie has to be one of my favorite dreamworks movies to date besides the kung fu panda trilogy and I really hope it gets a sequel based on the other books
I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie. Especially since I went to see it on a whim. I'm a sucker for redemption arcs, so I'm willing to overlook some lapses in logic. I loved all the characters, everyone was cast perfectly, and I love all their chemistry. Yeah some parts kinda dragged, but I was already drawn in by that point. Also is it me or was that dance at the gala like super spicy? Rather, very... charged? So charged, that sparks were flying? Heh heh? It was hot. There I said it. It was super hot. Like not to tarnish a kid's movie, but like my blood was racing during that whole dance between Wolf and Diane. Like "oh my god, just kiss already!" Like goddamn, that's a hot couple!
Idk I think that the dance sequence was enough between them. Like, when it ended I was satisfied with what I saw, I didn't have the need to see a kiss between them or something more. That kind of chemistry was enough for me, but this is just my opinion. That scene anyway was beautiful, I really loved Diane's dress, with both trousers and a skirt!!!

The movie wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be. Worth checking out if you need time to kill. Those next videos are going to be Total Drama, aren’t they? That thing is a shipping WW2.
@@falconeshield honestly, part of me doesn't want RWBY to get any attention considering how bad it got. So many neat ideas with piss poor execution especially around Volume 6 or 7 onward.
The Wolf is just literally Legoshi and Nick Wilde in one don’t @ me And yes this is very much a pg furry movie, fet!shes and all. Well the art style is very nice looking tho
And there is one part that caught me off guard, *Spoiler Below* There’s a scene when Mr. Wolf changes into his prison jumpsuit and for a brief moment you see him shirtless and *only* in his underwear. 😳
Oh my goodness I was worried I was going insane on thinking it was fet!sh territory for some of the stuff in the movie. I was originally hating this movie because of it until I realized the movie wasn't that bad
I was shocked that my theater was almost packed when we got tickets! It was nice to see it, although I really would have liked maybe one or 2 seats of space in between me and the people next to me
Geez, your theatre now allows unrelated parties to sit next to each other ? The two theaters near me still have to keep one empty seat between parties But yeah I had a decent crowd when I went this past Sunday. Both the kids and adults got good laughs and enjoyed it quite a bit (I myself did as well)
I went to a much lesser known theater when the movie was almost off cinemas and managed to enjoy it almost solo, as if I had a private cinema screen with my friends.
Excited to see this! I LOVED the 'The Bad Guys' book series, and thanks for your review. Also it wasn't JUST Mr. Wolf, i remember everyone was freaking out over Mr. Shark voring in the trailer 💀
YES YES YES ANOTHER BOOKS FAN!!! I loved the little references to the books like the crater being "shaped like a butt" and marmalade being offended in reference to the alien guy's hands. I also remember when the movie was announced to be in development all the way back in like 2018 and it's only come now and it deeeeeefinitely was worth the wait.
Ok I realize I'm dumb but when I watched the movie I thought they said "the Crimson Paul" instead of paw. So I was expecting some guy named Paul and then it's like "no obviously it's the one red animal." Anyways it was a fun reveal
IMO, while I can *maybe* understand why many ship them I just saw them as platonic friends. That being said, there are a few subtle moments that can imply that their relationship can progress Such as the dance scene, the scene when he’s in his sheep outfit, and the ending
If this got the Academy award this will be very positive news for the entire animation industry as a whole. Spiderverse showed that stylization can bare better fruits of labor than more realistic backrounds and characters like Disney and Pixar. They used stylization but unfortunatelly fell on some cons in the 3D and 2D medium. The Bad Guys took that stylization and blew it out of the water. This time they removed many 2D drawbacks like lack of frames, namely drawing on 2s to save time. They carefully mixed the best aspects of both worlds and it blends so effortlessly.
well actually, on the foreshadowing on her being the crimson paw, there IS a couple of moments. Ex: Her knowing the signs of a failing crew when she's a governor and not like... a police officer or a detective. Her ''a wolf and a fox aren't so different, I'm rooting for you wolf'' line. And her reaction towards wolf when he's smooth-talking everyone at the gala. Not much, but it is there.
6:56 Remember guys, in Frozen, Hans is a good prince done dirty, the trolls are the lovable villains. Prior to the reveal, Hans does SOOOO many things which go against his interests if he was planning an underhanded coup. Meanwhile, the trolls do nothing but win if Kristoff gets a girlfriend, talk _openly_ about "getting the fiance out of the way" and have LITERAL MIND ALTERING MAGIC which they deploy alongside easily misconstrued advise *in the first 10 minutes of runtime*
See also, Opening Scene: Troll encounters little lost boy, obviously well cared for with toy sled and pet reindeer. Without *any* consideration for looking for his family or returning him to human settlements, she unironically says "You're cute. IMMA KEEP YOU" The trolls are depicted as morally grey _at best_ magic wielding ancients who treat humans as little more than pets or playthings (see also x2, romantic dance number with Kristoff and Anna against their protest), with little regard for human norms. That Kristoff grew up relatively well adjusted is the least believable part in a movie about ice magic.
@@mjp121 The fact that you're bringing up an awful, lazy villain like Hans, his entire plan just relies on others being so stupid. Like, nobody even gets the idea to check on the supposedly dead Anna after he declares her such ?

@@kaiyotee2475 Correct And that’s why IMO many are shipping Mr. Wolf with Diane Granted they had such wonderful chemistry in the film (though the hints were quite subtle) , but I feel their relationship is just starting
I'm just thinking - forget about its source material for a moment - why wasn't this made and marketed as a teen to YA movie? As far as the Internet is concerned, its only selling point lies in its sexier, more humanoid animal characters and its animation as inspired by Lupin Castle of Cagliostro - not the generic plot that pulls from other, more adult movies, its Disney-esque tropes, or its fart jokes. And if they still wanted to appeal to kids, why not go for making them feel like they've grown more "adult" or sophisticated from watching it, instead of pandering to them? For example, I remember when I was only a little girl, I was allowed to watch Moulin Rouge and thought it was the most grown-up, sophisticated thing because it starred pretty grown-ups falling in love in Paris and talking about adult stuff like marrying for love vs money (though now I realize that, in the words of Doug Walker, that story is for children in the most embarrassing sense as far as its characters go and the shallowness of its central love story).
Because Universal owns Dreamworks, they have certain guidelines now. The director of the HTTYD trilogy already had negative things to say about how the third movie got handled with Universal breathing down his neck about what wasn't allowed.
I think, looking back on it, the very first intro we get of Diane with Wolf is foreshadowing. Like at first you just go "she's stunting on him" but then you go...okay HOW do you know this? How do you know to think about escape plans, yadda yadda? Then the moments she says "a wolf and a fox, we're not so different" and she steals back her ring? Yeah, that was the point I knew she WAS a thief at some point, just not THE crimson paw. So when you look back on it, makes sense.
I loved this movie! It was fun and campy, and I especially enjoyed how it knowingly toyed with clichéd tropes of the heist genre, but while also showering them with the love they deserve. So, yeah. Either a show or a sequel would be great. Nice review, by the way. I subscribed.
I love how you point out that the group are both supporting and putting themselves back, and I love how you point out the toxicity of it. Everyone loves Mr. Snake, I love Mr. Snake, but that guy is kind of toxic, and very dependable and possessivene. I read the book until chapter 14, and let me tell ya, that Snake dropped the ball so many times, that I often wonders why Wolf didn't cut him off completely Then you go a little deeper and see that it was Wolf that taught Snake to be this ways, in one way or the other. Snake is nothing without Wolf and it shows. In the movie, they really captured the nuance of their friendship, and is no wonder the fandom is split into shipping WolfxSnake and WolfxFox/Diane. Hell, even o get confused from time to time. I wish both the books, and the future movies tackled this dependency that Snake have, and give him the redemption arc of figuring out who he is without Wolf, and until then, explore how toxic their relationship can be. I loved how in the movie they made us think Wolf and the gang would leave Snake behind, but in the last second they decided that they would get their friend back. You could see Wolf apologize to Diane mentally for going after Snake first. And speaking of Diane and Wolf, MY GOD! Those two have SO MUCH CHEMISTRY, so much sexual and romantic tension! Many will say that Snake and Wolf friendship was the highlight of the movie, but I fully believe it shared the spotlight with WolfxDiane relationship. Everytime they were on screen together, you belived their quickly connection. The dance sequence made you feel their attraction to each other, and the moment everyone left Wolf, and Diane was the only on his side, you believed their friendship and partnership. I never saw a relationship get build so quickly and so well, ever since Nick and Judy from Zootopia. I fully believe the next movie will focus on Snake dealing with the idea of losing Wolf attention to Diane, because is so obvious that Wolf and Diane are in love, and Snake would have to deal with the fact he is not the only favorite now. There is so much potential for it Overall, I ADORED this movie. I love WolfxDiane together, they were my highlight of the film, and I loved the nuance between Wolf and Snake Friendship, along with the nuance of the Bad Guys Group A 10/10 must watch

They mentioned the crimson paw pretty much as soon as you see fox. Literally said "ah, she's the crimson paw." I saw that twist way before the marmalade one. I honestly thought she was going to end up being the one playing them. But femme fetal playing the heroes and playing with the Protagonist's heart was probably a bit much to expect from a kids film. I took a gander because the art style piqued my interest and I wasn't disappointed. Much better than I expected.
My brother and I rented this film while we were sick at home and loved it! It gave off such Lupin the third vibes at times and I am a sucker for the criminal found family trope.
10:42 On your thing about the crimson paw; in the movie, Diane was introduced (through the billboard) right after the crimson paw was mentioned, so I noticed that right away. On the flip side, though, marmalade was actually fooling me into thinking he was genuine near the end until the meteor was stolen, so we both missed some things haha
I feel like this movie is aware of how corny and predictable it is like yeah this movie is super easy to see coming BUT they definitely ham it up as a joke and make it super funny like watching the goody two shoes Guinea pig go evil in the back of the police car you can CLEARLY see they made him over the top evil on purpose because they KNEW everyone would see it coming so it's played as a joke rather than played as a genuine heart wrenching dramatic twist it's amazing More movies need to just be silly wacky goofy fun with lots of good times rather than tryna tell a deep story or spread a message like yeah if u squint a bit u can can sorta see the underlying message but this is clearly not zootopia in terms of writing it's just a movie about a group of 5 homies doing bad shit. Then tryna do good shit. Then doing bad shit but actually accepting it and doing the right thing it's a ton of fun and I could watch this movie with it's art and animation style 100 times over and never get bored....plus was it just me or was this movie like....really really really funny like early seasons of spongebob funny with some if the writing jokes. Like yeah there is the fart joke that shows up thrice but hell even one of those lead to an intense fun scene and was actually...kinda funny imo idk...I really like this movie and want more like it not just with a unique art style. No I want more movies with THIS SPECIFIC STYLE I really dont want this style to be 1 and done please
------SPOILERS------ Funnily enough, I knew the Crimson Paw was coming back throughout the film, and it was a toss between Foxington and Marmalade. So when it turned out to be Foxington but then it was pinned on Marmalade, it was just an ironic personal moment that the film unintentionally validated my uncertaint.
I do kind of like the "Marmalade was behind it all from the start" twist because Wolf used the classic "make someone believe your idea was their idea" tactic on him earlier. After you learn Marmalade was manipulating Mr. Wolf you realize Wolf was actually the one it was being used on. So essentially Marmalade manipulated Wolf into thinking it was his idea to manipulate Marmalade into thinking it was his idea to try to turn the Bad Guys good. That's the kind of ridiculous complicatedness that works really well these types of movies. The problem, is how Marmalade knew Mr. Wolf would do any of that. Like seriously, what would he have done if Wolf had decided not to help the old lady?
I'm gonna be honest. I knew Diane was the crimson paw the moment they said they'd never been caught and didn't steal again. Her pickpocketing wolf halfway through the movie just cemented it. But I didn't see the Mr. Snake twist coming at all.
10:30-11:15 @Sacrastic Chorus I want to say though they did some (in my opinion) clever foreshadowing of Diane when the bad guys get caught, she talks about the heist in some very specific wording, and Wolf even looks at her briefly before he’s pulled away again
To be honest, diane foxington from the bad guys is like spamton from deltarune chapter 2 because they both wear glasses and they both make deals and i think i remember the fox girl say now's your chance to redeem yourselves like how spamton says now's your chance to be a big shot. When wolf talked to the fox girl on the stairs it reminded me of the original spamton fight in deltarune and when the fox girl was reavealed to be the crimson paw, it reminded me of spamton neo. Instead of rescuing wolf and the gang, i was expecting the fox girl to fight them instead and have wolf's soul turn yellow and be able to shoot things and wolf and the gang will be in minecarts and the fox girl wants to take wolf's body as a vessal and says he doesn't need his freinds. Wolf and the gang can either beat the fox girl up or break her strings and then they get an item and a shadow crystal and also marmalade is also kinda like queen since they're both selfish. Could someone please do a YTPMV of now's your chance to be a big shot where the fox girl sings now's your chance to be a big shot and also with sounds from the movie as the melody. Since matpat did a ness is sans theory, i could also see him do a diane foxington is spamton theory. Personally I saw a lot of hints that Diane was in fact a thief in her past. Not the Crimson Paw exactly, but the fact that she steals the ring back and calls the bad guys mediocre is a huge sign that she was a thief, and very good at it.
When I saw the movie, whenever the hamster talked, I kept hearing Richard’s other role when he was in that Cartoon Network cartoon, Apple & Onion, where he was the titular Onion. Like those little quirkiness from the cartoon in that movie
I did go see this movie. ( I actually got to see it the day before it was released as a school trip) I was really excited as I had read the books when i was younger and I was just hyped. I am in high school so being that hyped over a kids movie was really something. I loved it my grandpa said it was "pretty good for an animated movie". I wish that they had brought in more stuff from the books but i still loved it.
Good review, but I would disagree about the whole "Crimson Paw" bit. I called it pretty early that she had a criminal background the moment she started talking about the Bad Guys as has beens and and that they were in "decline". You know, as if she was talking from actual experience. She was also very lenient toward them before the reveal and that she was "rooting" for Wolf, which is an odd thing to do considering their criminal record and that she barely knows any of them beyond a few conversations. Her being the Crimson Paw explains it all, especially since she herself turned a new leaf.
When I first saw the trailer I wasn’t too impressed because I thought the designs looked a little too simple. I thought it would be a basic movie that would be easily forgotten or standard. And I was soooooo proven wrong. The designs, while simple moved so smooth and fast. The facial expressions and the action scenes were so fun. The characters, lovable and one or two moments I was surprised by. I had so much fun and hope this movie gets more notice
Can you check out "Ultra City Smiths"? It's an amazing show that will hopefully come out with season 2 later this year. Stop motion neo-noire, whole, lots of twists. I love it, but a lot of people don't and I can't see why.
I didn’t like the fox character. At first I liked her very witty nice to see, but when she had her bad ass scene I liked it however this dread came over me that I was starting to feel in the scenes with her she was too perfect, I felt this similar dread with the pig character but in the end they showed how flawed he was, she didn’t get that depth she didn’t need to be a villain but some negative part of her personality needed to be highlighted to make her a more rounded character. She feels like the Strong Woman Archetype without anything to set her apart. I’m not one of those people who hate on turning red and any movie that dares not to star a white male protagonist. But I’m tired of supporting these terrible Strong women archetypes I know media can do it better. Look at Kora, Wonder Woman 1 and Encanto. The girl power moments feel half assed like the spider and fox don’t do anything together despite the call to attention that they were splitting off. Just make her have a flaw like all the other characters that’s all I ask, that makes her more relatable and I think more empowering then not having one.
*Spoilers for anyone else reading* Granted I did like how she turned her life around from a thief to being in a better position later on and got away from the former life she had (yes I know she temporarily became that way again when she rescued the gang in prison but I don’t think that fully counts as going back to her old ways)
@@RYMAN1321 Yeah, but I also felt what they were feeling. I am all for powerful female characters, but making them perfect, and skilled, and always in control of the situation is not showing what women are actually like. We have flaws, that doesn't mean we can't be bada$$, but we definitely have flaws. That actually makes it more empowering for me, they have weaknesses and hardships they have to go through, and they still make it through because they're strong independent women. If some people couldn't tell already, I say this as a woman, but I don't think gender should matter on this opinion.

I really want a series or a second movie I feel like it could be better than train a dragon with the animation and voice actors as well as romance with wolf and fox I do wish it's was more matured though not a kids film
Mine was pretty filled as well It had a good amount of both kids and adults and everyone seemed to have a good time. Got some solid laughs in my audience as well
fucking called it, i knew the guinea pig was going to be the villain from the trailers alone. The love interest was already their to steer the wolf to being good so the guinea pig seemed redundant as a character and with no other character clearly set to be the villain it had to be a twist villain; thus it had to be the guinea pig
I'm...gonna be a bit of an asshole here, but it felt like the visuals were phoned in on this vid. Emphasis on *felt* Guessing this is something to keep the algorithm happy that started with a great script, and the combination of having to get this out soon after release, and limited footage that could legally be added from the movie led to having to either get creative, or to pick an easy choice for B-Roll. You didn't ask, and it's not like I could do much better so often. But idk, this feels like a phenomenon worth bringing up. Everyone has to do it at some point to keep up, so there's nothing really wrong with it imo. You do some great ish, espcially with Helluva Boss and the Shipping vids. Again, I think this is more of an interesting phenomenon than trying to dunk on ya, but it's come up with so many different RUclipsrs every so often that I was tired of pretending to not see it. Looking forward to your other stuff, mate. Thanks for all of your efforts. PS. Not sure how I wasn't subscribed. Fixed that.
I actually read some of the books, they were really funny, and I can't wait to see this movie. Also, internet: Please stop sexualizing everything in existence. Just. Stop.
Does anyone know the background music used? Not the ending theme, because I’ve sworn I’ve heard it before (not their other videos though I know they’ve used it before) because it’s driving me crazy. Also I’m disappointed that they don’t make many movies like this for adults rather than kids, because the Internet has made it very clear this would’ve probably taken the box office if made for adults.
I think it’s because in general making a kids show is more “predictable” in sales and safe. Following a well proven formula allows for creators to do their thing and make a check, maybe branch off into a franchise or merch etc. I feel making *good* adult animation is a risk not everyone is willing to take, especially bigger studios who tbh just care about $$$
You say five series’ worth of retcons and nightmare relationships and that immediately sounds like Ben 10 to me. Really hope I’m right on that, cuz I’d love to see how you respond to that.

Yeah it does it well
Vivo has some influence from Spiderverse, which I know is a Sony film and not Dreamworks but still.
It is sad to think that there was a time Pixar was just as outgoing and risk-taking. They went corporate after Wall-E, _the irony._
@purple X Get that copypasta outtahere!
3D+2D animation is the new 3D. Soon, everybody will be doing 2D again, and complete the cycle.
We can only hope
God I hope so!
I doubt. 3d is just too convenient
@Frosty Bur 2d animation is usually more time consuming and in turn expensive though
@Frosty Bur 2d is actually more expensive. If you already have the equipment and people that know how to do it like most big studios now a days you’ll find that 3d is usually less expensive than a complete 2d movie. So I think most studios will probably fall in the 2d and 3d mix.

And the more subtle one of him saying straight to their face, "yeah, I'm the bad guy and you're too stupid to realise that I've just told you outright."
Both of these readings play into the narcissistic personality of his thinking that he's better than everyone else.

They foreshadow Diane's thieving abilities a lot with the back and forth with the diamond (which also gets foreshadowed in a blink and you miss it moment on the Police chief's board), as well as her knowledge on how to pull off a perfect heist in her conversation with "Mr.Poodleton'.
Yeah I figured it out pretty quickly. She's a red fox and Crimson Paw was never caught but also stopped stealing. Diane agreeing to let Marmalade help the bad guys sealed the deal for me.
@@47ratsinahoodie I actually didn’t see it coming so it caught me off guard

Wolf and the gang can either beat the fox girl up or break her strings and then they get an item and a shadow crystal and also marmalade is also kinda like queen since they're both selfish. Could someone please do a YTPMV of now's your chance to be a big shot where the fox girl sings now's your chance to be a big shot and also with sounds from the movie as the melody in the music. So at the end of the day, the fox girl from the bad guys is like a female version of spamton from deltarune.
I wasn't expecting Diane to be the Crimson Paw, but I did know that she was a former thief. It was pretty obvious.
So.. in the universe of the movie you could actually have a relationship with bad wolf if you are a human ?
I'd say potentially. It would just depends on the laws and if you were willing to follow the laws regarding said relationship.
I mean.....
...Beastars has interspecies relationships...
The animals can consent, and they are humanoid. As long as they aren't actual animals it should be fine.
@@demetria-n The problem(s) being that 2 are small and 4 are more likely to be the dominant one, if someone was wanting THAT kind of relationship. And again, we have to take into consideration the laws regarding interspecies relationships in The Bad Guy movie universe.
@@GipsyDangerfan As long as it's all safe and consensual, it's fine. And they break the law anyway, don't they?
Great video but I think I'm gonna have to disagree with the Crimson Paw reveal.
Even ignoring the clear fact she's a fox (an animal with it's own bad rep) Diane is one of the few characters that leave Wolf speechless, pointing out all the flaws in his plans with the knowledge that one would probably only possess if she 1. Had a history in law enforcement or 2. Had experience from doing heists herself
Yeah, I saw three hints:
1: She very obviously personally calls them out on live-TV to get them to steal the golden dolphin in the hope to get them arrested.

Honestly besides the bit about discrimination, it really feels more like Looney Tunes than Zootopia. Like there's just some characters that are anthropomorphic animals and we just accept that.

The Crimson Paw hint was SUPER evident by Diane deconstructing their heist with expert precision

This didn’t age well maybe we need to stop saying movies are being slept on so early
Lol from what I’ve seen of the dance clips I definitely agree
Idk I think that the dance sequence was enough between them. Like, when it ended I was satisfied with what I saw, I didn't have the need to see a kiss between them or something more. That kind of chemistry was enough for me, but this is just my opinion.
That scene anyway was beautiful, I really loved Diane's dress, with both trousers and a skirt!!!

Such as the dance scene, the scene when he’s in his sheep outfit, and the ending
You should check out Lupin the 3rd, the action is very influenced by it as well.
The aesthetic alone makes me want to see this movie 😊
well actually, on the foreshadowing on her being the crimson paw, there IS a couple of moments.
Yeah, it's almost in your face when she steals and shows her incredible slight of hand skill. Even coin rolling the ring.

Doesn't help that there are moments with Hans alone that don't even line up with him being a villain.

And that’s why IMO many are shipping Mr. Wolf with Diane
Granted they had such wonderful chemistry in the film (though the hints were quite subtle) , but I feel their relationship is just starting
As someone who volunteers in a library,I was well aware of this film being an adaptation
Yeh
Because Universal owns Dreamworks, they have certain guidelines now. The director of the HTTYD trilogy already had negative things to say about how the third movie got handled with Universal breathing down his neck about what wasn't allowed.
I hope it gets enough revenue to continue, the end gave off “we have plans” vibes
I really hope they’re making a second part. Because the books have a very cool other twist on hand for Marmalade.
Man, I really felt like there was a ton of Lupin III influence in the animation and style, particularly with Wolf.
I knew Marmalade was the villian as soon as I saw him, I was "oh yeah that guy's the villain"
100% agreed.
I love how Rottentomatoes rated The Bad Guys considerably more than Sonic 2
I loved this movie! It was fun and campy, and I especially enjoyed how it knowingly toyed with clichéd tropes of the heist genre, but while also showering them with the love they deserve. So, yeah. Either a show or a sequel would be great. Nice review, by the way. I subscribed.
I love how you point out that the group are both supporting and putting themselves back, and I love how you point out the toxicity of it.
Everyone loves Mr. Snake, I love Mr. Snake, but that guy is kind of toxic, and very dependable and possessivene. I read the book until chapter 14, and let me tell ya, that Snake dropped the ball so many times, that I often wonders why Wolf didn't cut him off completely
Then you go a little deeper and see that it was Wolf that taught Snake to be this ways, in one way or the other.
There is so much potential for it
Overall, I ADORED this movie. I love WolfxDiane together, they were my highlight of the film, and I loved the nuance between Wolf and Snake Friendship, along with the nuance of the Bad Guys Group

I’m so happy with return to stylised. The recent years of everything CGI live action or overly realistic animation is just sad
I feel like this movie is aware of how corny and predictable it is like yeah this movie is super easy to see coming BUT they definitely ham it up as a joke and make it super funny like watching the goody two shoes Guinea pig go evil in the back of the police car you can CLEARLY see they made him over the top evil on purpose because they KNEW everyone would see it coming so it's played as a joke rather than played as a genuine heart wrenching dramatic twist it's amazing
More movies need to just be silly wacky goofy fun with lots of good times rather than tryna tell a deep story or spread a message like yeah if u squint a bit u can can sorta see the underlying message but this is clearly not zootopia in terms of writing it's just a movie about a group of 5 homies doing bad shit.
I actually read and loved the books as a kid. I was so surprised they were making a movie of it haha
------SPOILERS------
Funnily enough, I knew the Crimson Paw was coming back throughout the film, and it was a toss between Foxington and Marmalade. So when it turned out to be Foxington but then it was pinned on Marmalade, it was just an ironic personal moment that the film unintentionally validated my uncertaint.
i loved the movie tbh it was so fun and entertaining. id give it a 9/10 in my opinion I just really liked it
I do kind of like the "Marmalade was behind it all from the start" twist because Wolf used the classic "make someone believe your idea was their idea" tactic on him earlier.
Well it made 25 Million opening weekend. So not bad for a new adaptation!

Personally I saw a lot of hints that Diane was in fact a thief in her past. Not the Crimson Paw exactly, but the fact that she steals the ring back and calls the bad guys mediocre is a huge sign that she was a thief, and very good at it.

My theater was full of people for this movie. Love it!
Five series worth of retcons?
Hmm.... Ben 10, Alien Force, Ultimate Alien, Omniverse, Reboot.....IS IT BEN 10?
*Spoilers for anyone else reading*
Granted I did like how she turned her life around from a thief to being in a better position later on and got away from the former life she had (yes I know she temporarily became that way again when she rescued the gang in prison but I don’t think that fully counts as going back to her old ways)
I agree, she was borderline Mary Sue material and basically upstaged Wolf at every corner.....and he was fine with it.
So at the end of the day, the fox girl from the bad guys is like a female version of spamton from deltarune.
@@drypenny3561 That's cringe
I have to disagree with what you said about the crimson paw thing, there were things in the movie like her suspicious detailed knowledge about heists when she was critiquing the bad guys
It was soooooo telegraphed

@@yrooxrksvi7142 I'm just spreading the word and seeing other people's responses.
the way the sound linked up with Legoshi at 5:38 had me rollin bruh
Danm I thought the next video you would be talked about is Chris and Beth from Bravest Warrior (only had 4 seasons)! I remember the relationship those two had make Ross and Racheal relationship look straight forward! Thiers was so complicated!
I like how 96% of the background footage is Beastars
I really hate that now anthropomorphic ANYTHING is now furbait. Despite the fact that literally EVERYTHING gets the R34 treatment.
I love how Beastars clips took up a majority of the video
Someone people here really didn't like it.🤣🤣
But I can see why, some scenes were unnecessary in this review.
I really want a series or a second movie I feel like it could be better than train a dragon with the animation and voice actors as well as romance with wolf and fox I do wish it's was more matured though not a kids film
You don't have to be a "furry" to love anthropomorphic animals. Wolf and Snake are my favorites 💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓
I went to see the movie in theaters last night and it was actually well-filled. A very enjoyable experience when I saw it with my friend!
Mine was pretty filled as well
It had a good amount of both kids and adults and everyone seemed to have a good time. Got some solid laughs in my audience as well
I can confirm the sole reason I am about to go see this movie as a college freshman is Wolf is just😍🥰
Same ❤️
There were scenes in this movie that made my jaw absolutely drop in terms of the animation.
I myself enjoyed it quite a bit even if it wasn’t as deep as others.
I’m glad it came in at No. 1 this past weekend at the domestic box office though
fucking called it, i knew the guinea pig was going to be the villain from the trailers alone.
Emphasis on *felt*
Guessing this is something to keep the algorithm happy that started with a great script, and the combination of having to get this out soon after release, and limited footage that could legally be added from the movie led to having to either get creative, or to pick an easy choice for B-Roll.
Just. Stop.
Thats asking a lot
It’s the internet. You can’t stop it.
@@mr.x2567 its almost impossible to stop ;)
Nope not happening
But bad wolf Mr wolf is really hot
Does anyone know the background music used? Not the ending theme, because I’ve sworn I’ve heard it before (not their other videos though I know they’ve used it before) because it’s driving me crazy.
Also I’m disappointed that they don’t make many movies like this for adults rather than kids, because the Internet has made it very clear this would’ve probably taken the box office if made for adults.
I think it’s because in general making a kids show is more “predictable” in sales and safe. Following a well proven formula allows for creators to do their thing and make a check, maybe branch off into a franchise or merch etc. I feel making *good* adult animation is a risk not everyone is willing to take, especially bigger studios who tbh just care about $$$
It did take the box office though, it’s at the top
You say five series’ worth of retcons and nightmare relationships and that immediately sounds like Ben 10 to me. Really hope I’m right on that, cuz I’d love to see how you respond to that.
Mr wolf really minded me of Lupin and the whole crew gave me kinda cowboy bebop vibes which I loved
